Die Hard is heading back to theaters for the holiday season.
Originally released in 1988, Die Hard is a bloody action movie that happens to be set on Christmas. Every year, fans debate over whether they consider the film to be a genuine Christmas movie, or just a film that happens to be set on Christmas, with some arguing that there's a big difference between the two. In any case, per AMC, it's been announced that Die Hard is coming back to theaters for this year's Christmas season, set to hit the big screen for a limited time starting on Dec. 8, 2023.

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Die Hard started out with low expectations and mixed reviews, but it became a beloved classic and a major success at the box office. Die Hard cemented Bruce Willis as an industry icon and introduced Alan Rickman as a talented actor. Die Hard 6 was canceled due to the poor reception of the previous film, the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, and Willis's retirement from the industry, but there are rumors of a reboot in the works.
When Die Hard hit theaters back in 1988, hopes weren't particularly high. And not only that: the reviews following its release weren't necessarily brilliant either. However, as years went by, everyone's perception of John McTiernan's film improved significantly, and Die Hard became one of the greatest classics of the action genre, shaping films of all kinds to this day.

One word that comes to mind when you hear the title Die Hard is “definitive.” After all, it’s widely considered star Bruce Willis’ definitive role. Still, it’s also, arguably, the definitive action movie and even the definitive Christmas movie by some (in a debate that’s grown a bit tiresome). Indeed, Bruce Willis as John McClane, fighting terrorists in the Nakatomi skyscraper in Los Angeles, is a defining image of the eighties. Director John McTiernan, writers Steven E. De Souza and Jeb Stuart, and star Bruce Willis crafted a carnage-filled epic grounded by a very human hero – John McClane, who was a notable departure from the icons of the genre at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. McClane was no superman. Instead, he was human, flawed and broken-hearted over his failed marriage. His only goal was to rescue his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and get home for Christmas with his kids.

Peter Weir's Oscar nominated Witness (1985) was not chosen for our Best Shot series for its title, though that's as apt a logline for this series as any. The title refers to young Samuel Lapp (Lukas Hass, in a sterling child performance) but it neatly doubles as a surprisingly hushed command to the audience out there in the dark.
Lukas Haas figures it out at the police station
The story may spring from an abrupt violent murder in a public bathroom which Samuel sees, wide-eyed, from a bathroom stall but there's very little about the hit drama that is as in your face as its story beats and genre might otherwise suggest. From its earliest longshot of Amish villagers coming into view above a field of grass, to its sublimely casual farewell of its last shot (with two men crossing paths outside the home of the woman they both love...

Director John McTiernan at La Cinémathèque Française's masterclass.Last autumn, my friend and colleague, Christopher Small, and I took the vacation of a lifetime to Paris. Did we go to eat macarons, drink wine and sneak a peek at the Mona Lisa? No, no we didn’t. We went to Paris to watch movies. Movies? Yes, movies. Did we go to Paris to watch the latest Godard, visit the site of the first cinema screening or drink beer with friendly Parisians until 4 in the morning? No, but we did anyway. What Christopher and I went to Paris to do was to watch John McTiernan’s movies on glorious 35mm at the Cinémathèque Française. To understand how special this trip was, I should probably provide a bit of background information: my husband, Jake Barningham, and his best friend, Daniel Gorman, started Mission:McTiernan back in 2010. They were right there with Notebook alum...

It's a bigger "Star Wars" day today than usual, so why not celebrate it with a trip into the cinematic past? On StreamFix we're counting up the best options for online viewings of classics starring old and new cast members from "Star Wars." Here's where you should begin in your trek to experience these stars at their best. Harrison Ford: "Witness" (Netflix) I'll just say it: This is the greatest movie in Harrison Ford's oeuvre. A suspenseful, great-looking movie with superb storytelling (the '85 Original Screenplay Oscar winner) and a damn good role for Kelly McGillis. It's about our man H. Ford protecting an Amish boy who witnesses a murder, but there are too many interesting anomalies to discuss within. I'll mention only two: This is the first of two action movies starring blond Russian dance icon Alexander Godunov (the other being "Die Hard," of course), and it...

