Given the generally harsh fan and critical reaction to Star Trek: Section 31, it remains to be seen if Michelle Yeoh will be called upon to reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in a sequel. But the Oscar-winning actress, who just wrapped an extensive promo tour on behalf of Section 31 and served as one of its executive producers, is not lacking for upcoming projects.
Yeoh can currently be seen on screen and at home, now that it’s available for streaming, in Wicked. She will return as Madame Morrible, the duplicitous headmistress of Craig Hall at Shiz University, in the much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good. The musical fantasy will be released on November 21, 2025.
The actress has also lent her voice to the ongoing animated sci-fi/fantasy show, Ark: The Animated Series, which streams on Paramount+. Six episodes aired in 2024 and at least as many episodes will premiere later this year.

The producers faced another problem when actress Leah Vandenburg was trapped in Melbourne during the city’s second pandemic wave and could not travel to Sydney. So Maura Fay Casting speedily recast the role, with Renee Lim stepping in.

It was the year of the woman at the American Music Awards — and not because they had any “step up” moments of their own to atone for, but because this is the late fall of 2019, in a season when men are absolutely not killin’ it in pop music, so who else are you going to put on a music awards telecast right now?
Well, you’re going to put on Ozzy Osbourne, of course. But mostly you’re going to program young mega-divas like Camila Cabello, who got three performance slots on the show, because her hair has grown too long and lustrous to fit in just one — and also because awards shows are going to keep putting her and Shawn Mendes on the air to do “Senorita” and pretend like they’re about to kiss until one of them finally trips and they accidentally do. Also: Taylor Swift, who...

If you were expecting Taylor Swift to slam Scooter Braun, Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Label Group at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, then you will be disappointed. The pop sensation accepted the Artist of the Decade from music icon Carole King without dragging Big Machine — because she really didn’t need to.
Swift performed a medley of her songs — both new and old — without any red tape including “The Man”, “Love Story”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off” and “Lover.” She performed alongside ballet dancers Misty Copland and Craig Hall and sang with Camila Cabello and Halsey before accepting the trophy. Some may have thought she would have made the speech about the controversy leading up to her Ama performance, but instead, she kept it very Swift.
She gushed about how fun the performance was before praising King and telling a story about...

She's a force to be reckoned with! Taylor Swift is having a moment. Actually, it's more like a decade. The current queen of pop was honored with the Artist of the Decade Award on Sunday night at the 2019 American Music Awards, after giving an incredible performance of her iconic songs. As if the honor wasn't already impressive enough, the Lover singer electrified the crowd with her hair-raising speech, which was both touching and extremely poignant. The artist started by thanking her many fans, collaborators and advocates throughout the years. "There's magic in the woods, if you know where to look for it." Disney UK has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming release of the new Pete's Dragon movie, directed by David Lowery. This wonderful movie stars Oakes Fegley plays Pete, plus Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, Craig Hall and Isiah Whitlock Jr. I've already seen this updated take on the classic story and it's marvelous, a true delight, full of magic and joy and everything you could ask for. This new trailer captures that vibe and that feeling, while also showing lots of footage from the beginning and the end of the movie. There are no big spoilers revealed in this, but it should be enough to convince anyone still on the fence that this movie is definitely worth watching in theaters. In fact, I really can't wait to go see it again.

While Suicide Squad seems to be a lock for biggest end of summer movie this year, Pete's Dragon will surely give it a run for its money, arriving in August as a big family winner, as it will appeal to just about everyone. Except, perhaps, those who are a little too fond of the original 1970s classic. Elliott the dragon sure does look a lot different than he did the first time around. He was once a hand-drawn animated creation from the mad minds at Disney. Now he is a CGI creature that looks like a big furry green cat. But as two new clips will attain, this is still the Elliott we know and love, no matter what kind of crazy cosmetic makeover he may have endured!
The first clip takes us deep into the woods, where Pete has been living as a wild boy on his own. Though...

Disney has had non-stop success with their live-action remakes of classic fairy tales. This summer, they will go a slightly different route, reimagining the original live-action/animated classic Pete's Dragon for modern audiences. The first clip has arrived, and it features stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford trying to unravel the mystery behind a young boy who claims to have been living in the woods.
Robert Redford believes it is impossible for young Pete to have survived for 6 years on his own. But according to Bryce Dallas Howard's Grace, he wasn't alone. Not according to the boy. He's drawn a picture of his best friend. A strange green creature that lives in the forest. Impossible. Because this creature looks just like the dragons told about in the popular folklore of the surrounding area. It also looks just like a picture Grace's dad drew for her when she was a little kid!

