British actor Henry Cavill and the late American director Joel Schumacher are both largely known for their involvement with bringing DC Comics' two most iconic characters to the big screen. Schumacher directed the infamous pair of blockbusters Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997), which, though commercially successful, were both negatively received by fans and critics for their campy treatment of the Caped Crusader, while Cavill has starred as Superman in the now-retired DC Extended Universe, beginning with Man of Steel (2013).
But, in the 16-year period between the releases of Batman & Robin and Man of Steel, Schumacher and Cavill collaborated for a film that lay completely outside the realm of comic books: the 2009 horror movie Blood Creek. The film centers on two brothers, played by Cavill and Dominic Purcell, who find themselves trapped on a West Virginia farm with a family of German-American immigrants who are holding a dark and...

Written and directed by Todd A. Kessler. The New Look is yet another brilliant series, starring famous faces like Maisie Williams and Juliette Binoche. The four years of German occupation of France in 1940 changed many political relations. After the capture of France, the citizens were forced to submit to the Nazis, and there were rebellions in many forms. During this phase, several new French designers came to light, portraying their rebellion against the Germans through their rebellious couture. Christian Dior was, however, trying to just earn a living by making the Nazis pretty ball gowns, which was opposed by other designers like Coco Chanel and Balenciaga. Will Dior be able to prove his point to his people after the country has been freed? Was he able to save Catherine from the Nazis? Let’s find out the answers to these questions in the brand new series about fashion,The New Look.

This article contains light The Zone of Interest spoilers.
Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-nominated film The Zone of Interest never once offers to hold your hand. While the film is not coy about its setting during the mind-crushing horror of the Holocaust, it demurs from telling you what to think about its images. This is a movie that dares you to merely observe, to study, and to have the courage to not look away. It doesn’t even tell you what the title The Zone of Interest is referring to—although it is obviously nothing good.
And it is that implicit evil, that unspoken insidiousness, which led to the creation of the term in the first place. Indeed, the zone of interest, or “interessengebiet,” which translates to “interest zone,” was a euphemism coined by bureaucrats in the SS to create a kind of bland, innocuous language which concealed the premeditated murder...

Harrison Ford isn’t the only actor in the Indiana Jones franchise to have played the same character five times. With his most recent outing as the hat and whip-sporting adventurer in Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny, Ford has officially retired the Indiana Jones character. However, it’s taken him 41 years to rack up 5 appearances as Indy, whereas one of his co-stars in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade succeeded in racking up a similar record in just 27 years.
One of the tensest scenes in the Indiana Jones series occurs in The Last Crusade, when Dr. Jones finds himself in the middle of a Nazi rally attended by Adolf Hitler. While Jones faces off against the Nazis multiple times throughout the franchise, this is the only moment that sees him brought face-to-face with the monster himself. Hitler stares Indy down, takes his diary containing the secrets of the holy grail,...

With the notable exception of the beloved Carrie Fisher, many of the iconic lead actors in the "Star Wars" saga are still with us. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman are all going strong, and so are the stars of the space opera's most recent episodes. Some of the actors from the original film who were already veterans at the time, like Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, died some years ago, but both enjoyed long lives beyond the average age.
Sadly, this cannot be said of numerous other actors involved in the big screen franchise and its recent TV spin-offs. Performers have died in their 70s, 60s, and 50s, many of them leaving us wishing we could have seen more years of great performances from them. Whether they had spotlight roles or were hidden behind alien masks, here are the "Star Wars" actors we lost too soon.

There are very few movie characters who ignite our imagination with as much gusto as Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, the whip-cracking, tomb- raiding archeologist with a penchant for getting into trouble, kicking Nazi ass, and getting the girl – well sometimes. But people have often wondered if he was based on, or at least inspired by, a real person. Could such an extraordinary man ever truly existed? We’re going to unearth the truth on this burning question and find out in this episode of What Really Happened to this Movie?!
It’s no secret that the Indiana Jones films have their roots in the distant past. The first film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, was the brainchild of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg; both were inspired by the swashbuckling serial films of the 30s and 40s, as well as high-concept 50s adventures like Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Secret of the Incas.

This article contains spoilers for Succession season 4 episode 2.
Logan Roy is not a good person.
Succession has made that increasingly clear through four seasons as the Scotland-born media oligarch has poisoned the American consciousness through his provocative American Television Network (Atn) while also making time to psychologically torture his four children.
Still, while Logan’s villainy is quite apparent, occasionally the series around him likes to take some time out from an episode to reiterate “no, for real. Like this dude is really bad.” The latest example comes in season 4 episode 2 “Rehearsal,” in which Logan (Brian Cox) once again interferes in his children’s lives to devastating results. Previously Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin) have all presented a united front against their father. But all it takes is one meeting with Roman to get the formerly abused child back under his father’s insidious thumb.

On November 20, 1945, in Nuremberg, Germany, once prime real estate for torchlit Nazi pageantry, currently reduced to ruins by Allied bombing, the International Military Tribunal, an unprecedented experiment in transnational jurisprudence, convened in the city’s Palace of Justice, one of the few buildings left standing. The four victorious powers — the United States, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union — had hauled the loser, Nazi Germany, before four judges and a global jury to be held accountable for violating a series of recently devised additions to the criminal code — crimes against humanity, crimes against peace, criminal conspiracy, and war crimes.
Twenty-one Nazi leaders were in the dock, defendants whose names most Americans had become familiar with in the years since 1933. The accused included Reich Marshall Herman Göring, Hitler’s brutal second in command; Joachim von Ribbentrop, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who in August 1939 negotiated the pact with the Soviet Union that ignited the conflagration; Rudolf Hess,...

