Netflix's critically acclaimed comedy series, Grace and Frankie, ended after seven seasons, and many are wondering what the show's ending means and why it was canceled. Created by Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, Grace and Frankie follows Grace Hanson (Jane Fonda) and Frances "Frankie" Bergstein (Lily Tomlin) who are both married to lawyer husbands, Robert Hanson (Martin Sheen) and Sol Bergstein (Sam Waterston). However, the titular pair learn that their husbands Robert and Sol have been in love with each other for years and that they are leaving their wives to be together.
Both Frankie and Grace move into their joint beach house despite never having been very close to each other when they were still married. However, throughout the series, Grace and Frankie get involved in a series of misadventures, romantic conflicts, and family drama that forces them to bond with each other, eventually resulting...

To celebrate the end of “Grace and Frankie,” Netflix is giving us some extra laughs.
The streamer released a Season 7 blooper reel on Monday, which you can watch above. The video features gaffes from missed lines to blundered fight choreography.
Of course, many of the best moments occur between Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as they joke around in between takes — and sometimes during them.
“Ugh, I’m sorry,” Tomlin laments at one point, sinking into a chair. “I forgot my lines. And it’s not because I’m old! It’s because I never learned them.”
The final episodes of the series debuted on Netflix April 29.
Here’s the logline for the final season: “them for… each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie formed an unlikely and unbreakable bond as they faced uncertain futures head-on, and hand-in-hand. They’ve laughed together, cried together, did shrooms together,...

When Grace and Frankie drops for its seventh and final season April 29, fans will have to bid farewell to more than just good laughs about yam lubricant and hydraulic-assisted toilet seats. The comedy from Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris is one of the last remaining series that features golden agers who actually address golden age topics. For all the talk in Hollywood about inclusion, there remains an astonishing lack of shows that both cast — and provide authentic depictions of — older Americans.

After seven magnificently funny and poignant seasons, Netflix’s “Grace & Frankie” is coming to an end with the airing of its final episodes starting April 29. When “Grace and Frankie” debuted in May of 2015, it’s doubtful even creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris or stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin would have expected the show to have such long-lasting sucess. But the Netflix comedy was a juggernaut hit for the streaming platform, and kind of a unicorn in terms of its longevity. Upon its final season, which arrives this month, “Grace and Frankie” is the longest-running Netflix original series in the history of the service. But as the old adage says, all good things must come to an end.
On Thursday, the official trailer for the seventh and final season of “Grace and Frankie” was released by Netflix and the marketing materials tease an emotional farewell to the long-running comedy series.
The synopsis for the season reads as follows:

Legendary actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have broken records and barriers during their respective, half-century spanning careers, but the two icons are still making history, by leading Netflix’s longest-running original series.
“Grace & Frankie” returns for Season 7 April 29, with both Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) looking to the end.
“I’d rather take a crazy ride with you than a normal ride with anybody else,” Grace tells Frankie, who proposes a “Thelma & Louise”-style sendoff.
From reflecting on the “wasted time” with the men in their lives to facing fears, the two characters have redefined what it means to “act your age.”
“I’m 80 years old,” Grace says in the trailer. “I’ve earned the right to take my sweet fucking time.”

“It was a crazy ride but I’d rather take a crazy ride with you than a normal ride with anybody else.”
So says Grace (Jane Fonda), as she and best roomie Frankie (Lily Tomlin) prepare for the end of Grace and Frankie, Netflix’s longest-running original series. By the time it’s all over this season, the comedy from Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris will have made a whopping 94 episodes.
The trailer for the seventh and final season that returns April 29 looks back at the good times, and those memorable moments when Grace dropped the F-bomb to make an important point. For those who haven’t sampled the laugher that also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston (and seriously why have you not?), the comedy is about a pair of divorcées (masterfully played by Fonda and Tomlin) whose husbands left them to marry each other.

