USA Network has picked up two new reality series: “Instant Family” and “The Rev.”
The two series join USA’s existing unscripted lineup which includes “Chrisley Knows Best,” “Growing Up Chrisley,” “Miz & Mrs,” “Straight Up Steve Austin,” “Temptation Island,” “The Biggest Loser,” and upcoming summer series “Cannonball.”
Here is the description for “Instant Family,” a 6-episode, half-hour series:
“Nicole Walters is a type-a, energetic, jet-setting entrepreneur, and Josh Walters is her quirky and devoted husband and lawyer. Nicole and Josh had only been married a few years when their whole lives changed — they decided to open their home and hearts to three sisters living on the streets. Suddenly, they became brand new parents and were an “instant family”. Helping them navigate the wild world of parenting (and bringing the laughs) is Nicole’s best friend and “manny,” Eddie. The high-energy series focuses on the importance of balancing work and family,...

USA Network has ordered a fourth season of its thriller limited drama series The Sinner, with Bill Pullman set to reprise his role as Detective Harry Ambrose. Additionally, the network has picked up two new unscripted series, Instant Family (working title), starring Nicole Walters and Josh Walters, and The Rev (working title), headlined by Pastor Richard Hartley. Both are in the unscripted family sitcom genre, which the network has been focusing on following the success of Chrisley Knows Best.
The renewal and new series pickups are part of the current programming shift at USA away from ongoing scripted series toward more live and unscripted programming, along with “eventized” scripted projects, largely limited/anthology series.
This is a programming strategy that has been gaining momentum among basic cable networks as it is becoming increasingly challenging for premium scripted series to be sustained by the linear ad-supported cable business model.

Fourty years ago, The Rocky Horror Picture Show started its reign as the midnight movie for the ages; and to this day it still reigns. Probably the greatest reason that Richard Hartley and Richard O.Brien.s masterpiece of absolute pleasure has endured the years is, of course, its rock-and-roll fueled score. But if you were to try and rank these songs in their exact order of greatness, you.d probably be wandering into a discussion of a rather tender subject. Still, in the name of science fiction and Transylvanians everywhere, and considering it was all over TV last weekend - which has lodged the entire score in our heads, we.re gonna give it a go and rank every song in The Rocky Horror Picture Show 15. Rose Tint My World As fun of a movie as Rocky Horror is, it does frontload a bunch of action - only to...

"Rocky Horror never surprises me," says Lou Adler, who executive-produced The Rocky Horror Picture Show. "I can be sitting in the most conservative meeting about some other subject, and somebody will say, 'I have to admit...,' and then they give me their Rocky Horror story."
Later this month, Adler will be able to say he's heard four decades' worth of Rocky Horror lore, since the cult movie about newlyweds trapped in a mansion with a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" will be turning 40. To celebrate, the film will be...

"Enter at your own risk!!" screams a sign early on in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a fair warning for a film that's as unapologetically bonkers as you'd imagine a Cyndi Lauper sleepover or a John Waters nightmare to be, swimming in batty humour, extravagant costumes and hummable anarchy. With Tim Curry tottering around in high heels and suspenders, and Susan Sarandon harmonising in nothing but her bra, director Jim Sharman's 1975 musical adaptation is a veritable anthem to the odd.
Risky? Yes, but in the intervening 40 years, it's become a cult phenomenon that's stood the test of time remarkably well, partly because it never belonged to a discernible time period anyway. Based on Richard O'Brien's 1973 stage show (then called The Rocky Horror Show), the film sends up and celebrates the schlocky sci-fi/horror tropes of the '30s, '40s and '50s, revelling in a kitschy timelessness.

Was 2013 a weak year for film scores? I feel like it was. At least in terms of the scores that Oscar's music branch would pay attention to. I mean, four of my favourite scores of the year aren't even eligible! They would be Great Expectations (Richard Hartley), A Touch of Sin (Giong Lim), Lore (Max Richter - my no. 1 from 2012, but not released in Us until this year), and Only God Forgives (Cliff Martinez). Also not eligible for whatever reasons are Lone Survivor (Stephen Jablonsky), Frozen, Inside Llewyn Davis (T-Bone Burnett), and Nebraska (Mark Orton) - sorry Anne Marie!
I'm sure there is plenty of excellent music featured amongst this year's 141 (the documentary win this year's bragging rights, then) eligible scores, but Oscar will only look at about 10 or 12. Sorry Joseph Bishara - your abrasive strings on Insidious: Chapter 2 and The Conjuring just won't factor despite their effectiveness. Sorry...