Director John Sturges’ final feature is a handsome production that fumbles and stumbles in unexpected ways. Michael Caine and especially Donald Sutherland lead an impossible commando mission to kidnap Winston Churchill right from English soil. Tom Mankiewicz’s dialogue is witty but the tone is all over the place. We don’t know whether it’s the script, the direction or the editing that muffs so many potential bravura moments. On the other hand, every scene with Sutherland and Jenny Agutter is gold. [Imprint] gives us both a theatrical cut and a more satisfying extended cut.

As we look forward to Woody Harrelson taking part in Ruben Östlund’s forthcoming Triangle of Sadness, the actor has booked another promising role. He’s set to re-team with his Rampart and The Messenger director Oren Moverman for a new World War II psychological thriller, Deadline reports.
Titled The Man With The Miraculous Hands, and based on Joseph Kessel’s 2004 novel, the film will tell the story of Felix Kersten, who was the physician to Heinrich Himmler, a leading member of the Nazi Party. Kersten could alleviate Himmler’s severe stomach pains with his hands using massage and manipulation. In return, Kersten bargained with Himmler to order the release of innocent prisoners condemned to die, and ended up saving thousands of lives.

Casting the hero as an Indiana Jones-like adventurer tussling with Nazis to unearth an ancient scientific invention, visual effects wizard Takashi Yamazaki has pulled off another hit since directing “Stand By Me: Doraemon,” .
As mainstream entertainment on a par with big-budget Hollywood studio fare, the animation will have no problem breaking into the international family market. However, the unflaggingly perky caper has no down time, so one can’t help wishing for more the laid-back gamesmanship and boyish banter of the older renditions.
Kazuhiko Kato, under the pen name Monkey Punch, created his character in 1967, as the grandson of Arsene Lupin, the hero of Maurice Leblanc’s novels. He persevered with the manga series until 1991, spawning a collection that encompassed 27 TV specials,...

A rather pedestrian presentation of a potentially fascinating story, Vanessa Lapa’s “Speer Goes to Hollywood” expands on a little-known footnote to the Hydra-headed history of the post-war fates of top Nazi lieutenants. It is based on the 1972 recordings of conversations between Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect, friend and wartime munitions minister, and screenwriter Andrew Birkin (the Kubrick protegé who co-wrote “The Name of the Rose” and directed “The Cement Garden”) as they collaborate on a screenplay based on Speer’s memoir “Inside the Third Reich.” But Lapa’s embellished archival doc falls some way short of the cinephile/history lover’s catnip that tantalizing summation promises.
For one thing, here Speer does not, in fact, go to Hollywood. The conversations were recorded in the Heidelberg home where he lived following his release from prison after serving the 20-year sentence handed down at the Nuremberg trials. That Speer did not...

The British actor, who stars alongside Christian Bale in the forthcoming Vice, talks about politics, playing baddies, and doing the kids’ homework
Eddie Marsan, 50, is a prolific British character actor who has played roles as diverse as Shimon Peres, Heinrich Himmler and Bob Dylan. Born and raised in east London, he left school at 15 and apprenticed as a printer before becoming an actor. It took a decade before he started getting regular work, helped by Mike Leigh casting him in Vera Drake (2004) and as a volatile driving instructor in Happy-Go-Lucky (2008). In the Us, where he now mostly works (though he lives in Chiswick), he is best known for his role as Terry, an ex-boxer with Parkinson’s, in the Showtime series Ray Donovan. For his latest film Vice, exploring Dick Cheney’s insidious role in the last Bush administration, Marsan plays deputy secretary of defence, Paul Wolfowitz.

Triumph of the Will
Written by Leni Riefenstahl, Walter Ruttmann, Eberhard Taubert
Directed by Leni Riefenstahl
Germany, 1935
It is never easy to look at Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will as anything other than what Dr. Anthony Santoro quite rightly calls a “supreme propaganda film.” As that, it is nearly unparalleled in the dubious annals of film history. Contributing to its difficulty in terms of analysis, however, is the fact that it is, at the same time, more than simply a notorious document of evil in bloom. For all the troublesome features that recurrently arise through the course of this film—the domineering presence of Adolf Hitler being just one obvious example—this is one remarkably well-crafted motion picture. Its status as the ultimate work of cinematic propaganda is, indeed, a direct result of just how superbly powerful, sadly persuasive, and expertly realized the documentary is, for better or worse.

Von Trapp Hotel Plans Upset Salzburg Locals

Residents of Salzburg, Austria are fighting plans to turn the villa that once housed the real-life Von Trapp family into a hotel.
The estate of Baron Georg von Trapp recently became a tourism mecca after fans of movie musical The Sound of Music realised the home, which did not feature in the 1965 hit, was the real retreat of the nobleman, played by Christopher Plummer in the film.
And now a developer plans to turn the famous mansion into a 14-room hotel, museum and wedding chapel.
Manfred Schitter, who heads up a residents' association opposed to the hotel plans, fears tourist buses and visitors will ruin life in Salzburg as more and more people learn about the von Trapp mansion.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "The villa was a Sleeping Beauty and should remain a Sleeping Beauty."
The residents have handed over a 600-name petition to the town's mayor, hoping to block the hotel, which is set to open on 25 July.
Local historian Ines Eberi admits she has a problem with the mansion's dark past - it was once occupied by Nazi officer Heinrich Himmler - and doesn't think holding parties and weddings there will be fitting.
She says, "I find this a political issue to celebrate parties in it or to organise attractions there."...
