Several different elements must come together to craft a fantastic anime. A wonderful story is a necessity, as are likable characters. Stellar animation is always a bonus, although anime like Mob Psycho 100 proved style isn't everything. Of course, great voice actors always have a role to play as well.
However, not all voice actors stick around for the series' entire lifetime. While the reason for not remaining for an entire series may vary, from retirement to being let go for controversial reasons, a new voice actor has to come in to replace the original. This transition can sometimes be quite jarring for fans. Yet, there are times when the new voice actor that takes over the role does so with flying colors.

There have been plenty of anime endings that have a reputation for being polarizing. This could come for several reasons. Viewers may feel disappointed that the characters didn't get enough time to grow, or that the anime alters material from its manga to move in a new direction. Whatever the case is, plenty of these controversial endings still aren't nearly as bad as the conclusion to Season 8 of Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones' ending will forever live in infamy for how it disappointed fans of the series. With several characters acting out of character, poor pacing, and messy resolution, it's easy to see why viewers felt that Season 8 rushed to the finish line. In comparison, these anime endings still give decent conclusions to their franchises despite their controversial nature. These animes get a lot of criticism for their endings, but they can always be worse compared to Game of Thrones.

Anime is widely known for its overpowered characters. While these popular characters are usually the protagonists, that is not always the case. The Chimera Ant Mereum was the most significant threat looming over the protagonist's heads in Hunter X Hunter. He is one of the most powerful characters and is only defeated by extremely improbable means.
Many of these anime powerhouses use their strength as a plot device. Lelouch from Code Geass is only overpowered because of his ability to command the wills of others. He uses this ability to become nearly untouchable. Overall, several of anime's overwhelming characters could theoretically give Goku and Superman a run for their money.

Every anime fan who's watched anime long enough will run into the same problem. They'll start watching a show, fall in love with it, and watch as it climbs to the level of a true masterpiece. Then at some point, the series will lose its way, edging it out of being considered one of the best.
For some anime, the show is still good — it's just no longer perfect. Other anime series never find their way and completely fall off. Either way, the anime world is full of series that would've been perfect if they'd ended just a little bit earlier. Or, better yet, if the viewer had given up on the show just a bit sooner.

Most seasonal and classic anime titles are more accessible than ever these days. Crunchyroll, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and many other streaming platforms offer anime titles for fans to binge-watch. It's not uncommon for many people to discover their new favorite show after browsing through Tubi or Freevee to watch something that appeals to them. However, there are still certain anime that are notorious for being pirated.
Well-known series like Sailor Moon,Yu Yu Hakusho, and Sword Art Online have been available on streaming platforms for years. Yet, plenty of other popular shōnen, shoujo, and isekai titles are easily some of the most viewed on illegal pirating sites. While these shows are available to watch legally, not everyone may have access to these services. These titles will make fans sail the high seas to get a taste of their favorite franchises.

Villains in anime sometimes have a point. Not every villain, of course, but quite a few have made valid arguments during their monologues to the anime's protagonist. Almost always, the main character rejects the villain's methods or ideology, but that doesn't mean the villain was entirely wrong. The hero will often outright reject the villain's plan because of their conflicting worldviews or naivety, but the hero isn't always right in anime.
Villains are complex characters and not every villain is downright evil. Sometimes the villain does evil acts for the sake of good, often having a complex moral compass to achieve or justify their ultimate goal. More often than not, anime villains usually make several good points that the hero can't outright reject or immediately counter. The best villains in anime are nuanced and complex characters that challenge the hero in more ways than one.

Any proper anime villain will pose a credible threat to the heroes with their intelligence, strength, and most of all, their successes. The stakes will always be raised when a villain claims victory, forcing the heroes to try plan B and win against even steeper odds later in the story. That, or a successful villain may succeed in the sense they have gained the lifestyle they want, such as running a nation or destroying the world. But not all villains actually make it that far.
There are some villains who actually haven't made it anywhere, and they all faced defeat before they could realize their ambitions or accomplish anything of note. Piccolo was a villain when he first appeared in Dragon Ball, but he has gone on to become Goku's ally and one of Earth's top defenders. He is a skilled martial artist, and like other Namekian's, he can fly and produce ki blasts. Piccolo possesses superhuman physical abilities and his ki blasts can destroy celestial objects as large as the moon. Given this power, Piccolo can easily defeat strong characters from other anime series.
Many of these anime characters possess incredible abilities, yet their overall power does not come close to matching Piccolo's. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Shenron granted Piccolo's wish to unlock his potential, resulting in an orange transformation. Orange Piccolo is comparable to a Destroyer God in terms of power, which means he can vaporize most anime characters with a single ki-based energy blast.

