Netflix released the official trailer for “Twilight of the Gods,“ Zack Snyder’s 2D adult animated series about the clash between Norse gods and mortals (premiering September 19). The mythic tale of vengeance and power unfurls amidst an abundance of choreographic violence and gore.
It’s a tragic love story that begins with badass warrior Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks) heroically saving the life of mortal king Leif (Stuart Martin) — in slow-mo, of course, with beautiful streaks of blood. But their wedding day is destroyed by Thor (Pilou Asbæk), who slaughters her family, sending Sigrid on a vengeful rampage. With Leif by her side, she forms a band of rebels to kill Thor, with the support of Paterson Loki (Paterson Joseph), who wants to take over the world of the gods.
With gorgeous animation from Xilam Animation, Snyder explores a range of graphic styles culled from comics and anime. It’s like a...

Norse gods and mortals clash in all their bloody glory in Zack Snyder’s 2D adult animated series, “Twilight of the Gods,” premiering on Netflix September 19. The streamer has released a red band teaser trailer that revels deliciously in all of the graphic gore.
The hardcore action-adventure, which looks like a cross between “300” and Cartoon Saloon’s “Wolfwalkers” on acid, is set against a love story between badass warrior Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks) and mortal king Leif (Stuart Martin), whom she saves on the battlefield. However, their wedding day is tragically destroyed by Thor (Pilou Asbæk), causing Sigrid to go on a vengeful rampage.
The series (from The Stone Quarry and Xilam Animation) is co-created by Snyder, Jay Oliva, and Eric Carrasco, with Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Oliva executive producing. Snyder, Oliva, Tim Divar, Andrew Tamandl, and David Hartman direct the eight episodes.
The voice cast also includes Rahul Kohli as Egill,...

Back to the 1980s with Muhammad Ali, reminds us of the time when the former world heavyweight boxing champion appeared on Good Morning America and put David Hartman in a tricky spot. Well, it happened somewhat this way, after the host welcomed Ali on the show following his fight with Larry Holmes and informed him about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s appearance as the second guest.

In a humorous bit, Muhammad Ali almost made the show host David Hartman question his pronunciation, after pretending to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger’s name as a slang. Ahead of the star’s appearance on the show, Ali took advantage of the situation to showcase his quick wit and make his audience crack laughing.

45 years ago, writer/director Don Coscarelli delivered one of the best horror films ever made: Phantasm, a film which spawned three sequels that Coscarelli wrote and directed himself, then a fourth that he wrote with director David Hartman. Earlier this year, we learned that Coscarelli would be celebrating the 45th anniversary of Phantasm by expanding the franchise with a book called Phiction: Tales from the World of Phantasm, which was initially only available as a limited edition hardcover. Now paperback and Kindle editions of Phiction are available as well, and you can pick up a copy on Amazon!
With a page count of 171, Phiction contains the following six stories:
· In Life and Death in the ‘Nam, we explore the origin story of our favorite ice cream vendor hero Reggie and his first encounter with the supernatural forces of evil in the jungles of the Vietnam war. It’s a two-fisted...

Don Coscarelli perhaps does not get enough credit for crafting one of horror's most enduring franchises with "Phantasm." Dating back to the sleeper hit from 1979 that introduced audiences to Angus Scrimm's The Tall Man, the series pressed on for five films that premiered periodically all the way through 2016. Coscarelli directed the first four entries personally before handing the reins over to David Hartman for "Ravager". A segment in "V/H/S/99" even paid homage to "Phantasm." Not many franchises can say they got to five movies across nearly four decades.
But what of those who have never taken the plunge into this delightfully strange universe? What of those genre fans who are interested in seeing what Coscarelli dedicated so much of his life to? We're here to make it easy for you to do just that by providing the correct viewing order for the "Phantasm" movies, as well as...

Paramount+ has unveiled the first six episodes of Ark: The Animated Series, which are now streaming on the service as of today. But the first season won’t be limited to just this batch, as a second part to the season will host seven more episodes, although the release date for those has yet to be announced.
While I haven’t played the source video game (Ark: Survival Evolved), the voice cast for Ark: The Animated Series definitely piques interest, as it hosts Oscar winners, fan favorites and even Doctors…The partial cast list includes Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Wright, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and more.
While that is a seriously impressive cast, perhaps the biggest draw for some is that Ark will be scored by the game’s composer Gareth Coker, who also provided the gorgeous music for Ori and...

The Phantasm family is back together again for the new brand new music video “Cheyenne,” which comes courtesy of Phantasm star Bill Thornbury and his band Remington Ridge.
Bill Thornbury played Jody in the original horror classic from 1979, a role he reprised for Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, Phantasm IV: Oblivion, and Phantasm: Ravager.
Of particular note for Phantasm fans, the music video for “Cheyenne” was directed by franchise creator Don Coscarelli and David Hartman, who directed Phantasm: Ravager.
Coscarelli tweets this afternoon, “Many people might remember Bill’s absolute banger of a song from the original Phantasm that he wrote and performed with Reggie Bannister in our film Phantasm… ‘Sitting’ Here At Midnight’! ‘Cheyenne’ is an emotional, rootsy country ballad, telling tales of lost love and fading sunset dreams.”

