After his heroics in Season 1, The Night Agent’s Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) has a new role in Season 2 — and his work is all the more complicated. “Like anyone in a new job, he’s figuring it out,” executive producer Shawn Ryan said in TV Insider’s digital cover story. “Only in this line of work, one mistake can get you killed.” Before streaming Season 2, which drops on Netflix on Thursday, January 23, you might need a briefing on Season 1. Here’s where went down in The Night Agent’s debut season… The series picks up with cybersecurity entrepreneur Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) escaping two assassins who kill her aunt and uncle, Emma (Simone Kessell) and Henry Campbell (William MacDonald), both of whom are members of the Night Agent spy program. Before their deaths, the Campbells tell Rose a phone number and a codeword that leads her to the undercover operation.

There hasn’t been a lot to celebrate for Lakers fans this season, but tonight LeBron James delivered something special. Multi-time Grammy-winning singer Usher is set to executive produce Storyville, a New Orleans-set series about the birth of the Jazz Age. According to Variety, the series comes from creators and showrunners Bill Macdonald (Rome) and Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) and is currently in development at Starlings Television. Usher has signed on to executive produce “Storyville,” a new series about the birth of the Jazz Age in development from Starlings Television. The multi-Grammy Award-winning performer will exec produce along with creators and showrunners Bill Macdonald (“Rome”) and Walt Becker (“Wild Hogs”).

Paramount Pictures is in early negotiations with Chris Pratt to star in a movie reboot of “The Saint,” two decades after Val Kilmer’s thriller and 50 years after Roger Moore’s TV series.

Pratt’s deal is not closed. He became a worldwide star after headlining Disney-Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and its upcoming sequel (2019). He also starred in “Passengers” with Jennifer Lawrence, and long-running NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”

The studio secured a deal for book series rights in 2016 and set up a producing deal with Lorenzo di Bonaventura with the goal of starting an action franchise.

“The Saint” is based on Leslie Charteris’ book series, which follow the debonair Simon Templar character first introduced in the 1928 novel “Meet the Tiger,” followed by “Enter the Saint” in 1930. Templar stole from corrupt politicians and warmongers, leaving a calling card of a stick figure with a halo.

As has been the case in past years, the last couple weekends in April see a couple movies hoping to bring in any amount of money before the first big summer blockbuster, and other movies that will steal away their theaters. Last weekend was pretty sad, but hopefully a few of this weekend’s movies will fare better.

Uncork’d Entertainment and Viva Pictures announce the acquisition of U.S. rights to the dark psychological thriller Cold Blooded from Guildwood Entertainment. There's always something to be said for a quick and efficient crime thriller that introduces its characters and premise in an efficient manner, and then keeps throwing you bloody curve balls before jolting to a finish in less than 90 minutes. The new Canadian flick Cold Blooded isn't exactly deep, dense, or swollen with subtext, but it does offer a great female lead, a rather novel plot hook, and it keeps you interested in between the action bits. That last part is always important in a low-budget thriller, and it's something that writer/director Jason Lapeyre is aware of. It only takes some simple but strong dialogue, a few interesting characters, and something the audience can root for (or against), and then they're putty in a filmmaker's hands.

I’ll give him this: Jason Lapeyre sure didn’t skimp on the blood for his intense looking crime flick “Cold Blooded”. I’m not entirely sure how hygienic it is for the film’s lead to be walking around what seems like half the movie with her face caked in blood, though. Based on the classic Jack London adventure story, Call of the Wild follows the thrilling exploits of 18 year-old Miles Challenger and his loyal canine companion Buck. Eartha Kitt, who used her seductive purr and sultry style to charm audiences as an actress, singer and cabaret star, died Thursday of colon cancer. She was 81.

The cancer was detected about two years ago and treated, but it recurred after a period of remission. Kitt recently had been treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

"She came back strongly; she had been performing until two months ago," said Andrew Freedman, a longtime friend and publicist. "We had dates booked through 2009."

Among Kitt's hits was the Christmas tune "Santa Baby," lending poignancy to her Christmas Day death. The song went gold this year, and she received the gold record before she died, Freedman said.

Slinky and catlike, Kitt described herself as a "sex kitten": She followed Julie Newmar in the role of Catwoman on the TV series "Batman" during the 1960s.

But the seductress also could be a political provocateur.

Staffers at The New York Times are dismayed the newspaper snubbed the brilliant and funny writer Monique Yazigi by refusing to run her obituary. Yazigi died last week at age 45 of breast cancer.
