Liam Gallagher was among those chastising Boris Johnson as the former Prime Minister addressed the Privileges Committee over the Partygate scandal on Wednesday (22 March).
Over more than three hours, Johnson was grilled about whether he knew parties were being held in Downing Street during the Covid-19 pandemic.
You can follow The Independent’s Partygate live blog for updates here.
“Boris Johnson getting his fat ass handed to him on a plate who’s says the nowt on TV these days marvellous [sic],” the former Oasis frontman tweeted during the broadcasted hearing.
Gallagher has made a number of political statements in the past, last year dedicating his NME award for Music Moment of the Year to NHS workers and “all the people that give a s*** in general”.
During the hearing, Johnson attempted to justify one particular gathering for departing aid Lee Cain, claiming they “had to happen”.

Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was taken to a hospital after being assaulted inside a gym sauna in Florida, police say.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the 26-year-old Fefe Mc – real name Daniel Hernandez – said the assault involved several individuals.
A video containing graphic footage of the incident has been published by TMZ. In it, Hernandez is seen lying on the floor, defending his face as at least two assailants hit him. One of them can be heard saying: “Take a picture, I’m gonna be famous now.”
The outlet also obtained pictures of the rapper in hospital, which show cuts and bruises on his face.
In a statement to NBC News, Hernandez’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, said the rapper was attacked in the sauna by “three or four thugs who beat him up”.

Mick Hucknall has vehemently condemned former prime minister Boris Johnson for denying that he lied about partying during the Covid lockdown.
Johnson is currently facing inquiries into whether or not he misled the House of Commons in their Partygate investigation. During Wednesday’s (22 March) committee hearing, Johnson said that claims he was “partying during lockdown” were false.
In the hearing, Johnson attempted to justify one particular gathering for departing aid Lee Cain, claiming they “had to happen”.
“If anyone thinks I was partying during lockdown, they’re completely wrong,” he added.
You can follow The Independent’s live blog for updates here.
Following the comments, Simply Red musician Hucknall shared his thoughts on the Conservative politician on social media.
“While Boris Johnson was having his leaving drinks party, like millions of others, I was disallowed to say goodbye to my dying father-in-law in hospital,” he tweeted.

The Masked Singer is back on our screens, turning the nation into at-home detectives as they try to figure out who this year’s celebrity contestants are.
The singing competition series, in which celebrities compete anonymously behind giant anthropomorphic costumes, returned on New Year’s Day, with the first group of contestants all performing.
Among the group was Phoenix, who was shown in their Vt standing within a grand castle and explaining in a posh accent that “I am rather hot, aren’t I?”
“Fire” by Kasabian then played as Phoenix said that they had risen from the ashes and been “born anew” and “reincarnated”.
They also said that they were good with “mysteries” and “following a trail”, while Phoenix was shown inspecting foot prints with a magnifying glass.
Phoenix’s first performance was a jazz version of “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. While performing, they sang with an American accent.

“We need more Dollys in the world,” is the message of this raucous but hugely enjoyable comedy, which, at the same time, reminds us that there is—and can only be—one Dolly Parton. The 76-year-old country legend is having quite a moment at SXSW this year, arriving at the festival with a concert to promote her new album (and novel) Run, Rose, Run and her online Nft project Dollyverse, while riding a wave of public goodwill after her philanthropic support of the Covid vaccine with a $1 million donation.

There were great reggae bassists before him, and after, but more than any other instrumentalist, Robbie Shakespeare, in tandem with his drum partner and co-producer Sly Dunbar, defined the bass-centric approach of the genre’s modern era, from the roots-rocker sound of the Seventies to the digi-dub dancehall of the Eighties, Nineties, and beyond. His playing was so deeply grounded, its pulse felt biological, and so irresistible he became not just the go-to man for reggae musicians, but for anyone interested in seismic grooves, from Dylan and Mick Jagger to No Doubt and Simply Red.

When asked how he’s kept busy during Covid lockdown, Ron Wood doesn’t sound too bothered by the unexpected downtime. “I was out in the English countryside with my studio about a mile away,” says the Rolling Stones guitarist and painter. “I’d walk through the forest. And I did an incredible amount of artwork during that time. I really used this time to its best.”

Surviving Faces members Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, and Kenney Jones have reformed to record new songs, according to a new interview with Wood in The Times. The trio has reunited for a handful of brief live appearances in recent years, but there hasn’t been a new Faces album since 1973’s Ooh La La. A spokesperson for Stewart did not immediately respond to Rolling Stones’ request for comment.