It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since Grace and Frankie first introduced us to a dynamic onscreen friendship between real-life pals Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, but time has certainly passed and now Netflix is gearing up for the final batch of Season 7 episodes. The streamer previewed the show’s final installments by revealing several first look photos featuring Fonda’s Grace, Tomlin’s Frankie, and their ensemble of costars including Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, and more. After the arrival of Season 7, Part 1 in August of last year, Netflix will serve up the remaining 12 episodes beginning Friday, April 29. (Credit: Suzanne Tenner/Netflix) From creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, Grace and Frankie has captured fans’ hearts over the years as the titular duo went from cordial acquaintances to partners-in-crime, forming an unbreakable bond when their husbands Robert (Sheen) and Sol (Waterston) left them for each other.

1. “Russian Doll” Season 2 (available April 20)
Best Reason to Watch: You remember “Russian Doll” Season 1, right? Natasha Lyonne’s half-hour time loop comedy scored 13 Emmy nominations (and won three) after its breakout debut in February 2019. Co-created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland (the latter of whom also directed four episodes), “Russian Doll” follows sweet birthday baby Nadia (Lyonne) as she lives through her 36th Dob again and again, always ending with her unfortunate (and oft-amusing) demise.
While the first season appeared to close that loop, Season 2 restarts the insanity — with a twist I dare not mention here. Some may balk at extending a series that’s already found an ideal closing point, but given how long it’s taken for new episodes to come about, as well as the talent involved in front and behind the camera, “Russian Doll” seems poised to prove it’s a circle worth extending. Season 2! What a concept!

Netflix has surprise-released the first four episodes of “Grace and Frankie” Season 7 months ahead of the show’s formal return.
The first four installments of the Netflix comedy’s 16-episode final season are now available to stream on the platform. Stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin recorded a video announcing the surprise premiere (apparently the second choice to surprising fans with Del Taco gift cards) that was released on the show’s social media accounts Friday.
The final 12 episodes of the season will air sometime in 2022.
“Grace and Frankie” was picked up for a seventh and final season nearly two years ago, but production on the final season was delayed by the pandemic. By the time the show wraps up next year, it will be Netflix’s longest-running original series with a total of 94 episodes.
Showrunner Marta Kauffman teased some of what to expect from the final season in an interview with TheWrap last year.

Before the sixth season of “Grace & Frankie” premiered in January, Netflix renewed the Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin-led comedy for a seventh and final year with an episode order that will make it the streaming service’s longest running original series.
And though production began on Season 7 before the pandemic hit, co-creator Marta Kauffman is unsure when things will pick back up again for the series, given that it has to take into account something not every show looking to resume filming now that California has given the greenlight for projects to do so.
“We have shot through the middle of Episode 5. We are continuing the writers’ room. We are getting towards the end of the season in terms of the writing and we completely expect to be back at some point and shooting it — but I don’t know when,” Kauffman told TheWrap. “It really depends on how it goes.

As fate would have it, Norman Lear gave Marta Kauffman, recipient of this year’s Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television at the PGA Awards, her first job in television development close to 35 years ago. The result was “The Powers That Be,” which Kauffman created with David Crane and Lear executive produced. The NBC sitcom aired for two seasons between 1992 and 1993.
Like Lear, Kauffman is prolific. In addition to “Friends,” she is responsible for co-creating “Dream On,” “Veronica’s Closet” and most recently, “Grace and Frankie.” During “Friends’ ” 10-season run between 1994 and 2004, the show received 62 Emmy nominations and won for outstanding comedy series in 2002.
When “Friends” came to a close, Kauffman admits that she was in “a state.” “That year David [Crane] and I decided, amicably, that we wouldn’t be writing together anymore,” Kauffman says. “I was also turning 50, my oldest daughter was going to college and I was going through menopause.

