As fans continue celebrating the 20th anniversary of Lost Season 1, one of the show's most important episodes came late in the run. The first (and only) episode centered on Jin-Soo Kwon, "…In Translation," subverted fan expectations and a stereotype about a character fans disliked. More than any island mystery reveal, this episode proved how the show was able to spin the narrative while improving the show.
"…In Translation" showed viewers that Jin was not what he seemed. While he made some mistakes and held onto an antiquated sense of "honor," he wasn't a killer and any violence he committed was actually done to save a person's life. He loved his wife,...

Despite its legendarily divisive ending, ABC's Losthas still gone down as one of the greatest TV series of all time, setting the standard for "mystery box" shows ever since. Across its six seasons, it boasts some of the most acclaimed and memorable moments in TV history, from its groundbreaking pilot to its infamous flash-forward twist at the end of Season 3. Fans of the series no doubt have different picks for the best season, whether it's Season 1's setup of the island's many mysteries, or Season 3, which opened up the world of the show in all kinds of fantastic ways.
While the show's storyline got weirder and harder to follow in later seasons, Season 4 just might be the series at its very best, an ideal fusion of its island intrigue, high-concept sci-fi, and character development. It features some of the series' biggest payoffs, both from a plot standpoint as well as an emotional one,...

Two decades ago, the debut of ABC's Lost might have been the peak of an era of television that has since passed on. It's fitting, because the show about castaways on a magical island was all about letting go and facing change. Yet, even though the producers spent years crafting a definitive ending for the series, some viewers don't really understand Lost. In fairness, however, that's part of the fun. In the new Getting Lost documentary, series co-creator Damon Lindeolf reveals the finale of HBO's The Sopranos inspired them. Specifically, the ambiguity of the ending and creator David Chase's unwavering refusal to try to explain it.
Dealing with themes of identity, forgiveness and even higher philosophical ideas, Lost is a series that's meant to be pondered, not explained like the equation hidden in a math word problem. Some things are meant to be open questions. Was "Dave" ever real,...

The best Natalie Morales movies and TV shows feature several big movies and even more television series in which she became a popular actor and a familiar face. Morales got her start with a television guest role on CSI: Miami, and two years later, she had a lead role in the sci-fi comedy-drama called The Middleman. This allowed her to attract a lot of attention from casting agents, and she ended up picking up guest roles on several TV shows and then signed on to star in some of TV's top shows.
Things started rolling for Morales when she picked up a main role in White Collar, and then she moved on to regular roles on hit shows like Parks and Recreation, The Newsroom, Powerless, Santa Clarita Diet, and Grey's Anatomy. When The Witcher season 4 starts streaming on Netflix, our hero Geralt of Rivia is going to have a whole new look. That’s because Henry Cavill is no longer involved, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt. Today, Deadline has revealed that Hemsworth is being joined in the cast of The Witcher season 4 by Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix and the John Wick franchise), who will be playing a character named Regis.
If you’re like me and don’t have any familiarity with the Witcher franchise outside of the Netflix show, chances are that the first person you think of when you see the name Regis is Regis Philbin. But, of course, Fishburne’s casting on this show is not going to require any sort of Philbin impression. Instead, the Regis character he’ll be playing is someone who was introduced in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel Baptism of Fire.

Drama in streaming media isn't limited to what we watch. Lately, The Witcher has been in the limelight not for its narrative but due to one writer's deeds. The discourse reached its peak last week when writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach stirred up a hornet's nest by posting about the series' latest episodes.
Freshly released on Netflix, the concluding chapters of Henry Cavill's odyssey as the titular Witcher generated significant excitement among fans. However, it was Grillo-Marxuach's social media enthusiasm on X (previously known as Twitter) that caught the eyes of many. SAG-AFTRA tonight responded to criticism of its interim agreements, saying that they are a “vital part of our strategic approach to these negotiations and to the strike.” The interim agreements allow truly independent projects to film during the strike as long as they agree to be bound by the terms of whatever deal the guild eventually reaches with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Critics include Sarah Silverman, who erroneously called actors who work on those projects “scabs,” though she admitted on social media last week that that “I know I just must not be understanding something.”

