He survived both Death Star trench runs and has been a popular character since his first appearance in A New Hope, becoming a staple in the rest of the original trilogy. However, Wedge Antilles has only had one movie appearance since then, when the character made a brief cameo in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
The character's arc could lend itself to appearing in future Star Wars projects, particularly the Mandoverse story. After the battle of Jakku, Wedge accepted a position as a new flight instructor in the Hosnian Prime system.
This all occurs before the first episode of The Mandalorian, which kicks off the Mandoverse story. In The Mandalorian, several Rebel pilots have appeared, and it would be logical for Wedge to step away from his instructing duties on a mission to help fight with the New Republic against the remaining Imperial remnant.

Actor Ewan McGregor is best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels. McGregor was a fresh commodity when he debuted in the franchise and the role made him a household name. However, one fellow Star Wars alum tried convincing McGregor to stay away from the space opera franchise.

During an interview, McGregor spoke about his uncle, actor Denis Lawson, who played the role of Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy. At the same time, McGregor admitted that his uncle tried warning him about the perils of working in the franchise, which he admitted only pushed him to accept the role. Here is what McGregor had to say about Lawson’s advice.

Warning: contains spoilers for Inside No. 9 “Plodding On”.
Look carefully at the end credits for Inside No. 9 finale “Plodding On” and in among the names of the many, many previous guest stars who came back to send the anthology show on its way is one puzzling entry. Between Denis Lawson from “A Quiet Night In” and Rula Lenska from “The Devil of Christmas” is the name: Europa Lepus. You won’t find them on IMDb because Europa Lepus is not an actor but a form of Latin for the European Hare. That’s right, not content with hiding a statue of a hare inside every one of its 55 episodes, Inside No. 9 also hid a hare in its finale end credits.
That level of commitment to Easter eggs went even further for the finale. Visit the cryptic crossword published by The Guardian newspaper on the day the finale...

The Star Wars franchise is recognized as one of the most iconic and culturally significant film series ever produced. It has not only achieved mainstream success but has also attained a unique and unparalleled status in the realm of media. With that said, it appears Ewan McGregor was advised not to take up his iconic role by another Star Wars star.

As much as "Star Wars" might seem like a clear net-positive for any actor's career, history has shown that it's not always as good as it sounds. Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin in the first movie, was famously bullied out of acting for his supposedly bad performance. Natalie Portman also struggled to find work after the prequels because her performance as Padme was considered pretty wooden too. Basically everyone involved in these movies is indeed a perfectly fine actor; the problem was just that George Lucas is bad at directing his actors, as shown by how even Christopher Lee and Samuel L. Jackson seemed to performing below their abilites.
Even in the agreed-upon good movies in the franchise, the actors involved could sometimes struggle to find meaty roles later on. Mark Hamill became a much-celebrated voice actor after the original trilogy, while Carrie Fisher carved out a career for...

Ewan McGregor was “very reluctant” to play Obi Wan-Kenobi in “Star Wars,” he admitted.
“It wasn’t a done deal for me. I didn’t think it was at all who I was. I believed, at that point, I was a Danny Boyle actor. ‘The Beach’ was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t flippant. I did ask a lot of people for advice.”
“I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.”
He enjoyed making ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,” though.
“I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney.”

When Lucasfilm asked legendary Aardman (“Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”) to participate in “Volume 2” of the “Star Wars: Visions” animated anthology (currently streaming on Disney+), the Bristol stop-motion studio came through with the amusing day at the races comedy “I Am Your Mother.” For director Magdalena Osinska (“Share the Orange” Alzheimer’s U.K. Research campaign), it was an opportunity to not only introduce Aardman wit and handmade prowess to the “Star Wars” universe but to emphasize girl power and maternal pride as well.

Close your eyes and meditate on the Force for a moment. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about "Star Wars"? For me, it's the opening shot of "A New Hope" when the Tantive IV is being stalked by Darth Vader's Star Destroyer, the Devastator. The next image is, without a doubt, Ben Solo igniting Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber to give to Luke in his hut on Tatooine. By leaps and bounds, the lightsaber has become the most recognizable piece of "Star Wars" lore.
Used sparingly throughout the original trilogy, the Jedi's weapon was only unsheathed in a handful of key moments, allowing for maximum impact when Luke, Obi-Wan or Vader ignited their blade. As the Skywalker saga continued into the prequels, the lightsaber was used one too many times and the magic of seeing it on screen was severely diminished. By choosing to not...

