Futurestates, the public broadcasting web series that "imagines America's tomorrow today," launched its second season featuring 10 new episodes. The sci-fi series, funded by The Independent Television Service, is a collection of "short narrative films created by veteran filmmakers and emerging talents transforming today’s complex social issues into visions about what life will be like in decades to come." Debuting at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, the second season of Futurestates promises 10 filmmakers' visions of America in the not-too-distant future: what we'll do, where we'll live, and who we'll be. The lineup: Beholder by Nisha Ganatra Sasha A resident of the socially conservative gated community Red Estates, makes a discovery about her genetically engineered unborn child that causes her to rethink her allegiances. Remigration by Barry Jenkins In a future San Francisco that is entirely upper-class, the city starts a program to bring working-class families back to the city that pushed them out.

Directors: Nisha Ganatra, Barry Jenkins, Kimi Takesue, Robby Henson, Bennett Cohen, A. Sayeeda Clarke One of the biggest surprises for me during SXSW 2010 was the Futurestates: Season 1 program. In my opinion, the Futurestates: Season 1 shorts are the epitome of great science fiction -- inventive, futuristic narratives with strong social-political messages concerning our modern world -- so it is with much excitement that I report that SXSW 2011 will feature six episodes from Futurestates: Season 2. Similar to season one, this year’s selection of Futurestates shorts visualize various possible futures for American society which include one or a combination of the following: environmental degradation, political polarization (and apathetic masses), over-reliance on new technologies, and globalization. Beholder Director Nisha Ganatra’s America exists within “safe” and “perfect” bubble of the socially conservative gated community Red Estates. Sasha (Jessica Pare) and her husband, Bobby (Rupak Ginn), are in the middle of a genetically engineered pregnancy.

Scores: Technical: 95, Story: 84, Acting: 89, Overall: 94 I started watching House with no expectations. I didn’t really hear anything about it beforehand, so, I just thought: Great, another sub-par horror movie that I’ll be able to pick apart and forget about the next day. Boy, was I wrong. Jack and Stephanie are on their way to a marriage counseling session in the middle of Alabama(odd?) when they get diverted down a desolate road by a just creepy enough cop. We have three clips in from Lionsgate's "House" on DVD today! Starring Michael Madsen, Leslie Easterbrook, Bill Moseley, Lew Temple and Julie Ann Emery. Robby Henson ("Th3e," "The Visitation") helms the film from the screenplay by Rob Green based on the novel written by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. What we said about the film: Quick: When I say "Christian movie" what's the first thing that comes to mind? Cheesy? Preachy? Low budget? Kirk Cameron? When I heard that Namesake Entertainment was making a movie based on the best selling novel House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, and that it was being directed by Robby Henson, who adapted Dekker's book Thr3e for the screen, my first thought was, "How cheesy is this going to be?" After straying off the main road, they find themselves lost on a backwoods road in Alabama when they come upon an accident. After getting directions from a very creepy cop, they come to a crossroads where, at high speed and bickering all the way, they decide to veer of their route and head home. And then it happens. House, directed by Robby Henson and based on the popular novel by Christian-lit authors Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, arrives April 7. The DVD will present the movie, in which the Rejects trio play a bizarre family who terrorize two couples who stumble upon their remote bed and breakfast, in widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound; special features, if any, have yet to be announced. Sam’S Lake, Andrew Christopher Erin’s chiller about a group of vacationing friends terrorized by a murderous local legend come to life (see previous item here), arrives April 21, with a widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and no bonus material yet revealed.

No, we are not talking about a re-release of the stellar William Katt flick from the Eighties. This is a whole new hellish home ... one in which the power of Christ will indeed compel you!
Lionsgate released the DVD artwork for their April 7th release of Robby Henson's religious themed horror flick House starring Julie Ann Emery, Michael Madsen, Leslie Easterbrook, Bill Moseley, and Lew Temple. Which kind of makes me ask the question -- Is it possible to cast only one person from The Devil's Rejects, or do they have to be cast as a set? Hmm. Check out the artwork (with Moseley's name spelled wrong) and the synopsis below:
"On a deserted back road in Alabama, Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight.

"The Alphabet Killer"
Eliza Dushku reunites with "Wrong Turn" director Rob Schmidt for this supernatural riff on the infamous Alphabet murders that took place in Rochester, NY in the early '70s. Dushku stars as the lead investigator in a series of brutal child killings who's struck down by a severe mental breakdown. Two years later, her career as a detective is ostensibly over, yet when the killings inexplicably start up again, so do her crippling hallucinations and she must find a way to track down the serial killer with or without the help of her former colleagues at the police department. When I heard that Namesake Entertainment was making a movie based on the best selling novel House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, and that it was being directed by Robby Henson, who adapted Dekker's book Thr3e for the screen, my first thought was, "How cheesy is this going to be?" I saw the film "Thr3e," and trust me, to call it ridiculous would be a compliment. For the most part, films made by or for Christians usually highlight the low production budget and actors picked for their faith more than their talent (hence the Christian film industry's love affair with casting Kirk Cameron in leads). They focus more on the evangelical message they want to drive home rather than a cohesive story that lets the viewer realize the point on their own. Well, I'm happy - thrilled, surprised, overjoyed - to tell you that "House" is not like a Christian movie in any way.

I know Robby Henson's upcoming horror flick House has been on people's minds for a while now but, until I saw the trailer this morning, I wasn't sure if it was going to be quite my cup of tea. The trailer starts out kind of slowly and is reminiscent of so many films I've seen recently I almost turned it off but, when it kicked in, it was obvious that there was something special going on. Granted the plot is like Vacancy meets Saw, but the weird "I killed God" angle kind of sucked me in. I guess it's based on a novel by Ted Dekker, but I haven't read it so I can't comment on its merits. Here's hoping House will be a nice surprise for those of us looking for a fresh take on the genre. Trailer and full synopsis after the break.

It seems there are more movies coming out this Halloween season that I’ve not heard hide nor hair of before. All off a sudden they have posters, trailers, interactive games, etc. Am I just unobservant or are these movies creeping up on us?
The latest example is Robby Henson’s House, based on the novel by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. The film goes down in rural Alabama, where two couples being chased by a maniacal killer who calls himself The Tin Man have holed up in a house, in which they soon find themselves trapped. The Tin Man tells them that the only way they can get out is if they kill one of the four, if they haven’t done so by sunrise, all of them will die.
Dekker and Peretti are both religious writers, so expect that House is going to have a pretty thick element of good vs.

Billy Bob's Film Saved by Cable Film Channel
The film Billy Bob Thornton feared he'd never see has been saved from oblivion by an American film channel. Movie executives turned their backs on The Badge because it was so similar to Thornton's acclaimed role in Monster's Ball. In both, the actor plays a smalltown law man coming to terms with his own bigotry. Director Robby Henson feared his second feature would become a straight-to- video disaster after production company Propaganda Films went bankrupt during post-production and other companies refused to take on the project. But cable channel Starz came to the rescue of the star-studded film, which also features Patricia Arquette, William Devane and Jena Malone, and they plan to air it as a special feature this coming weekend. Henson says, "Everyone is delighted. This is a good film with great performances. It was kind of orphaned for a while and then Starz stepped in and they've been very good for the film."...
