Ted Lasso ended a year ago, but fans haven't stopped talking about the show. The show was a massive success for Apple TV+, earning the streamer 13 Emmy wins across its three seasons. Keen-eyed viewers have developed their own theories about characters and inspirations for the show. Brett Goldstein, the actor who plays soccer superstar Roy Kent, revealed that one theory about the show is entirely correct. With Wicked fresh in people's minds, one interviewer asked Goldstein if the Apple TV+ show had any connection to The Wizard of Oz. Goldstein said the show did and even elaborated on how the film inspired the personalities of some of the characters.

Ted Lasso is coming back for season 4, but it cant do one themed episode, no matter how great it would be. The AppleTV+ show showcased the titular Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) as he leaves the United States to take a job coaching a professional soccer club in England despite not knowing anything about the sport. Ted Lasso quickly became a beloved show for several reasons, including its messaging about mental health, quality characters, and overall wholesome story.
It was thought that Ted Lasso ended after season 3 which saw Ted return home to Kansas to be with his son. The show wrapped up nearly every characters storyline in a satisfying way, so it was surprising to hear that the show had been picked up for another season months after the Ted Lasso season 3 finale. Colin coming out as gay was a huge moment for LGBTQ+ representation in Ted Lasso, though something about how the Apple TV+ sports comedy handled his story didnt quite sit right with me. Colin, played by Billy Harris, had been a staple of Ted Lasso since the pilot, so his coming out in episode 6 of season 3, Sunflowers, was a long time coming. Hints about Colins sexuality had been drip-fed to viewers since the shows second season, and werent confirmed until season 3, episode 3, 4-5-1. After such a buildup, some of the ways the show handled this incredibly personal story arc were, to say the least, disappointing.
Ted Lasso confirmed Colin is gay at the start of 4-5-1, but its not until the end of the episode that other characters discover his LGBTQ+ identity. This comes when Trent spies Colin kissing Michael (Sam Liu) outside the restaurant the AFC Richmond players were all visiting.

While some of the most popular show on TV are dark and intense, a lighter and more optimistic show is often the best option. TV shows can be a huge comfort to people in tough times. It serves as joyous escapism when people most need it, and shows with lots of episodes can be a great way to relax the mind. Recently, prestige TV has trended toward darkness and drama, but the most popular shows on streaming platforms are often the happiest ones.
Beyond being mere distractions, uplifting TV shows can make people feel better about tough situations. While everyone has their own comfort watches to return to, some shows contain positive themes about family, friendship, and remaining hopeful. These shows are always a pleasure to watch, but they hit especially hard when people can relate to the characters on-screen. A comforting TV show can be the perfect balm for many wounds.

It is a deceptively simple premise for a two-hour feature film. A married couple who had planned their retirement in a B&b are, due to dire financial circumstances and bum luck, forced out of their home at a point that is, on the surface at least, completely devastating. With their kids now off at school, they make the decision to pack up what they can in their backpacks and take off on the Salt Path, a 630-mile stretch from Dorset to Somerset on the Southwestern English Coast. To make matters worse, the husband has just been diagnosed with a terminal neurodegenerative disease, but they are bound and determined to complete this adventure, perhaps the last of their lives because they have no other choice.
Oh, and it is a 100% true story.
Exquisitely directed by four-time Tony Award winner Marianne Elliott with a screenplay by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (She Said) based on Raynor Winn’s 2018 memoir, The Salt Path is an inspiring story of love and resilience in a situation that might otherwise break most people, especially a couple entering their later years with little hope against an unforgiving system. This is certainly not the first film based on someone setting out on an ambitious walk for various personal reasons. Martin Sheen starred as a man tackling El Camino de Santiago trail in 2010’s spiritual The Way; Reese Witherspoon played the depressed Cheryl Strayed in Wild, the 2014 true story of her 1100-mile hike on the Pacific Crest Trail; and Mark Wahlberg starred in another true story, 2020’s Joe Bell, about a father who walks across America in protest of the bullying of his son.
All of these films, and other similar stories of determination against all odds, were admirable attempts but not always successful movies as sometimes dramatizing the journey can be a little repetitive. Where Elliott succeeds with a fine Lenkiewicz template, is getting us instantly engaged in the travails of Ray (Gillian Anderson) and Moth (Jason Isaacs), a couple who could be you or me as life hits them hard in the gut and the Salt Path becomes somehow a cure, a spiritual redemption however temporary, to set them on a new path (literally and figuratively) in life. Is it an adventure? Is it insanity or an existential mid-life crisis? In some ways, it is reminiscent of the premise of John Cheever’s The Swimmer and its film adaptation, in which Burt Lancaster swam from one neighbor’s pool to another, encountering various people along the way. But moreover, it is the tale of these two born to come together to experience life together, no matter how hard that gets.
After unreasonably being evicted from their B&b, having their bank account dried up due to legal expenses and losing their farm, this likable couple decides to fullfil a dream and live off the land as it were by embarking with just chump change on an ambitious walk covering 630 breathtaking miles, even as Moth has had a pretty devastating diagnosis. This might stop most people in their tracks, but in this case only sets this couple off in theirs.
The story from this point on becomes episodic as they make their way, stopping at various points and towns, interacting with the locals and relatives, bleeding an Atm dry just for enough to get food, and even for Ray getting a job shearing sheep. Nothing hugely life-threatening happens along the way, no sudden tidal wave or earthquakes, none of the usual movie tropes, but rather a love story of two people making the most of where life has brought them to this point. Of course to make this work, you need actors of the extraordinary grace and talent of Anderson and Isaacs who are entirely believable as this pair staring down nature as an antidote to the cards life has dealt. Both are excellent in essentially a two-hander, although they get support along the way from various people they meet or stay with.
With Helene Louvart’s excellent cinematography a real plus, The Salt Path is a cinematic journey worth taking. It had its world premiere Thursday at the Toronto International Film Festival. Producers are Elizabeth Karlsen, Stephen Woolley, Lloyd Levin and Beatriz Levin.

