You would think, wouldn’t you, that a good country singer who gives a good performance on The Voice stands a good chance of being stolen by coach Kelsea Ballerini. But Monday’s third night of the Battles threw that theory out the window. Read on, and we’ll discuss the twist and everything else that went down.
Team Kelsea: Iris Herrera (Grade: B) defeated Simone Marijic (Grade: B+) on “Ceilings” — Simone stolen by Michael | On Lizzy McAlpine’s gorgeous ballad, Iris and Simone both fared pretty well, so it really came down to a question of whose approach to the song one preferred.

Sometimes concerts come with a history lesson. Monday’s main event at New York’s City Winery was one such evening, as the organization If You Heard What I Heard presented a “Night of Resilience” fundraiser. The headliner was reggae rapper Matisyahu, but the main focus was never forgetting the Holocaust.
Matisyahu has turned into a lightning rod, vocally supporting Israel at a time when protests over the Gaza war are starting to spike again. Last year, three of his concerts were canceled when staffers refused to work at the venues. There was no such problem at City Winery, which was patrolled by a large security force hired by the nonprofit. They weren’t taking any chances.
“No one will stop us from holding our concert,” If You Heard founder and executive director Carolyn Siegel declared in her opening remarks. It was their second such effort with Matisyahu as the...

The Notorious B.I.G.’s estate has closed on a deal to sell a stake in the legendary rapper’s catalog to Primary Wave, the company confirmed on Thursday.
The deal comes weeks after The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news on the deal’s development.. Primary Wave didn’t disclose the financial details of the deal. Sources previously told THR that Biggie’s publishing rights were up for about $100 million, while the master rights were on the table for another 30 to 50 million. Sources said the deal gives Primary Wave 50 percent to both rights, as well as his name and likeness.
Voletta Wallace died last month, and as the Wall Street Journal reported, she reached the deal just before her death.

British royal family news divulges that King Charles is now looking at alternate cancer treatments amid his ongoing battle with cancer.
Buckingham Palace sources spill that the monarch has tried medical cannabis as a complementary treatment to chemotherapy. According to GeoTV, research suggests that the plant may destroy cancer cells and provide pain relief.
King Charles’ Alt Med Treatments
A palace aide told Radar Online that the regent is willing to try a plethora of potential cures: “The cancer diagnosis has rocked him to the core and he feels there’s no harm in trying something experimental.”
The king supports homeopathic medicines “and sees there is no danger in trying the cannabis route. He’s read all the studies around its benefits and is giving it a go.”
On a down note the aide added that the monarch “wants to make it until at least his 77th birthday – but knows...

The Makings of Curtis Mayfield is a bit of a misleading title for the oblique documentary directed by the Grammy- and Oscar-winning musician H.E.R. The name, a riff on Mayfield’s honeyed 1970 ballad “The Makings of You,” implies an intimacy with the subject and promises a detailed, if not necessarily comprehensive, introduction to the radical artist.
But H.E.R.’s film, which premiered at SXSW, doesn’t really offer any of that. The musician finds her own way to capture Mayfield, one that relies heavily on conversations with filmmakers, producers and fellow musicians. The path occasionally yields a fascinating insight — like when Jimmy Jam talks about how Mayfield was one of the first Black artists to own their master recordings — but more often it can feel a little too meandering and disjointed. Mayfield the person frequently gets lost in the mélange of testimonies.
That might be alienating for general...

Kate Middleton joined her husband, Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester yesterday for the annual Commonwealth Day Services.
This Year’s Commonwealth Day Marked The 80th Anniversary Of The End Of World War II
The commemorations marked the 80th centenary of the ending of the Second World War and it was a celebration of the Family of Nations, which is how the Commonwealth is often described.
It was the first time the Princess of Wales attended the event since her cancer treatment. Kate looked radiant and dignified as usual as she walked with William. She was wearing a bold red Catherine Walker Beau Tie coat dress, which featured a fashionable bow.
Her jewelry was also notable as she accessorized with pearl earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. She also wore the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Japanese pearl choker.