You’ve seen him play Dracula and Sherlock Holmes, Sith lords and dark wizards, but have you ever heard Christopher Lee sing... about booze? And doing so in an effort to corrupt an alcoholic superhero into falling off the wagon? While surrounded by sexy back-up dancers and a goblin?
If you can answer yes to all of the above, then you’ve obviously see the 1983 Australian superhero musical comedy The Return of Captain Invincible.
From Philippe Mora, the director of Howling III: The Marsupials, The Beast Within, and Communion, and Steven E. de Souza, the writer of 48 Hours, The Running Man, and Die Hard (who co-wrote with Andrew Gaty), comes a musical comedy starring Alan Arkin as a bumbling alcoholic superhero (you thought Hancock did it first?) lured out of drunken retirement to save the world when his old nemesis Mr. Midnight (Lee) steals a military superweapon.

George A. Romero's career as a director has spanned well over 40 years now, with 16 feature films to his credit (plus one O.J. Simpson documentary!). Though mostly known as the father of the modern day zombie movie, and of course the director of the three best zombie movies ever made, Romero has also strayed away from the undead to direct a handful of non-zombie flicks over the years, including films like Creepshow and Martin, and even the non-horror films Knightriders and There's Always Vanilla.
But what about the projects Romero was attached to that never quite got off the ground? The filmmaking business is a fickle one, and any director that has been in the game as long as Romero has is bound to have a handful of projects that died before they ever had a chance to live. Things just don't always work out as planned in Hollywood, and...

Prolific television and film director whose output included the internationally successful 1983 drama Kennedy
Jim Goddard, who has died aged 77, was among the most prolific and distinguished television drama directors of his generation. Bleak and violent atmosphere and vivid characterisation were the hallmarks of his more than 200 distinctive works over the course of four decades. His Kennedy (1983) was shown simultaneously on Us network television, in the UK and Germany, and achieved the highest recorded viewing figures to that date for a televised drama.
Goddard's work included the 13-part drama Fox (1980), Reilly: Ace of Spies (1983) and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (1982), the early Channel 4 version of the RSC production. The power and visual immediacy of his directorial style owed as much to arthouse film as it did to his abilities as a painter. Indeed, he never forsook painting, which he studied at the Slade in London, or his love of set design,...

Writer and actor Richard O'Brien and composer Richard Hartley remember how three weeks at the Royal Court turned into a gender-bending 20th Century Fox extravaganza
Richard O'Brien, writer and actor
I'd been in Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair, and was starting to think I wouldn't mind seeing a musical that appealed to me, an eternal adolescent. I loved B-movies, rock'n'roll and glam, so thought I'd do a parody – or homage – to all those things.
Then Jim Sharman, the director of Jesus Christ Superstar, asked me to audition for a play at London's Royal Court. There I met Richard Hartley, who was writing its incidental music. One night, Jim brought Richard round to my place, and I sang them some of my songs, including Science Fiction/Double Feature and Hot Patootie. Jim thought they'd make a great show and called me afterwards saying: "They've asked me to do another play at...

There is a passage from Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" that I think is better than the rest. It's the moment Estella, speaking to Pip, tells him she has "no heart". Her monologue in that moment says so much in my opinion, about her view of herself, what she believes she deserves and whom she always will be. That scene in David Lean's 1946 adaptation couldn't be better, in Mike Newell's latest adaptation it doesn't fall flat, but it doesn't stand out as much as I wished it would. The same could be said for the film itself, which is perfectly serviceable, but overall nothing that offers a shift to the landscape. Dickens' novel has been adapted for the screen a myriad of times, from silent films to modern adaptations and just as soon as it begins, it's quite clear why. Great Expectations, if told with a competent cast,...

So it's parte The Seconde of the dreaded Trial Of A Time Lord, and matters are not improving. In fact, the chances of The Doctor getting off scott free with just a slap on the wrist are about as strong as a train timetable running on time in the middle of a snow storm.

Many years ago there was talk of a George A. Romero-directed film about a zombie rock band called Diamond Dead. With music from Emmy-winner Richard Hartley (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Dd was perhaps a little ahead of it's time. Attempting to harness the power of the 'net to build awareness of the film at a time just a tad before the boom of social networks like MySpace and Facebook, Diamond Dead never materialized as a feature film.
But last year it spawned a musical...

Around the great zombie craze of '04-'05 you might remember rumblings of a new George Romero project called Diamond Dead . In The Spotlight – Degrassi: The Next Generation, Clara Sheller, and River City
This week we look at three very different series that hail from three different countries. But all have one thing in common: each tell interesting and intriguing stories about the lives and loves of gay men.
First up, Degrassi: The Next Generation and ‘The Life of Riley’.
Riley Stavros, played by Argiris Karras, is the long running Canadian teen drama’s latest entry in its much-lauded history of depicting the lives of gay characters. But two recent episodes clearly showed Riley is very different from Degrassi’s last gay character, Marco (out actor Adamo Ruggiero). Where Marco was openly gay and never struggled with his sexual identity, it’s been nothing but a constant battle for Riley. In fact, he hates being gay and desperately wishes things were different. But as we see in this first clip, he...
