Disney Channel creatives are all in this together to find their new ensemble of East High Wildcats for their next “High School Musical” film. Casting is underway for a fourth installment of Disney franchise. “High School Musical 4” will introduce new East High Wildcats and their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights. “ ‘High School Musical’ is part of Disney Channel’s DNA,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, in a statement. “It embodies all that we stand for.” DGA Award nominee Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel’s “Teen Beach Movie”) is attached to direct and choreograph. Dan Berendsen (creator/executive producer of Freeform’s “Baby Daddy”), and Peter Barsocchini (writer of all three “High School Musical” movies) will write the latest project. Take heed, Wildcats! High School Musical is on its way back to the Disney Channel, after the House of Mouse officially confirmed that plans were underway to revive the dormant TV movie series.
As the first mainline installment in almost a decade, Disney is aiming for a total overhaul ahead of High School Musical 4, and it’s understood the company is already on the hunt for a new cast ahead of its planned return to East High. Details are thin on the ground for now, but it appears said newcomers will go up against the Wildcats’ cross-town rivals, the West High Knights.
Jeffrey Hornaday (Teen Beach Movie, Teen Beach 2) will direct and choreograph the revival, working from a script by Dan Berendsen and series stalwart Peter Barsocchini. In light of the announcement, Disney Channel President Gary Marsh was full of praise for the HSM brand, hinting that the new...

10 years after the first High School Musical made stars of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, High School Musical 4 is happening...
The Disney Channel is set to resurrect the High School Musical series of films, as it looks to cast a fourth movie.
The first two High School Musical films – that helped make stars out of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens – debuted on TV in the Us, with the third getting a cinema release. The last of the movies, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, was released back in 2008, but now the search is on for the cast of High School Musical 4.
This is a Disney Channel project, so it’s fair to assume this one will debut on TV as well. It’ll tell the story of the new generation of East High Wildcats, as they do battle with their rivals, the West High Knights.

Woot woot! My pick to win Best Director at the Oscars took home the Feature Film trophy at the recently concluded Directors Guild of America awards. And it's truly deserving! Cuaron defied gravity, yes pun intended, to create "Gravity," a movie grounded in sci-fi realism that many directors before him (including James Cameron) were saying that it would be hard to do. But Cuaron did it, and did it extremely well! So hats off to "Gravity" and Cuaron's direction!
Here's the complete list of winners of the DGA awards and right after the jump, check out my interview with Cuaron for "Gravity" that we conducted back in October. Oh, and take a look at my interview with the lovely Sandra Bullock as well.

Updated: Gravity does not seem to be falling on the awards circuit. Alfonso Cuarón walked away with the top honor at the Directors Guild of America Awards Saturday night in Los Angeles, beating out Martin Scorsese, David O. Russell, Paul Greengrass, and Steve McQueen.
“This is truly an honor and I am humbled by it,” Cuarón said to the audience of his peers after last year’s winner Ben Affleck presented him with the award. But Gravity was not the work of just one mind, and no one knows that more keenly than Cuarón. “Directing is about the work of your collaborators,...

Plus, Ross Lynch chimes in: Would he hop back onto Brady’s surfboard for round two?
With hot ratings (8.4 million tuned in for the premiere) and an even hotter cast (ladies love Ross Lynch), Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie is destined to spawn a sequel — if not a full-fledged High School Musical-style franchise. Though the network has not made any formal announcement about pursuing a follow-up movie, HollywoodLife.com spoke with director Jeffrey Hornaday for his thoughts on what Teen Beach Movie 2 could look like, including who could be the next big star!

It’s a been a few years since the High School Musical franchise finally came to an end, which means it’s high time Disney found a new musical movie to turn into a hot commodity. We’ve already seen high school turned into a musical, so what could we do next? How about a callback to all the classic beach-party movies of old? Nothing says “appropriate for all ages” like teenagers singing and dancing at the hot, sunny beach in nothing but their bathing suits. That’s a lot of sex appeal Disney will have to curb. Amazingly, they might have done the trick without much effort.
Disney Channel will air Teen Beach Movie at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19 with the trailer debuting Friday at midnight on Disney.com and 9 p.m. on the Disney Channel. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the telefilm will star Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell as Brady and McKenzie,...

Most modern Disney Channel movies are aimed at kids between eight and sixteen, so most of us will find their entertainment, at best, mildly amusing. Most of the time, it is loud, annoying, and obnoxious, much like tweens themselves. "Hannah Montana" will shine on.
Disney Channel has closed a deal for a fourth season of the blockbuster series starring Miley Cyrus.
Additionally, the cable channel has ordered a second season of its breakout new comedy series, "Sonny With a Chance," and has tapped Jeffrey Hornaday, choreographer of such movies as "Flashdance" and "A Chorus Line," to direct and choreograph the fourth "High School Musical" movie.
There had been questions about whether Cyrus would return to the series that made her a global star, with the teen actress-singer recently expressing her intention to continue her small-screen duties as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana for one more year.
As part of the deal, Cyrus will get a long hiatus to work on the feature "The Last Song," with production on the fourth season of "Hannah Montana" slated to begin next year. (Filming on the show's third season wraps this week.)