The Naruto franchise has numerous characters with sad pasts, but the most well-known is Naruto. Growing up as an orphan, he was very lonely. The citizens of the Hidden Leaf Village ostracized him because he is the jinchuriki for the Nine-Tailed fox. Parents kept their children away from him, and he had no siblings to keep him company.
However, there are characters that have gone through more traumatizing experiences. Many of them are forever changed by their pasts. Some are able to overcome their struggles or end with a happy ending, but lots of them succumb to the trauma and pain they had from childhood.

Ah, "Fullmetal Alchemist." Hiromu Arakawa's breakout manga follows two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone. They tried, and failed, to bring their dead mother Trisha back to life with alchemy — instead of regaining their mother, Ed lost his left leg and Al his whole body. (Ed then gave up his right arm to bind Al's soul to a suit of armor.). Now, only the mythic elixir can help the two brothers heal each other both in body and spirit.
It's one of my favorite anime and a key reason I think about it so often is because it's really two anime in one. Studio Bones adapted Arakawa's original "Fullmetal Alchemist" manga twice, first in 2003 then again in 2009 for a second, more faithful anime known in the West as "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood."
The two shows complement each other by being so different.

The Thousand-Year Blood War is filled with new abilities and great action, and there are quite a few iconic character moments. That said, several Bleach characters were criminally underused during the Thousand-Year Blood War.
Most of the characters who were underused in the Thousand-Year Blood War are Lieutenant-ranked Soul Reapers who did very little or who were practically non-existent during the conflict. A few former Captains, a powerful Quincy, and a former Espada were underused as well. Some of these characters played significant roles in earlier arcs, while others had valid reasons for wanting Yhwach defeated.

Most anime characters only have to live up to their own expectations. However, many others have lasting family legacies to live up to. Even if they only have one extraordinary parent or relative who did incredible things, it can be hard for these anime characters to not have to bear the brunt of high expectations. No matter how they may accept or reject their families, some individuals cant escape their family legacies.
The legacies in question usually have something to do with a family business. However, thats not always the case. Ouran High School Host Club is a favorite among many older shojo fans. The satirical anime pokes fun at the shojo genre. However, it also has many surprisingly heartfelt moments woven into the story. Although its a comedy, Ouran High School Host Club has plenty of romantic scenes.
The most romantic scenes typically involve the main couple, Haruhi Fujioka and Tamaki Suoh. However, other boys and couples are also prominently featured in sentimental scenes. The scenes featuring these couples are the most romantic because they show how much they care about each other - even if no words are spoken.

Ouran High School Host Club remains popular and beloved years after its release, with well-written characters and humor. The anime did not cover all the manga material, leaving room for a reboot with abundant source material. A potential remake of Ouran High School Host Club would not be redundant and could be successful like other anime reboots.
Even today, Ouran High School Host Club is considered one of the best romance anime. Despite coming out in 2006, it's still incredibly popular. Not only are there ongoing discussions about the show, but it is also a well-recommended anime. Ouran High School Host Club stands as a delightfully funny romance anime, well received for both its interesting plot and its apt parody and references. The characters are beloved and have solid writing all the way through. Ouran High School Host Club is well remembered for plenty of reasons.

The characters are beloved and have solid writing all the way through. Ouran High School Host Club is well remembered for plenty of reasons.

Romance is one of the most popular and enduring anime genres. There are many types of romance, and they vary in tropes and tone. Romantic comedies are very popular in shonen anime and contemporary shojo. Historical romance tends to be paired with high fantasy anime.
Fluffy romance isn't exactly a subgenre of romance; it's more to do with the tone of the story, and the intensity of the plot stakes. Fluffy romance is a story about love for love's sake, and they tend to be very optimistic stories. The stakes may be lower, but that doesn't mean the plot isn't poignant; they tend to have couples that work together through their struggles and personal development.

The numerous One Piece pirates exploring the Grand Line are perhaps more diverse individually than members of the Marines or Revolutionary Army because of the many reasons and ways to be a pirate. Although pirates do not follow an overarching belief system like other groups in the series, many characteristics are commonly shared throughout the population of pirates.
Strength, courage, and leadership serve pirates well, and characters with all three traits are bound to be the best on the seas. However, negative qualities like disobedience, violence, and greed are common in pirates seeking power with evil intentions. The characters who embody these qualities, good or bad, would be the best candidates to become pirates if their paths were to go differently.

The Dragon Ball franchise’s popularity is second to none. Akira Toriyama’s story-building and character designs have made him one of the greatest mangaka ever. But massive popularity often brings new controversies. Like Newton’s third law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
Even though there has never been any controversy surrounding the mangaka, the working staff seems to be involved in tons of them. One person who was part of a controversy was Goku’s English voice actor Sean Schemmel. Goku is a kind soul. It is strange how a pure soul got a controversial voice actor.

