Yellowjacketsis split into two main timelines: 1996, when the team's plane crashes on its way to nationals, and 2021, when the surviving Yellowjackets reunite 25 years later. The audience gets to know the girls surviving in the wilderness as teenagers and their adult versions (the ones that survived) dealing with their trauma and a new set of mysteries. Since the girls led their high school soccer team into nationals, it's unsurprising that most Yellowjackets were already high school seniors.
However, the Yellowjackets were accompanied by the coaches, the coach's family, and even teammates from the Junior Varsity team, so not everyone was exactly the same age. Twenty-five years later, in 2021, the surviving girls are in their early 40s, but their arrested development has caused them many issues in their current lives. While not in the wilderness anymore, the adult Yellowjackets still battle their inner demons.

Yellowjackets is filled with intriguing moments and tons of mysteries. A few have endured through all seasons, including the Antler Queen, the man with no eyes, and the girl running through the woods that fans have affectionately named “pit girl.”
With the release of the third season, fans have been theorizing on pit girl really is. Early on in Season 3, fans predicted that pit girl is Mari (Alexa Barajas). There are a few obvious reasons why. But now, with the latest episode, there’s another potential candidate to consider.
Who Is Pit Girl?
Pit girl is a young woman who appears in a flashforward scene in the wilderness, in the pilot episode of the show. She is seen only from the back running through the woods as whispers are heard that at first sound like animals but then appear to be the other women themselves. Many thought she was Jackie...

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6, "Thanksgiving (Canada)."
The Yellowjackets season 3, episode 7 trailer confirms that the new wilderness characters are doomed. After being stranded in the wilderness for over a year without any sign of other human life, the teenage survivors encounter two new characters, played by Nelson Franklin and Ashley Sutton, during Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6's ending. Since the character played by Franklin has seen the severed head of Coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger), and the public does not know what the Yellowjackets did to survive, his odds of surviving were already low.
As shared by Paramount+ (via TV Promos), the odds of Franklin and Sutton's characters surviving are even lower now, with Shauna Shipman (Sophie Nélisse) insisting that they can get rescued without leaving any living witnesses. Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton) being covered in blood also does not bode well for the newcomers. In the present-day timeline,...

Networks pass on shows that go on to become huge hits all the time. HBO, for example, has a pretty bad track record with this sort of thing; over the years, they've famously passed on enormous projects like "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" (both of which ultimately put AMC on the prestige TV map) and, more recently, they said no to "Yellowstone," which became one of the biggest Paramount shows of all time. Apparently, they also said no to "Yellowjackets," which eventually found a home on Showtime ... but according to showrunners and creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (who are also married), the premium network had one very specific reason when they said no to "Yellowjackets."
In a 2022 interview with Deadline, Lyle told writer Lynette Rice that the pitching process was grueling and they did get significant offers as a result — but HBO was blunt about why they passed. As...

Who knew that a simple piece of jewelry could cause such a stir? In Episode 3 of Season 3 of Yellowjackets, called “Them’s The Brakes,” Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) furiously kicks Lottie (Simone Kessell) out of her house because of this necklace that has found its way through every season of the show. Now that fans have the answer to where it has been for the last 25 years, the question is: How did it get there, and what symbolic meaning does it truly hold?
The necklace, a simple chain with a heart-shaped pendant, was originally owned by Jackie (Ella Purnell), Shauna’s best friend before she perished. But its journey to Lottie clearly took many twists and turns that fans still have questions about. The necklace has a deep symbolism for the women, and that’s solidified through its appearance again in a flashback scene from Episode 5, “Did Tai Do That?”