Star Wars Celebration 2023 was full of surprises. Trailers, news, and first looks were unveiled for lucky fans of a galaxy far, far away in London, England. But there was arguably no cooler reveal than the premiere of an episode of the upcoming "Star Wars: Visions Volume 2" made by animation studio Aardman.
The short, titled "I Am Your Mother," is just what you'd expect from an Aardman "Star Wars" project. It is very cute and full of heart, but also extremely funny and imaginative, with every scene packed to the rim with Easter eggs that feel organic, as if we're watching actual people living in this universe with countless tales of heroes.
Stop-motion animation has always been a part of "Star Wars." It is as integral to this franchise as VFX or John Williams' music, with Phil Tippett's work on the At-at and the Tauntauns helping make that film timeless and well-crafted.

Part of the joy of Star Wars: Visions is, you never know quite what you’re going to get when you load up an episode. Lucasfilm’s anthology series lets animation houses present their own unique spin on the galaxy far, far away – taking any characters, any settings, any imagery from George Lucas’ sprawling space opera and doing whatever feels right or interesting with them, canon be damned. Think of it like a remix compilation, with wildly creative spins on familiar material from fascinatingly varied voices. Where Volume 1 of Visions was comprised solely of Japanese anime studios, Volume 2 is going worldwide – including a contribution from British stop-motion legends Aardman.
While there’s no Wallace and Gromit or Feathers McGraw here, Aardman’s short ‘I Am Your Mother’ (see what they did there?) is set in the aftermath of the original trilogy, and tells the story of wannabe-pilot Twi’lek tween...

Out of all the studios announced to be working on Volume 2 of the animated anthology series, "Star Wars: Visions," it's Aardman Animation's involvement that's got me the most intrigued. The "Wallace & Gromit," "Shaun the Sheep," and "Chicken Run" stop-motion powerhouse's various idiosyncratic settings and toothy-mouthed characters aren't as far removed from the galaxy far, far away as you might imagine, either.
Speaking during the "Visions" panels at "Star Wars" Celebration 2023 in London, England (where members of the /Film crew are currently on the ground), the team behind Aardman's "Visions" short, title "I Am Your Mother," noted that stop-motion has a long history in "Star Wars." Indeed, the Industrial Light & Magic visual effects legend Phil Tippett famously used never-before-seen VFX to make the stop-motion tauntauns and At-ATs more convincing for the Hoth sequences in "The Empire Strikes Back." Not only the Twelfth Doctor, but also an Oscar-winnning writer-director for his short film Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life, Peter Capaldi’s career spans almost four decades of impressive, inventive performances. Capaldi first truly captured the nation’s heart when he became sweary spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It in 2005, a role that could only be eclipsed for some by his stint in the Tardis.
After three glorious years of his Doctor, a terrific turn in The Personal History of David Copperfield, and popping up in the comic book world of The Suicide Squad, Capaldi’s latest venture – thriller The Devil’s Hour – is out now on Prime Video and reminding us what makes him so captivating on screen. Let’s revisit some of Peter Capaldi’s finest performances.

Ewan McGregor almost passed on the “Star Wars” prequels due to his “grunge” persona in British indie cinema.
During the 1990s, after McGregor’s success with Danny Boyle’s “Trainspotting” in 1996, McGregor second-guessed signing on to “Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace.” McGregor portrayed the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 1999 trilogy, a role which he later reprised for the Disney+ series that premiered earlier this year.
“I really had to think about it,” McGregor said during the “Smartless” podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. “Because it came right after that ‘Trainspotting’ period, and by that time I was so full of myself.”
McGregor joked, “I was like, ‘I am Danny Boyle’s actor. I am fucking urban grunge. I am the Oasis of the British movie industry,’ and then when ‘Star Wars’ came around, I felt, ‘I don’t know if I want to do this.

Do character cameos make the "Star Wars" universe feel more connected, or are they mostly just fan-service with little intrinsic narrative value? Well, as a guy who's definitely for real named Ben would tell you, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." It depends, in other words, on the context and what the cameo brings to the table.
For example, when Denis Lawson shows up for a few seconds as Wedge Antilles in "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," it's really just an Easter egg. On the other hand, when Max Rebo (Rip?) appears in "The Book of Boba Fett," it both acts as an...

Upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to serve as the live-action bridge between the franchise’s 1999-2005 trilogy of prequel films and the Original Trilogy. Yet, for star Ewan McGregor, who reprises his legacy role from those films, a surreal confluence has been created over the presence of a certain monochromatic army: stormtroopers. Indeed, while he’s spent his share of screen time with clone troopers, there’s something about being around the Empire’s armored legion that has McGregor feeling childlike.

