- Paramount Pictures attempted to cash in on the popularity of his radio show "Duffy's Tavern" by producing a 1945 movie of the same name (Duffy's Tavern (1945)) which starred Gardner and featured dozens of Paramount luminaries. The picture fizzled.
- Hollywood, December 14, 1937: Ed Gardner, formerly active in the radio and advertising fields in New York, has been signed by M-G-M as a writer, supervisor and producer. He is currently handling the details of M-G-M's weekly radio program. Three other writers, George Bruce, Grover Jones and Jay Dratler, have also been placed under contract by the film company.