Disney’s upcoming remake of their 1977 film Pete’s Dragon looks like an absolutely wonderful film, and today we have a new extended TV spot for you to check out. It includes a charming song being sung by Oakes Fegley, who plays Pete in the film, and it also features some great new footage from the film that includes Elliot the dragon. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing this movie. It looks like it’s going to be great.
David Lowery directed the film and it also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, Craig Hall, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

"Look all around you and see... Deep in the forest, there dragons will be." Oh my goodness, this looks soo wonderful. Disney has unveiled a new TV spot for David Lowery's live-action take on Pete's Dragon, and it's an extended 60-second spot. Oakes Fegley plays Pete and we actually get to hear him singing in this trailer and it's so magical it will make you smile instantly. There's also a few new shots of Elliot the dragon, but this is really just an exciting little glimpse of the movie. The full cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, Craig Hall and Isiah Whitlock Jr. It seems Disney is very confident with the movie that Lowery made, and is happy to start showing more and more of it leading up to the release later this summer. I'm pretty damn excited to see it myself,...

"I need to get back to him. He gets scared when I'm gone." Disney has debuted the new full-length trailer for their upcoming remake of Pete's Dragon, this time starring young actor Oakes Fegley as Pete. The teaser first released earlier this year was truly just a tease and didn't even show the dragon at all, now we finally get a good look at the friendly dragon Elliot in this trailer. And he actually looks pretty dang good. The full cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley, Oona Laurence, Craig Hall and Isiah Whitlock Jr. This looks wonderful, the score helps, but it also seems like the kind of movie that is both magical and exciting to watch. I'm impressed - can't wait to see this now. One of this summer's most anticipated family movies has finally debuted a full-length trailer! Check-out the latest sneak peek from Disney's Pete's Dragon which features spectacular never-before-seen footage of Pete's dragon, Elliott in action. The film, which is a reimagining of Disney's cherished family film from 1977, stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence and Robert Redford. The movie is directed by David Lowery, and opens nationwide on August 12, 2016.
Pete (Oakes Fegley) is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales...Until she meets Pete.
And from Pete's descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham's stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Pete's Dragon also stars Karl Urban, Craig Hall, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Marcus Henderson.
Disney debuted the first trailer in February, during ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 TV special. Disney also previewed this remake during their CinemaCon presentation in April. Now we get to see Elliott take flight for ourselves in this exciting teaser of what's to come. Pete's Dragon could be one of this summer's last big hits at the box office, opening in theaters August 12, going up against Sony's Sausage Party, Universal's Spectral and Paramount's Florence Foster Jenkins.
Along with the new trailer, Disney has also unleashed several new photos from Pete's Dragon, giving us an even better look at Elliott. Yesterday, the studio released the official one-sheet poster which shows Pete wrapped in Elliott's fuzzy tale. We have it all for you to check out right now courtsey of Youtube. Will this be the movie to beat this August

To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales...until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott.
Pete's Dragon also stars Wes Bentley, Karl Urban, Craig Hall, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Marcus Henderson.
The film is directed by David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints) from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks, based on a story by Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field. Jim Whitaker (The Finest Hours, Friday Night Lights) produces with Barrie M. Osborne (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Great Gatsby) serving as executive producer. Take a look at the new Pete's Dragon poster below, and be sure to check back later today for the trailer preview, and tomorrow for the full trailer.
The first trailer was unveiled back in February, during ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 TV special. Disney also previewed this remake during their CinemaCon presentation in April, but we don't know for sure if this new trailer will be the same as the footage shown at CinemaCon. Pete's Dragon opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, going up against Sony's Sausage Party, Universal's Spectral and Paramount's Florence Foster Jenkins.

The first three series of Seven Productions. A Place to Call Home will screen in the UK on BBC Two.

The seemingly straightforward Australian melodrama "A Place to Call Home," from creator Bevan Lee, more closely resembles a collection of nesting dolls parceling out secrets one by one. Available to American viewers for the first time on December 1, via the streaming service Acorn TV, the series adapts the structure of the daytime soap to the tale of fearless nurse Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp), as she tries to rebuild her life in the rural hamlet of Inverness, outside Sydney, in 1953. With lugubrious pacing and an aversion to salacious details, "A Place to Call Home" is, like Sarah herself, easy to dismiss but difficult to shake. "You misrepresented her," says town doctor Jack Duncan (Craig Hall). "She is a lot more than blandly efficient." Whereas primetime potboilers ("Scandal," "How to Get Away with Murder") turn melodrama's age-old tropes to new social ends, and today's period pieces ("Mad Men," "Masters...

