Since getting his big break crafting jokes for Bette Midler in the early 1970s, Emmy-winning comedy writer and personality Bruce Vilanch has found success writing for the small screen and stage. But by his own admission, the scribe behind 25 Academy Award ceremonies and more than his fair share of Miss Universe and USA pageants has also penned some real flops.
In his new book, “It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time: The Worst TV Shows in History and Other Things I Wrote,” Vilanch walks readers through some of the most ill-conceived projects he’s been attached to over the years — from 1978’s “The Star Wars Holiday Special” to the now infamous 1989 Oscars ceremony that opened with Rob Lowe and Snow White pirouetting to “Proud Mary.”

According to one star of the series, a revival of The Brady Bunch came close to happening, only to be squashed before getting to production. Allegedly, this was due in part to Susan Olsen publicly expressing her political opinions.
In the classic sitcom, Olsen played Cindy Brady, the youngest of Carol's (Florence Henderson) three girls. During a recent interview for the "Walk Away Campaign" podcast (per Vanity Fair), Olsen said that CBS Studios had a planned Brady Bunch revival series in the works. The show was said to have followed Cindy and her siblings, now as adults, with Olsen's character portrayed as a libertarian podcaster. However, it's alleged that the network wound up scrapping the project due to Olsen's conservative views, particularly about her support for Donald Trump and criticism of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The blended family from The Brady Bunch were not as popular during their original run on ABC as they are today. The ’70s sitcom became a favorite among children and teenagers, who loved to see the sibling dynamics between the three brothers and three sisters. However, they apparently shared more than sibling love off-screen.

The Brady Bunch saw Robert Reed’s Mike Brady and Florence Henderson’s Carol Martin marry each other, both having been married earlier with kids. Mike has three sons—Greg, Peter, and Bobby—and Carol has three daughters—Marcia, Jan, and Cindy. The couple adopts each other’s children and the sitcom explores this unconventional big family.

On Dec. 16, 1974, 20th-Fox and Warner Bros. unveiled in theaters what would become a landmark disaster movie: The 170-minute, John Guillermin-directed Towering Inferno. The movie, which took in $116 million domestically at the time, tops The Hollywood Reporter’s list of greatest disaster movies of all time. THR’s original review of the feature is below:
Movie technology is the star of this awesome Irwin Allen production, a formula disaster picture made into an event by the sheer size of its inflating production values. More ordeal than entertainment, it overwhelms the spectator like a bully playing on the fears of a society trapped in its own burning affluence.
Since the screenplay by Stirling Silliphant has nothing new to say (the “insanity” of building skyscrapers is dealt with in Earthquake), and the general doomsday appeal of the disaster genre has already been established, The Towering Inferno‘s appeal lies entirely in immediate visceral reactions.

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s can tell you the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls, and a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. Of course, one day, the lady met this fellow, and the rest is TV history. When Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) married Mike Brady (Robert Reed), all six of their children came together, along with their trusty maid Alice (Ann B. Davis), to become the sitcom family known as "The Brady Bunch."

HGTV suffered a significant financial loss when the iconic Brady Bunch house sold for $2.3 million less than the original listing price of $5.5 million. The property was ultimately sold for $3.2 million, which the listing agent believed was a more accurate value for a house that is not suitable for living and subject to restrictive Airbnb rental laws. Despite the loss, HGTV invested $1.9 million in renovations to transform the house into a full replica of the famous show, preserving its iconic status in television history.

HGTV has sold The Brady Bunch house and it did so at below the asking price and below the price they paid when they purchased it back in 2018.
The Los Angeles home served as the exterior shot of the popular 1970s sitcom. HGTV bought the home and renovated the interior to replicate the Hollywood sets of the comedy that starred Florence Henderson and Robert Reed.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the home sold for $3.2 million, which the cable network had listed at $5.5 million earlier this year. HGTV bought the home for $3.5 million at the time and documented the renovations with specials like A Very Brady Renovation and A Very Brady Renovation: Holiday Edition.
Tina Trahan, a self-proclaimed fan of the show and the 1995 parody film, bought the home and said she would use the house located in Studio City for charitable events.

