Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Today we have this year’s edition, as voted on by over 300 film executives.
Topping the 2022 edition is Catherine Schetina’s Pure, with a logline as follows: “Obsessed with food purity, Hannah’s trip to her sister’s destination wedding descends into madness when she contracts a mysterious foodborne illness that threatens to destroy her from within.”
Other scripts feature a look at the employees of Four Seasons Total Landscaping on November 7, 2020, the makings of It’s a Wonderful Life and the Madden videogame, a dark comedy about the Hindenburg Disaster, biopics on Dolly Parton, Michael Phelps, and Jerry Springer, and quite a heaping of sci-fi stories.

This September, Naomi Watts stars in director Matt Sobel’s thriller Goodnight Mommy. The film will be available globally via Prime Video on September 16, 2022.
When twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their mother’s (Naomi Watts) country home to discover her face covered in bandages—the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery—they immediately sense that something doesn’t add up. She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her—things their loving mother would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys’ minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t their mother at all.

Coming to Prime Video on September 16 is Goodnight Mommy.
Twin brothers (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) arrive at their Mother’s country home (Naomi Watts) to discover her face covered in surgical bandages. Immediately something is off. Their Mother smokes, sets strict rules, refuses to sing their favorite bedtime song, and secretly rips up a drawing Elias gives her — things their previously warm, caring mom would never do. They begin to suspect the woman is not their mother at all, but even after she turns violent, the police don’t believe the children are in danger. Becoming increasingly suspicious, the boys try to uncover who they are really living with, in this suspenseful, psychological thriller.
Goodnight Mommy is directed by Matt Sobel from a screenplay by Kyle Warren, based on the 2014 film Goodnight Mommy (written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, produced by Ulrich Seidl).

First, she sees strange people surrounding his bed. People who are, of course, gone when help arrives. The police think she was sleepwalking. She knows better, she’s too busy having nightmares to go for a walk. Then David falls mysteriously ill, having seizures and vomiting blood. But whatever it is,...
A hellfire and damnation preacher’s sermon blares from the car radio as Laura and her infant son David (Luke David Blumm; The Sinner) escape from the cult she was raised in. She’ll run as far and as fast as she can and build a new life and identity for them. But now, eight years later the past has caught up to her. It seems she can run, but there are some things neither she nor David can hide from.

Jean Zarzour, Ray Abruzzo, Joe Pantoliano, Lynn Cohen, and Paul Ben-Victor in Robert Tinnell’s memorable and smart Feast Of The Seven Fishes
Robert Tinnell’s memorable and smart Feast Of The Seven Fishes, shot by Jamie Thompson, production design by Jason Baker, costumes by Joshua Hurt, edited by Aaron J Shelton, and a score by Matt Mariano, has a great ensemble cast including Paul Ben-Victor (Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman), Joe Pantoliano, Skyler Gisondo, Madison Iseman, Ray Abruzzo, Lynn Cohen, Jean Zarzour, Addison Timlin, Josh Helman, Andrew Schulz, Jessica Darrow, Cameron Rostami, David Kallaway, Tony Bingham, and Nancy Telzerow,
When I met with screenwriter/director Robert Tinnell for a conversation, he told me how much the film is based on his childhood memories. The time is Christmas 1983, the place a small Appalachian town in West Virginia. An extended Italian American family is readying to celebrate the Feast Of The Seven Fishes.

Stars: Josh Stewart, Alex Essoe, Bill Engvall, Melissa Bolona, Luke Edwards, Jaqueline Fleming, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Skipp Sudduth, David Kallaway | Written by Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton | Directed by Marcus Dunstan
It’s safe to say I’m a fan of the films of Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. Between them, the duo have written and/or directed some fun fear flicks: Feast and it’s sequels (which I truly adore), Saw 4 – 7 and the fantastic pairing of The Collector and The Collection. It’s been four years since the latter film, their last feature, and now they’re back with The Neighbour – which also marks the Third time the filmmakers have worked with actor Josh Stewart.
Set in Cutter, Mississippi, The Neighbour follows two small-time drug-traffickers, John (Stewart) and Rosie (Essoe), who operate a weigh station next door to their creepy, hunting-obsessed neighbour, Troy. Planning to leave their drug-dealing life behind,...

Another official black and white Logan image has been released, and this time it's not a road sign or a derelict building, but an actual character from he film. The pic introduces one of the villainous Reavers, and though he's not named here the actor playing him is believed to be David Kallaway. In addition, the guys over at OmegaUnderground have come across some previously unreleased set pics, which give us a look at some of his teammates. You'll notice Boyd Holbrook's Donald Pierce is going to have some kind of bionic arm, which is a nod to the character's cyborg roots in the comic books. Every year the movies seem to be dying. The writing is on the wall with attendance numbers and box office receipts and the Golden Age of TV. Will people still go to the movies if they can now watch high quality, HD programming from their own home?
Theater chains themselves have been reluctant to give in to Netflix and VOD, but at the risk of being made obsolete entirely, two chains are doing an experiment suggesting they may be willing to play ball. THR reported this week that Paramount, AMC Theaters, and Cineplex have struck a deal regarding two of their upcoming films, the new Paranormal Activity movie, and Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, both October releases. Traditionally, movies are not available on VOD or digital release until three to four months after their initial run in theaters is over, which can be anywhere from a month to six weeks for genre movies.