With Lottie (Simone Kessell) confirmed dead in Yellowjackets, the investigation has begun to figure out who killed her. It seems unlikely that she just fell down the stairs on her own. Naturally, fingers are pointing to the obvious suspect, Tai (Tawny Cypress), considering Episode 5 is even called “Did Tai Do That?”
But as the ladies, led by Misty (Christina Ricci), dive deeper into the mystery, they uncover that there’s a lot about Lottie they didn’t know. Her death could be at the hands of just about anyone, the reason for just about anything.
Misty Jumps Full Force Into an Investigation
The episode begins with Misty, one of the best characters on Yellowjackets, using her amateur sleuthing skills and connections to gather information. Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 4.When a series is built upon enduring mysteries in the way Yellowjackets has always been, struggling to create satisfying answers can become a huge pitfall, especially when you're telling two ongoing stories at once. After such a gripping cliffhanger in the first season, it looked like the show was falling prey to that particular problem. However, the latest episode upends all those expectations. The unexpected murder of Lottie (Simone Kessell) at the very end not only comes completely out of nowhere but also breathes new life into a story that was struggling to remain relevant.

The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4, "12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis," now streaming on Paramount+ and debuting Sunday, March 1 on Showtime.
Yellowjackets' present storyline features many of the survivors as adults, navigating seemingly normal life while still emotionally burdened by their wrongdoings in the woods. Shauna Shipman experiences the most change from her younger to adult self. And when she begins to unleash her teenage, feral side in the present day, it's her husband Jeff Sadecki and daughter Callie Sadecki that are affected. Jeff remains supportive of Shauna even in her worst moments, while Shauna's relationship with Callie is a bumpier road.
In the Yellowjackets Season 3 premiere, Callie spills pig guts on her high school classmates -- an incident resembling the same rage teenage Shauna had. It's possible that Shauna has unknowingly created a miniature version of herself in Callie, while Jeff is far from the type to...

Warning: this article contains massive spoilers for "Yellowjackets."
On the latest "Yellowjackets," the teenage cast — stuck in the wilderness and the '90s — held a trial for Coach Ben (Steven Krueger), accused of torching their cabin last season. In the 2021 timeline, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) was once more haunted by the late Jackie (Ella Purnell) while Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) tested if the Wilderness is hungry for another trade of lives.
Overall, the past storyline (as usual) seemed like the higher stakes one — until the episode's closing moments, when Misty (Christina Ricci) sees the latest post on her Citizen Detective message board. Lottie (Simone Kessell) is dead, lying at the bottom of a stairwell. Just to convince any doubters, the camera lingers on her still body to show, yes, she really is dead.
This twist has got the "Yellowjackets" hive all riled up, and not exactly because they're singing its praises.

Yellowjackets has proven that no one is safe with the tragic death of adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis) at the end of Season 2. With Season 3 well underway after an almost two-year wait, fans have had time to process the death of one of the only surviving women from the ordeal in the wilderness 25 years earlier. This death will likely serve as a catalyst for everything that happens through the remainder of the series in at least one of the timelines. And that will include an investigation into who would have killed this person.

No survivor is safe this season on Yellowjackets, not even the Og Antler Queen herself.
Ahead of this week’s episode of the hit Showtime series, Simone Kessell opened up to Deadline about the “terrible” conclusion to Lottie’s arc and bidding farewell to the character in ’12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis’.

And lighting guys were like, ‘oops, sorry,’ stepping over me, and I’m like, ‘It’s fine, it’s fine, could you get off my hair?'” she recalled with a laugh. “It was just like such an unglamorous way for Lottie to go, and I got a little emotional just lying on the floor.”

