Actor Matthew Marsden, known for his roles as Paris in Helen of Troy and Stan in Prime Video’s Reacher, recently shared his thoughts on why Hollywood is dominated by woke and leftist ideas.
Marsden responded to a post on X, where someone pointed out that left-wing funding for movies and TV shows often comes without the expectation of making a profit. The post also suggested that taxpayer money is sometimes used to support these projects.
In his reply, Marsden explained how the left sees movies as a powerful tool to shape culture. He argued that even if a film doesn’t perform well financially, it still serves a purpose by spreading certain ideas and influencing audiences.

While the 2009 sequel to the original Transformers failed on many fronts and committed the cardinal sequel sin of rehashing the ideas of the first movie, it still delivered with its visuals. Despite being 15 years old, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen still puts many modern blockbusters to shame following its impressive visuals and on-location action sequences.
This is prominent during the film’s opening, which is often deemed one of the most impressive scenes the franchise has to offer and we’ve Bay’s stubbornness to thank for it.
Michael Bay Opted to Shoot the Massive Sequence on the First Week of Filming
Although it’s common for filmmakers to start productions on a small note and gradually catch pace after growing familiar with the crew, Michael Bay isn’t any other filmmaker. Known for making everything extravagant and loud, Bay prefers to “start ’em hard and fast”, as according to him,...

Sylvester Stallone believes Ryan Gosling would be a great choice to play Rambo in a reboot of the franchise, despite being "too good-looking." Stallone expressed his hope that someone else will pass the baton to continue the Rambo character, and thinks Gosling's affiliation with Rambo makes him a fitting choice. Although Stallone is done playing Rambo, there may still be a new project that recasts the role with a younger actor to appeal to a new generation.
Sylvester Stallone is unlikely to ever play John Rambo again, but he has an opinion on who should be next to step into the role – Barbie’s very own Ken, Ryan Gosling. Stallone has previously cited Gosling as a great choice to take on the role of Rambo in a reboot of the franchise, and doubled down on the statement while appearing on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show.

Light spoilers for Reacher season 1 and Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels.
Jack Reacher's military upbringing and his family's deep military ties have a profound impact on his life. Reacher's time at West Point — and service in the military police — provided him with extensive formal training. Despite leaving the Army, Reacher's military background continues to influence his life as a drifter.
Jack Reacher's military backstory informs every iteration of the iconic character, making it essential to know more about the character's past before delving into Amazon Prime Video's Reacher season 2. The protagonist of author Lee Child's enduring, long-running series of crime-thriller novels, Reacher is an ex-military man who roams the country, taking on dangerous odd jobs that require him to use his special set of skills. The TV series, which was developed by Nick Santora, stars Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher. While Reacher season 1 largely adapted Child's 1997 debut novel, Killing Floor,...

The term "vulgar auteurism" was coined in the early 2010s to describe the work of low art big-budget filmmakers like Michael Bay. I've always felt it was a silly expression, myself. "Auteur" is a loaded word for reasons too complicated to get into here, but for me, "auteur" isn't necessarily synonymous with quality. It simply refers to a storyteller with a clear set of interests and fixations.
In Bay's case, he worships those who wear badges and uniforms for a living, and his craft involves a form of technical maximalism that's come to be known as "Bayhem." As Bay once put it while explaining his love of Robert Wise's classic 1961 musical "West Side Story," "It was all about form, style, how they use the medium. That's what I try to do with my action."
The opening to Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is a perfect example of what he's talking about.

Why did Reacher's own mother only ever refer to him by his last name? Author Lee Child created Jack Reacher as an antidote to the crime novels that were popular during the '90s. So, instead of being an alcoholic overwhelmed by both personal and work problems, Reacher is a muscle-bound nomad who wanders from town to town and has few personal connections. He's Sherlock Holmes in the body of Dolph Lundgren, and trouble always seems to find him. Reacher season 1 touched on his upbringing a little with flashbacks involving his brother Joe, father Stan (Matthew Marsden), and mother Josephine (Leslie Fray).
These scenes involved Reacher beating up a local bully when the family moves to a new Army base. Joe takes the blame, but the incident ends up damaging their father's career after Reacher refuses to apologize. Not much is revealed about Stan or Josephine, though in a key flashback,...