Channel 7 has officially confirmed that period drama A Place to Call Home will conclude at the end of season two.
Despite being only halfway through airing the second series, the network has confirmed the development of season three won.t be proceeding. The remaining episodes of season two will still go to air.
Set in the 1950s, A Place to Call Home follows Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp) who returns to rural Nsw after 20 years abroad to start a new life. However, not all goes as smoothly as she planned.
Other actors involved in the show include Noni Hazlehurst, Brett Climo, Craig Hall, David Berry, Abby Earl, Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood, Aldo Mignone and Frankie J. Holden.
It has been speculated the reason behind the show.s axing is because the second season failed to provide the million-plus viewers of the first, though a Channel 7 spokesperson pointed out to If that, with last Sunday.s episode drawing 855,000 viewers,...

Hello again, dear readers, and I hope a lot of you enjoyed Thor: The Dark World over the weekend. In the meantime, this week’s Trailer Trashin’ column takes another look at my most anticipated movie of the rest of the year, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Premise: After successfully crossing over, and under, the Misty Mountains, Thorin (Richard Armitage) and company must seek aid from a powerful stranger before taking on the dangers of Mirkwood Forest – without the help of their Wizard. If they reach the human settlement of Lake-town, it will be time for the hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) to fulfill his contract with the Dwarves. The party must complete the journey to the Lonely Mountain and Bilbo, acting as burglar, must seek out the secret door that will give them access to the hoard of the dragon Smaug (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch...

Today is a great day, dear readers, because my favorite movie of the year so far, Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, is finally out on DVD and Blu-ray, so everyone who wasn’t able to check it out in theaters will finally have the chance to see it. Also, this Friday finally sees the release of Machete Kills – you can expect my review later this week – and us getting to see whether Robert Rodriguez has made a worthy sequel to his exploitation-movie tribute. And just to make things even better, this week’s new installment of Trailer Trashin’ takes another look at one of my most anticipated movies of the upcoming holiday season – Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The feature length film, the first from director Sebastian Guy and producer Neal Kingston, stars Christian Clark (Mr & Mrs Murder) and Georgina Haig (Fringe), and was shot in Sydney over just 14 days at the end of last year. .Even though we had an intense shooting schedule, the vibe on set has been one of the most relaxed and easy-going I have ever experienced. The energy and enthusiasm of the cast and crew has been amazing and very humbling., says Guy. The film follows Jakob (Clark) who, after the sudden death of his wife, suffers an emotional breakdown. The discovery that his wife was having an affair prior to her death sends Jakob into an obsessive search for her lover in a misguided attempt to understand their relationship. The Nazi’s are like an infinite gift to horror filmmakers. The depths of their depravity was limitless, allowing for all sorts of possibilities. They could create super-soldiers (S.S. Doomtrooper) or be zombies (Dead Snow) or some other supernatural entity (The Keep). And that is hardly a comprehensive list.
In The Devil’s Rock, the Nazis are dabbling in the occult. It’s June 1944, the eve of D-Day. Ben (Craig Hall) and Joe (Karlos Drinkwater) are on a two-man mission in the Channel Islands. Their task is to destroy German weapons right before the invasion of Normandy. Upon hearing screams coming from an ominous building near their target, Ben decides to snoop around. Not a good idea.

Nastier than my ex: Gina Varela is a Nazi demoness in The Devil's Rock.
A shapely Nazi demoness ignites a bloody World War II battle from Hell in The Devil’s Rock, a 2011 action-horror war movie from New Zealand.
The film has a pretty straight-ahead albeit colorful story: On the eve of D-Day, two Allied commandos (Craig Hall of 30 Days of Night and Joseph Tane of TV’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand) are sent to destroy a German gun installation. Moving forward on their mission, the pair uncover a secret occult lair housing a mysterious Nazi officer (Matthew Sunderland, Under the Mountain) and his beautiful but devilish captive (sexy Gina Varela). Well, it turns out the Nazis are actually hiding a deadly she-demon, whom they plan to use to turn the tide of the war.