A writer for The Witcher has taken down social media posts about the final episodes of Season 3 amid accusations of "scabbing" amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
Last week, the final three episodes of Henry Cavill's final season of The Witcher debuted on Netflix. Per THR, writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach had touted the release of the episodes on X (formerly Twitter), and this led to criticism with some saying the union strikes made it inappropriate. Grillo-Marxuach has since clarified in new posts that he didn't violate strike rules, as writers are free to talk about their own projects on social media as long as it's not at the request of the company. Even so, he said he took down his original posts just to make it clear he stands with the striking writers.

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, a veteran of the TV space who has most recently served as both a writer and EP on Netflix’s The Witcher — prior to the start of the dual strikes — has come forward to address accusations of “scabbing” prompted by his posts on social media.
Grillo-Marxuach joins a growing list of guild members, between WGA and SAG-AFTRA, that have faced harsh rebukes from peers of activity that is, in fact, guild-approved. Inciting this particular incident were social posts promoting the aforementioned fantasy drama, which as he notes, were made with WGA dictates in mind.
“Today i was accused of scabbing for posting about, and showing the title card and promo for #TheWitcher – which i did of my own volition and not at the request of my corporate overlords – and for engaging with fans of the show,” wrote Grillo-Marxuach. “While my actions are completely within the guild’s strike...

With Hollywood largely in lockdown due to two historic strikes and studios digging in their heels for what’s increasingly looking like a many months-long war of attrition, sensitivities amid the union ranks have never been higher.
So when an executive producer and writer for Netflix’s The Witcher tweeted about the show’s new episodes, it’s perhaps unsurprising the comments received blowback.

Netflix’s search for an AI Product Manager with a salary range of $300,000 to $900,000 has widely stirred reactions of disgust and frustration amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA double strike.
Writers and actors are striking, in part, for new industry standards around artificial intelligence and the threat such technology potentially presents to creatives. And while there are many ways that Netflix may be employing artificial intelligence to its streaming platform — some that impact writers and actors, others that don’t — at the very least, the optics of the new hire coming at this time could be better.
Netflix declined to comment to TheWrap on the controversy, nor offered additional information about the nature of the position. A similar position was recently posted at Disney.

Lucy Lawless’ beloved character from Xena: Warrior Princess gets an amazing cosplay treatment, complete with her signature weaponry. Originally conceived as a disposable villain in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Lawless’ character became so popular that producers opted to create her own spinoff series. Running for six seasons between 1995 and 2001, Xena: Warrior Princess would go on to eclipse the popularity of the original show, which spawned it and transformed the spinoff’s titular heroine into a pop-culture icon.
A recent cosplay image shared by Lauren Gianna on Instagram evokes Lawless’ battle-hardened warrior. Check out the image below:

Depicted wearing Xena’s intricately detailed leather armor, the cosplay also features the razor-sharp throwing weapon known as a chakram. Xena’s ever-present sword can also be seen slung over Gianna’s shoulder.
Will The Xena Fandom Ever Get To See A Series Reboot?...

Fifteen minutes before showtime, the crowd at Austin’s Stateside Theater was negligible. A few Atx TV Festival patrons were sprinkled throughout the theater, but the priority access and badge-holder lines amounted to just a few dozen fans. Soon, four WGA members would take the stage to explain why their guild was striking and detail the issues at stake — issues many consider to be a tipping point for the future of television.
But… it was a sunny Saturday afternoon. The festival, now in its twelfth season, is known for hosting major premieres and popular reunions. Panels break down various TV professions and topics, from discussions with casting directors to best practices for a safe production, but they’re often held in smaller venues or bolstered by high-profile talent. Would the same people who traveled to Austin for a “Cheers” reunion or the first look at “Justified: City Primeval” fill a...

One of the major responsibilities a writer has aside writing scripts is to make sure those scripts retain their integrity throughout the production process. For any number of practical reasons, a scene that works on the page doesn’t always translate in front of the cameras, and it used...

