Beware of people who invite you to a Huey Lewis and the News listening party, and make sure your business cards aren’t too fancy. Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations to direct an American Psycho movie. Guadagnino’s version, which is set to be a new story interpretation, comes from Lionsgate. Scott Z. Burns will write the adaptation, with plans to take creative license with Bret Easton Ellis’s novel.
The following description hails from Amazon’s landing page for Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho novel:
In American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis imaginatively explores the incomprehensible depths of madness and captures the insanity of violence in our time or any other. Patrick Bateman moves among the young and trendy in 1980s Manhattan. Madelyn Cline had all the talent to be a successful actress in the industry. And she kickstarted this journey when she was a preteen herself. What started as participating in talent and modeling shows, quickly escalated to the actress headlining one of the most promising Netflix show out there.

In the wild world of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan crafted some epic drama that had everyone talking. But did you know he took inspiration from The Godfather to keep Kevin Costner away from one actor? Yep! Sheridan, channeling some serious mob boss vibes, knew how to play the game behind the scenes.

As the tensions on set rose, he drew from that iconic film’s intense family dynamics, creating a unique atmosphere that kept the cast on their toes. By making strategic choices about who Costner interacted with, Sheridan ensured the show’s fiery energy never fizzled out.

We first started this trip with everything we know about Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 in the middle of 2023.
While we finally have a premiere date, news about spinoffs and what happens next constantly fluctuates. There’s even a special showing of the Part 2 premiere on CBS!
Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Has Yellowstone Been Renewed?
Yellowstone has not been renewed. But it might not be canceled, either.
The unknown world we’re in now was the result of behind-the-scenes drama between series creator Taylor Sheridan and Dutton patriarch Kevin Costner.
Initially, it was alleged that Kevin Costner didn’t want to commit to filming six more episodes, with reports claiming he gave a small window of availability.
The actor’s representatives shut down those claims, claiming Sheridan hadn’t completed scripts, pushing filming beyond reason. It was then revealed that the...

Kevin Costner has been the face of "Yellowstone" since it debuted in 2018. As the head of the Dutton Yellowstone ranch, John Dutton, Costner is undoubtedly part of the reason Paramount's neo-Western series has become so popular. But it's not just Costner that has portrayed the Dutton patriarch. Josh Lucas plays a younger version of the character on the series, and was actually approached about the role before "Yellowstone" even shot its pilot episode. This was just one of the elements that show creator Taylor Sheridan had mapped out ahead of time, too.
In a 2022 Deadline interview, Lucas recalled being told how, once the location for the Dutton Ranch was confirmed, Sheridan "walked around and pointed at certain points, and said, 'This will happen here in season 1,' and 'This will happen here in season 2. And here's where the graveyard goes.'" The "A Beautiful Mind" and "Sweet Home Alabama...

As Carol Burnett makes Emmy Awards history this weekend, Abe Sylvia is reflecting on his collaboration with the comedy legend.
The Palm Royale creator explained that he had the “biggest imposter syndrome” after Burnett came to be cast as wealthy comatose matriarch Norma Dellacorte in his Apple TV+ series, which was renewed for a second season back in June.
“I didn’t have anyone in mind. But we have a fantastic casting director, Kerry Barden, and he really encouraged us to shoot for the moon,” he recalled to Collider. “It was his idea to go after Carol Burnett for Norma. I said, ‘I don’t know. She’s in a coma. Does that feel too small?’ And he was like, ‘Let’s just ask. There’s no hurt in asking.’ And when Carol said yes, I went into my office and cried with the biggest imposter syndrome. I was like,...

When it comes to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, we’ve seen enough of old men chasing after women half their age—let’s mix it up, shall we? While Kevin Costner’s John Dutton has already solidified his place as the rugged patriarch, there’s a fresh opportunity brewing. Picture this: a spin-off that gives Dutton the justice he deserves, minus the tired tropes, and introduces a new face ready to blow the audience away.

