Mob Psycho 100's manga ended in 2017, with the anime reaching its conclusion in 2022. Now fans of this psychic boy and his extraordinary adventures may be looking for something to fill that void left by the series ending. Delivering one of the best monster movies of the past decade, Hideaki Anno’s 2016 Shin Godzilla outpaced any of Hollywood’s output with the creature as of late. After jumping back into animation with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, he’s returned to live-action, writing and producing Shin Ultraman, which got a brief U.S. release earlier this year. Now, he’s back in the director’s chair with Shin Kamen Rider.

First emerging as a television show 50 years ago this year, created by Shotaro Ishinomori, the series follows a superhuman, motorcycle-riding hero who battles villains. Recently released in Japan, while we await news of a U.S. release, a pair of thrilling new trailers have now arrived for the film starring Sosuke Ikematsu, Minami Hamabe, Tasuku Emoto, Nanase Nishino, Shinya Tsukamoto, Toru Tezuka, Suzuki Matsuo, and Mirai Moriyama.

Filmmaker Hideaki Anno is one of Japan’s most imaginative and creative filmmakers working today. Whether it be his superb anime show “Neon Genesis Evangelion” or his excellent film “Shin Godzilla,” the auteur director has made a reputation for himself with his stylish filmmaking mixed with emotional storytelling and social commentary. Early on, Anno directed very grounded and haunting pieces of Japanese cinema but with touches of his usual insanity present throughout his work. His first live-action feature, “Love & Pop,” tells a powerful tale of the bond between a group of school girls and raises awareness of disturbing taboos within Japanese society. Following this, Anno would truly show his talents as a filmmaker in his intimate and beautiful film “Shiki-Jitsu.”

The title of the movie translates to “Ritual” or “Ceremonial Day.” The project would be produced by Studio Kajino, a subsidiary of the popular animation company Studio Ghibli.

Japanese Actor/Director Suzuki Matsuo has completed production on his most recent comedy “108: Revenge and Adventure of Goro Kaiba”. The absurd comedy sees Suzuki Matsuo, playing the titular character, along with Miho Nakayama as his spouse, Ayako.

“108: Revenge and Adventure of Goro Kaiba” is set for release on October 25th, 2019. A trailer for the production has been made available and can be viewed below.

Synopsis

Screenwriter Goro Kaiba (Suzuki Matsuo) is horrified to learn via Facebook that his wife Ayako (Miho Nakayama) is having an affair. Furthermore, her post about the affair has received 108 likes. Absolutely furious, Goro Kaiba contemplates divorcing his wife, but he estimates he will have to pay her half of his assets, about 10,000,000 million yen, in a divorce. To get revenge, Goro Kaiba decides to use that money on a epic one month womanizing streak. His goal is 108, the number of likes his wife received on social media.

Takashi Shimizu, an icon of modern Japanese horror cinema thanks to his hugely successful “Ju-on” series and its Hollywood “The Grudge” remakes, returns with “Shock Labyrinth”, the country’s first full length live action digital 3D feature. Shock horror! Japanese director Takashi Shimizu's ('Ju-on', 'The Grudge') horror-thriller 'The Shock Labyrinth 3D' is finally arriving on DVD here in the UK! It hit Japanese screens over a year ago but UK distributors Artificial Eye have scored the rights and are eyeing a January 24 release date. Yuya Yagira, Ai Maeda, Suzuki Matsuo, Shoichiro Masumoto, Ryo Katsuji, Misako Renbutsu and Erina Mizuno all star and the DVD itself will come in both 2D and 3D versions along with 2 pairs of (potentially cheap and useless) 3D glasses. Director/comedians are quite common in Japan. Some of Japan's most lauded filmmakers (think Takeshi Kitano and Hitoshi Matsumoto) fit this description, but there are others, somewhat more eclipsed by the cultural barriers that separate our entertainment world from theirs. Suzuki Matsuo is one of them and while his first few feature films come a long way in explaining his relative obscurity, Welcome To The Quiet Room is a big step up from his previous efforts.

I first encountered Matsuo while watching In The Pool. His appearance and comic timing is near perfect so when I learned of his directorial work I was immediately sold. Still, his first couple of films lacked coherence and punch and while they're still quite fun to watch they never really reached the potential his comedic talent seemed to suggest. But Matsuo worked hard to improve his skills and it definitely shows when watching his latest film.

Along with the list of films playing in-competition, the Venice Film Festival has announced which films are playing out-of-competition this year. The movies include Ben Affleck’s The Town, Casey Affleck’s Joaquin Phoenix documentary I’m Still Here, Martin Scorsese’s Elia Kazan documentary A Letter to Elia, John Turturro’s Passione, Julie Taymor’s The Tempest as the closing night film, and Robert Rodriguez’ Machete as the opening night film. Seoul -- "The Shock Labyrinth," the latest film from "The Grudge" director Takashi Shimizu, is to be a 3D live-action movie represented in international markets by Fortissimo Films.

The story takes place in a theme park near Mount Fuji and follows a group of teens dealing with the shock return of a friend they had assumed to be dead.

Produced by Japan's Asmik Ace, the film also marks Shimizu's return to genre filmmaking after a hiatus of several years.

"The production represented a great challenge in creating a brand new way of expressing fear and telling a dramatic story via the medium of 3-D film. I hope as many of you as possible will find yourselves trapped in my labyrinth and enjoy the experience," he said.

The film is in postproduction, having begun principal photography in early July.

It has been three years since Takashi Shimizu stood beside a film camera and worn his directorial hat—literally. Eschewing the black leather cap that was seemingly glued to his head throughout the production of the Japanese Ju-on and American Grudge movies that made his name, Shimizu is not only sporting new headwear for his newest feature, but is also shooting with a new, custom 3-D digital system, the first for such a production in Japan.

Journeying down to the city of Tateyama, Fango paid a visit to the set of The Shock Labyrinth 3D last week to catch up with director Shimizu’s return to feature filmmaking. Within the peeling walls of a local hospital, Shimizu and his crew are hard at work on one of the final days of shooting. Seated behind a large LCD monitor, the filmmaker reaches over to a spare set of 3-D glasses and hands them to this writer.

I wasn't exactly sure about this upcoming 3d flick from Takashi Shimizu backed by Asmik Ace which stars Yuya Yagira, Misako Renbutsu, Ryo Katsuji, Ai Maeda, Erina Mizuno, and Suzuki Matsuo. Why? Well it didn't sound like much original, but after seeing these technocolor stills, I'm sold. Shock Labyrinth is being shot (mostly) on location at the inspiration for the film, the worlds largest haunted house (according to Guiness) at the Fuji-q High Land amusement park near the base of Mt. Fuji,