“Lost” showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse confront several accusations of racism, toxicity and more that allegedly occurred during the making of the ABC hit series in Maureen Ryan’s new book, “Burn It Down,” an excerpt of which has been published on Vanity Fair’s website. Patrick Somerville, creator of the HBO series “Station Eleven” and the Netflix show “Maniac,” was among a slew of Hollywood writers to weigh in late Monday after the Writers Guild of America went on strike, saying the union’s negotiating points firmly lined up with reason — and the studios knew it.

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Robbie Amell (Upload), Meng’er Zhang (Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings), Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia Here We Go Again!) and Christelle Elwin (Half Bad) have joined the Season 3 cast of Netflix’s The Witcher.
Amell will play Gallatin. A born fighter, Gallatin leads an army of guerrilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard. Unafraid to speak his truth, Gallatin’s loyalty to his people ultimately leads him on a collision course with Francesca over power.
Zhang is Milva. A human adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest, Milva is a fierce and talented huntress. Exact archery skills coupled with a stone-cold aptitude for survival make her a formidable adversary in the unforgiving Continent – those that cross her, do so at their peril.
Skinner portrays Prince Radovid. Royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir, Radovid finds himself suddenly a man on the inside of the Redanian Intelligence.

Netflix cancelled the sci-fi anime adaptation on Thursday, less than a month after the freshman season debuted on the streamer. Expectations for the series were high — John Cho starred as an intergalactic bounty hunter in a new live-action take on the animated cult hit — but mixed reviews and a lack of buzz led to Netflix pulling the plug, despite spending years developing the show.

News came today that Netflix would not be moving forward with a second season of Cowboy Bebop, its once-highly anticipated live-action anime adaptation starring John Cho. The quick cancellation came less than three weeks after its November 19 launch.
Based on Shinichirō Watanabe’s cult anime series, Cowboy Bebop followed a group of misfit bounty hunters, led by Spike Spiegel (Cho) as they search for the galaxy’s most valuable criminals. Mustafa Shakir also starred as Jet Black and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine.
Cho was the first cast member to react to the cancellation, posting only a head-bobbing gif of Tom Selleck from a scene in Friends saying “I’m Okay.” He was later joined by co-ep Javier Grillo-Marxuach in the online mourning. See below for their reactions.

Lucy Lawless is very well appreciated for her run as the titular heroine in the fantasy adventure series Xena: Warrior Princess, and the actress recently weighed in on the possibility of a reboot. Originally airing for six seasons between 1995-2001, Xena has developed a strong cult following with the series often talked about by fans. With so many other classic shows of the era getting modern revivals and reunion specials, some fans have wondered if more Xena could be coming soon.
In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Lawless spoke about the future of Xena. Though she can't be specific, the actress hints that a new take on the series is currently in the works with a pitch that managed to impress Lawless. That's certainly high praise coming from the star of the original series. She goes on to explain how it will be "utterly different" and yet "cool" in its own way.

October 15 marks the end of Hispanic Heritage Month and some of the top creators in TV and film are punctuating it with a demand for change when it comes to Latinx representation — and they have every right to voice their demands. In fact, it is long overdue.
In an open letter to Hollywood over 270 Latinx showrunners, creators, and TV and feature writers, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tanya Saracho, Gloria Calderon-Kellett, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Steven Canals, John Leguizamo, Linda Yvette-Chavez, Carolina Paiz, Marco Ramirez, Javier Grillo-Marxuach and more are calling for systemic change in the entertainment industry.
The letter starts: “As we come to the end of Hispanic Heritage Month in the midst of a global pandemic and continued racial injustice, many of us in the Latinx community have found it difficult to celebrate. Inspired by the activism of the Black and Indigenous communities, many of whom also identify as Latinx, we stand...

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, more than 270 Latinx show creators, television showrunners and writers for screens both big and small have written an open letter calling for systemic change in the entertainment industry.
“We are incensed by the continued lack of Latinx representation in our industry, especially among the Black and Indigenous members of our community. Our stories are important, and our erasure onscreen contributes to the persistent prejudice that prevents real change in this country. This prejudice is not as overt as the one that keeps immigrant children in cages and separates families at the border, or as violent as the racism that is killing our Black, Brown and Indigenous community members at the hands of police. But when we are onscreen, we’re often relegated to stereotypes or villains,” the letter says.
