Time Travel is Dangerous centers around friends Ruth and Megan who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble across a time machine, it occurs to them that stock is much cheaper if they ‘borrow’ from the past – well, it’s free. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice Victorian lamp or an authentic 80s bum bag without getting sucked into the hellish time-space vortex that is “the Unreason”. The thing is, Time Travel Is Dangerous.
The movie stars Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson, Mark Heap, Brian Bovell, Tony Way, Guy Henry, Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Laura Aikman, Kiell Smith-Bynoe and is narrated by Stephen Fry.

As films like The Terminator, The Time Machine, Looper, Edge of Tomorrow, Back to the Future 2 and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 have proven, going backwards and forwards across history or into the far future can be perilous to both personal and universal health. But it has taken until now for a movie to say it out loud, and that movie is the brilliant British comedy Sci-Fi usurpingly titled Time Travel is Dangerous.
The set up is simple enough and starts when two friends Ruth and Megan find a time travel machine by the bins behind their vintage shop in Muswell Hill. The scientific marvel, which is actually a modified dodgem, takes them on jaunts across history where they pilfer anything they can from the bemused locals of the past to sell in their shop. Seemingly onto a great thing the pals are oblivious not only to how the time...

Time Travel Is Dangerous is about to become your new favourite British sci-fi comedy blending mockumentary stylings with surreal, low-budget charm. Directed by Chris Reading and co-written with Anna-Elizabeth and Hillary Shakespeare, the latter two of those names, are no strangers to this reviewer.
Time Travel Is Dangerous stars Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson as fictionalized versions of themselves, running a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. The premise is delightfully absurd: the duo stumbles upon a discarded fairground dodgem that just so happens also to be a time machine, which they use to “borrow” historical artefacts to sell in their shop, as time travel movies have told us in the past though this has catastrophic consequences due to...

Time loops, Victorian lamps, and a dangerously unpredictable time machine take centre stage at an exclusive gala screening of Time Travel Is Dangerous at Everyman Muswell Hill on 27th March. The sci-fi comedy, which explores the perils of ‘borrowing’ from history, will be celebrated with a special event featuring a Q&a with the cast and filmmakers, followed by a post-screening drinks reception in the main foyer.
The film follows best friends Ruth and Megan, who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble upon a time machine, their business takes an unexpected turn as they decide to “source” their stock directly from the past. "I guess we were just messing about..." Shakespeare Sisters & Candr Pictures revealed the full trailer for a UK indie sci-fi comedy titled Time Travel Is Dangerous, opening in UK art house theaters this March. This premiered at a few film festivals last year, including at the 2024 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. Time Travel Is Dangerous is a quintessentially British comedy, blending witty dialogue, quirky characters and a touch of the absurd with a heartwarming core. Best friends Ruth and Megan run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill, North London. Stumbling across a time machine, they embark on trips to the past to stock their shop with no idea of the irreparable damage that they're causing to the fabric of the universe. They don't want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice lamp... without getting sucked into the hellish time / space vortex that is the Unreason.

A time machine is Muswell Hill? Time Travel Is Dangerous lands a March release in the UK, and there’s a trailer for it here too.
Popping up on our list of films we’re really keen to see this year is the British production Time Travel Is Dangerous. Directed by Chris Reading, who penned the script with Anna Elizabeth Shakespeare and Hillary Shakespeare, it’s a comedy headlined by Sophie Thompson, Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks, Mark Heap and Tony Way, with Stephen Fry narrating.
It’s a mockumentary, with a time machine ending up in the hands of, well, two people it’s best not to give a time machine to. A concept that the film appears to be having an awful lot of fun with.
The film debuted at festivals in 2024, and it’s lovely to see it getting a UK cinema release, courtesy of Jade Films. I...

Despite the drama on his other series, Apple TV+'s The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin, Noel Fielding will return to host The Great British Bake-Off. In a new statement, the actor and host's spokesperson insisted that, despite the rumor mill churning out worry given the cancelation of Dick Turpin, Fielding "will be returning" to host the popular reality series.
Fielding's spokesperson has since issued the following statement (which we first encountered via Deadline):
There has been absolutely no discussion about Noel stepping down from 'Bake Off.' We have been in contact with Channel 4 and Love Productions throughout all the speculation and his ‘stepping down’ has never been part of that dialogue. We can confirm he will be returning to co-host the next series of 'Bake Off.'

The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin was Apple TV+’s high jinks vehicle for the very best of British comedy talent, but there’s nothing whimsical about the series coming to a clattering halt this week.
Production has ceased on Season 2 of the Big Talk Studios series about an 18th-century highway robber, putting a cast and crew of hundreds out of work with nothing to show for their efforts. Filmed footage cannot be fashioned into a scaled-back season and there is no hope of getting the show back on the road, according to three sources familiar with Dick Turpin’s demise.
At the center of this highly unusual situation is Noel Fielding, the comedy’s titular character, who is also known to American viewers as the co-host of The Great British Baking Show. The star, who shot to fame in surrealist noughties comedy The Mighty Boosh, failed to return...