For Palm Royale makeup and hair department heads Tricia Sawyer and Karen Bartek, Slim Aarons’ 1960s photography served as the biggest inspiration for nailing the looks of a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Carol Burnett, Ricky Martin and Leslie Bibb.
“Aarons really captured the essence of Palm Beach in that time period,” Sawyer tells THR. “He has several books that I referred to daily. There are also some videos online of Palm Beach society women of the period that were helpful.”
Palm Royale follows Wiig’s Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, an outsider who strives to attain a place in Palm Beach’s high society. Almost every actor in the series, which has been renewed for a second season, references the hair or makeup of a famous actress or icon of the era, explains Bartek. Brad Anderson’s Session 9 has been one of my favorite psychological horror films ever since I caught a theatrical screening of it at a 24 hour horror marathon in 2001, so it’s cool to hear that horror and dark fantasy author Christian Francis – who has previously written novelizations of the films Wishmaster, Titan Find/Creature, and Vamp – is giving Anderson‘s cult classic the novelization treatment, with Echo Horror Publications planning to send the book out into the world on October 4th – just in time for Halloween season reading!
Starring David Caruso, Peter Mullan, Paul Guilfoyle, Josh Lucas, Stephen Gevedon, and Brendan Sexton III, Session 9 features one of the most epic F-bombs in cinema history and tells the following story: Grand, imposing… abandoned and deteriorating, the Danvers State Mental Hospital, closed down for 15 years is about to receive 5 new visitors. Donning protective gear, the men of the Hazmat Elimination Co.

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Carol Burnett is entering the “Palm Royale” episode “Maxine Shakes the Tree” as her 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. “Maxine Shakes the Tree” aired on April 3 and is the fifth episode of the first season of the Apple TV+ series.
In this episode, Norma (Burnett) has awaken from her coma but is unable to pronounce words, engaging in conversations through lots of mumbling and groaning. Maxine interprets one of Norma’s murmurs to mean she should confront Douglas (Josh Lucas) about his past engagement to Linda (Laura Dern), so she brings Norma along in a wheelchair. A flashback reveals that Norma was the one who helped Douglas run away to Chattanooga for Maxine and ditch Linda at the altar. At the end, Linda tells Norma that it’s over and tosses her Rolodex’s contents into the fire while all Norma can do is groan.

Taylor Sheridan’s brainchild, Yellowstone, has truly taken the bull by the horns in the American cultural rodeo, yet it seems to be galloping into uncharted waters. Despite its soaring popularity, akin to a high-flying eagle in the mountainous Montana sky, and branding of it as “the most red-state show” on TV, it curiously remains an underdog in the eyes of critics.
While many admirers are thrilled about Yellowstone, some detractors do not share this enthusiasm because they claim the show purposefully promotes conservative ideals. But Sheridan won’t accept such whines.

A closer look at the numbers reveals an intriguing paradox: Succession, the media darling, is Yellowstone’s mirror image in its depiction of a patriarch’s empire at a crossroads. However, in a head-to-head viewership showdown, Yellowstone’s episodes more often defeated its rival in the previous season.

This weekend sees the release of Twisters, a movie that tries to continue the legacy of the classic 1996 film with new stars and cutting-edge VFX and is Universal’s next big hope for a franchise. However, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell are an unproven commodity at the box office, and no one seems quite sure what kind of opening it will have. One way or another, it’ll open in the top spot, but box office analysts are having a field day. I’ve read reports that run a pretty wide gamut, with some naysayers predicting it won’t open above $40 million, while others, such as the usually reliable BoxOfficePro, expect it to make in the $60-75 million range (an unusually wide spread for them).
The movie’s big selling point, outside the tornadoes, is second-billed star Glen Powell, who Hollywood is positioning as the next big star. While Powell is charming and popular,...

The sprawling vistas of Yellowstone National Park with its majestic wildlife and the iconic figure of John Dutton overseeing it all—it’s a scene that has become synonymous with gripping drama and Kevin Costner’s indelible portrayal. Trying to imagine Yellowstone without Costner is akin to picturing the Dutton ranch devoid of its defining cattle herds—a scenario that loyal fans of the series find nearly inconceivable.

Horror movies are a dime a dozen, so it's imperative that we celebrate the good ones when they arrive. Regrettably, audiences often miss out on a novel new entry to the genre due to bad or misleading marketing, poorly timed release dates, or an inability to grasp a unique concept, causing a potential blockbuster to flame out at the box office. On many occasions, such pictures will earn solid reviews from critics and go on to achieve cult status thanks to solid word-of-mouth. In other instances, however, many impeccably made horror pictures needlessly fade into obscurity after bombing in theaters and never find the success they deserve.
Well, I'm here to put an end to the madness. I've scoured the World Wide Web and located a handful of horror box office bombs with great RottenTomatoes scores in dire need of more attention. Some of these entries, like John Carpenter's classic "The Thing,...