You expect the former president’s curated playlists to be loaded with impeccably hip picks, from all over the worlds of pop, soul, jazz, rock & roll, and his 2021 Summer Playlist is no exception. He’s got vintage classics like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, he’s got cool kids like Jazmine Sullivan and Migos and Wye Oak. Prestige grooves, all the way. Well, that was totally roarsome. It was Bread Week in the Great British Bake Off tent and the showstopper round - in which the 10 remaining hopefuls had five hours to whip up a 3D bread sculpture - produced some spectacular bakes. There was the Brighton Royal Pavilion, a bicycle, a frock, a snake, a bunch of flowers and a Tracey Emin-esque unmade bed.
But best by far was the lion made out of bread. Baked by Welsh prison governor Paul Jagger - himself something of a lookalike for judge Paul Hollywood - the 'King Of The Jungle' creation left Hollywood totally gobsmacked.
"That's one of the best things I've seen on bread, ever," murmured the notoriously hard-to-please judge. "It's exceptional."

We have our housemates! 14 stupid brave celebrities walked through the doors of the Celebrity Big Brother compound tonight to face a twisted fairytale like no other.
But who are these courageous souls who have shunned spa days and champers for a dirty bath and chickpeas? And do you know any of them? Well, we've got all the details of the gang, so read on for everything you need to know...
Alexander O'Neal
Age: 61
Give me the basics. Alexander is an American R&B singer probably best known for his hit 'Criticise', which reached number four in the UK charts in 1987.
Why is he going in the house? For one thing, he likes "challenges", apparently. Also, he loves us Brits: "Britain pretty much told the rest of the world who Alexander O'Neal was before anybody really knew." (He speaks about himself in the third person quite regularly, it seems.) Gwen Stefani might still be using adjectives as adverbs — it’s “somebody like you that sings so incredibly,” not “sings so incredible,” girlfriend! — but everything else went “kablooey” on the Top 8 performance episode of The Voice.
My three favorite contestants going into the evening — Craig Wayne Boyd, Luke Wade and DaNica Shirey — delivered varying degrees of “eh,” “huh?” and “hrmm,” and in the process, made me take a second look at boarding the bandwagons of Taylor John Williams, Damien and Matt McAndrew.
Fret not, Ryan Sill is still the cheese, standing alone at the bottom of my weekly rankings, asking me to love him.

There's something about Mick Hucknall. The Simply Red frontman may not look like your stereotypical ladies' man, but he's had more than his share of dalliances over the past three decades or so. "He said, 'Sorry?', thinking I said something, and I just went 'Borrrrr'. All over him."

Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer's weekend magazine show has been airing for a year on Channel 4 and Digital Spy caught up with the duo to talk about their highlights and find out what they really think about each other.
Tim on the move to Channel 4...
"I absolutely love it. I think it's a much better fit on Channel 4. BBC Two was great, but I feel like we've moved up a bit since Something For The Weekend. It feels so natural and it reminds me of my days working on Soccer Am and The Big Breakfast. It's really, really good fun. I turn up to work every day and I love it."

Singer Mick Hucknall once pitched a musical talent show to rival 'The X Factor'. The former Simply Red singer wanted to see a TV programme made which would search for a star based on their talents rather than their looks. He said: ''I approached the BBC about a year ago with the idea of a programme. I said I wanted to find the next David Bowie, the next Freddie Mercury, the next Lennon and McCartney. ''The BBC are the people to do it because they represent British culture, they should be looking to find the next musical icon.'' However, Mick's show was...

Mick Hucknall has revealed that he attempted to launch his own TV talent show on the BBC. The Simply Red singer claims that his concept to find the next "musical icon" was rejected in favour of The Voice UK last year. Hucknall hoped to find creative artists who could be turned into global superstars in a format that was said to be different from The Voice and The X Factor. "I approached the BBC about a year ago with the idea of a programme," he told the Daily Express. "I said I wanted to find the next David Bowie, the next Freddie Mercury, the next Lennon and (more)...

