The wedding bells are ringing for Mayan (Mayan Lopez) and Quinten (Matt Shively) in Season 3 of Lopez vs. Lopez. But as we've started to realize, it's not going to be all flowers until the day they say their wedding vows. In a new sneak peek that Collider can exclusively share from NBC, we're introduced to Quintens parents Sam and Ruthie, played by guest stars Stephen Tobolowsky (Nobody Wants This) and Vicki Lawrence (The Cool Kids). The episode is appropriately titled "Lopez vs. In-Laws," and it airs this Friday, November 1.

The hit NBC sitcom, Lopez Vs Lopez, combines family comedy vibes with a touch of dramatic gravitas thanks to themes of addiction and recovery that permeate every episode. That is, at 91 years old, with 25 Emmy nominations, two Peabodys and a Presidential Medal of Freedom, she’s only looking for one thing when it comes to work: fun.

One of the best physical comedians of all time, she did it again as Norma Dellacorte in Apple TV+’s 2024 comedy “Palm Royale,” about a social climber (Kristen Wiig) desperate for her aunt-by-marriage’s inheritance. Exclusive: George Lopez is planning to move on from the stand-up stage.

Lopez revealed that he will be retiring from stand-up comedy after the release of his upcoming special on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Speaking to Tamron Hall on her syndicated talk show, Lopez said, “It is the last one. I’ve subjected the American people to enough of my crap. It seems like the right time; it’s been the one thing that has just never left me my whole life and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”

Lopez added that he wanted to spend more time with his daughter Mayan Lopez, who he stars alongside in NBC comedy Lopez vs Lopez, which is heading into its third season. “I love the show,” he added.

It comes after Deadline revealed that Lopez filmed a new one-hour special as part of his “Alllriiiighhttt! Comedy” tour.

The news was revealed by his daughter Maggie Mull, an exec producer on Family Guy.

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously,” she wrote.

Al Schultz, who worked as a makeup artist for some of the top TV shows of the 1960s and ’70s and was married to Vicki Lawrence for five decades, has died. He was 82.

Schultz died June 19 at his home in Long Beach, California, according to his publicist. A cause of death was not given.

Schultz started his career in makeup in the mid-1960s. He was mentored by Harry Maret, who worked with the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Donna Reed and Doris Day. He began at NBC on shows like Hollywood Squares and Laugh-In and segued to a job at The Dean Martin Show, where he worked with the dancers known as the Golddiggers.

His big break came in 1968 when the Makeup Artists Union sent him to CBS Television City. There, he was noticed by Carol Burnett as he was walking by her dressing room, sparking a partnership that lasted for a decade.

Al Schultz, a top CBS makeup artist for The Carol Burnett Show and several groundbreaking Norman Lear sitcoms including All in the Family and Good Times and was married to Vicki Lawrence for nearly 50 years, has died. He was 82.

His publicist said today that Schultz died June 19 at his home in Long Beach, CA, but did not give details.

Born Alvin Schultz in 1942 in Wisconsin, he moved to Los Angeles and found work in Hollywood as a camera dolly operator and grip before pivoting to become a makeup artist. He joined variety hit The Carol Burnett Show during its third season in 1969 and would work in its makeup department for more than 180 episodes through 1977.

It was there he met Lawrence, the show’s co-star and future Mama’s Family lead. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale” is packed heels to highlights with legendary actresses, but Carol Burnett wants to add at least one more when they’re back for Season 2.

In an exclusive interview ahead of the 2024 IndieWire Honors — which took place on June 6 at Citizen News in Hollywood and saw the beloved comedienne winning the Vanguard Award for a lifetime of achievements in television — Burnett revealed that her old scene partner Vicki Lawrence not only watched but “loved” creator Abe Sylvia’s sparkling ‘60s satire about well-to-do Palm Beach.

“I wish they could find something for [Vicki] on the show,” said Burnett, who guest starred as the larger-than-life Norma Dellacorte in “Palm Royale” Season 1. “I’m going to ask Abe if there’s a part that might come up because that would be fun to have Vicki on. That would really be something. And not just a mercy booking. That’s not what I mean.

Since its debut on CBS on September 11, 1967, there was something distinctively special about "The Carol Burnett Show." This sketch comedy series spanned 279 episodes during its initial run, featuring acclaimed performances and comedic skits that were witty, sharp, and heavy on detail. Every actor who was a part of the show slipped into the shoes of a variety of characters that still remain memorable, including Carol Burnett's Charwoman (her signature role), and her parody of silent-film actress Nora Desmond. Some sketches were parodies of classic films such as "Gone With The Wind" or "Sunset Boulevard," while others mimicked soap opera structures or commercial spoofs.

The other commemorative special that could block the Burnett one’s path to victory is “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music & Laughter.” Based on the untested nature of their format, both will have to watch out for every one of their fellow nominees, which include “Lizzo: Live in Concert” and Netflix stand-up specials starring John Mulaney, Trevor Noah, and Wanda Sykes.

It marks NBC’s most-watched primetime entertainment special since the 2020 Golden Globes. This season, it ranks fourth among primetime entertainment specials, behind the Oscars, Grammys and ABC’s Rocking New Year’s Eve.

As Carol Burnett turns 90, she bristles at the idea of looking back at her legacy. She’s not one to watch old episodes of her iconic “The Carol Burnett Show,” for example. “I’m not like Norma Desmond,” she quips, referring to the fading star in “Sunset Boulevard.” “The only time I do it is if I have to for a reason.”

In this case, NBC gave her a good one. The network is set to air “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love” on April 26, and the special features both new performances and clips from Burnett’s storied career. And it gave Burnett a chance to reminisce with old friends — and new.

“It’s exactly what I wanted,” Burnett said. “I didn’t want a birthday party with cake and balloons and confetti and all of that. What I wanted was to have an entertaining show. And that’s what we got.

In honor of the comedy icon’s big birthday, NBC is hosting Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter and Love, a special featuring music, comedy and video highlights from Burnett’s one-of-a-kind career. Taking place at the Avalon Hollywood, the two-hour special will bring together Burnett’s friends, colleagues and admirers with personal tributes and musical performances.

The Fox comedy stars Big Bang Theory actor Mayim Bialik as the eponymous Kat, a 39-year-old single woman who runs a cat café in Louisville while navigating friendships, love, and career aspirations.
