Composer, arranger, pianist and songwriter, educated in high school,
and then a music student of John Orth, Stuart Mason, and Phillip Clapp.
He served in the military during World War I, then worked as a pianist
and arranger for theatre orchestras between 1919 and 1927. Between 1928
and 1937, he was an arranger for dance orchestras and music publishers.
Beginning in 1938 and lasting into 1950, he composed and arranged for
radio, and he moved into film music in 1951, which lasted into 1960.
Joining ASCAP in 1954, his chief musical collaborator was Don Raye, and
his popular-song compositions include "I Know What God Is".
