The Conners happened out of a second thought when Roseanne makers couldn’t move forward with their planned main series continuation. Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets shut down any plans for the planned eleventh season. However, The Conners did not end up becoming another spin-off of a classic sitcom that fizzled out after a couple of seasons.

The Conners series was created following the sudden cancellation of the Roseanne revival. Many believed the spin-off would be quickly cancelled without Roseanne Barr, but the comedy became one of ABC's highest-rated scripted shows. Now, after seven years, the sitcom is coming to an end. Many of the characters have been around for decades, and the brood was revived once. Could The Conners return for an eighth season someday? Stay tuned.

When ABC canceled a reboot of its 1988-97 Emmy-winning comedy Roseanne in May 2017, after its titular star posted a “repugnant” and racist tweet, it seemed like the Conners of (fictional) Lanford, Ill., might be relegated to the TV land graveyard.
Then, just a month later, the network ordered a spin-off series that would bring the family at the center of one of the all-time great working-class sitcoms back to primetime, but without one key player: Roseanne, the character and the actress whose stand-up comedy about her own domestic life had been the basis of the series that was a top 10 ratings hit for its first seven seasons.
The Conners, including paterfamilias Dan (John Goodman), Roseanne’s sister Jackie (Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf), and Conner daughters Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Becky (Lecy Goranson), were still living in Lanford, still squabbling and supporting each other, still struggling with a lot of the...

After three iterations, a combined 17 seasons and nearly 40 years on the air, don’t expect The Conners to end with a big happy ever after.
Laurie Metcalf, who has starred as Aunt Jackie on the family sitcom since Roseanne‘s 1988 debut on ABC, recently explained that the show’s current reboot won’t “have a big bow tied up” when the six-episode final season kicks off Wednesday at 8/7c.
“There’s a lot to wrap up and I think the writers are really working hard to get everybody’s storylines sort of … not completed,” she told People. “It’s not going to have a big bow tied up with the Conners.”
The Oscar nominee added, “And it will remain true to their storyline, what happens to them in the final episode. But, it’s a very short amount of time to wrap up this many seasons of a family that’s covered decades.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Conners Season 7 Episode 1, “It’s Gonna Be A Great Day.”] The Conners are back and at odds as Dan (John Goodman) and Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) can’t see eye-to-eye when the chance to sue big pharma for Roseanne’s (Roseanne Barr) death comes around in the Season 7 premiere, “It’s Gonna Be A Great Day,” and that’s just one of the various plotlines introduced in the installment. As fans know, this seventh and final season will deliver a more concentrated story with six episodes, which executive producer Bruce Helford says “are like a miniseries.” He notes that “these story arcs will be the run through [the season],” adding that “other things will come up that will also raise heads along the way.” The premiere episode sees Jackie inform the family that a new court ruling gives them the option of pursuing a lawsuit for Roseanne’s death, but Dan is...

“The Conners” kicked off its seventh and final season with an eventful episode that brought Roseanne’s death back into the forefront. Could that signal a potential comeback for Roseanne Barr herself before the series comes to a close?
The ABC comedy series — famously spun-off from the short-lived ratings juggernaut “Roseanne” reboot after Barr was fired for racist tweets — is set to end its run with a six-episode farewell event. Wednesday’s premiere set the stage for a potential legal battle in the Conner family’s future, as Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) hoped to get the rest of the clan on board to pursue a lawsuit against the opioid company that manufactured the drugs that her sister accidentally overdosed on at the start of the spinoff series. The sitcom’s Season 7 premiere spinoff ended with Jackie and Dan (John Goodman) at a serious impasse,...

Roseanne returned in 2018 with an unlikely purpose. Yes, the decision to get the band back together was made in large part to reclaim the series’ legacy and erase its divisive final season (and several other late-in-run storylines) from canon, but the powers that be also had another objective in mind: They were going to tackle the nation’s opioid crisis — an epidemic that disproportionately impacted working class families like the Conners — head on. Viewers would soon discover that Roseanne Conner was reliant on painkillers and that she was keeping her addiction secret from her entire family, including Dan, her husband of 45 years.

After more than 100 episodes on ABC and decades on screen, “The Conners” are saying goodbye. The “Roseanne” spinoff series will bow out with a shortened final series that kicks off in March.
“For over three decades, audiences have followed along with the Conners as they navigate the daily struggles of life in Lanford,” an ABC statement read when the final season release was announced. “Dan, Jackie, Darlene and Becky grapple with parenthood, marriage, financial pressures and aging in working-class America. Through it all—the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns—with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”
Starring John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara and Jay R. Ferguson, “The Conners” has just a few episodes left before the end — here’s when and where you can watch new episodes.

