There is no denying that the Ben Affleck starrer Zack Snyder’s Justice League is more than a film. It is a piece of Snyder’s cinematic vision and the power of fan support. The project showcases the 300 director’s dark atmospheric environment integrated with CGI, and delving deep into the backstories of each character helped in a richer character development.

However, it looks like the 2021 film did not do its homework because it turns out Snyder might have copied one of the scenes in his films from Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Fans are anything but pleased because not only did the film copy Nolan’s aesthetics but also hailed it as his own cinematic masterpiece.

While donning the supercool Batsuit and appearing as the Caped Crusader is almost every guy’s dream come true, Christian Bale begged to differ, especially after his firsthand experience. But unlike his predecessors, the English actor turned adversity into art.

British filmmaker Peter Chelsom became obsessed with photography at the age of 13 after his father gifted him a Kodak Retinette 1B camera for his birthday. “Suddenly everything became photography,” says the veteran director of films like 2001’s Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale and the 2004 Jennifer Lopez-starrer Shall We Dance. “I was obsessed with it. And that’s why I became a filmmaker.”

“Wonka” will make its streaming debut exclusively on Max on Friday, March 8, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Friday.

The family film co-stars Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
“Wonka” has surpassed $600 million at the global box office, on an estimated $125 million budget. The film is director Paul King’s highest-grossing film, surpassing 2014’s “Paddington” and its 2017 sequel. It is Chalamet’s biggest movie at the international box office, although Warner Bros.’s “Dune: Part Two,” which opens March 1, could surpass “Wonka.”

Paul King's 2023 musical "Wonka" served as a prequel to Mel Stuart's 1971 film "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," more than as an origin story extrapolated from Roald Dahl's 1964 novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." "Wonka" employed the same costumes, musical themes, and characters from Stuart's film, but suffused them with color, whimsy, and lightheartedness that was absent from Stuart's film. "Wonka," like the magical confections constructed by the titular chocolatey alchemist, is a fizzy, sweet delight. Despite being born of nostalgia-grabbing cynicism (recall how over-marketed Stuart's film has been to the world's jaded Gen-Xers), director King managed to build an enjoyable, featherweight romp set in a delightful world of powdery sugars and hidden romance. It's no wonder that "Wonka" has earned over half a billion dollars worldwide.

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” garnered 13 nominations each including best picture, tied for the second most for movies. Rounding out the best picture category are Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” Blitz Bazawule’s “The Color Purple,” Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Celine Song’s “Past Lives” and a surprising nom for Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn.

You might not be able to tell it from the trailers but Wonka, the latest movie inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic 1964 children’s story “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is, make no mistake about it, a full-on movie musical that I found to be more in the tradition of ’60s-era films like Oliver, Dr. Dolittle, Albert Finney’s Scrooge — basically a throwback to that kind of feel-good musical confection designed to be released during the year’s end.
Unlike 1971’s beloved (but not a hit initially) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder, or Tim Burton’s darker 2005 take Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp, this version directed Paul King and co-written by King and Simon Farnaby is an origin story of how Willy Wonka came to be Wonka, the magician, inventor and chocolate maker extraordinaire. Both previous films certainly have their legions of fans,...

Warner Bros. Pictures’ second Wonka trailer features Willy meeting his first Oompa Loompa, showing off wacky inventions, and then running into trouble when his candy wows chocolate-lovers. The gorgeous, nearly three-minute trailer reveals new footage but primarily focuses on the relationship between Wonka (Timothee Chalamet) and Lofty the Oompa Loompa (Hugh Grant).

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, it’s best to pick a project for which you can create frilly dresses from a bygone era. Since its introduction at the 1948 Academy Awards, this category has favored period pictures, including the 2021 winner “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Voters love to reward the creative forces behind such films, especially those that are about the aristocracy including recent champs “Marie Antoinette” (2007), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2008), “The Duchess” (2009), “The Young Victoria” (2010), and “Anna Karenina” (2013). (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2023 Oscars Best Costume Design predictions.)

Here’s a first look at the brand new trailer for Wonka, hitting cinemas on December 15.
Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
From Paul King, writer/director of the “Paddington” films, David Heyman, producer of “Harry Potter,” “Gravity,” “Fantastic Beasts” and “Paddington,” and producers Alexandra Derbyshire and Luke Kelly (“Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor. For a movie with iconic nude scenes, the costumes of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) are just as memorable and titillating. It’s fitting that the Oscars honored the incredible work of costume designers Ann Roth and Gary Jones for the film, which should’ve shown up in more categories than the five it was nominated for. Though the actual Oscar went to Lindy Hemming’s period-specific and gloriously gaudy work in Topsy-Turvy, we’re still cheering on the sidelines for Ripley.

After debuting the first footage from Paul King’s Wonka at CinemaCon last year, Warner Bros showed off an extended trailer today for the Christmas 2023 release. The origins story stars Timothée Chalamet as the titular candymeister, who lands in a mid-European city (the pic was shot in London) after traveling the world perfecting his craft. “I’m something of a magician, inventor and chocolate maker,” he says.
His goal is to open a chocolate shop. But Willy Wonka soon learns he must battle some pretty sinister characters. He’s told, “Many people have come here to sell chocolate and been crushed by the chocolate cartel.”

This Wonka, as Chalamet told the CinemaCon audience in Las Vegas today, “is full of joy and optimism.” In the trailer, he is undeterred and says, “Mark my words, this is going to be the greatest chocolate shop the world has ever seen.

