It was a sad day for S.W.A.T. fans earlier this month when CBS announced that, after nine seasons, the network would be canceling the hour-long drama starring Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Anna Enger Ritch, and Annie Ilonzeh. The network has tried this before, initially canceling S.W.A.T. in May 2023 after six seasons, only to renew it for a seventh, and supposedly final, season just 72 hours later. Before the seventh season could finish airing in April 2024, CBS opted to renew the show for another 22-episode season instead of taking the show off the air as planned. Unfortunately for S.W.A.T. fans, the eighth season didn't bring in enough of an audience for CBS to let the show continue into its ninth season.
While lovers of S.W.A.T. and its cast have plenty to be disappointed about, Shemar Moore fans specifically might be finding a silver lining. The day before...

CBS has cancelled S.W.A.T. again, and star / executive producer Shemar Moore, who plays Sgt. Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson is already asking if Netflix would like to pick the show up for a ninth season. The show premiered in 2017 and is based on the 1975 series and 2003 movie.
The network cancelled the show in 2023 after six seasons, only to reverse its decision days later after Moore pleaded his case for another season. The 13-episode seventh season was supposed to be the last, but CBS renewed it for an eighth season. But now it looks like S.W.A.T.'s time on the network has come to an end.
And Moore is once again not going down without a fight. He took to Instagram and stated his case for Netflix to take over the series. The previous seven seasons have done well for the streaming giant. Moore said:

This article contains mentions of murder, sexual crimes, and near-death experiences. It also contains Spoilers for Criminal Minds.
Criminal Minds is renowned as one of the greatest entries in the crime procedural genre, but arguably the best part of each episode was Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and her sharp dialogue. The FBI technical analyst was the quintessential quirky character that added an air of levity and charm to even the most gruesome investigations. Even as the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) encountered the most disturbing unsubs in Criminal Minds, Garcia was always prepared with a clever play on words or affectionate monikers for her coworkers.
Vangsness portrayed the character throughout all 15 seasons of Criminal Minds, with Penelope only absent from a single episode in the pilot season— even then she was still mentioned, a testament to how vital her presence in the series was from the start. In 2020, fans experienced the heartbreaking news that one of their top series, Criminal Minds, had been canceled after fifteen seasons. When the show received a reboot two years later, not all of the cast returned.
Criminal Minds: Evolution brought back some of our favorite profilers, only one of whom had been with the show since the beginning and a few who replaced original team members who had left before the show ended.
One of the most significant losses in the show’s history was that of boy-wonder Dr. Reid Spencer, played by Matthew Gray Gubler.
(Cliff Lipson/CBS)
During the fifteen-year original run of Criminal Minds, Reid played the nerdy academic with an eidetic memory and a brilliance for profiling criminals.
Fans adored the awkward genius that was Dr. Spencer Reid, whether it was his close relationship with J.J. (A.J. Cook) and her sons, his bromance with former Bau...

Criminal Minds has many great episodes, with a few underwhelming seasons and storylines throughout its 16 seasons. The concept pulled audiences in upon its premiere, but the intriguing characters kept fans dedicated to the overarching plot. Even following the exits of beloved characters like Derek Morgan and Jason Gideon, the show maintained its likability by evolving to create fresh plotlines with the beloved long-running characters at the center of the action.
Arguably, no Criminal Minds character is more likable than Dr. Spencer Reid. A consistent presence throughout the 15 seasons, Spencer's unique quality captivated fans and kept them returning for each episode. Therefore, it was devastating news when viewers learned that actor Matthew Gray Gubler would not return for the revival of Criminal Minds: Evolution. With Gubler dedicated to his Criminal Minds character, viewers wondered why he chose not to return for Season 16.

Criminal Minds took the crime genre to a whole new level when it was released in 2005 and also presented a stunning ensemble of actors. But just like any other long-running show, even this series went through a lot of changes in the main cast. While Mandy Patinkin left the project for personal reasons, actor Thomas Gibson was fired in 2016 after his on-set altercation with a writer.

Premiering in 2005, Criminal Minds is a police procedural series centered on the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, which consults on local crimes using psychological profiling to find and capture criminals. Actors like Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, Paget Brewster, and Joe Mantegna have starred in Criminal Minds for several years, and some continue to star in the revival series of Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Evolution. However, other stars, like Mandy Patinkin, starred on the show before leaving after only a few seasons.
While the original team was made up of seven core characters; Jason Gideon, Aaron Hotchner, Elle Greenaway, Derek Morgan, Spencer Reid, Jennifer Jareau, and Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds' cast lineup has evolved over the years. One of those changes involved the seemingly abrupt departure in Season 3 of Senior Supervisory Special Agent Jason Gideon, played by Mandy Patinkin. This left a lot of fans wondering why Patinkin moved on from the show.

The world of Criminal Minds has brought forth several storylines and relationships. While some have been well received by fans, others have sometimes managed to raise a few eyebrows. One such dynamic was between Kristen Vangsness’s Penelope Garcia and Shemar Moore’s Derek Morgan. The duo had a platonic relationship on the show. However, this was filled with playful flirtations and humorous banters.

