Apple TV+'s divisive period dramedy series Palm Royale has been renewed for a second season, and there are already a ton of exciting updates concerning season 2. Created for TV by Abe Sylvia (from the book Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel), the series concerns wannabe socialite Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she tries to infiltrate the complicated social scene of 1960s Palm Beach, Florida. With its lavish costuming and set design, Palm Royale captured the stunning and over-the-top look of its period, while also offering a pointed critique of class and status in the United States.
Despite Palm Royale's stellar cast and heady ideas, the show was greeted with mixed reviews, and was hardly the critical darling that it was seemingly shaping up to be. Nevertheless, the sheer star power and intrigue of the show was enough to get plenty of people tuning in as it snagged 11 Emmy nominations in the process,...

The hit NBC sitcom, Lopez Vs Lopez, combines family comedy vibes with a touch of dramatic gravitas thanks to themes of addiction and recovery that permeate every episode. George Lopez stars as an alcoholic who is forced to move in with his estranged daughter and her fiancee, Quinten (Matt Shively), with the ensuing hijinks making for quality sitcom entertainment with an extra dose of pathos and serious moments for a somewhat more mature viewing experience.
Season 1 saw the introduction of Quinten's father, Sam, played by Stephen Tobolowsky, but for Season 3's "Lopez Vs In-Laws," Sam has backup in the form of his wife, Ruthie, played by comedy legend Vicki Lawrence. Best known for her role as Thelma Harper in the 1980s sitcom, Mama's Family, Lawrence originated that role as part of her tenure on the classic sketch comedy variety program, The Carol Burnett Show.

Apple's comedy series Palm Royale will reunite Carol Burnett with legendary comedian and her former The Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family co-star, Vicki Lawrence, who has been cast in an undisclosed role. The two met on The Carol Burnette Show more than half a century ago and have since enjoyed a long friendship. Burnett, who plays Norma, one of the main characters in the period drama, recently spoke up about wanting Lawrence to be on the show, and asked the showrunner if they could find a role that the actor could sink her teeth into.
While promoting Lopez v Lopez, Lawrence told Screen Rant's Zak Wojnar that Burnett lived up to her words and managed to bring her over to Palm Royale. The star teased that she "will be on season two," and she has "shot a few scenes." Though none of them was with Burnett so far,...

Lopez Vs Lopez, the hit NBC sitcom starring George Lopez, is currently airing its third season. The show combines classic family sitcom trappings with some genuinely heavy subject matter, as the main character is an erstwhile deadbeat dad struggling with his alcoholism while trying to reconnect with his daughter, played by Lopez's real-life progeny, Mayan Lopez, as well as his future son-in-law, Quinten, portrayed by Matt Shively.
Quinten's father, Sam, made his debut in season 1 of the series, played by Stephen Tobolowsky in the episode, "Lopez Vs Van Bryan." Sam initially seems like a perfect father-in-law, particularly with regard to his genuine love and appreciation for his son's beau. However, after getting a little inebriated, Sam reveals an unflattering resentment towards his son for not being a business-savvy, money-minding patriarch. Ultimately, Sam reconciles with his son and admits the error of his ways. Audiences will get to find out if...

The F-word is very important to Carol Burnett.
That is, at 91 years old, with 25 Emmy nominations, two Peabodys and a Presidential Medal of Freedom, she’s only looking for one thing when it comes to work: fun.
“It’s my F-word. If it looks like it’s going to be fun, I want to do it,” she says.
Burnett has spent more than seven decades making people laugh. One of the best physical comedians of all time, she did it again as Norma Dellacorte in Apple TV+’s 2024 comedy “Palm Royale,” about a social climber (Kristen Wiig) desperate for her aunt-by-marriage’s inheritance. Burnett plays the conniving aunt.
In the first three episodes, Burnett didn’t even have lines, since her character was in a coma. However, being immobile couldn’t hold her back from stealing every scene.
It seems nothing could. In 1958, she landed her first gig, as a supporting comedian,...