Who killed Lottie Matthews?
In a shocking turn of events, Episode 4 of “Yellowjackets” ends in the present day, with adult Lottie, played by Simone Kessell, dead at the bottom of the stairs.
Earlier in Season 3, Lottie showed up at Shauna’s (Melanie Lynskey) door, fresh out of the psych ward, with luggage in hand. She had nowhere to go, and Shauna reluctantly let her stay. With a dinner to go to, Shauna and Jeff (Warren Kole) didn’t want to leave Lottie alone with their teen daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins), so Shauna she pleaded with Misty (Christina Ricci) to come and play babysitter. Shauna didn’t want Lottie spilling any secrets about what happened in the wilderness.
Callie and Lottie bond, though, and then they go on a shoplifting spree.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 4 “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis.”] The wilderness chose. And it chose Lottie (Simone Kessell). The tortured soul drew her last breath in the fourth episode of Season 3. As a teen, Lottie (Courtney Eaton) had been the greatest believer in the mysterious supernatural force that the stranded Yellowjackets sensed in the wilderness. She continued her devotion to what she called “it” through her adult life in which she became a spiritual guide. That all came crashing down in the second season finale, and she’s been trying to claw her way back to a life she can love ever since. One way to do that was to make amends, which Kessell explains to TV Insider was what Lottie was planning to do after that painful scene of her practicing a speech in the mirror. “She’s rehearsing an apology for the people who believed in her, the...

Despite Lottie's attempt to murder Shauna in the Season 2 finale to give the wilderness "what it wants," Shauna and Lottie are strangely two sides of the same coin. Whether Shauna likes it or not, she is driven by primal instincts that she developed in the woods. But Lottie may be the very person she lets out those instincts on if Lottie continues to grow closer to Callie. Cbr recently attended a roundtable with...

A wild ending to “Dislocation” pushed Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) into a difficult position. It’s unclear if a figure of her past is haunting her or if she’s hoping that Melissa (Jenna Burgess) returns to her life. Her unhappiness in her marriage bleeds into “Them’s The Breaks” — Season 3 Episode 3 of Yellowjackets. A bad dinner, a stalker, and a poorly timed dine-and-dash might be the least of everyone’s worries.

Juliette Lewis was a mainstay of the Yellowjackets' powerhouse cast, but her tenure didn't last beyond two seasons.
Lewis portrayed adult Natalie in the show, who had up-and-down struggles with sobriety following the team's harrowing ordeal in the wilderness 25 years prior.
In the Season 2 finale, fans were shocked when Natalie was accidentally killed by her friend Misty (Christina Ricci) with a lethal dose of phenobarbital that was meant for Lottie (Simone Kessell).

If you watched the premiere of Yellowjackets Season 3, you probably noticed that there's something different about both versions of Lottie (Courtney Eaton and Simone Kessell). Her younger version is having a different reaction to the events that are taking place in the woods, and her older self is...free. Away from the wellness center and letting her hair down at Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) house, she is definitely on a much less dark path than when the series began. During an interview with Collider, Kessell talked about this new version of Lottie.

After a nearly two-year hiatus from Showtime, Yellowjackets has finally returned for Season 3. Critics are already praising the series, saying it’s off to a “bloody good start” with even more intriguing mysteries to unravel.
As of Friday, the darkly comedic drama series has a generally favorable Metacritic score of 63 based on 14 reviews. Of those, eight are positive, six are mixed, and none are negative. On Rotten Tomatoes, where reviews are classified simply as positive or negative as opposed to Metacritic’s sliding scale from 0 to 100, Season 3 is rated 92 percent fresh based on 12 reviews. That score disparity suggests that most responses are favorable but shy of the second season: 77 on Metacritic and 94 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Among those critics who are impressed is Kelly Lawler (USA Today), who says, “The new episodes have happily dispensed with problematic Season 2 storylines and focused on what makes the show work: its cast,...

At one point in “Yellowjackets” Season 2, the grown women who once trauma-bonded in the wilderness are enjoying a rare moment of joy. Drunk off each other’s company (and quite a bit of tequila), they can’t help feeling the camaraderie that they once had as teammates, maybe even before a plane crash derailed their lives.
“That first summer, do you guys remember—” begins Misty (Christina Ricci), but she’s cut short.
“Do you want to casually reminisce about our time in fucking oblivion?,” asks an incredulous Van (Lauren Ambrose). Misty backs down, even though she does.
In Season 3, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) alludes to said oblivion as when “we survived,” and this time Van cuts in to a different tune.
“You can just say ‘ate each other,'” she says coolly. A lot has changed since the last time these women drank together, and “Yellowjackets” returns with many such leaps...