With nine seasons of the original Roseanne, a reboot season in the 2010s and then seven more seasons of The Conners after Roseanne Barr was dismissed from her creation, plenty of characters and storylines have emerged over the decades. Now that The Conners is six episodes away from a series finale (?), Laurie Metcalf, who plays Jackie Harris, cautions viewers not to expect a tidy resolution to every subplot.
“There’s a lot to wrap up, and I think the writers are really working hard to get everybody’s storylines sort of ... not completed,” Metcalf told People during an onset visit. “It’s not going to have a big bow tied up with the Conners.”

There are probably fans who mostly remember the original run of Roseanne for episodes about topics like Roseanne (played by the mononymous comic), her husband Dan (John Goodman) and her sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) smoking their old weed stash and getting paranoid, or about Becky (Alicia Goransen) loudly farting at school. Those fans might find The Conners jarring: Becky grapples with alcoholism, then has a baby with an undocumented immigrant who gets deported; Darlene (Sara Gilbert) tries to support her son Mark (Ames McNamara) when he gets punished at school for Pda with his boyfriend; Dan, still working, gets crushed by a vending machine — and all that is before Covid makes the family’s finances even more perilous.

Max's Hacks pulled off an upset at the 2024 Emmys by winning Best Comedy Series over the heavily favored The Bear. Both shows are eligible to compete again in 2025. Will the result be the same?
According to the early Gold Derby odds, Hacks does indeed have the advantage in the race. Following a veteran comedian (three-time Best Comedy Actress champ Jean Smart) who teams up with a young writer (three-time Best Comedy Supporting Actress nominee Hannah Einbinder) to revitalize her career, Hacks has the support of our pundits despite the fact that its eligible fourth season doesn't debut until April 10.
Last year Hacks received 16 nominations and won three, for writing, lead actress, and series. In 2022 it racked up 17 nominations and also won three, for lead actress, guest actress (Laurie Metcalf), and contemporary costumes. And in 2021, for the first season, the show was nominated 15 times and won — you guessed it — three times,...

Carrie Underwood Won Me Over in American Idol’s Season 23 Premiere — Watch the Moment That Sealed It

Heading into Season 23 of American Idol, I had my reservations about Carrie Underwood joining the judges’ panel. I have nothing against her as a person, and certainly not as an artist, but I just didn’t think she’d be able to keep the show’s energy up. (Say what you will about Katy Perry, and I know she had her share of haters, but that woman did so much heavy lifting during her seven-season run.)
Then came Sunday’s premiere, during which something hit me like a Louisville Slugger. And like so many unexpected revelations, it came via the...

By the time High Potential wrapped its first season on ABC, Kaitlin Olson’s character was basically drowning in eligible bachelors.
Many fans are pulling for Morgan to end up with Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), her new partner at the LAPD, while others are curious to see where things go between Morgan and Tom (Jd Pardo), the janitor-turned-nurse with whom she was getting hot and heavy before he relocated to San Diego for work. Heck, people are even ‘shipping Morgan with David Giuntoli’s mystery character, who has only gotten about 30 seconds of screen time — and we don’t even know his name yet!

The canon of "The Big Bang Theory" and its various spin-offs is a fluid thing. In one particular instance, for example, the actor playing a younger version of an already established character got a chance to dictate something about how much the character would change. Indeed, Annie Potts, who portrays Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) grandmother MeeMaw on "Young Sheldon," was candid in a 2018 interview with Variety about how she worked with series co-creators Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro to develop the younger version of a character first played on "The Big Bang Theory" by June Squibb. She explained that because of the loose rules around the "Big Bang Theory" canon, she felt like she had a "clean slate" to work from despite the character already existing in fan's minds. Still, there was one aspect of Squibb's appearance as MeeMaw that Potts really wanted to hang on to.

Sometimes the way we look back on our lives can really change with time and experience, and in the case of Sheldon Cooper, a little bit of earned wisdom helped him reshape the way he thought about his father. In "The Big Bang Theory," Sheldon (Jim Parsons) remembers his dad as a nearly abusive adulterer, but in the prequel series "Young Sheldon," he seems to have softened on his dad, George Sr. (Lance Barber), just a bit. One of the first times we get a chance to see a truly sweet side of George is in season 3 when he takes Sheldon on a visit to his dream school, California Institute of Technology, and it turns out that was a very deliberate decision on the part of the creative team behind the show.
