Netflix has officially confirmed the upcoming third season of Sweet Tooth will be the show’s final season. Season two launched on April 27, 2023 and season three could arrive as soon as 2024, given that it’s already finished filming and won’t be impacted by the writers’ strike.
“Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2,” revealed series creator, writer, director, and showrunner Jim Mickle.
The renewal announcement included details on new season three regulars. Rosalind Chao, who plays Zhang, and Amy Seimetz, who plays Birdie, have been upped to series regulars. Cara Gee (The Expanse) is joining the series as Siana, and newcomer Ayazhan Dalabayeva will play Nuka in the final season.

In the 94-year history of the Oscars, there is only one category, besides Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, that has never been won by a woman. That would be Best Cinematography, which honors a movie’s lighting, framing and camerawork.
Those are hardly gender-specific achievements, though the Oscars, for better or worse, are a reflection of the opportunities offered in the film industry. And as such, there are deep institutional reasons why this specific category has such a poor track record for women.
The trivia stat could change on Sunday night. Ari Wegner, the Australian cinematographer of Jane Campion’s nomination-leader “The Power of the Dog,” is nominated for her thoughtful, intuitive work on the film. TheWrap’s Steve Pond predicts that Wegner will take home the trophy, giving her the edge over “Dune” Dp Greig Fraser (the cinematographer of Campion’s previous movie “Bright Star”), who has scored the BAFTA and ASC precursors.

“You wanna talk about that piece of s–t?”
That’s how veteran actor Sam Elliott responded when podcast host Marc Maron brought up the critically acclaimed Oscar contender “The Power of the Dog” during a recent appearance on Maron’s “Wtf” podcast, kicking off a rant in which Elliott laid out how the film’s subversion of the Western genre and homosexual themes “rubbed me the wrong way,” as he put it.
“I didn’t like it anyway,” Elliott began. “I looked at it when I was down in Texas doing ‘1883,’ and what really brought it home to me the other day… there was a full-page ad in the LA Times and there was a [clip] and it talked about ‘the evisceration of the American myth,’ and I thought, ‘What the f—k? At this point, do we even remember what a normal Oscar season is supposed to look like?
After last year’s elongated, pandemic-wracked, nearly all-virtual season, this was supposed to be the year the Oscars got back to semi-normal. The Academy scheduled the Oscars for the end of March out of what seemed to be an abundance of caution, more theaters reopened and more movies began to play theatrically… and then everything stopped again.
And now, it’s the beginning of February, most awards shows are going virtual and 9,4000 Oscar members have voted for films that most watched on their TVs or computers (or maybe even phones). Nominations will be announced this Tuesday, and then it’ll be more than a month before voters can even begin to cast final ballots for movies that one would hope they’ve already seen.
So just as it wasn’t normal last year,...

Just a few weeks after The Harder They Fall, Netflix gives us another sprawling Western. Ah, but there are a few big differences. The West is still pretty wild, though the entry is a tad “milder’. The former was filled with desperate shoot-out and showdowns, I don’t believe anyone in this story “throws down” on anybody, other than some “target practice. Yes, there’s lots of violence but it’s more of the verbal and psychological nature. Oh, and the new one is set nearly fifty years after Fall, so them “new-fangled” cars are spookin’ the horses. Its gorgeous cinematography highlights the “wide-open spaces” which helps to amplify the big distance between the two brothers, with one of them channeling The Power Of The Dog.

Netflix has debuted a teaser trailer and artwork for Jane Campion’s upcoming ‘The Power of the Dog’ featuring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Severe, pale-eyed, handsome, Phil Burbank is brutally beguiling. All of Phil’s romance, power and fragility is trapped in the past and in the land: He can castrate a bull calf with two swift slashes of his knife; he swims naked in the river, smearing his body with mud. He is a cowboy as raw as his hides.

Film at Lincoln Center announces Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog as the Centerpiece selection for the 59th New York Film Festival, making its New York premiere at Alice Tully Hall on October 1.
Campion reaffirms her status as one of the world’s greatest—and most gratifyingly eccentric—filmmakers with this mesmerizing, psychologically rich variation on the American western. Based on the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is executive produced by Jim Mickle, Beth Schwartz, Robert Downey, Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran.

Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie). “A Thousand Cuts,” a film that chronicles how Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte uses social media to spread disinformation, was Friday named the best international feature at New Zealand’s Doc Edge International Documentary Film Festival. The festival is being held online only due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.
In an unforeseen real-world twist, earlier this week saw the conviction of Maria Ressa editor of a Philippines online newspaper that has been critical of Duterte, and the core subject of “Cuts,” on cyber libel charges. Many media and human rights organizations have criticized the prosecution as trumped up, politically-motivated and illogical given that the offence occurred before the law existed.

During Comic-Con amidst a number of higher profile trailers released MTV unveiled a trailer into the world of their Shannara Chronicles, an upcoming show based on Terry Brooks’ forever bestselling epic fantasy series that I have to admit took me by surprise.
Now, MTV has released some more images from the story that fans of Brooks read in The Elfstones of Shannara, the second book in the series, skipping over The Sword of Shannara, which I think is not only a good move, but an obvious one to make, even if only not to have John Rhys-Davies running around in New Zealand again in a story that has self-admitted ties to The Lord of the Rings.
As I expressed when I first saw the trailer I think it was a good move simply because both Elfstones and the following book Wishsong of Shannara are simply better stories and offer more...

Ok, here’s the really surprising thing: Aliens In The Attic isn’t entirely awful.
Since it didn’t press screen in New York (always an omen suggesting someone at the studio has perceived quality control issues), I rushed to the very first theatrical unspooling at 10:30 a.m. Friday on 42nd Street and paid my money to be among the first in my neighborhood to see today’s Sf comedy. It was a little too early for hot buttered popcorn but the air conditioning was nice. The seat was comfy. There was a good amount of legroom. And then the movie.
Briefly, four aliens not from this Earth have landed—on the roof and then into the attic of a summer rental mansion—as vanguard to a massive force from the planet Zirconia (or was it Zirconium, I’m confused) that will be invading by the picture’s end.

Briefly, four aliens not from this Earth have landed—on the rood and then into the attic of a summer rental mansion—as vanguard to a massive force from the planet Zirconia (or was it Zirconium, I’m confused) that will be invading by the picture’s end.
