Julia Butters, known for her work in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Fabelmans, is in talks to join the Freaky Friday sequel at Disney, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The studio first confirmed plans for the long-hoped-for film last year, and in March announced Nisha Ganatra of Welcome to Chippendales had been tapped to direct.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the original, were also in talks to return, though the studio has not officially confirmed any of its cast, including Curtis and Lohan. Disney had no comment on Butters’ casting.
Andrew Gunn, who produced the 2003 movie, will produce alongside former Disney exec Kristin Burr.
Curtis and Lohan have spoken openly of their aspirations for a Freaky Friday sequel for years. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore,” Lohan told the New York Times in 2023.

Late last year, Jamie Lee Curtis reportedly was interested in revisiting the 2003 body swap comedy remake she had made with then-rising star Lindsay Lohan, Freaky Friday. The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that it is officially in the works at the House of Mouse. Now that Disney is finding opportunities to reboot or give sequels to nostalgic projects thanks to Disney+ with projects like The Mighty Ducks series and the Hocus Pocus sequel, and hot off of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Oscar win, it seemed like a perfect time to cash in on a follow-up.
In the 2003 remake, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan played a mother and daughter who were constantly at odds with each other. A time came when they simultaneously wished the other could experience life in their shoes when magic fortune cookies made it come true. The next morning, they wake up in each other’s bodies.

A Freaky Friday sequel is officially in the works at Disney with both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No plot details for the film have been shared, but Elyse Hollander is writing the script. Released in 2003, Freaky Friday was already a remake; it originated as a Mary Rodgers novel in 1972, and its first film adaptation followed in 1976. But the Lohan-Curtis version — written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon and directed by Mark Waters — has become a fan favorite thanks to, among many other things, Lohan’s punky Anna, her band Pink Slip, and an incredible scene in which Curtis and Chad Michael Murray sing Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time.” It grossed over $160 million worldwide.
Lohan and Curtis have long been willing to reprise their roles in the film, which sees a mother and daughter switch bodies and learn to accept their differences.

Disney is going back to the world of Freaky Friday. A sequel is in the works to the 2003 body-swap comedy that starred Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Lohan and Curtis are expected to reprise their roles as a mother and daughter who wake up one Friday and find they have swapped bodies. Elyse Hollander is penning the script to the sequel.
Freaky Friday was based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, and grossed $160 million globally. Directed by Mark Waters from a script by Heather Hach and Leslie, Dixon has remained a cultural touchstone, with Curtis referencing it during public appearances over the years. It has become synonymous with the body-swap genre, spawning homages such as the Blumhouse horror film Freaky.
Curtis told the New York Times in a retrospective on the 2003 film that she continued to get questions about a Freaky Friday sequel while promoting her 2022 horror film,...

Exclusive: NBC has put in development My Parents Are Too F**king Happy, a single-camera comedy from feature writer Heather Hach (Freaky Friday, What To Expect When You’re Expecting) and Krysten Ritter‘s Silent Machine Entertainment. Written by Hach and produced by Universal TV, the project is an irreverent comedy about three romantically inept siblings who have been emotionally traumatized by their parents’ blissfully perfect marriage. This marks the second sale for Silent Machine in its first development cycle under the first-look deal the company inked with Uni TV in February, in conjunction of Ritter’s casting in the NBC/Uni TV comedy pilot Assistance, which remains in contention. Silent Machine, which Ritter runs with Lindsey Liberatore, also has an NBC bowling comedy with writer Liz Vassey and Kapital Entertainment. Pregnancy and childbirth are nothing new. In fact, there are few things less new than humans reproducing. It’s been done before. But Kirk Jones’ What to Expect When You’re Expecting accurately captures the inherent selfishness of expecting parents, and their individual “journeys” to the delivery room (and beyond). Unfortunately, even when gifted with a large, mostly eager cast, Jones is also saddled with a script from Shauna Cross and Heather Hach (working off of Heidi Murkoff‘s guidebook of the same name) that is deeply uninterested in providing much variety in their work. The effect is simple one – the film itself is deeply uninteresting. While What to Expect continually reminds its viewers that pregnancy and childbirth are miracles, unique and thrilling gifts, Cross and Hach have concocted one of the most bland, basic, and unadventurous scripts in recent memory. Like Garry Marshall’s rancid multi-story romantic comedies, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve...

Fresh off her turn as freakish media creature Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games, Elizabeth Banks is freaking out again in What to Expect When You’re Expecting — albeit in a more natural, or certainly more common, way.
"I play the owner of a baby store who has been dealing with infertility," Banks says of the ensemble comedy spun off of the venerable, non-fiction pregnancy guide by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel. "I finally get pregnant and I think it’s going to be a miraculous miracle, an amazing situation — and, of course, I get the exact opposite of that. Then it's all about how I deal with it."
Ravaged by mood swings and other hormonal side effects, Banks' Wendy Cooper sees all of her idealized theories about impending parenthood shattered and her marriage to Gary (Ben Falcone) imperiled by the blessed event. It's one of five interconnected storylines in...

Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) returns behind the camera with an impressive ensemble cast in What to Expect when You’re Expecting, loosely based on the original bestselling pregnancy manual (‘loosely’ in that the manual is not a novel, it’s a manual).

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide! Here's a new trailer for the comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting. I normally wouldn't post a trailer to a movie like this, but this new trailer for the film focuses on the dads in the movie, played by Chris Rock, Thomas Lennon, Ben Falcone, Rob Huebel, and Dennis Quaid.
Being a dad myself, I can relate to the insanity of having children, and I will tell you... nothing can prepare you for it. If you are having a kid or thinking of having one I wish you the best of luck. The film looks silly as hell, but if you're a parent then there's sure to be a few laughs because you can relate.

Though this trailer was meant to appeal to the male audience, I can’t help but think that it didn’t deliver. Not because there was a lack of manly things, but they are just trying to hard to get males to watch this by appealing to male interests.

Well, it's not specifically only for dudes, but the new trailer for What to Expect When You're Expecting is clearly trying to pull in the male audience with most of the focus being pulled towards the group of guys taking care of their kids. Thankfully, that includes some decent comedy from Rob Huebel, Chris Rock, Thomas Lennon, and more as they try to teach Rodrigo Santoro the rules of hanging out with them and their children. Lennon says not to judge, but this film is desparate to convince guys that this isn't just a typical romantic comedy for the ladies, when the first trailer showed it was exactly that. Watch! Here's the new trailer for Kirk Jones' What to Expect When You're Expecting, from Yahoo: Kirk Jones (Everybody's Fine, Waking Ned Devine) directs What to Expect What You're Expecting, written by Shauna Cross (Whip It) and Heather Hach (Freaky Friday...

[1] At first glance, What to Expect When You're Expecting doesn't seem terribly different from similarly star-studded snoozefests like He's Just Not That Into You and New Year's Eve. But the marketing folks are clearly hoping to set themselves apart by putting the emphasis on the "comedy" part of "romantic comedy," and their latest effort is a series of character posters that play up the film's raunchy sense of humor. Or try to, anyway. Mostly, they just succeed in making everyone look very heavily Photoshopped (has Brooklyn Decker always looked that much like Missi Pyle?) with cringeworthy lines next to their heads. Sort of like a Cosmo cover [2], only without the promise of sex tips. Check them out after the jump. [gallery columns="2" orderby="title"] I sincerely hope this is the first and last time I ever have to see the talented, lovable Anna Kendrick with a quote about peeing hovering inches away from her head.

I think news that the very popular pregnancy book, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, was going to be making its big-screen debut took everyone a little bit by surprise, given that the book itself isn’t so much a novel as a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin guidebook. (I believe – I’m yet to be expecting, myself.)
In reality, the film isn’t specifically adapting the book itself, but rather taking the idea and turning it into a film, and Yahoo Movies have just put up the first trailer, and it looks pretty excellent; a rom-com for us to look forward to next year.
When you have an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jennifer Lopez, Chace Crawford, Chris Rock, Matthew Morrison, Thomas Lennon, and Joe Manganiello, it’s either going to be a huge hit or a big disappointment, and this certainly...

Though this weekend will see the clash of dozens of A-list talent in New Year's Eve, next year a smaller number of big stars will find themselves pregnant in the ensemble romantic comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting, based on the best-selling instructional book by Heidi Murkoff. Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid, Glee's Matthew Morrison and many more star in the film which follows five different couples expecting the arrival of a child in their lives. There's barely a chuckle in this trailer, even with Rob Huebel and Thomas Lennon. Here's the trailer for Kirk Jones' What to Expect When You're Expecting from Yahoo! Movies: Kirk Jones (Everybody's Fine, Waking Ned Devine) directs What to Expect What You're Expecting, written by Shauna Cross (Whip It) and Heather Hach (Freaky Friday) adapted from the best-selling pregnancy instructional book of the same name.

I think it's quite apparent what trailers will be playing in front of New Year's Eve this weekend as first we got the trailer for The Lucky One and now we get the first trailer for What To Expect When You're Expecting based on the global bestseller by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel. I can only assume the trailer for One for the Money will complete the trifecta. When it comes to What To Expect When You're Expecting the story has been adapted by Shauna Cross (Whip It) and Heather Hach (Freaky Friday) and follows six couples of varying ages and backgrounds in the run-up to delivery of their babies, in a manner very similar to New Line Cinema's ensemble features He's Just Not That Into You, Valentine's Day and, you guessed it, New Year's Eve, which I just reviewed earlier today (read that here). What To Expect When You're Expecting...

The ensemble romantic comedy, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, has more famous names attached to the film than you can shake a stick at, and according to the BBC, one more name has unexpectedly just signed on to the project.
Cheryl Cole, who is currently at work on her third solo album during Girls Aloud’s present hiatus, has been confirmed to have a small cameo that will mark her feature film debut.
The film is to be directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee), with an early script by Heather Hach (Freaky Friday) that has been re-written by Shauna Cross (Whip It). What To Expect When You’re Expecting is based on the bestselling parenthood book of the same name, and though no plot is traceable through the original book, they’re turning it into a movie all the same.
