Maleah Joi Moon has become the 101st performer to win a Tony Award for their first outing on a Broadway stage for her performance in the musical “Hell’s Kitchen.”

She won Best Actress in a Musical at the 77th Tony Awards for portraying Ali, a 17-year-old girl searching for her place in the world while living in the titular New York City neighborhood and also being restrained by her overbearing mother. She is the 10th person to win the category for her Broadway debut. She joins:

For only the third time this decade, none of the acting winners at this year’s Tony Awards did so for their Broadway debut. This is the 21st time that this has happened over the 73-year history of these top theater honors. Most of the winners were actually on the opposite end of the spectrum, winning for the first time after years of Broadway experience and several nominations to their name including André De Shields, Celia Keenan-Bolger and Stephanie J. The previous instances of Broadway debuts being shut out at the Tonys were in: 1948, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1959, 1960, 1970, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1982, 1990, 1991, 1994, 2001-2003, 2012 and 2017.

When filming began on The City of the Dead, Christopher Lee was already established as a leading horror star. Hammer was paving the way with a new brand of horror and Lee had played a huge part in their success playing the Frankenstein monster, Dracula and the Mummy. The City of the Dead provided the perfect opportunity for Lee to spread his wings further within the genre by moving into the realms of witchcraft, the occult and American gothic.

Interest has been high for Vci's new The City of the Dead, a movie...

Who doesn’t love remakes, huh? Well, for those of you who prefer Vince Vaugn to Anthony Perkins, Jackie Earle Haley to Robert Englund, and Paris Hilton to Vincent Price (no direct character correlation, so this is all I’ve got), we have exciting news for you! Horror Hotel (aka City Of The Dead), the witchy 1960 Brit chiller starring Christopher Lee, is being remade by a Welsh company called Pillay-Evans Productions, with Stephen J Evans on tap to write and direct.

Original Horror Hotel plot synopsis:

“On the recommendation of her professor (Christopher Lee), a young female student (Venetia Stevenson) travels to the fictional Massachusetts town of Whitewood to do some research intowitchcraft. She finds the town occupied by the reincarnation of an infamous witch (Patricia Jessel) burned at the stake in the 17th century; in order to sustain her immortality, virgins must be sacrificedto her every year–and this year,...

Pillay-Evans Productions and producer Adam Stephe Kelly are pairing up to remake the 1960s British horror film, The City of the Dead, or, as it was known in the U.S., Horror Hotel.

S.J. Evans (Tattoos: A Scarred History) is on board to write and direct.

“The remake of The City of the Dead will stay true to the original and concentrate on atmosphere and good old fashioned storytelling, instead of relying on gore or CGI to move the plot along," says Evans. "I grew up watching the classic Universal horrors and was inspired by how the likes of James Whale created this sense of dread and unease with just a look. I want to bring that style of filmmaking back to the big screen instead of another music video, quick-cut horror film.