If you've been fantasizing about living in the actual house from The Brady Bunch, as if you had just stepped straight into the sitcom from your living room, you are in luck... as long as you have $5.5 million to spend. The Los Angeles house used for the exterior shots of The Brady Bunch house is back on the market, but with some major changes. Located at 11222 Dilling St., the home was previously up for sale in 2018 when it was purchased by HGTV. The network then invited back the actors who played the Brady Bunch children to help renovate the home's interiors alongside HGTV stars, making the inside look just like the set that was used for the sitcom, complete with the familiar staircase.
The process was documented for the HGTV special A Very Brady Renovation, which drew 28 million viewers when it aired. The special notably brought back cast members Barry Williams...

The Masked Singer season 9's third place finisher was California Roll, who was revealed to be a capella singing group, Pentatonix, and there are several other groups who would also be perfect for the mystery singing competition. Pentatonix is a five-member act, which is the largest in Masked Singer history. They brought their signature harmonies to songs such as "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler, "Creep" by Radiohead, and "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson.
The Masked Singer season 9's California Roll was not the first group to compete. That distinction belongs to Hanson, who competed on The Masked Singer season 5 as the Russian Dolls. In season 7, En Vogue appeared as the Queen Cobras, while The Brady Bunch brothers, Barry Williams (Greg), Christopher Knight (Peter), and Mike Lookinland (Bobby) were revealed to be the Mummies in season 8. The Masked Singer season 9 will debut in February, and some new details have been revealed about what is in store for fans of the mystery celebrity reality singing competition. The Masked Singer season 8 had some of the most incredible talent in the history of the show, and, while the panelists were able to recognize some of the legendary voices, a few contestants left them stumped until their unmaskings. The Masked Singer panel is made up of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger. They are known for putting together the clues with the voices, in order to make guesses that help the audience make informed decisions about who is behind each mask.
While Ken is notorious for his hilarious incorrect guesses, he does occasionally get one of them right. With a record 22 competitors in The Masked Singer season 8, the panelists had many opportunities to make correct guesses. This season had some of the greatest competitors that the show has ever seen, which made it especially fun and exciting.

Amber Riley has made TV history with her win on The Masked Singer season eight.
During Wednesday (30 November) night’s finale of the US version of the celebrity singing series, Riley – best known for her recurring role as Mercedes on creator Ryan Murphy’s series Glee – walked away victorious.
Following the top-secret 12-week singing competition, the 36-year-old actor, who had been disguised as a gold shimmery harp, was the last standing contestant to unmask.
Riley’s newest triumph marks her second major win on a TV reality show competition. In 2013, she and her dance partner, Derek Hough, took home the coveted mirrorball trophy of Dancing with the Stars season 17.
Other celebrities, including Gladys Knight and Margaret Cho, have attempted both competitions, however, Riley is the only one to have ever achieved the double feat.

Exclusive: Fox has a lot to be thankful for this week. After three days of delayed viewing, The Masked Singer‘s Thanksgiving episode drew the network’s highest-rated Thursday original telecast in over six years.
The episode, which was the Season 8 semifinals, scored a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to Live+3 Day Nielsen data. A Thursday program hasn’t scored that well for Fox since the finale of American Idol in April 2016.
It’s also the highest rating a regular Thursday primetime entertainment telecast has received in L+3 across all of cable and broadcast since the series finale of The Big Bang Theory on CBS in 2019.
It’s worth noting that the episode had a lead in from the Dallas Cowboys win over the New York Giants, which drew an NFL viewing record of its own with a massive 42 million people watching that game.

The Masked Singer season 8 contestants, the Lambs, will make history on finale night. The Lambs impressed the panelists, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger, as they made songs their own with their incredible harmonies. In their debut performance on Muppets Night, they sang a rousing rendition of "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry. They then dethroned the reigning Queen of The Masked Singer, Kat Graham (Robo Girl) in the Battle Royale, singing a powerful version of "Call Me" by Blondie.
The following week, the Lambs earned their spot in the semi-finals by defeating Le'Veon Bell (Milkshake) in the '90s Night Battle Royale, singing "What Is Love" by Haddaway after their beautiful rendition of "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette. During the semi-finals, the Lambs sang "Need You Now" by Lady A. They later took on Harp and Snowstorm, singing "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson in the Battle Royale.

