Hey, "So Help Me Todd" fans. We hope you guys totally dug and savored every minute of episode 21 tonight, because it was definitely the final episode of So Help Me Todd's current, premiere season 1, and with this writers strike going on, we have no idea when you guys will see the debut of the new season 2. However, that is the good news we have to share with you. CBS did officially renew So Help Me Todd for a brand new season 2, and they did it quite early too. According to the folks over at Deadline.com, CBS renewed So Help Me Todd way back in February 2023. So, they were very pleased with the way it was performing. Deadline.com is also reporting that the showrunners for So Help Me Todd Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro are quitting. Apparently, they had only signed up to work on the first season.

So Help Me Todd will be back for a second season. Amid strong ratings, CBS announced today it has renewed the hit drama series starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin for premiere in the 2023-24 broadcast season.
The early renewal continues So Help Me Todd’s Cinderella story. Taking a big blow early in its pilot stage when the female lead was recast, with Harden replacing Geena Davis opposite Astin, the project hung in there in the middle of the pack before making a big pilot season finish with strong testing results, landing a series order.
There was also a showrunner change, with Elizabeth Klaviter replacing Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, who had signed on as EP/showrunners for the pilot only. But, just like NBC’s This Is Us whose trailer exploded after the upfronts, So Help Me Todd quietly gained momentum last summer, placing on lists of...

CBS has given full season orders to its three freshman dramas — “East New York,” “So Help Me Todd,” and “Fire Country.”
“CBS is off to a tremendous start this season, said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment. “We are thrilled to have the three most watched new series, each with their own unique settings, characters and storylines. These dramas are elevating our already successful lineup, resonating with diverse audiences both on-air and on streaming, and continuing to grow each week.”
“We thank the talented casts, executive producers and their incredible writing and production teams for bringing these shows to life,” Kahl added. “Additional kudos to our CBS programming teams for shepherding these series to success. We are delighted to give them well deserved full season orders.”
According to Nielsen’s Live+7 data as of Oct. 16, “Fire Country” is averaging 8.3 million viewers per episode, while “East New York” is at 7.4 million per episode.

CBS is wasting little time in locking down its trio of first-year scripted shows.
The network has extended the orders for East New York, Fire Country and So Help Me Todd after promising starts for all three. CBS is calling the extensions “full season orders,” though it hasn’t set episode counts for the trio. In the era of shorter season orders, a full run can mean anything from 15 or 16 episodes to the once-standard 22.
The pickups for the three shows come as little surprise, as Fire Country, East New York and So Help Me Todd are the three most watched rookie network shows of the 2022-23 season so far. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Fire Country drew 8.26 million viewers over seven days for its series debut. East New York is averaging 7.37 million over its first two episodes — and is the top-rated new series (and No.

Right now, the folks at CBS are immeshed in the debate surrounding the loss of “Hawaii Five-0’s” Asian American series regulars. But at the very same moment, the network is also launching a new series with the sort of diversity that could serve as a positive example for the rest of the network.
“Salvation,” CBS’s latest high-concept summer drama offering, doesn’t get nearly as crazy as “Zoo,” but instead takes a conspiracy thriller approach to what would happen if an planet-killing asteroid was discovered to be heading towards Earth.

Could Necessary Roughness Season 3 go down as “The Year Of Stamos?”
Possibly. But John Stamos joining the cast of this USA Network hit is far from its only addition.
The third season of the USA series is full of new twists and turns (and a glam new set) that has injected it with a rejuvenated life, attitude and an oh-so-slightly skewed direction that should ensure a long healthy run.
But let’s start with Stamos, who is known to make audiences swoon... but also seemed to have the same effect on his co-stars when I stopped by the Atlanta set last week.

Covert Affairs, Royal Pains and Necessary Roughness All Get Renewed!
16-episode orders for a season three of Covert Affairs, season four of Royal Pains and season two of Necessary Roughness were made today by USA. The renewals follow the season orders of White Collar, Suits, In Plain Sight and Burn Notice. Guess all we need to hope for is season six of Psych knocking it out of the park so that show gets renewed as well.
Covert Affairs stars Golden Globe-nominated Piper Perabo as Annie Walker, a young CIA operative whose exceptional linguistic skills make her invaluable to the Agency. The series also stars Christopher Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, Anne Dudek and Peter Gallagher. The second half of Season 2 of Covert Affairs will return on November 1 at 10/9c with six all-new episodes and guest appearances from Devin Kelley and Santiago Cabrera, and the return of Oded Fehr and Gregory Itzin.