With the Yellowjackets officially out of the cold, the soccer team’s future looks a little brighter. However, whether Coach Ben started the fire is still very much on the table. Meanwhile, in the present day, Natalie’s funeral provided a moment of solace. However, the murder investigation into Shauna and Jeff is unlikely to go away anytime soon. It does not help that Callie threw guts on the other girls in school either. Let’s see what’s up for the girl’s soccer team in “Dislocation” and what potentially disturbing relations are happening.

‘Yellowjackets’ Review: Showtime Hit Struggles to Find Its Footing in Intriguing but Wobbly Season 3

On Showtime’s Yellowjackets, there are (at least) two versions of every story. We’re reminded of this minutes into the third season premiere. Out among the group, Van (Liv Hewson) cheerfully recounts their journey as a heroic one, filled with sacrifice but also rewards from “the wilderness.”
At the same time, alone with her diary, Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) recaps the same events in much more cynical terms: “A bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the wilderness and then went completely fucking nuts.”
Neither feels totally right and neither feels totally wrong — just as describing this series as simply a mystery-box thriller or a character-driven drama, a tale about girls in the woods or one about women grappling with past trauma, wouldn’t quite fit either.
At its best, as in the show’s propulsive debut season, this duality is what makes Yellowjackets so deliciously rich. When it’s less successful,...

In the Canadian wilderness where the namesake soccer team of “Yellowjackets” has been stranded for months, it’s finally summer. Snow has melted; there are leaves on the trees; the abandoned cabin that burned to ash in the Season 2 finale has given way to a makeshift village of wooden lean-tos. For a group so exposed to the natural world, the change in weather marks a profound shift in the status quo, and for fans of the Showtime drama, the fresh air is both literal and metaphorical.
In the modern-day timeline that takes up half of the series’ screen time, eerily little has changed. Season 2 culminated in the first major death among the adult survivors of a 1990s plane crash and the extended isolation that followed. Just as the younger version of Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) was appointed leader of her impromptu tribe, her older self (Juliette Lewis) fell victim to a syringe of fentanyl.

In an episode from the third season of Yellowjackets, two characters cook a meal while singing and dancing along to Cass Elliot’s 1969 hit “Make Your Own Kind of Music.” For TV fanatics, it’s a song that will forever be associated with the second-season premiere of Lost, where Elliot’s soaring vocals accompanied our first glimpse inside the mysterious Dharma Initiative hatch. This soundtrack choice does not feel coincidental, since Yellowjackets is another show about characters struggling to survive in a hostile, possibly mystical, wilderness after a plane crash,...

When season 1 of "Yellowjackets" debuted back in 2021, few predicted what a phenomenon the series would become, including the show's creators, Ashley Lyle, and Bart Nickerson. For the uninitiated, "Yellowjackets" tracks characters across two timelines: the first, in 1996 after the nationals-bound Wiskayok Yellowjackets women's soccer team's plane crash lands them in the Canadian wilderness and thrusts them into barbaric survival including cannibalism, and in our current day 25 years later where the now-adult survivors are still plagued by whatever it was that happened to them (or what they did) all those years ago.
While the characters all have their own individual plotlines across both timelines, the show is at its best when it's operating as an ensemble cast. Fortunately, after the heartbreaking end to season 2, our girls are leaning on each other more than ever, but the scars of psychological trauma and enduring legitimate survival horror aren't fading anytime soon. If anything,...