Few wardrobe staples are as iconic as a denim jacket and musicians have long embraced the layering piece as part of their on-stage — and off-stage — looks. From Bob Marley and Bob Dylan to Madonna and Pharrell, a denim jacket can be at once luxe and laidback, spanning genres as varied as country and hip-hop, and all ages, genders and personal expressions too.

Depeche Mode, the post-synth-pop group that made sensual broodiness a part of the mainstream, have returned with a new album titled Memento Mori. You can stream it below.
Memento Mori, their first album in five years, is also their official return after the loss of founding member Andrew “Fletch” Fletcher in 2022. Their 15th record and much like many others of the last few years, Memento Mori is rooted in the unexpectedly free time the pandemic granted. The loneliness it bred thematically strings the tracks together, along with some more characteristically defining tropes of the group, like the binary between depuration and delight, and delusive devotion. Production by James Ford and Marta Salogni was key in communicating such rich yet glum atmospheres.
In an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music 1, Dave Gahan touched on how minimalism was a part of the group’s approach to the new album. “Some of...

After “Mulk” (2018), “Article 15” (2019), “Thappad” (2020) and “Anek” (2022), filmmaker Anubhav Sinha is back with “Bheed,” another hard-hitting film that shines a light on the fabric of Indian society.
The film is set during the 2020 Indian pandemic lockdown and tells the poignant story of migrant workers stranded without basic necessities while trying to go home to their villages. Shot in black and white, it is deliberately evocative of the 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan when people were uprooted from their homes in the largest migration in history.
“When the pandemic hit, people were seeking help on Twitter. Everybody had different strengths so we were helping each other and, and I really got sucked into it. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler explains Rihanna's involvement in the film. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 blockbuster by the same director, Black Panther. As the final film in the McU's Phase Four, the box office projections for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are already nearing 200 million, promising another hit for Marvel. The film is also set to pay tribute to the first film's lead, Chadwick Boseman, whose tragic passing due to colon cancer has been mourned both on- and off-screen since it occurred in 2020.
The success of Black Panther can be attributed to many factors, including Boseman's exceptional performance and energy as T'Challa. The soundtrack, created in collaboration with musical artist Kendrick Lamar, was certainly also a component. Since the soundtrack for the first film was such a big hit with both critics and listeners, many have eagerly anticipated information on the sequel's track list.

At long, long last we’re getting new music from Rihanna. After her 2016 album Anti, which was a significant creative departure from her previous records and her first album since departing Def Jam Records, fans have been waiting impatiently for more material.
The singer hasn’t just been twiddling her thumbs all this time, though. She has an extensive business portfolio, with one of her biggest being the Fenty Beauty brand which was founded in 2017, and has expanded into a profitable lingerie and skincare line as well.
She also had several huge acting roles since releasing Anti, including as a cast member of Ocean’s 8 and a major role in the science fiction film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Rihanna is also a new mom, having had a child with the rapper Aap Rocky.

The number of contestants still in the running to become the next American Idol can (almost) be counted with just two hands. Sunday’s episode, the show’s second at-home broadcast, narrowed down the Season 18 pack, eliminating nearly half of the remaining competitors. (There is one upside to performing remotely: No one was “sent home.” They were already there!)
The evening began with an emotional performance of “Home” by Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, an on-the-nose introduction to an episode about — wait for it — home! Throughout the episode, Ryan Seacrest revealed which singers made the cut, followed by those contestants’ performances...

In 2016, Zak Starkey — musician and son of Ringo Starr — and his Sshh bandmate Sharna “Sshh” Liguz teamed with Eddie Vedder and a slew of reggae legends, including Wailers drummer Carlton “Santa Davis,” to record a cover of Bob Marley’s “Get Up Stand Up.” The track made its way back to Jamaica, earning Starkey and Liguz an invitation to perform at the opening of the Peter Tosh Museum, in Kingston. Since then, the pair have returned regularly to the island, working closely with local musicians and concocting plans for a new reggae label,...

