Alexi Hawley’s popular drama series The Rookie recently returned with its seventh season and fans were taken by surprise with an unexpected twist. Episode 3 of the latest season brought back Jasmine Mathews as Rachel Hall following her exit in Season 2.

Due to her history with Eric Winter’s Tim Bradford, her return sparked speculation about a possible love triangle between Tim, Lucy, and Rachel. However, the show’s creator clarified that her return was never intended to set up a love triangle.

Episode 3 of The Rookie Season 7 brought back memories from the early days of the show with the return of Jasmine Mathews’ Rachel Hall. The character was initially introduced in Season 2 as Lucy’s college friend, who later starts dating Tim Bradford.

ABC’s The Rookie pulled off one of the deepest of cuts when in the Jan. 21 episode, Sgt. Tim Bradford’s Season 2 love interest, Ssw Rachel Hall (played by Sweetbitter‘s Jasmine Mathews), suddenly re-entered his and Officer Lucy Chen’s lives.

Rachel was last seen in the Season 2 finale, en route to a dream job in New York, but not before she and Tim (Eric Winter) half-heartedly agreed to give the long distance thing a go.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 3 sees the return of Jasmine Matthews as Rachel Hall alongside guest stars Bonnie Root and Richard Ellis. 

The Rookie's latest episode, "Out of Pocket," has several storylines to juggle as it continues its seventh season run on ABC. 

The police procedural drama sees Nolan making some drastic moves to protect his wife, Bailey, from her vengeance-seeking ex-husband while the rookies of the Mid-Wilshire precinct go rogue in an operation.

With the third episode of Season 7, “The Rookie” finally tied up a long-running loose end that dates all the way back to Season 2 — what the heck happened between Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and his one-time girlfriend, Rachel Hall (Jasmine Matthews)?

The character debuted on the show about five years ago in the third episode of Season 2, “The Bet,” which saw Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim strike up a simple bet: she bet she could find him a good match for a blind date and he bet she couldn’t. The wager? If she won, she got to finally switch uniforms and wear short sleeves. If not, no short sleeves and she had to do 50 pushups after every call.

This week’s “The Rookie” brings a new complication for Bradford (Eric Winter) and Chen (Melissa O’Neil), just as their post-break up relationship is making its way back to lighthearted banter — and playful bets.

Speaking of bets, Jasmine Matthews is back in tonight’s new episode, “Out of Pocket,” as Rachel Hall. If you need a refresher, no big surprise, a lot has changed since we last saw the character! Rachel was last seen about five years ago in Season 2, when she had a romance with Tim. The pair met in the episode “The Bet,” after Chen made a bet with her then-t.O. Bradford that she could find a good match for him. She won that bet when Bradford and Rachel hit it off, sparking a relationship that spanned several episodes until her surprising exit.

Throughout the show's run, fans were extremely invested in the characters of Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) getting together. In Season 5, Lucy and Tim finally did become a couple, but that ended in Season 6 when Tim broke things off with Lucy after the incident involving Ray Watkins (David Dastmalchian). However, earlier in the show, during Season 2, Tim dated another character, Rachel Hall (Jasmine Mathews). The relationship grew serious before Rachel disappeared from the show, never to be heard from again.