When Criminal Minds first premiered in 2005, it introduced audiences to a new side of the FBI. While its predecessors focused mainly on solving crimes, Criminal Minds took this premise one step further and delved deeper into the psyche of the killer. As such, it quickly became one of the biggest crime procedurals of the 2010s.
But as this department experienced a wealth of growth and expansion, fans were forced to say goodbye to some of their favorite agents. So, the team often had to learn how to adapt to the loss of one of their own. While some character exits can be easily explained, audiences still wonder why some actors chose to leave the series, especially when it was at its peak.

Shemar Moore is suiting up for another season of S.W.A.T. following the series' surprise renewal. The actor says he's willing to reprise Sergeant Hondo for more seasons, but there's one caveat.
S.W.A.T. lead Shemar Moore is hoping for five more seasons beyond Season 8. "Everybody at S.W.A.T. wants Season 13," he told People, adding that he would do everything to make it happen. The show's recent renewals prove Moore's commitment. "To get canceled twice in a row and to get uncanceled twice in a row, I give kudos to me running my mouth on social media," he asserted. "Nothing lasts forever, but I fight." Season 7 was meant to be their farewell run, but CBS reversed the cancellation in a surprise announcement last April. The same thing happened in May 2023 when the network renewed the show for a "final" Season 7.

There’s good news and bad news for Matthew Gray Gubler fans. The good news is he will be on television again! Unfortunately, it will not be on Criminal Minds: Evolution. Instead, the actor who portrayed Dr. Spencer Reid will now be playing a different kind of genius.

Criminal Minds fans have been waiting for Matthew Gray Gubler's return in Evolution. That's yet to be confirmed, but a new dramedy pilot could chart a new path for the actor.
CBS has cast Matthew Gray Gubler in the new procedural titled Einstein, per Deadline. Executive-produced by Andy Breckman and director Randy Zisk, Einstein will be based on the namesake German TV series, a police procedural drama with heart and humor. This would be Gubler's first lead role after Criminal Minds; the actor left that show due to scheduling conflicts, but he has since appeared as a recurring character in seven Dollface episodes. Fans will quickly warm up to his Einstein character Lew, a brilliant yet misguided genius who finds meaning as a forensic expert.

As Criminal Minds: Evolution continues on Paramount+, many hope that some of the show's original actors (e.g. Shemar Moore) will return, but it would be difficult for Moore to reprise his role as Derek Morgan in season 3. Criminal Minds: Evolution is a revival of the CBS police procedural crime drama and premiered two years after its series finale. Consequently, the world of Criminal Minds lives on as Evolution heads into its third season. While many original actors have returned for the revival and are expected to be in season 3, Moore, unfortunately, isn't one of them.
Production on Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 began in August 2024, and while Paramount+ hasn't announced a release date, many predict season 3 will be released in 2025.
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2's ending left many questions unanswered, including if Voit survived the prison attack. Thankfully, Paramount+ announced that the show had been renewed for a third season prior to its season 2 finale.

Mandy Patinkin only played the role of Jason Gideon in two seasons of Criminal Minds, but it's a role the actor deeply regrets. Criminal Minds premiered 20 years ago, centering around a team of FBI profilers that get inside the psyches of the suspects to locate them and make an arrest. Using potential motivations and other mitigating factors, the team has spent 15 seasons of their original series, and two of the revived Criminal Minds: Evolution, taking down these gruesome killers. However, Patinkin, who played the former Behavior Analysis Unit Chief, opened up in a previous interview with New York Magazine about his shock at the show's dark content.
"I thought it was something very different. I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year. It was very destructive to my soul and my personality. After that,...

Criminal Minds is a police procedural drama known for its dark and disturbing storylines. Some of the cases the Bau investigates become personal for the profilers, from serial killer George Foyet targeting Unit Chief Aaron Hotchner, to Dr. Spencer Reid getting addicted to Dilaudid after another unsub tortured Reid by using the drug. Other cases might not affect the Bau team directly, yet are still so disturbing or sad that fans have a hard time watching the episode, and might even skip it during a re-watch.
Episodes like "Mosley Lane", "100" and "To Hell and Back" are infamous within the Criminal Minds fandom due to their heartbreaking endings, shocking deaths, or disturbing criminals. Criminal Minds pushes boundaries and isn't afraid of putting its main characters through multiple life-threatening situations, which is why this procedural drama is so captivating for many. There really is no contest as to which relationship in Criminal Minds is the downright best, offering us the most deliciously flirtatious lines and wholesomely poignant friendship. The dynamic bond between the hunky Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and tech-savvy Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) captured our hearts from the moment they graced our screen, even if their behavior has caused the bureau some headaches like a sexual-harassment-in-the-workplace seminar. When Moore left the original series in Season 11, we mourned not being able to see our favorite couple anymore, but Criminal Minds: Evolution gave us a heart-warming update on their friendship that we sorely needed.