Anime has been going on for a lifetime, with its popularity in the U.S. rising since the 90s. An entire generation grew up surrounded by the wonders of Japanese storytelling, culture, and, most importantly, irresistibly handsome 2D characters made of so much boyfriend material that the world could be kept warm through an ice age.
Its neither a secret nor a shame that every long-time anime fan fell in love with at least one or two characters in their childhood. There is no judgment if that love still burns to this day. After all, there were so many alluring characters in terms of looks, complexity, and personality. Not growing affection for at least one of them was a near impossible feat.

The shonen demographic "genre" is perhaps the most popular in manga, which is why so many of these works have anime adaptations. These shows take the source material and usually make it even more accessible, allowing them to reach even larger audiences. In some cases, however, these anime make major divergences from what those who read the books had come to know and love.
In many cases, these changes are due to how close the production between the anime and manga are. In fact, some of these anime were completed before their source material was even halfway completed. As a result, many of these anime have entirely different storylines and even conclusions from the manga.

One of the best things about anime is the characters. Characters can make or break a series. This typically comes down to how the characters are written. Thankfully, plenty of characters, whether theyre main or side characters, are some of the most well-written cast members in their respective shows.

The Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime series features a cast of unforgettable shonen characters who do far more than show off the series' cool alchemy-based combat system. The characters of Fullmetal Alchemist, human and homunculus alike, are highly thematic characters who are rarely just a basic archetype. Author Hiromu Arakawa put a serious effort into making each character well-rounded, multi-layered person with contrasting personality traits and behaviors.
Some minor Fullmetal Alchemist characters may be a singular archetype, such as Sheska being the obligatory library girl type or Solf J. Kimblee being a twisted monster to the core, but the best Fullmetal Alchemist characters are more complex than first impressions would suggest. That makes these characters more sympathetic, intriguing, and unpredictable as the story progresses and everyone undergoes their own unique arcs.

William Shatner may be the iconic James T. Kirk, but he's one of five actors to have played the role in the Star Trek franchise. As the original screen Enterprise captain, Kirk casts a long shadow in the popular imagination when it comes to Star Trek. Not only that, but in the Star Trek canon, the adventures of Kirk and Spock in Star Trek: The Original Series continue to define those of future Starfleet crews. Vic Mignogna, known for voicing Broly in the “Dragon Ball” series of games, films, and tv shows, filed a lawsuit claiming defamation and other charges against Funimation and other voice actors on Thursday, according to public court documents.
Fellow Funimation voice actors Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi, along with Rial’s fiance Ronald Toye, are also named in the suit. Mignogna’s suit stated that he is suing for interference in other work contracts and that the charges made against him accusing him of sexual harassment are false, and affected his career due to not only Funimation’s decision to no longer work with him, but conventions also canceled his appearances. Mignogna and his lawyer, Ty Beard of Beard Harris Bullock Hughes, are seeking “monetary relief over $1,000,000.00” in addition to other relief to which Mignogna “may be justly or equitably entitled.”
In January, accusations of sexual harassment and homophobia surfaced against Mignogna.

Dragon Ball Super’s first feature film is arguably the most satisfying Dragon Ball movie to date!

Dragon Ball Super: Broly faces a tall task. It's a new Dragon Ball film that acts as a canonical continuation of Dragon Ball Super is very much a big deal, but it's also a movie that focuses on the controversial Broly, an overpowered character who has had three other Dragon Ball films devoted to him, much to viewers' delight or chagrin. If this film didn't stick the landing it wouldn't have the luxury of a new episode on television next week to cleanse the palate.
Thankfully, not only does Dragon Ball Super: Broly rise to the occasion and finally do Broly justice, but it also fixes many of the series' problems with continuity. It's also just one of the best, most fulfilling Dragon Ball films period. It’s the ultimate celebration of the series,...

I don’t know about you, but I keep forgetting to watch Star Trek: Discovery.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t wait for each episode of Star Trek Continues.

Star Trek Continues, a continuation of the five-year mission of the Constellation class starship USS Enterprise Ncc-1701, captained by James Tiberius Kirk, is a love-fast to the original series. It is available for free on YouTube and its own website.
Stc was co-produced by the non-profit charity Trek Continues, Inc., Dracogen, Far From Home LLC and Farragut Films, and was partially funded by Kickstarter, in an incredibly successful campaign of crowd sourcing.

The best fan-made web-series has come to an end. To Boldly Go: Part 2 was released this week and it not only concludes the show in style, it also brings the 5-year mission of the Starship enterprise to a solid, entertaining end.
It was a bittersweet moment watching the final episode of Star Trek Continues. On one had, it was great to see this excellent series get wrapped up so well, but it was also sad to realize that there won’t be any further episodes. The purpose of the show was bridge the gap between the end of the classic 1966-69 TV series (“Turnabout Intruder” was the final original series episode) and big screen cinematic adventures, which it does very well. It was a great ride, while it lasted.
Vic Mignogna, the executive producer/writer, who portrays Captain Kirk on the show, explains what he wanted to accomplish with this last episode.

