Jason Statham has become one of the biggest action stars of this time. The 57-year-old English actor and producer got his start as a model in the 1990s. Outside of modeling, he was a performer in a number of music videos throughout his early career in the mid to late 1990s. He made his feature film debut in 1998, when he played a character named Bacon in the Guy Ritchie-directed film Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.
While his career was technically born in the '90s, Statham is a 21st-century action star at heart. After working with Ritchie on Lock, Stock, he teamed up with the director again for the 2000 film Snatch. This action-caper movie made a decent splash at the box office, garnering a haul of over $83 million worldwide. It was in the 2000s that Statham's career really kicked off, transforming him into the high-paid, recognizable actor he is today.

Of all seasons of "True Detective," season 2 remains the most maligned. But I always appreciate an attempt to peer under the carapace of sunny California and see what wretched beasts spring forth, and I think season 2 of Nic Pizzolatto's crime thriller series did as good a job as any of probing the dark side of the City of Angels. The same could be said of the first season, I suppose, though the swampy environs of deep Louisiana seem to lend themselves more to a murky noir mystery than SoCal. Regardless, it was when trying to find other shows with a similar tone to the first and second season of "True Detective" that I came across the "Red Riding" trilogy.

“American Sniper” is expected to blow away Relativity release “Black or White” at the box office this weekend, and the reviews for the Kevin Costner racial drama certainly won’t help change those expectations.
The movie, written and directed by Mike Binder (“The Upside of Anger”) and co-starring Octavia Spencer as a grandmother battling her granddaughter’s white grandfather (Costner) over custody, has a mere 31 percent approval rating from the 52 critics counted so far on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sex Tape, starring Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz as a married couple trying to regain the spark in their sex life, failed to spark much enthusiasm with film’s top critics.
Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) have two kids and two careers that are on the cusp of something big. However, their sex life leaves something to be desired. In an effort to get back to their lusty early days as a couple, the two decide to film themselves having sex. Unfortunately, the sex tape doesn’t remain private for long, as Jay accidentally uploads it to the incomprehensible “cloud” – threatening to expose their romp to friends, family and coworkers.
'Sex Tape' Reviews
Written by Kate Angelo and directed by Jake Kasdan, the R-rated comedy failed to amount to a feature film critics could get behind. The concept, according to reviewers, would have fit better as a sitcom episode.

Greg Mclean.s Wolf Creek 2 opened in 10 cinemas in the Us last Friday, one month after being released on Video-on-Demand platforms.
Distributors such as Magnolia-on-Demand routinely release films in the Ultra-VoD window, figuring the upside is greater than a conventional cinema release followed by VoD and DVD.
Consumers pay a premium price of $US9.99 to watch a film on VoD before it.s released in cinemas. The VoD fee reverts to the regular $5 when the film opens theatrically. Producer Helen Leake is waiting to get the VoD buy-rates from Image Entertainment.
According to Rentrak, the Wolf Creek sequel took just $US1,822 in its first three days at 10 locations. However as Mclean has noted, the primary purpose of the theatrical exposure is to support the premium VoD and regular VoD release.
There was a mixed response from Us critics to the serial killer saga starring John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn and Philippe Klaus.

Frat comedy Neighbors stars Zac Efron and Rose Byrne as new parents who move next door to a frat house, whose president is played by Zac Efron.

Transcendence, the science-fiction artificial intelligence film stars Johnny Depp as a man who uses his own technology to save his consciousness and complete his lifework alongside his wife, played by Rebecca Hall.
In his directorial debut, cinematographer Wally Pfister, a longtime Christopher Nolan collaborator, tackles the frightening possibilities of technology. Transcendence, which has drawn ample comparisons to Spike Jonze’s Her, shows a mad scientist of sorts, who labors to create a sentient and omniscient super-machine that could change the world while existing as such a machine himself.
Critics Review ‘Transcendence’
Transcendence, despite having Depp and Hall onboard, as well as Morgan Freeman and Kate Mara, has failed to win over critics. It’s been criticized for having a lack of focus and a poorer execution of its theme than has been seen in Nolan’s Inception, the Oscar-nominated Her and the Matrix series. The few positive reviews felt that Transcendence transcended its sci-fi genre.