CBS' promotion campaign "Conversations Between Stars" has produced some fun and interesting conversations as the network embraces an "Actors on Actors" interview style to entice its audience. Matlock's Kathy Bates and Elsbeth's Carrie Preston had one such chat and now S.W.A.T.'s Shemar Moore and Tracker's Justin Hartley have been paired in a talk that delved into their soap past.
For those who don't know, both actors starred on The Young and the Restless back in the day though they weren't on the daytime drama at the same time. Moore cut his teeth on the soap, it was his first professional acting job which he landed in 1994. His character, Malcolm Winters, is Neil Winter's brother and during the interview, Moore credited the late great Kristoff St. John for his guidance.

Elias Voit's cliffhanger is crucial for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3, showrunner Erica Messer teases. Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2's Gold Star car was a distraction, but season 3 will finally tackle Voit's true plan. Voit's return is necessary for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 as the Bau has yet to defeat him, promising an intense battle ahead.
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 ends on a major Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) cliffhanger that showrunner Erica Messer teases will be vital in season 3's story. The mystery of Gold Star is officially over after the Bau took down the whole operation. That being said, work doesn't stop for the profilers as they set their sights on their next case for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3. Unlike the season 1 finale, which explicitly planted plot seeds for its sequel's story, season 2 was more subtle about this matter. Still, Voit's cliffhanger fate will be instrumental in...

Criminal Minds, like many other crime shows and procedural dramas, know exactly how to get viewers invested in their stories. One of the best tools to keep audiences engaged is a good cliffhanger, but cliffhangers aren't always well-received. For a cliffhanger to work, there has to be real mystery, danger and high stakes. And in the case of Criminal Minds, the best and biggest cliffhangers combine all of these and more to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
The best Criminal Minds cliffhangers usually involve a member of the Bau in extreme danger or a plot twist that audiences didn't see coming. In other Criminal Minds cliffhangers, the mystery revolves around the personal stories of the Bau members, from whether Emily Prentiss would spy on the Bau team to whether Spencer Reid's father is a killer. Not every Criminal Minds cliffhanger is compelling and intriguing, but when done right,...

Spencer Reid's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution looks more likely with recent news on the show's renewal for a third season. The original cast members remain central to Evolution's storyline, with the series staying true to its roots and characters. Matthew Gray Gubler's potential return as Reid in the upcoming season hints at a promising storyline for fans of the Bau.

Dubbed the golden boy of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau), Reid was intrinsic in almost every single case that the profilers handled. In addition to being part of the team, Criminal Minds devoted time to his personal life.

"Talk to me, baby girl." It's a mainstay in the lexicon of Criminal Minds, one of the world's most popular police procedurals that aired fifteen seasons from 2005 to 2020, and it immediately brings to mind two iconic characters and a friendship for the ages. The CBS crime drama followed members of the FBI's behavioral analysis unit, agents working to investigate crimes by identifying unknown subjects (or "unsubs") using a mix of profiling and behavioral analysis. Aside from its thrilling and often disturbing storylines, Criminal Minds' main draw was its cast of popular characters. While the BAUs favorite profiling team features a host of beautiful friendships, none are more beloved than the relationship between hunky special agent Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and hacker-turned-technical analyst Penelope Garcia (Kristen Vangsness).

Showrunner Erica Messer hints at slim chances for Shemar Moore's return as Derek Morgan in Criminal Minds. The CBS police procedural Criminal Minds ran for fifteen seasons from 2005 to 2020 before being revived for Paramount+ in 2022 as Criminal Minds: Evolution. The show followed the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit as they tracked down serial killers via criminal profiling. The characters within the Bau are extremely beloved by Criminal Minds fans and are very much the main draw of the series.
While the Bau has some beautiful friendships, the team members also find themselves in romantic relationships, whether inside or outside work. Some characters' relationships were loved by viewers, who enjoyed seeing them achieve some form of happiness outside their jobs. However, many Criminal Minds couples didn't quite hit the mark, leaving fans wishing the screen time had been better spent.

Criminal Minds' Agent Gideon helped define the series early into its 15 season run. Gideon's impact also impacted future members of the team, proving that he was an invaluable addition. Criminal Minds has been renewed for Season 17 following the successful reboot and sixteenth season, Criminal Minds: Evolution. The first fifteen seasons of the series were a thrilling procedural drama that often crossed into other genres, especially horror. Even though Criminal Minds: Evolution revamped the structure of the show, focusing on one case throughout the season instead of one in each episode, the show has consistently had a dedicated fanbase. This viewership is not only due to the intriguing cases and great storytelling, but the beloved characters that were the heart and soul of the series.

Sadly, Derek Morgan's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is now just a pipe dream due to Shemar Moore's unexpected commitment to S.W.A.T. S.W.A.T. is supposed to end with season 7, but CBS surprisingly renews it for another year. Prentiss needs all the help she can get for the Bau in the revival, making Moore's Derek Morgan a valuable asset with his profiling abilities and team chemistry.
Sadly, Derek Morgan's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is now a pipe dream following an unexpected development for Shemar Moore. Proof of how beloved the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) is its immediate return to the small screen a couple of years after the original Criminal Minds wrapped its 15-season run on CBS. The revival features some key changes, including a darker storytelling approach, and format change, not to mention being on a streamer instead of a traditional network TV.
