- Portrayed Archie on "Duffy's Tavern" (CBS Radio: 1941-1942; NBC-Blue Radio: 1942-1944; NBC Radio: 1944-1952).
- Paramount Pictures attempted to cash in on the popularity of his radio show "Duffy's Tavern" by producing a 1945 movie of the same name (Duffy's Tavern (1945)) which starred Gardner and featured dozens of Paramount luminaries. The picture fizzled.
