The last time TV audiences saw Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott – detective fiction’s reigning will-they-won’t-they king and queen – they were hugging outside a fancy perfume shop. The private investigators had solved Troubled Blood’s cold case, exposed a serial killer, and had time left over for some belated birthday shopping for the newly divorced Robin.
An almost-kiss between them turned into a heartfelt hug and Strike’s declaration that Robin was his best friend, leaving them still tantalisingly apart but ready for their next adventure.
That next adventure is now on its way, confirms Deadline and the BBC. Filming is currently underway on The Ink Black Heart, with Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger back in the lead roles, and Tom Edge back as the show’s screenwriter and creator.

Masterpiece has released a trailer for the upcoming final season of Sanditon, the drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, that was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures.
The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3. The drama will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on PBS. The series also will be available to stream the same day.
Returning characters for Season 3 include Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke), Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall), Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield), Lady Denham (Anne Reid), Edward Denham (Jack Fox), Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery), Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman), and Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden).
More new faces are joining the series, like Lady Montrose, who is the quintessential Austen mother. She arrives in Sanditon with one objective: matches for her children, Lydia and Henry. Lydia is an independent young woman who is not as eager for a match as her mother, while Lord Henry Montrose is charismatic and confident, but he holds a secret.
There’s also Rowleigh Pryce, a wealthy, curmudgeonly investor who is interested in teaming up with Tom Parker on the seaside resort’s expansion. Their plans become complicated when Rowleigh runs into Lady Denham. Also new to Sanditon is Alexander’s brother, Samuel Colbourne – a lawyer, and a charming bachelor.

British broadcaster ITV and a slew of European networks have signed up to the remake of classic British detective drama Van Der Valk.
This comes after Deadline revealed in April that Safe and Mad Dogs actor Marc Warren will star in the reboot from The White Princess producer Company Pictures and All3Media International.

James Tupper's got a knack for mystery.
The 51-year-old actor, who gained notoriety on medical dramas like Mercy and Grey's Anatomy, seems to have hit his stride in the mystery genre with roles in Revenge and Big Little Lies.
Watch: James Tupper's Two Week Rule
Most recently, however, Tupper has transitioned from covering up crimes to solving them, with his latest role as an FBI agent working with an archaeologist (Courtney Thorne-Smith) to solve a murder in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries' Site Unseen: An Emma Fielding Mystery.
"I think Hallmark is doing this really exciting thing right now, where they buy a series of books, they're books for young adults, or adolescents, and they're really fun Agatha Christie-style mysteries," the Canadian actor excitedly told Et over the phone earlier this month. "I actually signed on for three of them."

Joanne Froggatt has begun filming her first project since wrapping up her time in Downton Abbey earlier this month.
The actress will play serial murderer Mary Ann Cotton in ITV's upcoming Victorian drama Dark Angel, which has started shooting in North Yorkshire and County Durham.
Froggatt's character sounds like the complete opposite to Downton's dependable maid Anna Bates, as she has a secret history of adultery, bigamy, fraud and murder.
With each killing, Cotton increases her social and financial standing in Victorian society, while no-one suspects that she could be behind the horrendous crimes. So don't mess with her.
Dark Angel will also star Alun Armstrong, Jonas Armstrong, Laura Morgan, Sam Hoare, Emma Fielding and Penny Layden.
ITV will soon announce the airdates for the two-part series.
Froggatt will return for the final series of Downton Abbey next month, which will conclude with its Christmas special on Christmas Day.

At Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud theatre, playwright David Seidler has much more room to explore the story's historical background than the cinema version allowed
Watching David Seidler's play induces a strong sense of deja vu. That's not simply because it was the source of a hugely successful, Oscar-winning film. It is also because Seidler's perfectly enjoyable play taps into our recollections of other, more resonant works.
Until I saw it on stage, I had not realised how much Seidler's piece owed to Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III. In both we see an embattled royal subjected to all kinds of curative humiliations by a rogue outsider: in Bennett's play it was a bluff Lincolnshire parson whereas in Seidler's it is a tough Aussie speech specialist in the shape of Lionel Logue. I was also reminded of Tom Murphy's outstanding 1983 play, The Gigli Concert, in which a charlatan...

Humphrey was once an ordinary boy with an ordinary life. Well, that is, until he died—quite by accident, really. But don't tell his best friend, Barnabas, that. His death quite literally sets in motion The Great Ghost Rescue, a tongue-in-cheek horror comedy from the UK about dislocated spirits looking for a new home.
This movie made a quiet release on this side of the pond with very little fanfare as a Halloween season DVD release. Also, this film is by no means a faithful adaptation of Eva Ibbotson’s original novel of the same name, published 1975; that is a shame. This film is easy to share with young ones before going out for trick or treat.

Lucinda Wright talks exclusively to Clothes on Film about her contribution to ITV’s adaptation of The Suspicions of Mr Whicher starring Paddy Considine. The date: 1860. Place: South West England. Costumes: an elegant recreation of the revolutionary Victorian age.
Although probably known for costume designing the 2005 reboot of Doctor Who, Wright has worked in television since the late 1990s. She has also covered period costume before, principally with Henry VIII (2003) and Georgian era Fanny Hill (2007). The Suspicions of Mr Whicher is based on Kate Summerscale’s prize winning book about real life Scotland Yard detective Jack Whicher’s (Considine) investigation of an infant murder and his controversial conclusion that lead to national outcry. It is sober yet gripping drama.

Kidnap And Ransom
Stars: Trevor Eve, Helen Baxendale, Emma Fielding, John Hannah | Written by Patrick Harbinson | Directed by Andy Wilson
Dominic King (Trevor Eve) works in a high-risk occupation: he’s a private hostage negotiator, bartering with terrorists for the release of British kidnap victims in hostile territories across the world. He’s dedicated, serious, and professional – if you were to characterise him with a popular catchphrase from the X-Men (as you do), he’d definitely fit “the best there is at what he does”. But when a victim is stolen from one gang by another, headed by a mysterious ex-military man (John Hannah) who changes the rules King usually plays by, it turns out that this is a completely different game altogether.
Sounds exciting, right? Car chases, tense exchanges, guns to heads and all that good stuff? Well, normally I’d agree with you, if it weren’t for...