Eddie Marsan has called out the friend of a college “bully” who tried to mock him on social media.
The London-born actor, who has been in the profession since the 1990s, has racked up an impressive string of credits throughout his career, including roles in Mission: Impossible III (2006), Mike Leigh film Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes (2009) and The World’s End (2013), directed by Edgar Wright.
On Monday (3 April), Marsan, 54, spotted a mean-spirited post on Twitter reading: “Do you ever scroll through Netflix, when you think that you’ve found a film to watch, all of a sudden you scream “Eww! F*** that! It’s got Eddie Marsan in it!”? It keeps happening...”

High school is hell for people like Jenna Dewan’s put-upon character in the 2006 horror movie Tamara. The pathetic namesake doesn’t have any friends to call her own, and she spends most of her time daydreaming about her hunky teacher when she’s not playing with the dark arts. Now, Tamara thinks her life is finally starting to improve when her crush comes a-calling, but as things tend to go in these kinds of movies, the sudden attention isn’t real. No, someone is out to humiliate her. And like other wronged women in the horror genre, Tamara won’t rest until she gets her revenge.
Before Tamara Riley takes the stage as a violent vixen from beyond the grave, Dewan plays a smart yet frequently bullied girl at Hafton High School. The performance is convincing, quickly endearing her to viewers. Director Jeremy Haft’s movie then goes down...

"This is my legacy." Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for Deadlock, another "why did you make this film, Bruce!?" action thriller starring Bruce Willis. We keep posting these trailers for bad Bruce Willis films because they're so remarkably bad and yet he keeps starring in them over and over and over. Deadlock stars Willis as Ron Whitlock, described as a wanted criminal leading a team of mercenaries on a mission of vengeance. Convinced that the government is working against them, the merciless group brutally seizes an energy plant and holds everyone inside hostage. So uh, he's a bad guy this time? Patrick Muldoon plays a retired army ranger who must take them out to save a nearby town. The cast includes Matthew Marsden, Lorenzo Antonucci, Ava Paloma, and Jared Bankens. Yeah, this looks as bad as it sounds - just watch the kick ass short film called Deadlock instead.

When a film opens with Scott Adkins rising from the mud with a scream in Indochina circa 1959, you begin cultivating expectations. You forgive the ham-fisted voiceover narration and the quick slow motion cuts disorienting place and time. You forgive the lack of context as to why this man (and a woman too) was trapped under mud in the first place because you’re re-situating yourself in your seat to brace for the impact of the actor’s fists against the flesh of whomever put him there. Maybe the woman is a love interest. Maybe she won’t survive. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hoped she wouldn’t so the bloodlust could increase further towards revenge. Sadly, vengeance — why I sat down at all — is still an hour away.

Ok, let’s all just say it together. Scott Adkins is the saviour of Dtv action movies. Charismatic, skilled and just a downright badass (and likeable) actor, whatever Adkins seemingly touches turns to gold – the Universal Soldier franchise was improved by his addition, as was the Undisputed series: in fact he made that particular fighting franchise Better with each and every sequel. Even the football-themed series Green Street was made watchable by the appearance of Adkins in the third installment, and that coming from someone who, typically, refuses to watch movies based on idiotic football hooligans.
Hold on… Turns out I may have a man-crush on Scott Adkins! And that’s not a bad thing.

You've gotta watch this trailer for the upcoming action thriller Savage Dog, which features Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables II) kicking ass as he embarks on a mission for revenge.
The movie looks like it came straight out of the early 1990s, which is why I'm kind of looking forward to watching it. I've seen a few trailers for upcoming action films recently that reminded me of movies from the 90s. Are 90s-style action movies making a comeback!? Yeah, it looks like a very low-budget flick, but sometimes it's just fun to sit back, relax, and watch a fun movie like this. Here's the synopsis:
Indochina, 1959. A Wild West town controlled by the criminal class: Vietnamese warlords and European war criminals. The worst prison in the land, it is here that a European, former-champion boxer Martin Tilman (Scott Adkins) has made a name for himself fighting tournaments. When Tilman is due for release,...

"There's a tale told somewhere south of Burma. The tale tells of a man..." XLrator Media has debuted an official trailer for an action movie titled Savage Dog, which looks like it's straight out of the 90s as an action movie mixing guns and martial arts and a ridiculous revenge plot and so much more. Scott Adkins stars as a former champion boxer stuck in a prison in Indochina in the late 1950s. When he is released, the people running the jail don't want him to leave and so he must figure out a way to get home. The full cast includes Marko Zaror, Juju Chan, Cung Le, Vladimir Kulich, Charles Fathy, Matthew Marsden, Sheena Chou, and the incomparable Keith David. I really don't know how to describe this, it has some cool action but it seriously looks like this was made 30 years ago and kept in a vault until now.