The estate of Whitney Houston has officially announced that “Whitney,” an “intimate, definitive account of the superstar’s life and career,” will be released July 6. A powerhouse team of Oscar winners is at the helm of this documentary. Leading the charge is director, Kevin Macdonald, who won an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2000 (“One Day in September”). He earned further acclaim for his 2006 biopic on Ugandan President Idi Amin, “The Last King of Scotland,” for which Forest Whitaker took home the Oscar for Best Actor and his 2012 feature about reggae legend Bob Marley (“Marley”).
For “Whitney,” Macdonald was granted exclusive rights to a vault of unheard music and never-before-seen video footage spanning the entirety of the late singer’s legendary career. Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief, Dame Anna Wintour, stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden Wednesday night and a series of shocking events occurred. She broke from her deadpan gaze and shed her signature black shades, snacked on a piece of bacon-wrapped pizza (what?) and revealed industry gossip we never thought we’d hear.
During the segment, Wintour and Corden played the infamously disgusting game of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” For those unfamiliar, the participant either chooses to answer a tough question or eat something pretty foul, which for Wintour is fast food.

There has been no official word on a sequel to The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. But now it seems a TV series may be crafted instead of a third movie.
Troy Duffy, who wrote and directed both Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, has revealed that there is interest in turning the franchise into a weekly Boondock Saints show.
Here's what the writer-director had to say below, indicating that franchise stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus would return as the McManus brothers for this small screen project.
"We've been approached to do a possible Boondock Saints TV series. So the fans may be getting a part 3 as a television show. We might be able to pull that off....I actually called both Sean and Norman and they both said 'Hell yeah, we'll drop everything.'

Like its predecessor, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is a rocking, firework popping action extravaganza that doesn’t add anything deep to the series but what it does is bring us the continuation of a cult classic that after 10 years hasn’t missed a beat.
It would be a disservice to harp on Troy Duffy’s issues getting this film made and the hoops it probably took for him to finally get it off the ground, but like its creator this film is messy, vulgar, violent and completely senseless but in way that’s lovable just like the its cult classic predecessor.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day will expand to more theaters across the nation after the sequel to the 1999 cult hit performed well in limited release. Film distributor Apparition will open the movie in more cities including San Francisco, Dallas, San Diego, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta and Houston on November 13th.
Boondock Saints II nabbed $500,000 last weekend in Los Angeles in New York. Using a tactic most recently used by Paramount’s Paranormal Activity, producers set up a web page asking fans to “demand” that the film be shown in their area.
Directed by Troy Duff , the Boondock sequel stars Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery, Clifton Collins, Julie Benz, Judd Nelson, Robert Cochrane Marley Jr., Brian Mahoney, David Ferry, David Della Rocco, Peter Fonda and Billy Connolly.

If you went to college in the last 8 years, chances are you've seen The Boondock Saints. In fact, chances are you or a friend of yours went through a phase where you lauded it as the "most awesome movie ever". Maybe you've since come down from that Troy Duffy-lovin' cloud - maybe not. Personally, there was a time when I loved Boondock Saints for what is was: a trashy Saturday afternoon action flick that acted as an odd tribute to action flicks everywhere.

Truly enjoy it while it lasts because Boondock Saints doesn't get better with each viewing, it has the unfortunate tendency to get a little bit worse each time. Few recent films have as loyal a fanbase as does Troy Duffy's The Boondock Saints. I'm not sure if that's proper English, but you get the point. Boondock fans (or, as I like to call them as of this minute, Boondoggies) have been Sure that Duffy was starting in on a Part 2 several times over the past few years -- but they were wrong. Now they're right.
