The show struggled to find its footing out of the block, with several episodes virtually xeroxed from the storylines of its British predecessor created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and transplanted, often clunkily, to Scranton, Pa. But soon enough showrunner Greg Daniels found his groove and leaned into the strengths of his formidable ensemble, led by Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson.

The Office would go on to become a must-see TV staple, running nine seasons and earning five Emmys in 42 nominations — and then becoming a hit all over again as a new generation rediscovered and binged The Office when it hit streaming. Until 2023, The Office held the record as most-streamed series, with more than 57 billion minutes watched.

On March 24, 2005, NBC aired the first episode of The Office, an American remake of the universally acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning BBC comedy of the same name. The series was first made in 2001 by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and became a key component to the creators' and actors' careers. The show won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television series: Musical or Comedy. The core plot line focuses on David Brent's desperate need to be popular, whilst other subplots often take center stage. Tim and Dawn's friendship-turned-romance being one of them and one of the best at that.

The Office remains one of the most successful shows in TV history. Cards on the table, I love David Brent and Michael Scott. Both UK and US versions of The Office were led by iconic sitcom characters, written and acted to a standard that few others can achieve. So, when I say that either one isn't particularly nice at some points, that doesn't mean I think they're badly created characters. In reality, I think their downsides make them relatable and more human. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's UK series was the original and it reinvented the mockumentary genre, thrusting the mundane, everyday work life into the spotlight to make it something extraordinary. Although I was too young to watch when it first came out, I've heard other people say that watching the show upon its release was baffling.

NBC has a long list of amazing shows to its credit. From dramas to comedies to some of the most watched police procedurals, the network is a powerhouse amongst its competitors.

The show, which first came to TV in 2005, is graced with a large cast of core characters, all of whom are necessary to the plot. Unlike its two-seasoned predecessor, The Office had plenty of time to dive into the lives of Michael, Jim, Pam, Dwight and Angela, to name but a few. Warwick Davis, the British actor and comedian best known for starring in Lucasfilm’s Willow and its follow-up series on Disney+, is set to be awarded with a BAFTA Fellowship at the Ee BAFTA Film Awards, taking place on Sunday, February 16.

The BAFTA Fellowship recognizes those who have made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television. Davis is just the latest in a long line of luminaries to receive the honor, the most recent being actress Samantha Morton last year.

The BAFTA Fellowship recognizes those who have “made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television” and is the arts charity’s most prestigious honor. He will collect the prize on Sunday, Feb. 16 at this year’s Ee BAFTA Film Awards.

Born in Surrey, England, Davis is celebrated for his roles in the world’s most successful and enduring film franchises such as Professor Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter films and as Wicket the Ewok, selected by George Lucas himself, in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983).