Fan-favorite Original Trilogy hero Wedge Antilles (played by Denis Lawson) has been in the fight since 1977. The quintessential Star Wars pilot, Wedge faced two Death Stars and has a long career as a Rebel leader and a New Republic defender in both Disney canon and the old Legends continuity.
Now, decades after his original adventures in the Original Trilogy, Wedge is jumping back into the cockpit for Motive Studios and Electronic Arts’ Star Wars: Squadrons. In the upcoming video game, Wedge will once again fight for the New Republic, alongside Rebels character Hera Syndulla, presumably as part of the game’s single-player story campaign.

Star Wars: Squadrons might not be what every fan of the franchise has been hoping to see EA announce as its next adventure set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, but misguided petitions aside, early reactions to the gorgeous-looking action title have been universally positive. Those that tuned in to watch yesterday’s reveal have been voicing their excitement for its release ever since over on social media, and for good reason.
Besides teasing a level of visual fidelity the likes of which has never been seen before in a Star Wars title, fans have subsequently spotted a number of cameos in Squadrons‘ debut trailer from characters across various eras. We have absolutely no doubt that more familiar faces will make themselves known as we get closer to release day, but the two that have so far been confirmed are Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels and Wedge Antilles, the...

Wedge Antilles, otherwise known as Tie SS-2-5 during his time at Skystrike Academy, is a true icon of the Rebel Alliance. So you can imagine our excitement when we glimpsed Denis Lawson’s X-wing pilot back behind the joystick in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Beginning with the aptly named That Sinking Feeling in 1979, the Scottish filmmaker Bill Forsyth has produced comedies whose bittersweet humor barely concealed the hurt. “Grin and bear it” was the director’s credo and the marquees tipped his hand – Being Human, Comfort and Joy – though That Sinking Feeling said it all.
Local Hero boasts Forsyth’s most head-scratching title but there’s no mistaking the predicament of the movie’s nominal leading man played by Peter Riegert. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader is Factor 5's masterpiece. Let's take a look back!

Although ultimately viewed as a financial low-point for Nintendo, the GameCube era gave us some of the best games ever made: Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Super Smash Bros. One of its best, a launch title that wasn't an in-house Nintendo project at all, was Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, a game that is not only at the top of the GameCube list, but is also one of the greatest Star Wars games and space combat games ever made. Edinburgh: Scottish actor gives talk about 22-year acting career including new role as Jesus in Last Days In The Desert.
Ewan McGregor revealed to an audience at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff) on Sunday that he would be willing to reprise the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi to tell the story of Stars Wars between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back should Disney ever wish to do so.
The comments came during an on-stage interview in which the Scottish star looked back over the highlights of his career thus far and chose his words carefully on the subject of the forthcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
The actor seemed not to be the most rabid of fanboys and declared: “I’m not a fanatical person.”
Still, he said he was impressed by the trailer - “It looks like [Jj Abrams] he absolutely nailed it” - except for the lightsaber’s updated design.

Lord Lucan Mystery. Acorn Rlj Entertainment
Kieran Kinsella
Fans of British TV have an enduring fascination with murder mysteries. The most intriguing cases are often based on real events and the brutal murder of Sandra Rivett certainly falls into that category. The identity of the victim herself is often over shadowed by the notoriety surrounding her alleged killer: Lord Lucan. He was never charged with the crime but she was the nanny of his estranged family and was found dead on the very same day that Lucan vanished. The case has never been solved and Lucan’s whereabouts have remained a mystery for the last 40 years. Rumors abound that he continues to evade capture thanks to the aiding and abetting of his high society friends. That said, 81 years on since his birth, the sands of time may catch up with him even if he continues to evade the long arm of the law.

New Tricks is to end after its upcoming 12th series.
The BBC is bringing the long-running crime drama to an end "to make room for new series", Broadcast reports.
In a joint statement, BBC One controller Charlotte Moore and BBC drama controller Ben Stephenson said: "We are incredibly proud of New Tricks and would like to thank Roy Mitchell the brilliant creator, Wall to Wall and Headstrong, and all the cast and teams involved across the 12 series.
"However, on BBC One, it's important to make room for new series and continue to increase the range of drama on the channel, so it won't be returning after the next series airs this summer."
Headstrong Pictures - who are producing the final series - added: "For eleven series, New Tricks has been one of the most enduringly popular dramas on television, and Wall to Wall and Headstrong Pictures are hugely proud of the success of the show.

