Jane Fonda is speaking out about the passing of Donald Sutherland, her co-star from the Alan J. Pakula crime drama Klute.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Fonda recalled how much she enjoyed working with Sutherland and the many adventures they ended up taking together.
“I am stunned to hear that Donald Sutherland has died,” she wrote. “He was my fascinating co-star in Klute and we loved working together. In this photo we are on the Klute set with director Alan Pakula. Donald was a brilliant actor and a complex man who shared quite a few adventures with me, such as the Fta Show, an anti-Vietnam war tour that performed for 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors, and marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines, and Japan in 1971. I am heartbroken.”
In Klute, Sutherland played opposite Fonda as New York gumshoe John Klute, who is hired to find a chemical company executive who has disappeared.

Warning: contains spoilers for Endeavour Series 9 Episode 1 ‘Prelude’.
It’s May 1972, six months after Morse finally accepted that he needed to seek help with his drink problem. He’s back at Castle Gate after taking the cure – sober, dapper and in control… until his offer to escort Miss Thursday to the next wedding in her diary meets the news that Joan’s next wedding will be her own. Our detective had spent the last series so lost in booze that he’d failed to detect Joan’s emerging romance with Jim Strange. Now, he faces being the best man at a ceremony where he may once have hoped to be the groom.
Coming in second was revealed as the – somewhat unsatisfactory – motive for the episode’s main murder: an orchestra leader poisoned by the best friend who’d lived in her shadow since they were teenagers. Whether it was the...

Exclusive: Check your fear of heights at the door for this one. Discovery+ has set a June 5 premiere date for Pushing the Line, a docuseries about the not-for-everyone sport of highlining. Jersey Shore’s SallyAnn Salsano is executive producing via her 495 Productions. Watch a clip above.
For the uninitiated, highlining is a subset of slacklining that involves the counterintuitive act of walking on a line hundreds of feet above the ground on a 1-inch rope that’s thinner than your belt. It takes athleticism, balance and stamina to walk a long line — but it takes mental toughness even to attempt it.
The series follows some of the top highliners and the up-and-comers of the sport, who live together and push one another to take on the craziest places to set lines and break records. Pushing the Line looks at what motivates these fear-be-damned athletes to risk it all every day.

Stars: Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland, Charles Cioffi, Roy Scheider, Robert Milli | Written by Andy Lewis, Dave Lewis | Directed by Alan J. Pakula
Released in 1971, Alan J. Pakula’s sophomore feature Klute is regarded as the first of his unofficial Paranoia Trilogy, which would go on to include The Parallax View and All the President’s Men. However, Klute is far less overtly political – and far more intimate – than those later pictures.
Donald Sutherland plays the titular John Klute, a private investigator who is employed to look into the disappearance of a man named Tom (Robert Milli). Apparently, shortly before his death, Tom was sending filthy letters to a New York call girl named Bree (Jane Fonda). So, John heads to NYC to interview Bree. Once there, a stuttering, sad and sensual relationship begins.

For Sunday’s Oscars 2019 ceremony, producers had a difficult decision of which film industry people would make the cut and who would be left out of the “In Memoriam.” For the segment, Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic performed music by Oscar winner John Williams.

While Academy Awards producers have strived for a much shorter ceremony this year, the annual “In Memoriam” segment will definitely remain. In fact this moment on Sunday’s 2019 event should be extra classy since Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic will be performing as part of the tribute.
Over 100 Academy members or film industry veterans died in the past 12 months. But which ones will be featured in the short segment? There are generally outcries each year from family members upset about people being left out. Visit our own Gold Derby memoriam galleries for the year of 2018 and the newly-started gallery for 2019.
Virtually certain to be part of the montage are Oscar-winning directors Bernardo Bertolucci and Milos Forman, Oscar-nominated actors Carol Channing, Albert Finney and Burt Reynolds, director and actress Penny Marshall, executive producer and entertainment icon Stan Lee and many more.

NBC News is facing renewed heat after a report by The Hollywood Reporter contended that its MSNBC network spike a #MeToo story about a powerful entertainment industry figure months after scuttling a similar exposé about Harvey Weinstein.
The piece, by veteran journalist Kim Masters, detailed the story of Sil Lai Abrams, who said she was raped by music mogul Russell Simmons in 1994 and was sexually assaulted by “Extra” host A.J. Calloway in 2006. The accusations were being investigated by MSNBC anchor Joy Reid, who, in a series of texts to Abrams, accused her own network of “‘slow walking’ the story with ‘stupid requests,'” THR reported.
The story was ostensibly killed, according to Abrams, who told THR Reid said the network “was no longer responding to her queries as to when the segment might air.”

Jerry Lewis has long been known as one of the toughest interview subjects in the industry, and that hasn’t changed a bit now that he’s 90. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter dispatched poor Andy Lewis (no relation, presumably) to talk to Lewis at his Las Vegas home as a part of a series about nonagenarians who are still active in show business. The legendary comedian and director was taking a few days off from touring and agreed to a photo shoot and a brief one-on-one. Sounds harmless enough.
But the reporter said he “had a bad feeling about how the conversation with Jerry Lewis was going to go.” Those instincts proved dead-on. The comic was visibly impatient and angry that day, answering most of the facile queries with terse, monosyllabic answers. The Hollywood Reporter has dubbed the resulting interview “7 Painfully Awkward Minutes With Jerry Lewis.” In its own ...

Leonardo DiCaprio was recently seen as a tyrannical slave owner, he'll next be seen as a coked out Wall Street trader and two years ago he played J. Edgar Hoover. Now he has his eyes set on the Presidency as his Appian Way production company is eying an adaptation of the just-released biography "Wilson" by A. Scott Berg, telling the story of our 28th president. There is no deal yet in place, but DiCaprio would star and Warner Bros. would distribute should things work out. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit and Andy Lewis seem to be looking at it and making comparison's to Steven Spielberg's Lincoln saying Berg's book "offers up a heroic, larger-than-life Wilson" along with "several well-narrated dramatic moments that could serve as the basis for a film." Here's a little trivia for you, at one point Martin Scorsese was attached to direct DiCaprio...

When THR contacted James Patterson about being on its inaugural list of the 25 most powerful authors in Hollywood, he scoffed. "Power list? More like powerless list."
But while conventional wisdom puts writers far down the totem pole, the truth is that from "The Hunger Games" to the upcoming "The Hobbit," books remain the most durable source of content for films and TV.
THR selected those living authors who have been most successful in shepherding their books from page to screen, balancing success in publishing (total output, sales, best-sellers) and in Hollywood (completed adaptations, projects in development, screenwriting and producing credits) while accounting for cultural influence. More power to them.