Oculus stars Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites as grown siblings seeking revenge on a cursed mirror that destroyed their lives and countless others before theirs.
Directed by Mike Flanagan, Oculus intertwines the narratives of your Kaylie (Annalise Basso) and Tim (Garrett Ryan) with that of them 10 years later (Gillan and Thwaites). In the interveening time, Kaylie has been obsessing over the night they lost both parents (Katee Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane), while Tim has been locked down in a treatment facility until he no longer believes a mirror made him kill his father. Oculus is a horror genre film that focuses far more on the psyche than the violence of the supernatural.
Critics Review 'Oculus'
In reviewing Oculus, critics largely found Flanagan’s bravely near-bloodless film refreshing. Some even suggested that the film was not only good compared to other horror films, but generally interesting as a piece of cinema.

Veronica Mars, the fan-funded silver screen reboot of the beloved TV series, picks up several years after the events in its last episode, with the titular character embarking on making a name for herself at a high-profile New York City law firm.
The relative peace of her mainstream job is short-lived, as Veronica (Kristen Bell) soon learns that her ex-boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring) is a prime suspect in the murder of his famous girlfriend. In no time, she’s back in Neptune sleuthing her way to the truth. When she’s not on task to exonerate her onetime adversary, Veronica takes some time to reunite with her old pals, and even winds up at her 10-year high school reunion.
Critics agree that Bell enchants once again as Veronica Mars, effortlessly embodying the witty amateur detective she last played in 2007. Most reviews also favorably remark on TV director Rob Thomas’ handling of the big screen project.

300: Rise of an Empire, which returns the graphic novel aesthetics of 2006’s 300, follows the story of the Frank Miller comic about Xerxes – a mortal-turned-god who teams up with Persian navy commander Artemisia to invade Greece.

Brace yourselves for the hard truth: I think it's finally time to give up on Zade.
Based on what went down on Monday (Jan. 27) night's "Hart of Dixie," Joel and Zoe are stronger than ever, and Zoe even helped strengthen Wade and Vivian's fledgling relationship. Plus, both Zoe and Wade helped each other out with their respective shenanigans with zero longing glances or romantic tension. As much as it pains me to speak type these words, I have to call it: Zade's time of death, 9 p.m. Et on Monday, Jan. 27.
How did it even get to this point? I used to be one of the biggest Zade supporters. But "One More Last Chance" finally convinced me to give up hope that Wade and Zoe would find their way back to each other ... because Wade finally gave up hope on them.
You see, while Zoe and Wade were agreeing to...

When it comes to the new Hunger Games movie, there's one thing that critics unanimously agree on: The second movie is way, way better than the first. (They also agree that J.Law is totally awesome, obviously.) Thanks to new director Francis Lawrence, what could otherwise have been a clunky sequel is “leaner, gutsier and smarter,” not to mention “bigger, better and broodier” than its predecessor, and much improved by losing former director Gary Ross’s nauseating penchant for the shaky cam. As our own David Edelstein put it, “Relatively speaking, Catching Fire is terrific. Even nonrelatively, it’s pretty damn good.” Not that you weren't going to go see it anyway.“There’s a new range and vision apparent in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, both a passion and a sense of social scope, that eclipse the franchise’s first film.” — Tom Long, Detroit News “Whereas for some of...

I’m bringing it up because of what I call the “Internet skewing effect.” See, you’re online and you’ve seen a lot of the online calls for charitable donations so you’re thinking “I’m sure the aid efforts are well funded by this point.” But since you’re thinking that, we can count on at least a third of the online audience is thinking the same thing. Add another third to that who simply don’t care to donate and we’re looking at a mere one-third of possible donations being made. Additionally, most of the donations that are coming in are $10 donations which, even in large sums, doesn’t add up to enough to resuscitate a collapsed economy like this. So please, consider donating the minimum $25 (or more...

Raise your hand if you still don't think Zoe and Wade are endgame on "Hart of Dixie." Yeah, that's right, no one is raising their hands because Monday (Nov. 4) night's all-new episode, "How Do You Like Me Now?" proved that not only is Wade the right guy for Zoe, but he also knows it and doesn't seem to sweat the fact that she thinks she belongs with Joel. Wade is patient, and knows she'll end up with him at the end of the day. Joel is just the "Act 2 complication" in the story of Zoe's love life.
So how did Wade step up to the plate to prove both his newfound maturity and his assurance that Zoe will end up with him? After Zoe finds out via Dash's weekly poll that only 13% of Bluebell thinks Joel is the right guy for her, she sets out to make it her new...

