The big twist in Inside Man reveals Dalton was hidden inside the bank with diamonds, but the entire concept is far-fetched. Despite the twist's unbelievable nature, Inside Man remains one of the best heist movies, enthralling audiences till the end. The 2019 sequel, Inside Man: Most Wanted, bears almost no resemblance to the original film and lacks the essence of the classic heist movie.
Spike Lee has quite the long and storied career in films. He has made classics such as Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, BlacKkKlansman, He Got Game, and more. In addition, he was also the directorial mind behind the 2006 hit film, Inside Man. As much as Lee's Inside Man was a bank heist movie, it was also, at its heart, a story about social justice. Late great comedy director Ivan Reitman’s inventive political comedy Dave (1993), starring Kevin Kline in a dual role as both a sleazy president and his kindhearted regular-guy doppelgänger, stands as a shining beacon of sunny cinematic optimism from a happier time in this country’s history.
Frank Capra, that beloved helmer of movies focused on underdog triumphs during Hollywood’s Golden Age, emerges as a clear influence guiding Reitman through Dave, with a winning script from eventual Pleasantville director Gary Ross. The picture also leans heavily on Mark Twain’s The Prince and The Pauper, in that a regular guy who happens to look a lot like a current political leader is enlisted to switch places with said leader. This time, it’s temp agency owner Dave Kovic (Kline), hired to cover for corrupt and cruel U.