BBC New Tricks
The popular BBC crime drama New Tricks is set to return for an eleventh season this Fall. At the end of the last season, Tamzin Outhwaite (Eastenders) and Nicholas Lyndhurst (Only Fools and Horses) joined the ensemble cast and they’ll be back for the new season alongside regulars such as Dennis Waterman (Minder) and Denis Lawson. Outhwaite and Lyndhurst will attempt to fill the void left by the departures of Amanda Redman and James Bolam.
With regard to the new arrivals Producer, Tom Mullens, said: “There’s definitely a new dynamic within the team, the format is still the same with three unruly boys running rings around their boss. Tamzin’s character brings something slightly different to the dynamic and so do the guys and there are different relationships to explore between them all.”

By 2009, the new version of Doctor Who had become not only an integral part of Saturday night television and a huge Christmas ratings winner but also an international success all over again. David Tennant, who had played the Time Lord since 2005 and was, arguably, more popular than any Doctor since the mighty Tom Baker hung up his scarf in 1981, had announced his resignation from the part he loved in October 2008. Many wondered how the incoming showrunner, Steven Moffat, would follow Tennant and what kind of show would emerge.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is set to feature a bunch of familiar faces from the original trilogy, including Luke (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher), Han (Harrison Ford), R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), C-3Po (Anthony Daniels), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). But one actor who played a supporting character in the series claims he was asked to join the new trilogy -- and turned down the part because he was bored by the concept.
Denis Lawson, who played X-Wing pilot and Rebel leader Wedge Antilles in "Star Wars: A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi," revealed in a new interview that filmmakers did indeed reach out to him about reprising his role for "Episode VII," but he wasn't interested.
"I'm not going to do that," Lawson told the U.K.'s The Courier when the subject of "Star Wars" was broached. "They asked me but it just would have bored me.

Star Wars actor Denis Lawson has revealed that he turned down an appearance in Episode VII.
The actor - who played X-Wing fighter pilot Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy - declined an offer to reprise his role in Jj Abrams's hotly anticipated sequel.
"I'm not going to do that," Lawson told The Courier. "They asked me but it just would have bored me."
Lawson - who is uncle to prequel trilogy star Ewan McGregor - has previously said he would only be interested in a role that was larger than his original appearances.
The actor's career has mainly focused on television, including stints on Holby City and Parade's End.
Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker are confirmed to be returning to Disney's sci-fi franchise, along with several newcomers including Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Andy Serkis.

Denis Lawson has had a long career as an actor, but he's probably best known to most as Wedge Antilles, a Rebel pilot that appeared in all three of George Lucas' original Star Wars films. Of course, it isn't as if Wedge is a character often discussed, which makes writing about him a little odd, especially dedicating an entire headline to his character whom we've now learned won't return to the play the character in Star Wars: Episode VII. So why write about himc Well... Lawson was actually approached to reprise Wedge once again in the new film to be directed by J.J. Abrams though he tells The Courier, "I'm not going to do that... They asked me but it just would have bored me." Personally, I find that interesting. There are no other reasons given for why he passed, but I have to assume it wasn't a large...

Wedge Antilles is perhaps one of the most beloved minor characters in the original “Star Wars” universe. The rebel pilot and friend of Luke Skywalker appeared in all three of the original George Lucas films, survived the original successful attack on the Death Star, the defense of the Rebel base on Hoth, and along with Lando Calrissian piloting the Millennium Falcon, was one of the lead pilots instrumental in taking down the Death Star for a third time in “Return Of The Jedi.” Presumably he got promoted and was one of the Generals later on once peace was restored to the galaxy. So will he appear in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII”? Nope, and that’s by choice. Evidently someone in the 'Episode 7' camp reached out and asked actor Dennis Lawson, who played Wedge in the series, if he’d like to return/show up in the new series.

Denis Lawson, who played Rebel Alliance pilot Wedge Antilles in all three of the original films, has revealed that he will not be returning for J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII".
The character has earned a cult following over the years, and in fact Abrams offered Lawson a part. However, the actor turned down the offer. He explained to The Courier:

Lawson, who reprised the role in a 2001 "Star Wars" video game, had previously stated he would only return for 'Episode VII' if he was offered a substantially bigger role than his part in the first three films.

The perils of creating artificial intelligence have long been a sci-fi preoccupation, and The Machine brings little new to the subject save for an ominously ambiguous conclusion about the consequences of making computers more advanced than their human masters.
In a future marked by a cold war between China and the West, "genius" scientist Vincent (Toby Stephens) searches for a way to cure his brain-damaged daughter via his government research injecting implants into injured soldiers.