12 Years A Slave (15)
(Steve McQueen, 2013, Us/UK) Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong'o, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano. 134 mins
What with the acclaim, the awards buzz and the harrowing subject matter, finally seeing McQueen's slavery drama now feels like a duty. But this is an "issue movie" unlike any other, both in its deliberate formalism and its under-represented history. Along with Ejiofor's abductee, we're fully immersed in a slavery system so brutally oppressive even the expression of suffering is forbidden. McQueen gives us a study of institutionalised cruelty, the forces propping it up and its innumerable victims.
The Railway Man (15)

More often than not, films gain a cult following purely by accident. That’s almost the point. However every now and again filmmakers present their work with the sole intention of achieving that cult status, and it simply feels too contrived, defeating the object somewhat. Henry Saine’s Bounty Killer can be accused of just that, in a film that is full to the brim of corny one-liners. There are only so many you can implement before they lose their impact – and this feels like a screenplay made up of t-shirt slogans.
Set in the not too distant future, we enter into a post-apocalyptic society where corporations have displaced the government. However a rebellion is sparked amongst the people, and the Council of Nine have issued death warrants for all of the guilty, white collar criminals. Those undertaking the murders are the Bounty Killers – a heroic and adulated group whose...

I hadn’t heard of Bounty Killer till a couple of YouTubers (Coolduder, Wetmovie1) mentioned the film in their usual DVD and Blu-ray round-ups. The title alone intrigued me, after all I had enjoyed the previous “bounty hunter” flicks I’d seen: Michael Dudikoff’s Bounty Hunters and Bounty Hunters 2: Hardball and the recent Trish Stratus (WWE Diva) starring Bounty Hunters. So I was bound to enjoy a film that not only featured bounty hunters, but was called Bounty Killer, right?
In a word. Yes! In fact two words: Hell Yes!
Based on a short film of the same name (and also the graphic novel adaptation) by Jason Dodson and Henry Saine, Bounty Killer is set 20 years after corporations took over the world s governments.

Welcome back to This Week In Discs! If you see something you like, click on the title to buy it from Amazon. Bounty Killer The future! Corporations grew too powerful and went to war with each other with the real victims being the rest of society. A council was organized to issue bounties on the heads of CEOs responsible for the apocalypse, and Drifter (Matthew Marsden) and Mary Death (Christian Pitre) are two of the best bounty killers to answer the call. Throw in an army of Juggalo-like Gypsies, Gary Busey, and the female Terminator from Rise of the Machines (Kristanna Loken), and the two bounty killers are forced into a surprising fight for their own lives. This low budget, post-apocalyptic action/comedy packs more fun, creativity, and clear love for movies into its ninety minute run-time than far too many big Hollywood productions manage these days. Cast: Matthew Marsden, Kristanna Loken, Christian Pitre, Barak Hardley, Abraham Benrubi and Gary Busey. This film critic is not a fan of writing negative reviews. However, reviews can sometimes serve as a warning, to steer viewers away from certain material. Henry Saine's (The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu) Bounty Killer is a film that most film fans will want to skip. Based on a 2013 comic book, Bounty Killer offers silly situations in a future post-apocalyptic landscape. The film also offers very little in its characters, while trying to trump up its shortfalls by offering almost every genre in the book. With a simplistic title like Bounty Killer, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this indie action flick, but the film quickly asserted itself as a heavy hitting, big-gun-toting action extravaganza unlike anything I could have predicted. Henry Saine’s dystopian universe is created with a very eccentric eye for detail and a gutsiness comparable to a swinging pair of brass balls, as the bullets quickly started flying and blood started splattering against the walls like a freakin’ Jackson Pollock painting. Ignore the “independent” classification this film might have, because Saine has created a film that stacks up against the year’s biggest blockbuster productions – and kicks some of their asses in the process.

Just one day after the news that Sylvester Stallone may reprise his classic John Rambo role for a Rambo TV series, the actor's rep revealed he is not coming back to star. Here's what the actor's press representative had to say in a statement.
"While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen."
The rep went on to say that the actor may still be involved with the series in a creative capacity, but a deal hasn't been finalized yet.
Sylvester Stallone portrayed John Rambo in First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1988) and Rambo (2008). Now that Sly is not strapping on the headband once again, who would you like to see play John Rambo in the upcoming TV series?...
