Step into Samia’s fantasy world and you’ll find an alter ego that looks like her, but is entirely different. She wears a backward baseball cap on top of her long, curly, jet-black hair and sports denim Daisy Dukes. She lives in a balmy, emerald-green wetland. She’s completely unburdened by people’s opinions or expectations. This is Samia’s idealized self, and her name is Kiki Swamp.

As she shares her alter ego’s name, Samia, 28, can’t help but laugh. “I made a Sim of her,” the singer-songwriter says with a chuckle.

Towards the end of her song “Amelia,” Samia walks into a party. “I’m writing a poem, somebody stop me,” she sings over balmy synths and a chirpy beat. It’s less of an actual threat and more a self-aware quip from the 27-year-old musician who’s better than almost anyone at turning fleeting moments into poetry.

“I love romanticizing shit, and I always have,” Samia says. “I was an internally dramatic child. There’s something really powerful and something that feels like protest sometimes in writing [my thoughts] down in a song.

In a major boon to Los Angeles area cord cutters, Spectrum SportsNet and the Los Angeles Lakers today announced the launch of what’s being called Spectrum SportsNet+, a direct-to-consumer streaming subscription service that can be viewed on NBA.com and the NBA App. It will deliver a 24/7 feed of Spectrum SportsNet programming, including live Lakers games and behind-the-scenes Lakers content, to sports enthusiasts.

Starting today, fans can purchase a Spectrum SportsNet+ subscription at NBA.com and watch across a wide range of devices including iPhone, iPad, Roku, Android mobile, Android TV, Amazon Fire, Hisense, PlayStation and Xbox. Spectrum SportsNet+ will be powered by the NBA’s integrated digital platform.

Previously, fans of the Purple and Gold in the region had to subscribe to AT&T’s UVerse, DirecTV or Cox’s cable services, which were the only bundles to offer Spectrum SportsNet. But those cable services are significantly more expensive than the new D-to-c offering.

Regional sports network (Rsn) providers have been anxious about their long-term prospects for some time. As cord-cutting accelerates, there are fewer users paying for cable and satellite subscriptions. This means RSNs get less from pay-tv providers and therefore must raise carriage fees to try to make up for the lost income. Cablers are then put in a bind, forced to choose between passing those costs onto consumers or simply cutting ties with the channels in question.

More and more pay-tv providers are getting ready for life without RSNs, it seems. For example, Directv announced this week it has agreed to a new carriage deal with Spectrum for its Spectrum SportsNet and Spectrum Sportsnet LA channels, which carry Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers games. Most importantly for customers, the agreement significantly lowers the penetration threshold for the networks, which means Directv can start offering satellite, Directv Stream, and AT&T...

“Hocus Pocus 2” has wrapped filming and will premiere on Disney Plus on Halloween, according to executive producer Adam Shankman.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Shankman wrote, “Sistaaaaahhhhsss! Aaaaand that’s a Wrap!!! #hocuspocus2. Congratulations to the amazing team…and the Whoooollleeee cast and crew!!! Coming to you #halloween #2022 on @disneyplus.”

While the film’s release date has yet to be officially announced, Disney confirmed in a statement to Variety that “Hocus Pocus 2” will debut “at some point during the Halloween season this fall.” Since spooky season programming typically comes out ahead of the holiday, we can probably expect “Hocus Pocus 2” just before Oct. 31.

In the 1993 original, teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) accidentally resurrects a coven of evil witches known as the Sanderson Sisters. Spectrum SportsNet La said Wednesday that they have reached a carriage agreement that will see DirecTV, AT&T TV, U-verse TV and AT&T TV Now customers finally be able to watch Los Angeles Dodgers games, ending a six-year impasse that has kept the team off DirecTV screens in more than half of homes in its own market.

SportsNet La was born out of the 25-year, multibillion-dollar deal that Time Warner Cable inked in 2013 with the Dodgers for broadcast rights. Eventually, TWC was acquired by Charter. The cabler was seeking a reported $5 per subscriber per month for the regional sports network, but DirecTV and other carriers have longed balked at the cost.

DirecTV, U-verse and AT&T TV customers will finally get to watch Los Angeles Dodgers games again, after six years of blackout. AT&T and Spectrum Networks have announced a carriage deal that will bring the Dodgers’ regional sports network, Spectrum SportsNet La, to those subscribers for the first time.