With the upcoming release of Rian Johnson's "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," there's no better time to discuss Daniel Craig's acting career. He was so magnetic in "Knives Out" that fans all but demanded a sequel -- leading Netflix to greenlight two Knives Out films for 400 million. Even before he (arguably) became the 21st century's preeminent James Bond, Craig had several impressive performances. Despite taking on the daunting role of 007, he escaped typecasting by continuously working with great material, directors, and castmates.
Craig's work -- especially post-"Casino Royale" -- generally falls into two categories: stoic and livewire. Over the years, he's played complicated heroes, despicable villains, and the occasional comic relief role. He's also been kicking around longer than you may think. Do you remember him as an evil German solider in "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" or as Master Kane alongside a young Kate Winslet...

Before being portrayed by Tom Hardy in "The Dark Knight Rises," the only other live-action Bane that existed was the cartoonish version that appears in "Batman & Robin." There's always been a fine line between cool and cheesy when it comes to adapting comic book costumes to the big screen. Luckily, the next time Bane appeared to face his nemesis, it wouldn't be looking like a luchador who mistakenly wandered in front of the camera. For the big screen revival of the character, Christopher Nolan relied on two of his defining characteristics: his immense physical strength and fear-inspiring mask.
But the director would also change key pieces of Bane's backstory to fit into the narrative world of his Batman trilogy, much of which is not directly mentioned in the plot of "The Dark Knight Rises." By the end of the film, plenty of what the audience knows about the villain's...

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” got a big boost in its Oscar bid for Best Costume Design with a win on April 13 at the Costume Designers Guild Awards. It prevailed in the period design race over two of its Oscar rivals — “Emma” and “Mank” — plus “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “One Night in Miami.”
Its closest Oscar competition could be “Mulan,” which won the fantasy/sci-fi prize at the CDG Awards on Tuesday; the fifth Oscar nominee, “Pinocchio,” was not in contention here. The other CDG winner was the contemporary film “Promising Young Woman.
In its 22-year history, the CDG has previewed only 10 of the Oscar winners for Best Costume Design; seven of these have been period pictures and three have been sci-fi or fantasy flicks. Four of our five predicted nominees for Best Costume Design at the Oscars reaped bids on March 4 for the Costume Designers Guild Awards. “Emma,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Mank” contend here in the period picture category against “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “One Night in Miami.” Another likely Oscar contender, “Mulan,” vies here in the sci-fi/fantasy race against “Dolittle,” “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey,” “Pinocchio” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”
Our fifth Oscar nominee, “News of the World,” can take heart that the guild often overlook films that go on to contend at the Academy Awards. Indeed last year’s Oscar winner for Best Costume Design, “Little Women,” was snubbed by the CDG as were two of the other nominees, “The Irishman” and “Joker.” The guild honored one of the other academy nominees, “Jojo Rabbit.”

When “Wonder Woman” costume designer Lindy Hemming heard that the follow-up to the 2017 box-office hit starring Gal Gadot was going to be set in 1984, her first question was would the costumes fall under period or fantasy?
The answer is a simple one, “both,” Hemming says.
Below, Hemming breaks down key looks from “Wonder Woman 84” and creating an ’80s wardrobe for Chris Pine, Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig.
Wonder Woman’s New Armor
In the first film, Diana/Wonder Woman was down and dirty because she was in the trenches. With this, director Patty Jenkins wanted to change the texture and look to give it a glowing ’80s feel.
We changed the material of her bodice and made it from urethane which can be molded. We changed the design a little bit so it’s more translucent because Patty wanted everything to have this slightly hyperreal feel to it, so you...

This article contains Wonder Woman 1984 spoilers. Our spoiler free review can be found here.
Wonder Woman 1984 has brought its message on the importance of truth onto screens worldwide. With retro stylings and a Hans Zimmer score, the second installment in Diana Prince’s story shows a more mature Amazonian who has adapted to man’s world and her solitary life, developing her skills as a superhero and her ability to keep out of the limelight.
Wonder Woman 1984 takes place well before the introduction of the other heroes of the Dceu and largely exists as a standalone film. However, there are still plenty of references to Diana Prince’s own history across the comics, small screen, and previous films.
We’ve used all the wisdom of Athena to chronicle as many Easter eggs as we can spot, but as always, if we’ve missed anything, do let us know in the comments.

A floppy-haired con artist, known for his TV presence in which he pretends to be a successful businessman, gets his hands on the ultimate power, and then when he proves incapable of wielding it, he’d rather destroy the world than acknowledge his own petty inadequacies. It’s a wild fantasy scenario, to be certain, but it provides the satirical underpinnings for “Wonder Woman 1984” to mock the rapacious greed of the Reagan era and its ongoing reverberations into the 21st century.
The film’s wickedly pungent social satire must occasionally step aside for superheroics, of course. And while the reteaming of Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins provides the expected thrills and excitement, this sequel shares the significant flaw of its predecessor: Both films graft an unwieldy and effects-heavy finale onto a movie that had managed to create relatable characters and situations, even when both are larger than life. Jenkins...

#WonderWoman1984 is spectacularly fun. A blockbuster with lots to value. Tonally reminiscent of the Superman movies in the best spots. Delivers a different kind of empowering kick than the original. Sentiments & themes are thoroughly enriching. Action sequences, sublime. pic.twitter.com/QFwbbFRieX