Netflix has released the official trailer for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which will be available on the streaming service on September 19, 2024, at midnight Pt.
Following the massive success of Dahmer, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series returns on Netflix with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
The new series chronicles the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez.
While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Jeopardy! fans recently flew off the handle at recent players on the show for being “too young” to catch an obvious answer. So, what happened with this situation that had viewers so livid?
Jeopardy! Contestants Are Typically The Smartest Around
When most viewers think of Jeopardy! as a competition game show, the first thing that often comes to mind is brain power. While most competition shows on the air today rely on physical strength and endurance, this show is one of the few out there that rewards someone for being smart.
Just by watching the show as a fan, viewers can learn a lot. Sometimes it may be obscure facts that might never see the light of day in someone’s everyday life. However, other times, they may learn something that could come in handy someday. At the very least, the show does entertain.

Some of the longest-running game shows of all time have managed to stay entertaining due to their unique formats or charismatic hosts. Shows like Jeopardy! and Family Feud have successfully transitioned to new hosts without losing their popularity. The longest-running game show of all time had an impressive run spanning several decades on air.
The longest-running game shows of all time have one important thing in common. Not only do they offer contestants a chance to win great prizes, with the audience living vicariously through them, but they also remain entertaining for a variety of reasons. This comes from either the format of the shows or the hosts who run the show. Jeopardy! is a great example of a show that offers challenging questions that keep viewers glued to their TVs, but the charisma of former host Alex Trebek added to the appeal, which is why it has lasted for over 50 years.

Martin Mull, who played Colonel Mustard in Clue, Roseanne’s boss Leon Carp in the ABC comedy Roseanne and starred on Norman Lear’s Fernwood 2 Nite, died Thursday at his home. He was 80.
The news was revealed by his daughter Maggie Mull, an exec producer on Family Guy.
“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale” is packed heels to highlights with legendary actresses, but Carol Burnett wants to add at least one more when they’re back for Season 2.
In an exclusive interview ahead of the 2024 IndieWire Honors — which took place on June 6 at Citizen News in Hollywood and saw the beloved comedienne winning the Vanguard Award for a lifetime of achievements in television — Burnett revealed that her old scene partner Vicki Lawrence not only watched but “loved” creator Abe Sylvia’s sparkling ‘60s satire about well-to-do Palm Beach.
“I wish they could find something for [Vicki] on the show,” said Burnett, who guest starred as the larger-than-life Norma Dellacorte in “Palm Royale” Season 1. “I’m going to ask Abe if there’s a part that might come up because that would be fun to have Vicki on. That would really be something. And not just a mercy booking. That’s not what I mean.

Oscar winner Penélope Cruz was the subject of a BAFTA Life In Pictures event in London last night.
In a wide-ranging session, the Spanish actress discussed her frequent collaborations with director Pedro Almodóvar, her inspirations and advice for aspiring actors.
The Volver and Vicky Cristina Barcelona actress was also passionate in her support for the theatrical experience, despite acknowledging that her own love of film was borne out of watching movies on Betamax because there was no cinema near her childhood home.
Of her fertile collaborations with auteur Almodóvar, whom she described as “a genius”, she said: “We have this supernatural connection that, I don’t know, it’s been like a magical friendship. Since its debut on CBS on September 11, 1967, there was something distinctively special about "The Carol Burnett Show." This sketch comedy series spanned 279 episodes during its initial run, featuring acclaimed performances and comedic skits that were witty, sharp, and heavy on detail. Every actor who was a part of the show slipped into the shoes of a variety of characters that still remain memorable, including Carol Burnett's Charwoman (her signature role), and her parody of silent-film actress Nora Desmond. Some sketches were parodies of classic films such as "Gone With The Wind" or "Sunset Boulevard," while others mimicked soap opera structures or commercial spoofs.
By 1977, the popularity of the show had spiked, leading to some of the outstanding sketches being re-edited into standalone programs compiled in "Carol Burnett and Friends," which mashed the best skits into half-hour episodes. While the show relied on guest stars such as Jim Nabors and...