James Cameron's collaboration with Cirque du Soleil promises a storyline, dancing on ribbons and a Mick Hucknall lookalike
Reading this on a mobile? Click here to view
In January, James Cameron announced he was producing a 3D Cirque du Soleil film. You may have thought this proclamation was just a cruel joke, like when he said there were going to be three more Avatar films, but apparently this is not the case. The first trailer for Cirque du Soleil – Worlds Away 3D has just been released. This is really happening.
But Cirque du Soleil – Worlds Away 3D won't just be a presentation of a regular Cirque du Soleil performance, all full of wind-chime noises and people dressed up as unicorn fairies flapping around on a ribbon. Oh no. We've been promised something more than that – it will have narrative and everything. But what story will Cirque du Soleil – Worlds Away 3D choose to tell?...

If Only Fools And Horses had started in the 21st century, it wouldn't have lasted for more than two series.
Let me explain. Back in the early 1980s, a brand new sitcom was written by John Sullivan, charting the misadventures of a wayward Peckham family, the Trotters. Three generations were spanned in a poky flat, which was part of Nelson Mandela House. The problem was that, when it first went out in 1981, the ratings were deemed to be on the low side. A second series went ahead, but even then, the ratings were not deemed world-shattering. If that had happened today, the show would have been axed quicker than you could shout “Mange Tout!” That's the price you pay for being with a ratings-hungry broadcaster, full of media-savvy trendies with buzzwords and balance sheets.
But luckily, a repeat season was to prove to be Only Fools And Horses' salvation. This time around,...

It’s not easy being a contestant on The Voice. Not only must these fledgling artists show extreme patience at getting upstaged in the midst of their critiques by chants of “I love you Adam!”/”I love you Xtina!” (possibly delivered by Adam’s and Xtina’s assistants, disguised in trench coats and sunglasses) but they also have to endure backstage interviews in the Sprint lounge conducted by a babbling ponytail attached to a stem-cell smoothie. (Sometimes that entity is referred to as a “Christina Milian.”)

Cleveland — The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony didn't miss Axl Rose at all.
The rowdy celebration, which in past years has included awkward moments, touching tributes and unforgettable performances, rocked on without Rose, the Guns N' Roses frontman who may one day regret skipping a night when 6,000 fans, 1,400 guests and many of music's biggest stars partied in Public Hall with the class of 2012.
Hard rockers Guns N' Roses – minus Rose – headlined this year's eclectic group of inductees. Others being enshrined are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, folk icon Donovan, late singer-songwriter Laura Nyro and British bands the Small Faces and Faces.
Before the ceremony started with a blistering performance by Green Day, Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis said it was strange to be enshrined while on tour.
"We're going somewhere," Kiedis said. "How can we stop and take an award when really we're just halfway there?...

Beatles fans will be up in arms after learning Paul McCartney met with an unfortunate end today.
On Twitter.
It's not the first time the Liverpool lad has fallen foul of a Twitter death hoax, and it probably won't be the last.
It's unknown how the rumour began, but we sense the Mail Online may have started the ball rolling this morning when it referred to Sir Paul as "the last surviving Beatle".
The error has since been rectified, although what Ringo made of this is anyone's guess...might the slighted drummer in fact have sown the seeds and masterminded the whole thing in retaliation?!
As well as Sir Paul, Cher, Rihanna, Mick Hucknall and Jon Bon Jovi are just some of the others who have had grossly exaggerated news of their demise splashed across the micro-blogging site.
Twitter users are getting wise to the ruse though, as these reactions reveal.

The first few minutes with Resident Evil: Revelations are actually kind of thrilling: here's a full-fledged Re game on the 3Ds with a proper story (and not simply the beefed-up Survival mode of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries), full voice acting, controls that are as close as you can get to the stop-and-pop shooting on the console, and a pretty clever use of the 3Ds' second screen.
But after an hour or so into the game—the campaign will run you about six to eight—Revelations starts to overwhelm and confine. What starts off as a visually well-crafted handheld entry in the horror series ends up becoming a repetitive mess with a seemingly endless story about bureaucratic politics and, less forgivable, a (nearly) complete lack of the undead for you to face.

Rod Stewart has indicated that he is up for reuniting with his former band Faces. The singer made the claim following the announcement of the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Asked whether he would consider joining the group for a performance at the ceremony in April, Stewart told Rolling Stone: "Oh, yeah! I'd love it. The Faces reunited and toured last year without Stewart, as the band played a headline slot at the Vintage at Goodward festival with Mick Hucknall on vocals. Questioned on whether he minded that the band toured without him, Stewart replied: "No, not at all, mate. It's something that I would want to do, but it's getting (more)...