Ross Philips is joining the army.
The "Hart of Dixie" fan-favorite just landed a recurring role in Fox's midseason comedy "Enlisted," TVLine reports.
Philips joins the army sitcom as an "entitled and inexperienced 2nd Lieutenant named Schneeberger who thinks very highly of himself." Schneeberger's smug attitude will cause him to butt heads with Geoff Stults' Pete -- and bond with Angelique Cabral's Jill.
So what does Philips' new gig mean for his scene-stealing "Hart of Dixie" character, sweet southern gentleman Tom Long -- is he leaving Bluebell?
Not to worry, "Hart of Dixie" fans: since his "Enlisted" role is not a long stint, and the new sitcom wraps shooting this month, he will continue to appear on The CW's southern drama -- which is good news for Tom's new wife Wanda.
"Enlisted" premieres Friday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 p.m. Et on Fox.

Another day, another crazy Bluebell shenanigan blowing up in someone's face on "Hart of Dixie." So whose relationship paid the price in "Friends in Low Places?"
"Lemonade" and Meatball
After putting on a charade for the whole town, Lemon and Wade's fake relationship to make Zoe jealous and cover up the fact that Lemon's been schtupping Meatball went down in a blaze of glory. Of course, not before some truly hilarious confrontations went down as Monday's "Hart of Dixie" was in top form.
Brick lecturing Wade on not telling him he's been sleeping with his daughter all summer? Only made better by Wade's complete understanding of why Brick was so upset. George's anger over not being told about his ex-fiance and his best friend hooking up? It made total sense to Wade, who could not argue against it. Seriously, poor Wade, having to just take on all this blame.

Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 As The CW's rom-com/drama "Hart of Dixie" returns with new episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Zap2it went to executive producer Leila Gerstein to find out what's up with love and life in idyllic BlueBell, Ala., with displaced Manhattan Dr. Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson), her beau, bartender Wade Kinsella (Wilson Bethel); lawyer George Tucker (Scott Porter); his ex-fiance, Southern belle Lemon Breeland (Jaime King); local-girl-made-good Ruby Jeffries (Golden Brooks); and her now-ex-love, NFL-star-turned-mayor Lavon Hayes (Cress Williams).

Like it or not, people will be talking about Ridley Scott's Prometheus for decades to come. If that's not the sign of a good film, I don't know what is; however, one YouTube user has assembled a video that outlines everything that's wrong with the flick. Agree or disagree? Let us know!
Renowned director Ridley Scott takes fans on a gripping sci-fi adventure that “kicks ass so hard and often that it's impossible not to be thrilled by it” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone). Launching into space to discover the mysterious creators of the human race, the “genuinely epic” (Tom Long, Detroit News) film Prometheus debuts globally on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD October 9 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. An unmatched home entertainment experience, watch the highly-anticipated blockbuster hit in the format in which it was meant to be viewed: stunning 3D high-definition.

Sony has released the 1963 remake of the 1932 James Whale horror film The Old Dark House as a burn-to-order DVD. The difference between the versions is supposedly night and day (I haven't seen the original). The remake is a broad, comedic take on the horror genre that keeps only the basic premise of the story, which was based on a novel by J.B. Priestly. Tom Poston, in a rare leading role, plays Tom Pendrel, an American living in London where he works as a car dealer. His flatmate Caspar Femm (Peter Bull) is a strange man who he hardly ever sees. Nevertheless, Caspar induces Tom to deliver his new car to the family's estate in the British countryside. When Tom arrives, he finds Caspar dead, supposedly from an accidental fall. He's already laid out in his coffin in a parlor. Tom then finds himself among a strange group of other Femms,...

A story of friendship, Robot & Frank is a charming movie with a great cast, so it’s a surprise that Sony has made it available only on DVD, with no Blu-ray.
The film stars Frank Langella (All Good Things) as, well, Frank, an ex-jewel thief who lives alone away from his two grown children (Armeggedon‘s Liv Tyler and Straw Dogs‘ James Marsden). Worried about his father’s wellfare, Marsden gives Frank a robot caretaker. At first, Frank resists his new roommate, but when he discovers the robot has some unique talents, Frank softens and the two begin to be friends. Until the law comes after them…
Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) also stars in the movie, as well as Jeremy Sisto (TV’s Suburgatory) and the voice of Peter Sarsgaard (An Education) as the robot.
Robot & Frank was highly acclaimed by critics.

Personally, I enjoyed it for it's outwardly blockbuster set pieces, and had fun picking through the various themes and ideas the film presented. I've been interested in seeing all that had been cut from the movie, that would supposedly answer many of the questions or blank spots left in the film.
