Runaway Jury, one of the best legal thrillers based on a John Grisham novel, has entered Netflix's top 10. The film features an incredible cast, which includes John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, and Rachel Weisz, and was directed by Reacher's Gary Fleder. Runaway Jury currently sits at number seven in the United States and in the Netflix top 10 worldwide.

The movie is about a lawyer named Wendell Rohr (Hoffman), who is up against Rankin Fitch (Hackman), a shady jury consultant who is able to stack juries in the favor of the defense. In a high-stakes trial against a gun manufacturer following a workplace shooting in New Orleans, one juror (Cusack) and his girlfriend (Weisz) appear able to manipulate the jury to deliver the verdict they wish.

2021's "The Little Things" is a fascinating little moment in cinematic history, not only because it debuted at the height of the global pandemic, but also because it was so close to being good that it almost doesn't make any sense that it wasn't. Writer/director John Lee Hancock produced a slick and stylish noir with an ending that at least tried to subvert some well-established tropes of the genre, leaving the central mystery unsolved. Denzel and his co-stars Rami Malek and Jared Leto all gave it their best, with Denzel in particular melding his undeniable charisma with a palpable sense of mournful regret. It should have been great, and yet it turned out sort of okay.

But when he learns of a plan by the firm’s partners, in collusion with a wealthy client (a shipbuilding magnate), he constructs a plan of his own. According to Deadline, Holland has made a deal to star in and produce The Partner, a drama based on the 1997 novel of the same name. Graham Moore, whose writing credits include The Imitation Game (2014) and The Outfit (2022), is scripting for Universal. This will be Hollywood's second crack at The Partner after John Lee Hancock previously tried to bring the novel to the big screen as his follow-up to The Blind Side. After Hancock left the project, Mark Wahlberg became attached to star in The Partner in 2012. However, this version, which was in development at New Regency, eventually stalled. This led to the rights being up for grabs again, with Rideback swooping in to buy them. Rideback will produce The Partner alongside Holland's new production label Billy17.

Emilio Echevarría, the Mexican actor who played the hitman known as “El Chivo” (The Goat) in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s 2000 film Amores perros and also appeared in Alfonso Cuarón Y tu mamá también (2001) and Iñárritu’s Babel (2006), died Saturday, January 4. He was 80.

His death was announced by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences. Additional details were not disclosed.

Born Emilio Antonio Echevarría Noriega on July 3, 1944, in Mexico City, Echevarría began his acting career in the late 1970s and he would go on to become a three-time nominee for Mexico’s Ariel Awards.

His breakthrough role came with Amores perros in 2000, followed quickly by Y tu mamá también, the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day and then, in 2004, John Lee Hancock’s The Alamo. Babel followed in 2006.

Echevarría died Saturday, the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences announced. No other details of his death were immediately available.

The three-time Ariel Award nominee appeared in two other recent classics of Mexican cinema: Y tu mamá también (2001), the coming-of-age road film directed and co-written by Alfonso Cuarón, and Iñárritu’s complex Babel (2006), which was nominated for the best picture Oscar.

Echevarría also had turns as the enigmatic British agent Raoul, who doubles as the manager of a Havana cigar factory, in the James Bond film Die Another Day (2002), and as Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna in John Lee Hancock’s The Alamo (2004).

The next Interview with the Vampire spinoff gets an ominous new teaser, with The Talamasca inching closer to a debut. Mayfair Witches season 2 has just returned to AMC and AMC+ with new episodes, but the Immortal Universe is set to expand with a third series based on Anne Rice's work. The Talamasca is focused on a secret organization, seeded in both Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, that's meant to keep track of supernatural creatures.

On X (formerly Twitter), the account for Interview with the Vampire shared a brief teaser. It is a brief message. A veteran of the organization (played by Elizabeth McGovern) makes a simple statement: “We watch the witches.” The teaser ends by restating that the Talamasca is always watching and always there. The latest video for AMC’s upcoming Mayfair Witches Season 2 has dropped, teasing viewers about what's next for the supernatural drama’s main characters. The series is based on the Lives of the Mayfair Witches novel trilogy by acclaimed author Anne Rice.

The Mayfair Witches Season 2 behind-the-scenes video features showrunner Esta Spalding and the cast, including lead star Alexandra Daddario, as they discuss some of the key points of the next installment. They teased Lasher’s motives and complicated relationship with Rowan, after he managed to successfully reincarnate himself as Rowan’s child. According to Spalding, viewers will get to see a different side of Lasher, who begins to recall some memories from his past lives now that he has become human. The featurette also gives spotlight to the show’s newest characters in the form of Rowan’s family, including her powerful cousin Moira Mayfair, portrayed by Alyssa Jirrels.

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley's dystopian sci-fi film Chaos Walking will soon be streaming for free. The film will be available on Tubi beginning Jan. 1, 2025.

Chaos Walking was released in 2021 and was based on Patrick Ness's science fiction trilogy of the same name. The film adapted the series' first book, The Knife of Never Letting Go. Tom Holland starred as Todd Hewitt, a young man who lives in a world with no women where all creatures can hear each other's thoughts through a series of images, words and sounds called "noise". When Viola Eade (played by Daisy Ridley) crash lands on the all-male planet, Todd protects her from danger. Chaos Walking was an infamous box office flop for Lionsgate, making only $27.1 million despite the film's $100+ million budget.

The Talamasca is a secretive group featured in a number of Rice’s novels. The official logline for the show states that it will “focus on the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, and other creatures scattered around the globe.”

Richardson-Sellers joins previously announced cast members Nicholas Denton, William Fichtner, and Elizabeth McGovern. She will play Olive, who is described as “a beguiling and ambitious agent of the Talamasca, assigned to be Guy Anatole’s (Denton) American handler. She is deft with information and a master of disguises in the old tradition of spy craft.”

Richardson-Sellers is known for her roles in shows like “The Originals” and “Legends of Tomorrow” at The CW, as well as the six-part cyber thriller “The Undeclared War” alongside Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance.

As revealed by The Immortal Universe's page on Instagram, Anne Rice's The Talamasca is now in production. The post below shows that cameras have begun rolling on the spinoff as of October 7. John Lee Hancock will direct the first episode, and John Schwartzman will be the Director of Photography. A Downton Abbey star has been revealed as the next person joining the cast of AMC's upcoming Anne Rice series, The Talamasca. The new show will be the third series in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth McGovern, who played Cora Crawley in Downton Abbey, will star as Helen in AMC's The Talamasca drama series, which will focus on "the secretive society called The Talamasca that is featured in many of [Anne] Rice's novels." The first season will have six episodes and will show its cast of characters as they track and contain the witches, vampires and other creatures around the globe. It is the third series on AMC to adapt Anne Rice's material, following in the footsteps of the acclaimed Interview with The Vampire and Mayfair Witches. The Talamasca is set to premiere sometime in 2025.

When I hear the name Elizabeth McGovern, I immediately think of ’80s projects she worked on like Ordinary People, Racing with the Moon, Once Upon a Time in America, The Bedroom Window, and, most of all, She’s Having a Baby. Which probably gives away the fact that I have never watched Downton Abbey. Variety has learned exclusively that Fichtner will join the show in the series regular of Jasper. He will star alongside previously announced series lead Nicholas Denton.