Cast: Craig Hall, Matthew Sunderland and Gina Varela.
When there is a film that is about Nazis dabbling with the occult, ears are going to perk, and the question is would it have turned the tide of World War II? With The Devil’s Rock, all those tender loving thoughts are going to get explored again with its DVD release Feb 14.
Shades of Enemy Mine can be found at one level, and some nods to the Indiana Jones franchise can be found at another. The Nazis did try to look for the Spear of Destiny, Ark of the Covenant and Holy Grail before and during the war. Viewers who are not acquainted with history or archaeology may not know of Hitler’s preoccupation with connecting to the occult.

The Devil's Rock is a film from special effects guru Paul Campion, which takes place during World War II. It is the night before D-Day (June 5, 1944) and two New Zealanders have a special mission. They must take out one of the German guns on an isolated island. However, the screams of a woman from a nearby bunker draw them down, down into the fiery depths of hell. Just like Dante in the Divine Comedy, these two Kiwis will face unimaginable horrors, in a demon's lair. Then issues of the occult pop up and Campion goes for a tried and true association of Germany with the supernatural, much like earlier films e.g. The Keep (1983), The Bunker (2001), and Outpost (2008).
The red hues and blood splattered walls signal that this is not wholly an earthly plane, as Captain Grogan (Craig Hall) and Pvt.

Director: Paul Campion. Review: Adam Wing. Paul Campion is best known for his visual effects work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Chronicles of Narnia. The Devil’s Rock is his feature length debut, but it’s probably worth baring in mind that the two shorts he made in preparation for this were called Eel Girl and Night of the Hell Hamsters, which make The Devil’s Rock sound like a dull proposition by comparison. It’s the eve of D-Day and allied commandos are carrying out sabotage raids on the German occupied Channel Islands to draw attention away from Normandy. On Forau Island, two New Zealand comrades, Captain Ben Grogan (Craig Hall) and Sergeant Joe Tane (Karlos Drinkwater) have been sent to destroy gun replacements, but after negotiating a tricky route to their target, a woman’s screams lure them into an isolated fortress. The Tree Of Life (12A)
(Terrence Malick, 2011, Us) Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Hunter McCracken, Laramie Eppler, Sean Penn, Tye Sheridan. 139 mins
Successor to Kubrick's 2001 or extended perfume ad? Either way, Malick's macro/microcosmic take on life, the universe and family life makes most films look unadventurous. Beyond the head-trip "creation of the universe" sequences, it's largely Sean Penn's impressionistic reminiscence of his conflicted childhood, rendered in gorgeous imagery, with introspective voiceovers and a dreamy intensity.
The Princess Of Montpensier (15)
(Bertrand Tavernier, 2010, Fra) Mélanie Thierry, Gaspard Ulliel, Lambert Wilson. 140 mins
There's costumes and courtliness, but this 16th-century saga remains unstuffy. Sought-after Thierry's quest for self-determination is the focus, and the treatment is modern and immediate.
Trust (15)
(David Schwimmer, 2010, Us) Liana Liberato, Clive Owen, Catherine Keener. 106 mins
Those who saw Catfish will know where this teen's online relationship with an apparently nice boy is headed. But what follows is an exercise in parent-worrying technophobia.

You know that you are in for a treat when you read "from the director of Eel Girl." Paul Campion is the director behind the New Zealand shot The Devil's Rock and this is one horror film that grabs your attention. Many features have equated the Nationalist Socialist Worker's Part (Nazi) with the occult and the supernatural, including Blood Creek, starring Dominic Purcell. This time, the Gestapo come in devilish disguise and female form, while using pentagrams to summon even more minions.

I had the pleasure of seeing director Paul Campion's fun short film Night of the Hell Hamsters at the Another Hole in the Head film festival many years ago. So I was very excited when I heard about his new feature length film, The Devil's Rock, which premiered at the Cannes Film festival this past Friday. The WW2 horror film was shot in 15 days in Wellington, New Zealand. It stars Craig Hall (30 Days of Night), Matthew Sunderland, Gina Varela and Karlos Drinkwater ("Kerza", Spartacus: Blood and Sand). Check out the trailer for The Devil's Rock below.

King Kong (2005) Direction: Peter Jackson Cast: Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Jamie Bell, Kyle Chandler, Colin Hanks, Andy Serkis, Craig Hall, Evan Parke Screenplay: Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Peter Jackson; from Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace's story for the 1933 film Oscar Movies Recommendation: Naomi Watts Naomi Watts, King Kong The biggest disappointment about Peter Jackson's King Kong is that, despite all the p.r. regarding Jackson's fascination with the Merian C. In other words, the new King Kong is very much the sort of adventure film someone like Steven Spielberg would make: a technically proficient, unscary, highly sentimental, and shamelessly artificial thrill ride.
