As an artistic medium that has reached audiences across the board of entertainment, animated television shows can offer viewers rousing storytelling, fun characters and engaging visuals that stay in fans’ minds, and the decade of the 2000s delivered numerous series that have maintained pop culture relevancy. However, despite many of these big shows impacting the television landscape, some 2000s animated series have faded away with time.
Many of these 2000s animated shows have a lot to offer modern audiences regarding intriguing plots, expressive characters and thrilling animation that will undeniably reflect some of the best aspects of the decade as well as the timeless qualities within each program. As new generations take a look back at these unsung shows, their themes are likely to stay just as relevant (if not more so) as ever.

If you thought The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso was a force to be reckoned with on screen, it turns out he is so tough he even spooked an Mma legend. Yeah, the dorky kid from Super 8 with the glasses. That guy. In a genre that relies on trick photography, quick edits, digital face-swaps, and countless expendable stuntpeople, there are those A-list performers that feel a twinge of embarrassment at faking it.
He's put everything he's learned into his short time on The Night Agent. But it's the action sequences that bring out his neurotic side. Performers don't just memorize the scene's blocking, stage cues, and dialogue, but also have to convincingly sell a phony gut punch — something they evidently failed to cover in his early days as a child actor on the set of Nickelodeon's iCarly. Pushing his body to further extremes all for the sake of building a better cinematic beatdown,...

Quick LinksWhat Does Osprey Have to Do With the Night Action Program? And Who is He/She?What Happens to Osprey in 'The Night Agent' Season 1?And Does He Appear in Season 2?
Ever since The Night Agent landed on Netflix, the series has become one of the platform’s most-watched shows. The wildly popular series is an action thriller that follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who works in the basement of the White House. His only job is to answer the phone if it ever rings. Nonetheless, it never does. Designated for a highly classified counterintelligence program within the FBI known as Night Action, the phone is meant to assist undercover agents in the field should they ever need immediate help. As such, Peter spends most of his time analyzing reports rather than actually answering the phone.

Warning: Spoilers for The Night Agent Season 2.
As one of the most watched Netflix series ever, The Night Agent continues to amass quite a following. The first season premiered in March 2023 and immediately shot to the top of the platform’s viewing charts. When its second season arrived in January 2025, it once again dominated Netflix’s Top Ten list. The series follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) who initially begins the show answering a phone in the basement of the White House. Strictly designated for the highly classified counterintelligence program in the FBI known as Night Action, the phone never rings. At least, it never has the entire time Peter has manned the phone. All that changes in Season 1. What follows ultimately thrusts Peter even deeper into the world of Night Action as he unravels a massive conspiracy involving the vice president and the president’s chief of staff.

The Night Agentis one of Netflix's most popular action shows. The series has had two extremely successful seasons, with its debut season releasing in 2023. The first season performed so well that a follow-up season was confirmed a mere week after the release of Season 1. Now, Season 2, which was released only days ago, is already dominating Netflix's US charts. Given its success, it comes as no surprise that a third season of The Night Agent is also in the works.
In fact, the series' third season was confirmed prior to Season 2's release, clearly demonstrating Netflix's faith in The Night Agent. Led by Gabriel Basso in the titular role of FBI-agent-turned-Night-Agent Peter Sutherland, the series is packed with conspiracies involving the highest levels of government, explosive action and the most unexpected plot twists. Season 1 saw Peter rescue the President from an assassination attempt, while Season 2 took the agent into a global sphere.

Quick Links Who Is Catherine Weaver in 'The Night Agent' and What Is Her Relation to Peter? Why Catherine Is the Best Character in 'The Night Agent' Season 2 Amanda Warren in 'The Night Agent'
The Night Agent Season 2 saw the return of lead characters Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan). But it also introduced fans to an entirely new supporting cast of characters. Not all of them survived to the end, but some of them did. And that includes one stand-out character that fans feel like they have only just scratched the surface of learning about.
This character proves to be fierce, confident, and understanding while also morally sound yet tough. She has been through a lot, and it shows. But she can also handle herself well. Given the way the season ended, it’s likely she returns. And fans hope that is the case.

Quick Links Who Is Solomon in 'The Night Agent' Season 2? The Softer Side of Solomon in 'The Night Agent' How Does Solomon Die in 'The Night Agent'? Berto Colon Before His Role in 'The Night Agent'
The Night Agent didn’t shy away from killing off characters in the first season, and the second season is no different. The season features an almost entirely new cast, which means so many new characters to get to know. Some lasted all the way through, and a few perished by the end.
There’s one character in particular who was being painted for possible redemption. But the hit Netflix show wasn’t about to give it to him. The character, instead, was killed off in a sudden and gruesome way. His death will permeate through Season 3. And though it was surprising, in hindsight, fans should have seen it coming.

After a near-two year wait, The Night Agent is back on Netflix and already shooting up a storm with critics. The original season was released in May 2023, and the political action thriller took just a few weeks to become one of Netflix’s biggest shows, although it did not completely impress with its 74% Tomatometer score. This time around, creator Shawn Ryan has upped the ante, and it seems the lengthy wait has proven to be worth it.

In the horror film Orphan First: Kill, Isabelle Fuhrman reprises her role as Leena, a 31-year-old woman with a rare hormonal disorder that makes her look like a little girl. Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender makes key changes to Sozin's Comet, adapting the celestial event in a new way. Sozin's Comet is a driving force in the backstory of the Hundred-Year War, with Fire Lord Sozin using its power to launch a devastating attack on the Air Nomads. The live-action series remains faithful to elements of the original while tweaking the future importance of Sozin's Comet.
Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series teases Sozin's Comet in its premiere episode, but it also makes some massive changes to the plot device. The fantasy drama adapts Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko's animated Nickelodeon series of the same name, though Netflix's Atla has received backlash for its worst changes to the source material. With fewer episodes to work with, Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 cuts and condenses plot points in order to make the over-arching narrative work. Of course,...