Bill Geddie, a legendary TV-news producer who was behind many of Barbara Walters’ most notable efforts, including the long-running ABC daytime show “The View,” has died of coronary-related factors, his family told Variety. He was 68.
“He was a big deal in TV, but at home he was an even ‘bigger than life’ husband and dad,” said Geddie’s family in a statement. “He had a genuine love for television and entertainment. He would try everything and did it well — screenwriting, recording podcasts, playing guitar, writing songs, and loved a wide range of music from country to jazz. His favorite band was The Beatles, and he never thought he would have the opportunity to meet one of his personal heroes Paul McCartney in person, but his dream came true. The question wasn’t who did he meet, but rather who didn’t he meet?”

Before becoming one of the most divisive filmmakers in horror with the likes of Halloween and The Munsters, Rob Zombie was just a musician trying his hand at the film industry. House of 1000 Corpses came together fairly quickly following a failed attempt to reboot The Crow, but the rock star’s Hollywood career almost never was due to post-production controversy that left his directorial debut on the shelf for three years.
Production on Corpses was completed in 2000 before Universal Studios refused to release it due to its objectionable content. MGM later came on board to distribute it in 2002 until a tongue-in-cheek remark by Zombie caused them to cancel the deal. Finally, Lions Gate signed on and released it in April of 2003, launching Zombie’s film career as well as a franchise that would be followed by 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and 2019’s 3 from Hell.

I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. If you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me at any time at [email protected].

Imagine a new big screen version of the infamous Boston Strangler case, filmed in . . . Cleveland. Or an organized crime thriller based in America’s top fishing port, New Bedford, Mass., shot on location in . . . Halifax.
Both of these scenarios nearly happened. But thanks to passionate filmmakers and state tax credits, moviegoers will get to see a serial killer and more “Coda”-style fishermen in their natural habitat: Massachusetts.
Not since the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock have so many impactful visitors descended on the state. In addition to 20th Century’s “Boston Strangler” and Paramount+’s 28 million thriller “Finestkind,” two Marvel blockbusters (Disney’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff “Madame Web”), director-star Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro,” the Zendaya-toplined tennis drama “Challengers,” the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and more are being made there.

It was the late 1990s and future Oscar-winning “Coda” filmmaker Siân Heder was ambling across Harvard Square, close to the home in which she grew up in Cambridge, Mass. There, near the Au Bon Pain sandwich shop on Brattle Street, Heder spotted two buddies from Cambridge Ringe and Latin School, then-unknowns Ben and Casey Affleck, shooting a scene for “Good Will Hunting,” the 1997 film that would score two Academy Awards, help usher in the era of Big Screen Boston and turn the Affleck brothers and Matt Damon, all actors in the movie and Massachusetts natives (“Massholes” in the local vernacular), into giant Hollywood stars.
“I knew Ben and Casey from high school — their mom was my teacher in third and fifth grade,” Heder says. “I think I shouted at Ben, ‘Put me in your movie!’ And so I was an extra in ‘Good Will Hunting.’”
But filming in Massachusetts in the 1990s was exorbitantly cost-prohibitive.

In Jan. 2021, Eli Timoner, 92, decided to make use of California’s End of Life Option law. His daughter, the award-winning documentary director Ondi Timoner (“We Live in Public”) did not start out to make a feature about Eli’s and her family’s journey to the end, but she has. “Last Flight Home,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, is many things, all of them compelling. It is a tribute, a grappling with mortality, an exercise in self-surveillance, a messy home movie, a brief account of aviation history and a lesson in letting go and grief.
In 1982, Eli Timoner had been flying high. His wife, Elissa and their kids — Rachel, Ondi and David — were thriving. Air Florida, the regional carrier he’d co-founded and was president of had grown considerably. In February of that year, he appeared on “Good Morning America” with host David Hartman asking him questions about his ambitions for the company.

Robin Roberts used to play basketball in college. She says she’s still building muscles while working at “Good Morning America.”
The ABC morning program is many things all at once. It’s a news program. It’s a pillar of the economics of ABC’s parent Walt Disney. And increasingly these days, it is a broader media entity that spans TV and digital and more. “Everything is about the audience and the energy of live,” says Michael Corn, the program’s senior executive broadcast producer. “We’re a live event every morning.”
Roberts has been with the show since 2005, and has pivoted with a bevy of format changes over that period of time. As part of Variety’s cover story this week about the pace of transformation in TV’s morning programs, Roberts agreed to discuss how she keeps pace with new developments. Below, in a lightly edited interview...

Robin Roberts needs to rely on more than just her journalism training to survive on “Good Morning America.”
ABC News keeps throwing new program configurations at her, so much so that Roberts says she draws upon her childhood experience, when her father had to move from job to job in the Air Force, to keep rolling with them. “I had to make new friends every three years,” she says. On camera at “Gma,” she’s done much the same.
When she joined the show as a co-anchor in 2005, Roberts worked with Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer, then just Sawyer. Then she teamed with George Stephanopoulos and a broader “family” of news anchors in a configuration that helped the show surpass its main rival, NBC’s “Today,” in the ratings for the first time in 16 years. Now, “Gma” looks nothing like the program that snatched the viewership crown. In 2020, Roberts is...

It was exactly 40 years ago today that Who drummer Keith Moon was found dead at a London flat owned by Harry Nilsson after overdosing on clomethiazole, which he was prescribed to alleviate his alcohol withdrawal symptoms. By tragic coincidence, it was the exact same apartment where Cass Elliott of the Mamas & the Papas died four years earlier. Moon was just 32, but his rampant drug and alcohol use and madcap lifestyle that earned him the nickname “Moon the Loon” had bloated his once svelte frame and made him look about a...