From early Bond to 21st century sci-fi, here's Ryan's pick of 11 unforgettable villain pairings from action cinema history...
You're generally lucky if a movie has one genuinely great villain in it, let alone two. This is probably because creating a villain takes great acting and writing - it's one thing to create a preening character who stomps around a story doing unpleasant things, but creating a villain who's three-dimensional, witty, scary and above all memorable requires considerable skill.
Every so often, a movie comes along which gives us not one, but two classic villains, with the personality of one complementing the other. A familiar dynamic was once laid out by Steven Spielberg: one is smart and eloquent , while the other is the tougher, more violent of the pair. It's a template that we've seen time and again in cinema, but it's only occasionally that both characters leap from the screen.

NBC is developing a new comedy series based on the 1986 feature The Money Pit, which starred Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. Amblin Television will produce the film. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment was behind the original, now considered a cult classic.
Universal Television is co-producing, with former The Office writer-producer Justin Spitzer adapting the original screenplay by David Giler into a weekly series.
The plot will stay close to the original, which followed young couple Walter Fielding, Jr. and Anna Crowley Beissart Fielding as they proceed to buy a distress-sale mansion that quickly falls apart and destroys their relationship. Much of the humor in the movie came from the couple's attempts to fix the many problems found inside the mansion.
Justin Spitzer also has a Detroit auto company comedy set up at NBC, and another comedy in the works at USA Network called Start Up. If The Money Pit moves forward,...

While I know most tend to associate actor Zach Galligan with the movie 'Gremlins,' for me growing up I was always a bigger fan of his portrayal of Mark in the 'Waxwork' movies. After all, he got to fight all the classic Universal monsters, go up against the Waxwork proprietor played by the great David Warner and was friends (and potentially more?) with mega-babes Michelle Johnson (China) and Deborah Foreman (Sarah). I've always had a great deal of affection for the first 'Waxwork' because not only is it a perfect blend of horror and comedy, but because it was also an all out monster mash that didn't skimp out on the monsters or the gore. Writer/director Anthony Hickox (who also later helmed 'Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth,' 'Warlock: Armageddon,' and 'Sundown: A Vampire In Retreat') teamed up once more with...

Henchmen are one of the unsung heroes of cinema. They do the dirty jobs that no one else wants to do, and they keep the good guy from resting on his laurels by challenging him to some sort of entertaining action sequence. Sure, they may not be the smartest or the best-looking, but they serve a purpose and make movies more entertaining. Here is our list that honors the best henchmen of all time.
If there’s a big-time baddie in a movie, you can almost be certain that he didn’t rise up to prominence by himself. He had to have help, and that help usually came from henchmen. Not only do they make the bad guy better, they also make the good guy look good by getting beaten up and/or dying easily. Therefore, although it is a job with unique perks, it’s still a tough job.

The original Die Hard remains my favorite movie of all time. Of all time. Realistically, I.ve watched it hundreds of times. And one of the games I.ve come up with on repeat viewings is singling out Bruce Willis. stunt double. He doesn.t really look like Willis. And it stands out in key scenes. Go back and watch John McClane.s brutal fight against Karl (Alexander Godunov) near the end of the film. You.ll be able to spot the stand-in at regular intervals. The stunt doubles photographed alongside the actors they are hired to play look much better. A gallery of 15 stunt doubles has been posted to TwistedSifter. Here are the best three. HollywoodNews.com: As a whole, Contraband is a pretty unremarkable would-be thriller. There is almost no real action, and much of the middle act is a series of monotonous scenes of Kate Beckinsale being threatened and/or beaten by Giovanni Ribisi. While Ribisi’s character felt the need to continually antagonize Mark Wahlberg’s family after Wahlberg has already agreed to do the crime in question is to be debated, since you’d think you wouldn’t want to antagonize the professional criminal who is being entrusted with your precious cargo. Anyway, Wahlberg is the classic ‘former criminal gone straight’ archetype, complete with a loving wife and kids. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis are dazzling audiences in the new psychological thriller, “Black Swan,” a glamorous yet unflinching look at the world of ballet.
Lithe dancers who flit their arms and pirouette with such dreamy grace promptly go backstage, peel off their toenails and snap their tendons back into place. Such effortless beauty comes with a lot of pain and blood… and maybe a little something else in “Black Swan.”
Portman and Kunis did an intense amount of training for the film – and it probably won’t surprise you that both had ballet experience. They’re so delicate that they seem born to wear tutus and slippers.
But you might be surprised at who else in Hollywood started their dramatic careers in ballet. We’ve compiled a list of those actors and actresses who have been en pointe, abandoned the barre for time travel, machine guns, martial arts, and Johnny Depp.
