With the Halloween season finally upon us, that we’ve got a ton of horror and sci-fi titles headed our way via VOD and various digital platforms throughout the month of October. Things kick off with the 1992 horror comedy Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which hits Digital HD for the first time ever on October 2nd. The very next day, Cult of Chucky, Super Dark Times, The Forlorned, and Realive all make their respective debuts, and just a few days later the holiday horror flick Better Watch Out arrives on October 6th.

When it comes to discussing ’60s British horror, most conversations usually begin and end with Hammer’s gothics and their sleazy derivatives. Mind you, it’s not hard to see why—the studio practically revived the genre in the UK during the late ’50s, and competitors would have to be fools to not want to ride their coattails, creating their own bloody (and occasionally brilliant) gothics chock-full of sex and violence. But the ’60s also saw the rise of a different, darker sub-genre—the modern psychological thriller, birthed from Alfred Hitchcock’s visual vocabulary and directors focused less on the supernatural and more on the depths of human cruelty and depravity. The 30th installment of the Australian International Documentary Conference (Aidc) has attracted a variety of international producers as its headline speakers.

They include head of Passion Pictures John Battsek (One Day In September); vice president of the Tribeca Film Institute Amy Hobby (What Happened, Miss Simone?) and Ezra Edelman, director and producer of O.J.: Made In America.

Edelman and Battsek will deliver the opening session about using sports documentary as a way to explore power and racial discrimination. Hobby will appear in conversation about the experiences of documentary filmmakers on the festival and awards circuit.

All three will also participate as mentors in the Access@Aidc mentorship program..

Unfortunately for a Berkshire-based fancy dress retailer, Disney's force was too strong in a battle for starwars.co.uk and six other Star Wars-related domain names.

Jokers' Masquerade has used the addresses to direct users to its Star Wars fancy dress section for over a decade, but now .uk domain name registry firm Nominet has ruled that they must hand the domains over to Disney.

The other domains Disney will gain control of are starwars.uk, star-wars.uk, star-wars.co.uk, starwarsco.uk, starwarsco.co.uk and star-warsco.co.uk.

Mark Lewis, chief executive of Jokers' Masquerade's parent company Abscissa told BBC News: "If the new Star Wars films by Disney were not being released, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

"They wanted the starwars.uk domain, they haven't [got it], and in essence they've thrown their teddies out of the pram. That's how we feel. Are we disappointed? Yes.

James Wan has created some of the best horror movies of the last 10 years. The first full trailer for Demonic was released today, and it leans pretty heavy on Wan's name as writer and producer. This is the second film from director Will Canon, who is not mentioned in the trailer. The synopsis is pretty simple: "A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts." With a "story by" credit from Wan, odds are it's going to be a well-plotted script. The movie has a bit of a found footage vibe without relying on it to tell the story. My favorite part of the trailer - aside from the floating blood - is the infrared camera.

The last we heard of Demonic - based on a story created by James Wan – came back in July of last year, when a release date for the horror flick was pencilled in for December 2014. In case you hadn’t noticed, December came and went with no sign of the paranormal caper. Were Dimension Films worried it would go unnoticed amid the wave of awards contenders cluttering up the festive season? It hardly seems like a concern for a genre effort like this, but whatever the reason, its first trailer has been unveiled in anticipation of a new release date.

Filmgoers can knock all they want, but they’ll have to wait an undetermined length of time before theaters answer the door and let them into two upcoming haunted house movies from The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. Iffr and Cph:dox, the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, combine forces at Iffr on the Art:Film initiative, which connects visual art to cinema. The three Art:Film projects presented at CineMart 2014 are Fierté nationale by Sven Augustijnen, Tarda Primavera by Michael Frammartino, and Invention by Mark Lewis.

The CineMart projects are eligible for two prizes: the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award (€30,000 for a European co-production) and the the Arte France Cinéma Award (€5,000).

In my humble opinion, I think James Wan is the master of horror when it comes to movies. They guy knows how to make them right and just scare the shit out of audiences. He has produced a new film that was made under the title House of Horror, it was then changed to Untitled James Wan Thriller, and now according to Desde Hollywood the film is now being called Demonic, and that title has been confirmed by Styd.

The movie was directed by Will Canon from a script written by Max La Bella, and here's the synopsis:

We’ve been talking about James Wan’s House of Horror since early 2011, but the movie has finished filming and is now titled Demonic. Produced by James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge earlier this year. The script was written by Max La Bella and is based on an original idea from James Wan:

Considering its title, it may be hard to accept that Manuel Martin Cuenca’s Cannibal was one of the most subtle and endearing features at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The first twenty minutes are a stunning Noir-esque example of raw grotesque violence in coordination with stunning visuals, subtle but powerful. These scenes, like all scenes of macabre nature in the film, are done in such tasteful ways they remove the surface layer of cheap shock and cut straight to the heart of an often sickening but sad affair. After this opening the film constantly battles with its own particular style, wanting to maintain its tame direction whilst maximising the brutality of its core themes.

When we last checked in on Santa Barbara-based metal giants DevilDriver, they were in the depths of a haunted forest set for the gothic, werewolf-filled music video “Dead to Rights” (check out our set visit footage here), a track from their highly successful album Beast. That record ranked among the band's strongest and most punishing efforts, and seemed a tough act to follow... but nevertheless, the moment of truth has arrived this week with their sixth full-length studio release Winter Kills – the band's first after departing long-time label Roadrunner and signing with Napalm Records. Thankfully, this unit seldom disappoints, and with this release they've somehow managed to crank the creative knob even higher. Lawyers representing Angelina Jolie's sometimes stuntwoman are part of first case for alleged hacking in the Us courts

Lawyers working for a Hollywood stuntwoman allegedly hacked by News Corp journalists said Tuesday they are working with more potential victims.

At a press conference in New York, Norman Siegel, lawyer for Eunice Huthart, Angelina Jolie's sometime stunt double, said they had spoken to a number of people who claim they have been hacked by journalists working for News Corp.

He refused to give details but added: "There are a bunch of people, the majority from England but some from here, who want to bring claims."

Siegel is part of a team bringing the first case for alleged hacking in the Us courts. He is working with Mark Lewis, the British lawyer who has represented nearly 100 clients, including the family of Milly Dowler, the kidnapped 13-year-old whose voicemail is said...

Dimension Films is getting in business with James Wan (Saw, Insidious), starting a new line of films which carries the James Wan Presents title tag.

Golden Globe nominated Mario Bello (A History of Violence, The Cooler) is set to star in the first of these films, which is untitled as of now. Although Wan will produce the film based on an original idea of his, directing duties will go to Will Canon (Brotherhood) and scriptwriting to Max La Bella.