Apple TV+‘s comedy The Completely Made–Up Adventures of Dick Turpin will not return.
The show has ceased production on series two, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday. British tabloid The Sun first reported the news, adding that titular star Noel Fielding — well known among U.S. audiences as a co-host of The Great British Baking Show — pulled out three-quarters of the way through the shoot.
Filming started on a second series in the autumn, the tabloid said, but 51-year-old Fielding did not return after the Holidays. The cast and crew have now been stood down. Though THR has been unable to confirm the report, Fielding’s team has been contacted for comment.
Written by Fielding, Richard Naylor and Jon Brittain, the series followed the contemptuous life of the 18th-century highwayman, known in York, England, as a thief, poacher and killer but whose exploits have been widely romanticized in modern culture.

Apple TV+’s comedy series “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin” has stopped production because the main actor, Noel Fielding, left the show before completing a quarter of its second season. Big Talk Studios had to stop production early because the series could not continue without its lead star.
The shutdown happened after the 2024 holiday season because Fielding did not return to the set in early 2025. Apple TV+, Big Talk Studios, and Fielding’s team at Pbj Management have not explained why he left.
The comedy series featured Fielding as Dick Turpin, a surprising 18th-century highway robber who used his charm more than his taking abilities. The show’s first season had popular British comedians like Ellie White, Dolly Wells, Mark Heap, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, and Michael Fielding.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin is no more.
Season 2 of the Apple TV+ comedy has been shut down after Noel Fielding pulled out around three-quarters of the way through the shoot.
The Sun newspaper first reported on Dick Turpin’s demise. Deadline understands that Season 2 cannot be salvaged and that producer Big Talk Studios has disbanded the cast and crew.
The Sun reported that Fielding “failed to come to work” at the start of 2025 after the series paused for the Christmas holiday.
Apple, Big Talk, and Fielding’s rep at Pbj Management have been contacted for comment.
In the irreverent retelling of the 18th-century highwayman’s life, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship, and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavors, including a brush with celebrity.

Charlie Cox is undoubtedly best known for playing Matt Murdock, the blind vigilante patrolling the streets of Hell's Kitchen (not the Gordon Ramsay restaurant), New York, as Daredevil, in the appropriately titled hit series, Daredevil. Cox is set to return as Daredevil, this time with his own series in the MCU, when Daredevil: Born Again premieres this March. But, years before he wore Murdock's red suit, Cox was best known for leading a cult-classic adaptation of a beloved fantasy novel. Stardust, based on the eponymous novel by the disgraced author, Neil Gaiman, featured an all-star cast, with Cox front and center, and it's found a new streaming home.
Stardust is now streaming on Paramount+. Released in 2007 and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Stardust is a fantasy romance film following Tristan (Cox), who promises to the love of his life, Victoria (Sienna Miller), that he'll retrieve a fallen star from the magical kingdom of Stormhold.

At FrightFest Halloween, we caught up with director Chris Reading to discuss Time Travel Is Dangerous, which received its UK premiere at the event. Reading previously directed Somnus and the Alien Anniversary short film titled Alien: Containment, and he wrote the script for Time Travel Is Dangerous alongside Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare and Hillary Shakespeare.
Time Travel Is Dangerous focuses on the real-life antique shop known as Cha-Cha-Cha in Muswell Hill, with the two women who run the shop discovering a time machine which allows them to retrieve priceless items from the past. However, their meddling in past events soon leads to disastrous consequences, as they unwillingly disrupt the fabric of the universe and open a gateway to a sinister reality which could harm everything they hold dear. The film stars the real-life owners of the shop, Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson as themselves, with the supporting cast including Sophie Thompson, Guy Henry,...

Those who enjoyed the historical fantasy, humor, and alternative history elements of My Lady Jane, may enjoy these other series. Renegade Nell was an historical fantasy series about a young woman framed for murder who goes on an epic adventure. Belgravia: The Next Chapter included a major actor from My Lady Jane to fill the gap left by the show.
My Lady Jane was an excellent historical fantasy series that has left plenty of viewers craving more shows that showcased a similar style, addressed the same themes, or combined humor and history in such a compelling way. With an extraordinary lead performance from Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey, this period series reimagined the story of the Nine Days Queen as a magical tale featuring a world where some can take the form of animals. Adapted from a novel by Jodi Meadows, this Amazon Prime series brought to mind several other acclaimed TV shows.

Apple TV+ has given the green light to a second season of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, the comedy-adventure series starring Noel Fielding as a legendary British highwayman. The series debuted globally on Friday, March 1, 2024.
In the six-episode series, Dick Turpin (Fielding) sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville).
In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mainly by his charm, showmanship, and great hair.
