Two-day Antony and Cleopatra workshop in Sydney, directed by Declan Donnellan and starring Blanchett as Shakespeare's Egyptian queen, could lead to a full-scale production
Having played Elizabeth I and Jrr Tolkien's elf queen Galadriel, Cate Blanchett is no stranger to royal roles. Now she could be set to tackle Shakespeare's most famous queen, after workshopping Anthony and Cleopatra in Sydney with British director Declan Donnellan.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a two-day workshop that was held last week could lead to a full-scale production, opening in Sydney towards the end of next year, before launching a European tour. The form would mirror that of Blanchett's current stage appearance, Gross und Klein (Big and Small), which will receive its UK premiere at the Barbican in April.

Playwright Gow Pays Tribute To Cilento
Playwright Michael Gow has paid tribute to Diane Cilento following her death on Thursday, calling the actress "a performer to the end".
The Academy Award nominee, who was previously married to Bond star Sir Sean Connery, passed away at Australia's Cairns Base Hospital after a lengthy battle with ill health.
Gow, a close friend of the actress, reveals Cilento was in good spirits during a meal at the weekend (01-02Oct11) before her health deteriorated.
He tells ABC News, "She was a performer to the end, and she put on a great display for all the guests at that dinner.
"She kept us all hugely entertained until the day before (she died), when she just couldn't manage anymore and we took her to hospital."...

Diane Cliento, the flaxen-haired Australian actress best known for starring in the 1963 hit "Tom Jones," (a role which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress) has died at age 78 after a long battle with illness.
The star was born into a medical family in Mooloolaba, Queensland, in 1933, but picked up and moved to London to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in the 1950s. Her talent and stunning looks added up to success, and she quickly began to land work both on stage and in film.
In 1963, she married Sean Connery and gave birth to their son, Jason, before the couple split about a decade later. Then, in 1985 she married writer Anthony Schaffer, who penned "The Wicker Man," a film in which Cliento also appeared, The Hollywood Reporter recounts.
Friend and playwright Michael Gow was with the cinema legend at a dinner party just last weekend.

Queensland Theatre Company and State Theatre Company of South Australia present Toy Symphony by Michael Gow. The multi award-winning new play is an inventive and compelling look at what happens when a writer loses his ability to imagine.
Gifted playwright Roland Henning is trying to convince his sceptical therapist Nina that he doesn't have writer's block, it's just that, well, he can't write anymore ...With Nina's help, Roland reluctantly recalls his primary school days in the outer-Sydney suburb of Como, and the extraordinary day that shattered his boyhood plunging him headlong into the dizzy circus of art and life.
But Roland remains adamant that he is beyond help and will never write again, and personal tragedy threatens to permanently derail him. A chance discovery offers Roland salvation, but will he grasp it or slip back into old habits?
Director Geordie Brookman says "Toy Symphony is a highly theatrical and clever new work.