After dominating the summer television landscape with a historic seven series on-air and capturing a sixth straight ratings win as cable's top entertainment network, USA finalized its sweep of series pickups on all of its summer originals with 16-episode orders of season three of Covert Affairs, season four of Royal Pains and season two of Necessary Roughness. The renewals, which follow the season orders of White Collar, Suits, In Plain Sight and Burn Notice, were announced today by USA Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel.
"USA's original programming blew through all expectations this summer. We had an unprecedented number of original series on our air -- and every single one of them was great," said McCumber and Wachtel. "The actors who make our shows unique aren't just stars, they are character actors in the finest sense. Our writers, directors and producers truly understand what it takes to create sustainable success.

USA Network is hoping to put together a "doctor in unusual circumstances" one-two punch with its new show Necessary Roughness following the new season premiere of Royal Pains. After HankMed has its way with you, Necessary Roughness will offer up a therapist who finds herself diving into less than the normal routine, and since the world of physical health doctor out of water did so well, hopefully the mental health world will perform as well.

Craig Shapiro had to have Callie Thorne.
Like a general manager who sets his sights on the free agent most suitable to his team, Shapiro wrote Necessary Roughness - which debuts June 29 on USA - with the former Rescue Me star in mind.
But there was a problem for Shapiro and his co-creating wife, Liz Kruger: Thorne was signed to another series. Should they wait three months to see if her pilot was picked up? Or move ahead with an alternative actress?
After auditioning over 120 possibilities, Shapiro chose the former option. When Thorne's new show was not picked up, and after she sent the staff a tape from New York, Necessary Roughness had its leading lady.
Why the focus on landing Thorne?
"Her voice on Rescue Me and on The Wire, she had the right sound for the character and the right attitude," Shapiro said during my set visit this week.

USA will debut two new shows this year, including a legal drama from Bourne trilogy producer Doug Liman.
The network has given series orders to A Legal Mind starring Gabriel Macht (Love and Other Drugs) and Patrick J. Adams (Lost) and Necessary Roughness starring Callie Thorne (Rescue Me).
Legal Mind (Universal Cable Productions) is about a top Manhattan corporate lawyer (Macht) who hires a street-smart college dropout (Adams) to team on legal cases — even though only one of them has a law degree. Mind is created by Aaron Korsh (The Deep End); Gene Klein (Covert Affairs) is producer and Liman is exec producer.

Rescue Me co-star Callie Thorne is staying on the cable series beat as the lead on the USA Network pilot Necessary Roughness. Meanwhile, Australian actress Rachael Carpani has landed the central role in another cable pilot with a female lead, Lifetime's Against the Wall. Inspired by the true story of a female psychiatrist who takes a gig as a consultant to the New York Jets that leads to a new career for her, Necessary Roughness centers on a tough, sexy Long Island divorcee (Thorne) who, to make ends meet, becomes the therapist for a professional football team and quickly becomes sought after by other athletes, musicians, politicians and those living in the spotlight. Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro wrote the script and are executive producing with Kevin Dowling, who will direct, Donna Dannenfesler and Joe Sabatino. On Rescue Me, Thorne plays Sheila Keefe, is the sexy, foulmouthed Italian-American widow of...

Rescue Me’s reigning nutcase Sheila is tackling a new career.
Callie Thorne has landed the lead role in the hourlong USA pilot Necessary Roughness, sources confirm to me semi-exclusively.
The potential series—which is inspired by a true story—centers on a female shrink (Thorne) who becomes the therapist for a professional football team. After succeeding beyond expectations, she is sought after by other athletes, musicians, politicians and those living in the spotlight who all want her unique brand of tough love therapy.
Miami Medical’s Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro penned the script. Thorne’s hiring lifts the cast contingency on the project.