DirecTV/AT&T and Spectrum had failed to come to an agreement for six years, which left the Dodgers with only partial coverage in the Los Angeles market. Under the new deal, DirecTV customers will receive SportsNet La starting today on channel 690, while AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now customers will start to see the channel on April 8.

The news comes, however, as the baseball season has been delayed due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

A new musical by the Tony-winning duo behind “Spring Awakening,” Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, and another by Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown are on tap for the 2018 season of Powerhouse, the theater development program presented annually by Vassar and New York Stage and Film.

Powerhouse has played a role in the development of a number of notable stage titles in recent years, including “Hamilton,” “The Humans” and Off Broadway breakout “The Wolves.” “Head Over Heels,” the Go-Go’s musical that just opened in San Francisco ahead of a Broadway run this summer, was also among the works developed at Powerhouse.

Actress Kathy Najimy's funnyman husband Dan Finnerty has shot a new viral video encouraging couples not to take carriage rides around Central Park.

The Wedding Planner star actually shot the promo as he followed one carriage, singing an anti-romance song and urging the couple taking the trip to climb out.

Najimy admits the horse-drawn carriage rides were one of the things she least enjoys about living in New York City.

She says, "We live in Columbus Circle and there are a lot of those carriage horses there and it's the one thing I hate about New York because they're (horses) in the traffic in the exhausts and the fumes and it's dangerous... and they died on the street.

"For 1893, it was great, but for now it's time to let them go run in the pasture."

And she's a big fan of her husband's new video: "He did this great rock video, where he follows (a carriage) singing a song to a couple in a carriage, singing, 'It's not romantic to take your lady in the carriages...'"...

The reviews and the ratings for The Jay Leno Show are already in and the first impressions of NBC's prime-time experiment seem to be universal: Jay is still, well, Jay. His jokes are dull, his new set is creepy and don't even get anyone started on that Dan Finnerty Car Wash sketch. Let's take a look at some of the critical observations after the jump.

Jay Leno introduced his prime-time variety/talk show Monday at 10 p.m., and it turns out that Jay Leno at 10 p.m. wasn't much different from Jay Leno at 11:30 p.m.. But did anyone expect him to alter his DNA and come out sounding like The Daily Show's Jon Stewart? Eager, hard-working, upbeat, Leno remains Santa's largest elf -- and it's Christmas, whether you want it or not. What's groundbreaking is the show's time slot. The Jay Leno Show is a major programming gamble for NBC. The network is clearing the 10 p.m. weeknight of episodic series and bringing in the former Tonight host only months after he retired. (His first guest, Jerry Seinfeld, referred to The Leno Show as "your 'I didn't get fired by NBC' program.") The network has pitched the show as a no-lose proposition, so cheap it could be watched by no one and turn a profit.

On the premiere episode of The Jay Leno Show, the Tonight Show vet's new prime-time talk show/variety show/comedy hybrid, Kanye West did some time in the chair to complete an act of contrition for bullying tender flower Taylor Swift at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards. The new The Jay Leno Show debuts tonight and brings with it everyone’s favorite funny friendo, Liz Feldman. The AfterEllen.com favorite and out comedian will appear on the show as a correspondent, one of a series of young comic tapped by Jay to be showcased on his new series.

Plot: Four guys head to Las Vegas a couple nights before one of them (Bartha) gets married. The next day, three of the guys wake up and can’t remember a thing from the night before, plus they’re missing their friend. They spend the rest of the day trying to track him down. Hilarity ensues.

Who’s It For? It’s definitely rated R because of the jokes. Anything goes for a laugh. It might be mainly for guys, simply because it’s Vegas, following three guys around. But if your lady laughed at Old School, she should get some chuckles out of The Hangover.

Expectations: I just hoped to laugh. I’ve always like Cooper and Helms, but I haven’t totally fallen for Galifianakis’ stand-up comedy.

A teaser trailer for Todd Phillips’ latest comedic offering, The Hangover, has hit the web. Starring three of the most underappreciated actors working today, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, Hangover centers around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him. Hitting theaters in June, the flick also stars Heather Graham, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong, Rachael Harris, Dan Finnerty and Jeffrey Tambor. Check out the teaser below.