From the very first moments of the “The Salt Path,” frantically capturing the vestiges of one middle-aged couple’s life swept out to sea by a turbulent tide of saltwater and sorrow, director Marianne Elliott’s inspirational drama chooses a deliberately deceptive path and gets off on the wrong foot. It’s not until later that it’s discovered that this in-media-res attention grabber, which has shaded our view of these downtrodden souls’ transformative journey, is a distorted reality. It’s used to manipulate us into anticipating that their watershed moment will be dire, when it’s really their saving grace. Yet with understated performances from Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, as well as immersive land and soundscapes that enhance the thematic pull, this portrait of loss, humanity and rebirth makes it worth the emotional investment.

Excitement and skepticism surround news of Ted Lasso's potential return for a fourth season after mixed reviews. Despite the green light for Ted Lasso season 4, concerns arise over the possible absence of key character Jamie Tartt. The success of Ted Lasso's season 4 hinges on the return of the entire cast to maintain the show's quality.
When I heard Ted Lasso might be coming back for a fourth season, I was both excited and suspicious, because as much as I love the sports comedy series, it is great because of one specific condition. Notably, Ted Lasso ended after three seasons in 2023. While the first two years were lauded for their mix of hilarious comedy and heartfelt drama, the third season earned mixed reviews. Many were sad to see the show go, especially when the final season seemingly lacked the magic of the first two. However, Ted Lasso may have a chance to redeem itself.

Sketch comedies can give birth to iconic characters, leading to successful TV series like Ted Lasso and The Simpsons. Some characters, like those in Mama's Family and The Honeymooners, transition from sketches to full-fledged TV shows. Web series like Letterkenny and Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared can evolve into popular TV series with lasting impact.
A great TV show can be created in many different ways, but some only came about because of a successful comedy sketch that resulted in its characters getting their own shows. Sketch comedies have the power to introduce characters that can quickly be understood by audiences, ideally within mere moments of their arrival. Especially when a character only has a few minutes to engage people, it's impressive when a sketch manages to be so popular that it births an entire show dedicated to it.
Considering just how many characters are created by comedians, or creatives in general,...

Ted Lasso surpassed all other streaming original series in 2023 with 16.9 billion minutes viewed, despite Apple TV+ having fewer subscribers than its competitors. The future of Ted Lasso is uncertain, with mixed statements from cast, crew, and executives. However, the show's success and popularity means Apple TV+ is likely to want to see it continue in some form. A decision on whether to continue Ted Lasso should be made to avoid harming its legacy. If season 3 is the end, it should be treated as such, but it could also serve as a bridge to season 4 or a spinoff.
Ted Lasso achieved a major streaming milestone for Apple TV+ in 2023. After garnering critical acclaim and an enthusiastic fanbase throughout seasons 1 and 2, season 3 of the hit series was released in March 2023. Who doesn’t love a group photo packed with big-name actors?
A slew of stars came together to say cheese and help raise north of $2.5 million in West Hollywood on Saturday night at the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s 17th annual Evening Before benefit. Co-chaired by Quinta Brunson and Bob Odenkirk, the annual event takes place ahead of the Emmy Awards, and this weekend’s installment shifted to the new year to follow the TV Academy’s celebration due to the dual strikes last summer.
“We’ve had quite a year, and this organization and its fundraiser has helped many weather the storm,” said Brunson. Added Odenkirk, “I’m thrilled to be a co-chair of MPTF’s Evening Before benefit with Quinta. MPTF really stepped up during a very challenging year to support the entertainment community, and I’m proud to be a part of a fundraiser that will help to sustain that vital support.

Tales of musicians who sold their soul for fame are common enough, Crossroads, Trick or Treat, Dark Roads 79 and The 27 Club are just a few examples. The Devil Went Down to Islington is a little different, however. It tells the tale of a music teacher who makes a Faustian bargain while drunk, only to panic when he realizes what he’s done.
It actually opens like a bizarre action film with Father Crowley using switchblade crosses to fight a pair of masked figures who are attacking a panicked man. He defeats them, but in the end Satan claims another soul.

London, July 28 (Ians) Irish actor Jack Gleeson, who plays the cruel and sadistic King Joffrey Baratheon in ‘Game of Thrones’, is set to feature in the TV adaptation of Enid Blyton’s ‘The Famous Five’ novels, and by the first look of his character, it appears to be another villainous one.
Gleeson has transformed into Wentworth for a first-look at the BBC’s reboot of ‘The Famous Five’ and looks very different from his role as Joffrey Baratheon.
His fair golden hair, which was synonymous with the Lannisters in ‘Game of Thrones’ is gone and instead, Gleeson cuts a rather villainous figure, as per Express UK.
The actor sports short dark locks and a thin moustache as he shoots a terrifying look at the camera.
His character Wentworth is dressed in a blue pinstripe suit with white shirt and striped scarf, which is fastened in a bow.