Perhaps “The Masked Singer” judges are finally figuring out that this year’s episodic themes frequently reference the week’s new disguised celebrity contestants. Reality TV history is on the line as two celebrities look to become the first entertainers to win both “Dancing With the Stars” and “The Masked Singer.” It’s certainly a possibility for Wayne Brady, a Season 31 finalist on “DWTS” along with his partner Witney Carson. He will have to defeat Charli D’Amelio, Shangela and Gabby Windey to bookend his Golden Mask with a Mirrorball Trophy.

For the first time in the history of The Masked Singer, the series introduced theme nights, and they have revitalized the show in season 8. So far, the popular series has hosted Vegas, TV, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Muppets, '90s, and Hall of Fame Nights. Upcoming theme nights include Comedy Roast, Fright Night, and Thanksgiving.
The Masked Singer theme nights have breathed new life into the show for many reasons. Not only do they influence the song choices, costumes, and sets, but they also provide clues to the contestants' identities. When contestants are chosen to fit certain themes, the panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger have an easier time guessing, and it narrows down the possibilities for the audience as well. The theme nights were a welcome addition to the show in season 8, shaking up the format, and bringing new surprises.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Sunday’s episode of “The Masked Singer”
Joey Lawrence is a name that has come up in many a judges guesses over the course of “The Masked Singer,” even as recently as a few weeks ago. But somehow, it only came to one judge’s mind on Sunday night, and Lawrence himself is thoroughly amused by that.
On Sunday’s episode — airing on a different night because of the World Series — Joey Lawrence was revealed to be the man underneath the Walrus mask, and only Robin Thicke was able to correctly pick out his voice. It’s a bit ironic, considering judge Ken Jeong was wholly convinced earlier this season that the Mummies costume actually contained Lawrence and his brothers, as a trio. Instead, it was a different set of TV brothers: Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, and Barry Williams — the boys of The Brady Bunch.

Why isn’t “The Masked Singer” on tonight? Blame baseball. The Fox network is airing Game 4 of the 2022 World Series between Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros on Wednesday night, so your favorite reality TV show has been preempted. The Masked Singer season 8 '90s Night will introduce two new masks, who will compete against the talented "the Lambs" trio on a special night, Sunday, Nov. 6. On Muppets Night, the Lambs wowed the panel with their rousing rendition of "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry, and their Battle Royale performance of "Call Me" by Blondie, during which they knocked Kat Graham's fan-favorite Robo Girl out of the competition. With their gorgeous three-part harmony, they impressed the panel, who thought they might be Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney Kardashian (Ken Jeong), Haim (Nicole Scherzinger), or The Chicks (Robin Thicke). However, based on their clue package and their recognizable voices, fans believe that they might be Wilson Phillips.

The Masked Singer has revealed that its season 8 '90s Night episode will air on a different day. Fox most likely made this decision because the World Series will air this week on the network, and Game 5 is scheduled to take over The Masked Singer's time slot on Wednesday, Nov. 2, if the game is necessary. This will help to avoid another debacle like the one that delayed Andrew Lloyd Webber Night a week due to a baseball game's rain delay. The Masked Singer fans were outraged when they were informed via social media that the show would air after the game, but then the plans later changed to the show being postponed for an entire week. When fans tuned in the following week for the episode, they found baseball on their televisions again, but The Masked Singer aired after the game was over.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 8, episode 5, of “The Masked Singer,” “Muppets Night,” which aired Oct. 26 on Fox.
Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Talk show host Jerry Springer, as well as actor Kat Graham (“The Vampire Diaries”) were revealed in the latest double masking on “The Masked Singer,” as the show’s Wednesday night episode celebrated “Muppets Night.”
Graham, as Robo Girl, had won the previous week’s episode, but was no match for the threesome of the Lambs. Among this week’s three performances, Springer was first to go, as the Beetle, with the fewest number of votes.
Later, Graham was unmasked as Robo Girl after facing off with the Lambs in an all-female battle royale. The Lambs won, and move on to next week’s episode.