NetflixIn the process of trying to keep things lively and quick paced, several parts of this season feel very rushed.Saraswati DatarThere is something oddly poetic about a show that deals with ageing, second chances and female friendships being the longest running original series on Netflix. Grace and Frankie is a show that no one really had great expectations from, including the makers. But with Season 6, all 13 episodes now streaming on Netflix, creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. It’s especially important given how inherently ageist the entertainment industry is around the world, especially with women. Grace and Frankie just made history! The beloved sitcom starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin has managed to escape Netflix's canceling sprees all these years and in doing so has become the streaming giant's longest-running series to date. The titular duo might be living the "f*ck it" life, but we have a feeling they'd be happy to hear this news. (At least we know Paul Rudd and Pete Davidson probably are.)
With 94 episodes, the comedy will have the most episodes of any Netflix original series after airing its seventh and final season, which will consist of a last batch of 16 episodes. "It's thrilling and somehow fitting, that our show about the challenges, as well as the beauty and dignity of aging, will be the oldest show on Netflix," cocreators and showrunners Marta Kauffman and Howard J. After 94 episodes of laughs, Grace and Frankie is coming to an end.
The series will end after a seventh season which will consist of 16 episodes. The show's sixth season recently wrapped production and is slated to debut January 2020.
That means there's still a significant amount of time before the series will officially be over.
The early renewal makes the series Netflix's longest-running original to date, meaning it will be making history when it signs off the air, presumably in 2021.
Fonda, Tomlin, Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen, June Diane Raphael, Brooklyn Decker, Baron Vaughn, and Ethan Embry will all return for the seventh and final season.

Season 6 of Grace and Frankie promises the return of a popular character and the addition of a new one. The cast and co-creators of the Netflix comedy filled fans in on the series Saturday afternoon at PaleyFest in Hollywood.

If Rust Cohle walked into Grace and Frankie’s beach house, snapped open a Lone Star, and started talking about time as a flat circle, Jane Fonda’s unflappable hostess would slip a coaster under his tall boy and make herself a martini. Lily Tomlin’s relentlessly positive hippie would probably crack a joke about some old peyote trip that had her seeing in 2-D for weeks.
But they’d know what he’s talking about. These time-tested broads recognize how history repeats itself. They know many of life’s moments come back around in one way or another, and the weight of the past can be crushing. Their only twist on Matthew McConaughey’s tortured musings would be that they want the circle to continue; instead of feeling trapped in a constant loop of pain, they’d look for ways to keep things spinning. Because in Season 5, the best...

1. “Black Earth Rising” (available January 25)
Why Should I Watch? Hugo Blick, the creator behind “The Honourable Woman,” brings Netflix a co-production with BBC Two about a London-based legal investigator whose past comes back to haunt her. Kate Ashby (Michaela Coel) was born in Rwanda and orphaned by genocide, and now her adoptive mother is taking on a case prosecuting an African militia leader. Though Kate is now working for an American barrister (John Goodman), she wants answers for what happened to her birth family, and the new case might offer fresh insights. “Black Earth Rising” is a female-led conspiracy thriller which has already earned strong marks from British critics across the pond, so there’s reason to believe this Netflix original can build a strong following Stateside as well.
Bonus Reason: The last time John Goodman did a drama, we got “Atomic Blonde.” The time before that, it was “Patriots Day.

Is Dolly Parton just about to announce a big new TV deal with Netflix?
I apparently stumbled into that scoop during the Grace And Frankie panel I moderated yesterday at Netflix’s Emmy headquarters at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. And Lily Tomlin wants all the credit for this breaking news.
When I asked Tomlin and co-star Jane Fonda if
Dolly Parton might be a future guest star on their show, both said they would love it but Tomlin interjected that she may be too busy as she has her own Netflix project coming up, apparently a series of films ala her NBC movie Coat Of Many Colors. Fonda was stunned to hear this , as was a Netflix representative I spoke to about it afterwards. Tomlin seemed to think it wasn’t a...

During the recent FYC panels held to promote Netflix original series to Emmy voters, the cast and crew of various shows have been tight-lipped about what’s next. The “Grace and Frankie” cast and creators, for instance, refused to share any information on Season 5 Saturday morning; as Jane Fonda said, it was “for fear” of spoiling anything the streaming network didn’t want them to say.
But apparently, that instruction only applies to their show, as Lily Tomlin had no reservations breaking news about an unannounced new series starring her friend (and former “9 to 5” co-star) Dolly Parton.
When asked by moderator and Deadline critic Pete Hammond who she would like to have guest star on the show, Tomlin started to explain why Parton wasn’t on the list yet.
“We’d like to see Dolly and we keep hoping we’ll work out a schedule, but she’s just so busy,...