Part one of the final episode for the Web’s finest fan-made series came out this week, and as usual, it does not disappoint. As Star Trek Continues warps to its conclusion, long-time Trek fans are treated to a wonderful trip back to the very beginning of the classic series.
The latest episode of Stc, “To Boldly Go” (a homage to the famous opening narrative to Classic Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation) is a fun trip into the Trek universe that pays homage to “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, the original 1966 pilot episode for Star Trek. (Okay, that was actually the second pilot, the first being “The Cage”, starring Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike, but I digress.) It shows the fidelity and affection that the makers of this show have for the source material; which is why they chose to end their series that way Star Trek began.

The best fan-made web-series, Star Trek Continues, returns with a new episode. Like the original Star Trek show it’s based on, it doesn’t shy away from controversial issues. Does the latest episode “What Ships Are For” maintain the series’ quality?
“What Ships Are For” is the ninth of a planned 11 episodes of this excellent show, and it’s too bad it will be coming to an end soon because it’s far and away the finest fan-made web show in production. What makes it so good is its fidelity to the classic 1966-1969 Star Trek TV series, which worked as a metaphor for socio-cultural issues of the day. (Something missing from the recent Jj Abrams films). Star Trek Continues also dives into a hot-button issue by tacking the subject of refugees.

Every time cosplayers attend a convention there are a few items that they should not be leaving at home. Sometimes not every item is needed, but here are some of the less-obvious essentials of cosplay:
1. Duct Tape
Duct tape is a quick-fix essential in cosplay. If props or Eva foam armour break, or get damaged, duct tape is usually the quickest and best way repair it. Small rolls of duct tape can even be carried around on the con floor, just in case. If you forget duct tape, however, there is usually some at a cosplay repair station if that convention has one.

For fans of classic Star Trek who want to see quality stories done in the spirt of the original series, you have a treat this week. The consistently excellent web series Star Trek Continues has put out its eighth episode, “Still Treads the Shadow”, and as usual, it does not disappoint.
For those who’ve never seen the multi-award winning Star Trek Continues, don’t dismiss it as “just” a fan-made web show. That does the series an injustice. It’s more than that. As someone whose been a Star Trek fan for over 40 years, and grew up with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the rest of the original crew of the USS Enterprise, I never ceased to be amazed by how well this show captures the essence of the great show I adored in my childhood. The madness that is San Diego Comic-Con gave way to the easy fun of Baltimore Comic-Con. Now Geek Culture gets ready for the last big comic convention of the year, New York Comic Con, with anxiety and anticipation.
But it’s not really as simple as that. There have been plenty of really good conventions each and every week. And there’s more being planned.

It picks up after the last episode of the original show “Turnabout Intruder” (The final scene of which is recreated in a short video vignette that precedes the series) and chronicles the 4th year of Captain Kirk and his crew going where no man has gone before.
The creative minds behind Star Trek Continues have been putting out original episodes online since May of 2013. The latest release...

The campaign to raise $350,000 felt more like the unbeatable Kobayashi Maru, especially over the last few weeks. But leave it to Capt. Kirk or at least his "Star Trek Continues" alter ego Vic Mignogna to find a way to save the day.A crowdfunding effort to raise those hundreds of thousands of dollars ended Thursday, pulling in just under $200,000 or 57 percent of its goal. Where fans expected this could put future episodes of the fan-film series in danger, Mignogna had surprising news: "Continues" met its goal through private donations outside of the IndieGoGo campaign."Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Mignogna wrote on the fan-film's Facebook page. "We are so deeply grateful to those of you who have donated to 'Star Trek Continues.' And do not be discouraged. ...

Have you heard Star Trek Continues? I happened to discover it just today, as I was surfing the web this morning. It is an award-winning …well, let me quote from the site itself:
“Star Trek Continues is a critically-acclaimed, award-winning, fan-produced webseries… the brainchild of long-time Star Trek: The Original Series fan – and producer, director, actor, voice-actor, musician – Vic Mignogna.
“Star Trek Continues is proud to be part of Trek history, aimed at completing
the final two years of the original five-year mission. After mounting a successful Kickstarter campaign, the show is already making waves and attracting guest stars such as Michael Forest, Jamie Bamber, Lou Ferrigno, and Erin Gray – as well as cameos by Star Trek alums like Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn.”
It really is absolutely captivating. Mr. Mignogna is perfect – and I mean perfect! – William Shatner as Captain James Tiberius Kirk, down to body movements and personal tics.