Following in the footsteps of One Piece‘s success, the new adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Netflix on 22nd Feb, but unlike the former, it has struggled to appeal to the fans of the IP. But despite not surpassing the bar set by the original show, it was a notable improvement over M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, and it’s reasonable to assume this isn’t the last of it.
With the first season being a massive hit, racking in more than 22.2 million views within just four days after its premiere, it’s safe to say a sequel will be underway soon. And this could allow fan-favorite Mark Hamill to star in the live-action version, who has previously shown interest in working with the IP.

It’s a true battle of fire and ice in the Season 1 finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender. On one side, there’s Avatar Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), Sokka (Ian Ousley), and the Northern Water Tribe. On the other, there’s the Fire Nation forces, led by Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), his uncle Ihro (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), and Commander Zhao (Ken Leung). The Fire Nation seems determined to take the Northern Water Tribe’s capital of Agna Qel’a — and defeat the Avatar once and for all — no matter who dies on their quest for world domination. Some are even willing to sacrifice the primal forces of nature, like the Moon Spirit, to do so.
You may be asking yourself, “Why?” Showrunner and executive producer Albert Kim reveals that the answer might be more complicated than you think. Fire Lord Sozin (Hiro Kanagawa) started the Fire Nation’s war...

Thirteen years after playing serial killer Leena Klammer (a.k.a. Esther) in the horror thriller Orphan, Isabelle Fuhrman has reprised the role in the prequel Orphan: First Kill (read our review Here) – which was released through the Paramount+ streaming service last Friday. Orphan: First Kill was also given a 498 screen theatrical release in the United States, and earned 1,675,000 over the weekend – a decent haul for that number of screens. So there was clearly an interest in seeing Fuhrman play Esther again. And during an interview with Variety, Fuhrman confirmed that she would be willing to come back for an Orphan 3 if it gets made.
Leena Klammer / Esther is an adult who was able to pass herself off as a 9 year old kid in the first Orphan. Looking 9 was easy for Fuhrman at the time because she was a child when she made that movie… but some trickery had to...

The Picturehouse release of National Geographic Documentary Films The Territory grossed a solid 26.4K in six markets (eight screens) for a PSA of 3,308 with its climate change message attracting a broader than typical age range for a theatrical doc, especially lately, according to Picturehouse CEO Bob Berney.
He called it “very encouraging to see younger people attending and asking for ways they can help support the indigenous people of Brazil… The film is a call to action as well as a beautifully crafted work.”
The first feature by Alex Pritz, produced by Darren Aronofsky and Sigrid Dyekjaer, follows the fight of the indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people in Brazil – less than 190 of them – against land-grabbing incursions of non-native farmers causing major deforestation. “We are getting a kind of younger activist demographic that is really nice to see. And obviously in New York we also had a lot of Brazilians that came, because there is a community there.

It’s Estonia, 2007, and the opening sequence of “Orphan: First Kill” assures we are in the realm of a horror movie because it opens with an overheard shot of a car snaking up a mountainous road blanketed in snow. That’s an obvious crib from “The Shining” that horror filmmakers can’t ever seem to resist, and it’s never not a charming genre in-joke in the key of the Wilhelm Scream, an evocative and easy reference filmmakers love to throw in to put us in a chilling mood.

Review: Thirteen years ago, the horror thriller Orphan introduced us to Esther, a 9-year-old girl who is adopted by a family… and then turns out to be thirty-something serial killer Leena Klammer, who is able to pass herself off as a child because she has a hormonal disorder called hypopituitarism. It was a terrific twist that allowed a film that looked like another take on The Bad Seed to become something else entirely. Esther/Leena was played by Isabelle Fuhrman, who was around 10 or 11 when she was on set, making it easy for her to pass as a 9-year-old herself. Now Fuhrman is an adult, but that hasn’t stopped her from reprising the role of Esther in the prequel Orphan: First Kill.
“How can Fuhrman possibly look like a 9-year-old again?...

The final act of 2009’s Orphan revealed a shocking twist; the adopted 9-year-old Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) wasn’t a child but a murderous 33-year-old with hypopituitarism. Over a decade later, Esther returns to slay again. Instead of an older, wiser Esther, Orphan: First Kill rewinds the clock to follow the exploits of the childlike killer’s first adoptive family. The now adult Fuhrman reprising her role is the first overt clue that this prequel intends to fully embrace the over-the-top ‘90s thriller vibe its predecessor started, camp and all.
First Kill reacquaints us with Esther with a reminder of her homicidal tendencies. An extended opening sequence at an Estonian psychiatric facility demonstrates how deceptive and lethal Esther can be as she sets a plan to escape in motion. Esther then assumes the identity of a wealthy American family’s long-lost daughter. Impersonating the missing child proves a highly daunting...

"If you're not Esther, then who are you?" Paramount Pictures has revealed the first trailer for a new horror movie titled Orphan: First Kill, a prequel to the 2009 horror hit Orphan. Unfortunately none of the original team is back, with a new writer and a new director handling this. Esther's terrifying saga continues in this thrilling prequel to the original and shocking horror. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family, but an unexpected twist arises. She must end up battling another over-protective mother. Isabelle Fuhrman returns to star as Esther, joined by Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawa, Matthew Finlan, and Julia Stiles. This looks a lot like a repeat of the original, with a few unique twists. I dig the blacklight aspects in here, not only visually engaging but adding another element of mystery & intrigue to this horror.