Mirroring the pilot episode, Season 3 of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” starts out by following a dark-haired teenage girl as she runs through the woods to escape unseen pursuers. But unlike the enigmatic introduction to the series, by the time viewers reach this scene in Season 3, the grisly rules of the hunt have become disturbingly clear: Kill or be eaten.
Regrettably, that rule still remains one of the few clear things about the darkly delightful “Yellowjackets,” as Season 3 continues the series’ frustrating habit of spooling out seemingly endless new mysteries without providing answers to the creepy mythology at its core.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and originally premiering in 2021, “Yellowjackets” may be best described as a ’90s survival drama and modern-day mystery stacked together in a trenchcoat. The series follows the members of a 1996 high school girls’ soccer team — mascot, the Yellowjackets — on their way to Nationals. But the girls...

By the end of Yellowjackets Season 2, things were looking bleak for the girls. In 1998 their coach burned down their only shelter, leaving them freezing in the wilderness – in 2021, Nat (Juliette Lewis) died and Lottie (Simone Kessell) was committed. Before you feast on the third season of “Yellowjackets,” which drops its first two episodes this Friday, here’s a refresher on key moments from Season 2 you won’t want to forget.

Nobody is ever truly safe on "Yellowjackets," the dual-timeline drama series that became a major hit for Showtime when it started airing in 2021. In the present-day timeline, we meet Shauna Sadecki (Melanie Lynskey), Taissa Turner (Tawny Cypress), Misty Quigley (Christina Ricci), and Natalie Scatorccio (Juliette Lewis) as the adult survivors of a plane crash that stranded a high school girls' soccer team called the Yellowjackets who were traveling from New Jersey to Seattle for an important game. Back in the 1996 timeline, which takes place in the immediate aftermath of the crash, those same characters — played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, and Sophie Thatcher, respectively — have to work with their teammates and other passengers to figure out how to survive in the woods, and the...

Fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) have been patiently waiting to see the bonus episode that was supposed to air sometime between the second and third seasons… but the wait for that is going to be longer than expected, because the decision has been made to hold off on the bonus episode and have Yellowjackets season 3 premiere on February 14th. With that date just a few days away, a clip from the premiere episode has dropped online, and in this clip the character Van (played by Liv Hewson) “retells the story so far,” giving the “previously on Yellowjackets” recap. You can check it out in the embed above.
Yellowjackets is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane...

Showtime has released a sneak peek at the “Yellowjackets” Season 3 premiere that doubles as a refresher on the story so far.
In the clip below, Van recounts the triumphant tale to her fellow survivors during a summer solstice celebration, while Shauna shares her traumatic perspective on the events in isolation.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, “Yellowjackets” is the saga of a team of high school soccer players who become the survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later.
In season three, as summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory—the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued. In the present,...

“This is the most fun and exciting season yet. It’s very smart and shocking — and people die,” teases Christina Ricci, who plays the grownup version of pert but deadly people pleaser and perpetual outsider, nurse Misty Quigley on the dual-timeline psychological horror thriller Yellowjackets. The series follows a high school soccer team stranded in the wilderness after a 1996 plane crash, and those same characters, post-rescue, 25 years later. The women are haunted by the secret cannibalism that kept them alive and divided on the existence of a mysterious bloodthirsty entity that may have followed them out of the woods. Misty, the odd one out of the oddball group, suffered another trauma in the second installment’s finale, which aired in May of 2023. The survivors were gathered at unhinged guru Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) spirituality retreat and things spiraled into them recreating their teenage ritualistic hunt. The prey was stay-at-home mom...

2025 may be a month old already, but in the world of TV the year is still incredibly young. And so even though we’re already eyes-deep in Severance Season 2 and the second series of Silo on Apple TV+, thwipping all over the place for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+, and have comfortably binged American Primeval and Harlan Coben’s Missing You on Netflix, a veritable streaming smorgasbord still lies ahead of us over the next eleven months or so.
From Andor to Zero Day, The Last Of Us to Stranger Things, and Alan Partridge to Wonder Man to Doctor Who, there is no shortage of returning favourites, fresh franchise offerings, original programming, weekly droppers and binge-ready shows in store for us before the year is through. So whether you’re chomping at the bit for Sally Wainwright’s Happy Valley follow-up, have a date to make with Adam Brody...