J.R. was waiting in line with maybe 200 fellow fans to spend a moment getting the autograph of – and perhaps taking a selfie with – Christina Ricci, the actress who made her debut in the “Addams Family” movies in the 1990s who is now an Emmy-nominated star on the Showtime series “Yellowjackets” as well as a regular on Netflix’s “Wednesday.” The setting on Saturday was the Hollywood Autograph Show at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, a three-times-a-year movie and memorabilia event where fans can come to lay eyes on some old-time celebrity favorites, get their name in ink, pose for a selfie and maybe pick up a book or vintage photograph.
Eighty or so celebrities staked out tables to sign their name and pix for a fee. J.R. was one of those who got hooked on attending these shows a few years back and now never misses one.

Although the Emmy Award for Best Pre-Recorded Variety Special has not gone to a retrospective program of any kind since the category was established in 2018, several such winners were crowned over the preceding decades when all variety specials competed for the same prize. This year’s pre-recorded program lineup happens to include two televised celebrations of industry legends, one of which – “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love” – is heavily favored to become the first special of its kind to achieve this exact honor.
The other commemorative special that could block the Burnett one’s path to victory is “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music & Laughter.” Based on the untested nature of their format, both will have to watch out for every one of their fellow nominees, which include “Lizzo: Live in Concert” and Netflix stand-up specials starring John Mulaney, Trevor Noah, and Wanda Sykes.

After 23 seasons in a red swivel chair, The Voice’s Blake Shelton took a load off Monday night to watch his last bunch of finale performances as a coach. He was sitting pretty, too, considering that the members his team, whittled down to just showman Noivas and country singer Grace West, were the likeliest to win the title. Did anyone from Team Kelly Clarkson, Chance the Rapper or Niall Horan deliver such a knockout that they might pull off an upset? Did Noivas and/or Grace stumble? Read on, and we’ll discuss.

While I was growing up back in the days when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, there wasn’t a ton of debate over who the funniest women in show business were. It was Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett, usually (but not always) in that order. Lucy was the First Lady of Television, and Carol was the dame who seemingly could do anything on a stage. She could sing, she could dance, she could tell jokes, she could wear crazy outfits with uncommon flair. It didn’t even matter if she sang or danced well, because performing something poorly would simply make her the butt of the joke – and no one could do that better than her.
I attended Hollywood High School and was always proud that it was also Burnett’s alma mater. She took out a full-page ad annually in the yearbook congratulating that year’s senior class. It...

Legendary performer Carol Burnett could add even more accomplishments to her stellar TV career this summer. She has two different programs that could extend her Emmy Awards nomination streak. A bid for either show would make her the first person to ever be nominated in seven consecutive decades. Her career has included 24 nominations with six wins along the way for “The Garry Moore Show” (1962), “Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall” (1963), “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Mad About You” (1997). She has also received major life achievement awards from the Kennedy Center Honors, Screen Actors Guild, Mark Twain Prize and TV Academy Hall of Fame.

As Carol Burnett turns 90, she bristles at the idea of looking back at her legacy. She’s not one to watch old episodes of her iconic “The Carol Burnett Show,” for example. “I’m not like Norma Desmond,” she quips, referring to the fading star in “Sunset Boulevard.” “The only time I do it is if I have to for a reason.”
In this case, NBC gave her a good one. The network is set to air “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love” on April 26, and the special features both new performances and clips from Burnett’s storied career. And it gave Burnett a chance to reminisce with old friends — and new.
“It’s exactly what I wanted,” Burnett said. “I didn’t want a birthday party with cake and balloons and confetti and all of that. What I wanted was to have an entertaining show. And that’s what we got.

So, did you ever wonder why Carol Burnett always tugs her ear? It was a way she could say “hi” to her beloved grandmother. The first time she did it was when she made her TV debut at 22 on the Dec. 17, 1955 episode of the popular “The Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney Show.” She played the girlfriend of the woody dummy. “The first song I sang on TV was ‘Over the Rainbow’ to Jerry Mahoney,” she noted in a 2016 L.A. Times interview with me. “I remember I called my grandmother to tell her I was going to be on television. Nanny said say hello to me. That’s when we came up with pulling my ear.”
Nearly seven decades later, Burnett is still tugging at her ear, singing and making people laugh And on April 26th, which is her 90th birthday, NBC is throwing her a celebration “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.