Despite not making a huge splash upon its release back in the 2000s, since then, American Psycho has garnered a major cult following, which boosted Christian Bale to prominence. In recent years, the fascination with the character has only elevated among viewers, and for better or worse, Patrick Bateman has kind of become a role model to many of them, despite his psychopathic tendencies.
Although most would agree that Bateman is far from an upstanding role model for anyone, whose character serves as a parody of ultra-capitalism, this hasn’t stopped fans from impersonating him.

That said, one fan seems to have figured out just that, that is the best way Taylor Sheridan could end the story of the Dutton family of this era. And, remarkably enough, not only does this fan-devised ending avoid the Montana-sized problem of what to do with Costner’s character, but it also immaculately explains how this smash hit series could conclude without giving a motley ending!

It’s not so easy having movie-star good looks.
At least that’s according to Palm Royale‘s Josh Lucas, who admitted that he often found himself typecast or just straight-up written off in Hollywood because he was almost too easy on the eyes.
“I was thoroughly dismissed for it, frankly,” Lucas told Chloë Sevigny in a conversation for Vanity Fair. “It was like, ‘Oh, you’re an LA TV guy. You’re a pretty boy LA TV guy.’ I couldn’t break through that door. And then it’s frankly always been a bit of a, ‘Oh, you’re a Sweet Home Alabama guy.’ I consciously—and probably did very difficult damage to my career—was trying so hard to fight against that. I did a thousand independent movies that nobody saw. I tried to be Sean Penn in all of them.”

In the context of the psychological thriller American Psycho, Josh Lucas recently revealed a moment that sparkled with genuine warmth during the high-stress filming of this cult classic. Lucas, a rising star at the time, recalled a heartwarming gesture from his seasoned co-star Willem Dafoe, which not only calmed his nerves but also imparted a wise piece of advice that he has carried with him since.
The 2000 genre-defying masterpiece, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel & helmed by Mary Harron, is known for its chilling narrative. Still, it’s the remarkable instance of Dafoe’s support—during the making of this horror satire—that showcases the undiminished human spirit behind the scenes.

FX’s anthology series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” may boast an illustrious cast that includes the likes of Naomi Watts, Tom Hollander, Demi Moore, Calista Flockhart, Diane Lane, and Treat Williams in his final performance, but for fellow cast member Chloë Sevigny, there was only one who made her feel like a shy kid again. Speaking with Josh Lucas for a conversation published in Vanity Fair, Sevigny praised all of her castmates and how accessible they were, but admitted one did leave her taken aback.
“I had met some of them socially, just out at events and whatnot, but most of them have daughters, which was interesting,” Sevigny said. “They’re a little older than me, a little my senior, but also I’m a die-hard fan of every one of them, especially Molly [Ringwald]. I was overtaken mostly by her, but they were all so warm and everybody was so open.

“American Psycho” co-stars Chloë Sevigny and Josh Lucas recently reunited for a discussion with Vanity Fair in which the two reflected on their leading man, Christian Bale, whose apparent Method acting to play the serial killer Patrick Bateman left Sevigny confused and intimidated on set. Sevigny starred in the film as Patrick’s secretary, Jean.
“I was trying to respect his process, which I found challenging because I’m very gregarious and silly and goofy, unbeknownst to the general public,” Sevigny said. “When people take themselves so seriously, I kind of shut down, even though I take my work very seriously and I love acting and whatnot.”
“I wanted a little more generosity to make myself feel more at ease, which is my own ego,” she added. “It was a really challenging dynamic for me, but I don’t think that I thought he was bad. I was just kind of confused,...

Apple TV+ is booking a return trip to circa-1969 Palm Beach.
The tech giant’s streaming service has renewed Palm Royale for a second season. The pickup for the Kristen Wiig-led comedy comes about a month after the 10-episode first season concluded.

Kristen Wiig is heading back to sunny Palm Beach as Apple TV+ has renewed its hit freshman series Palm Royale for a second season.
Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society. Armed with fabulous ensembles and accessories, as well as her quick wit, Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots. The dramedy asks the same question: How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?
“We are so thrilled to hear about Season 2,” said executive producer Dern. “Jayme and I [with Jaywalker Pictures] have been dreaming up this project for so long in hopes that audiences would have delicious fun with the radical ride that is the world of Palm Royale.
