[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 5 “Stronger Together.”] Lee (Kavan Smith) just needed to not want to be mayor to get the position, it seems, on When Calls the Heart. With Mike (Ben Rosenbaum) feeling very much like a little brother while negotiating with Benson Hills’ mayor, his sister Maisie (Samantha Ferris), Lee finds himself given the job. “It’s probably a double-edged sword because obviously he ran for mayor before and didn’t win. So I think he feels winning this way is a little cheap,” Smith tells TV Insider as part of our weekly When Calls the Heart aftershow, Heart Beats. “But then I think after reflection, he probably thinks sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles and you got to take it when it happens,” he continues. “Lee just decides to magnanimously slide into the role because it is sort of what he sees for himself.

Supernatural was a beloved series, but it mostly revolved around white men. The original show focused on Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) in the first few seasons. Then Castiel (Misha Collins) was introduced in season 4. The demon everyone loves, Crowley (Mark Sheppard), was introduced in season 5, and the son of God, Jack (Alexander Calvert), was introduced in the season 12 finale. There were some women in the early seasons, Jo (Alona Tal) and Ellen (Samantha Ferris), but they were killed off in season 5. In later seasons, more female characters were introduced, but none had a central role.
While the original show revolved around primarily white men and had white female side characters, The Winchesters aims to fix that problem. It introduced a more diverse cast right from the pilot. Supernatural tried to bring in more female characters but kept killing them off. It wasn't until The CW was...

To say that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester’s (Jensen Ackles) love lives over the 15 seasons of Supernatural were tragic would be an understatement. Relationships crashed and burned just like Winchesters and their loved ones died. So even though one character who was a possible love interest for one of the brothers did end up dying fighting alongside the Winchesters, chances are that would’ve happened anyway, even if she’d had a different backstory, as was apparently possible. Season 2 introduced Sam and Dean to The Roadhouse, Ellen (Samantha Ferris) and Jo Harvelle (Alona Tal), and Ash (Chad Lindberg). And after Jo joined the brothers on a hunt in “No Exit,” the truth about the Harvelles’ history with John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was revealed. Though John and Jo’s father usually both hunted alone, they teamed up — and, as Jo told Dean after a conversation with her mom,...

After more than two years in development, a reboot of The 4400 TV series has been ordered by The CW. The network gave the remake a straight-to-series order, meaning that a pilot has not been produced.
Airing on USA Network from July 2004 until September 2007, The 4400 series stars Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Mahershala Ali, Laura Allen, Patrick Flueger, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Chad Faust, Kaj-Erik Eriksen, Samantha Ferris, Jenni Baird, Brooke Nevin, Conchita Campbell, Karina Lombard, Billy Campbell, and Peter Coyote. The story begins as a mysterious ball of light deposits a group of exactly 4,400 people near Mount Rainer in Washington state. These people had all previously disappeared in a beam of light, starting as far back as 1946. None of them have aged since their disappearances nor do they have any memory of where they've been.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Carry On,” the series finale of “Supernatural.”
For 15 seasons the Winchester brothers of the CW’s “Supernatural” put the rest of humanity’s needs ahead of their own, so it is only fitting that in their final episode they were still doing that same thing and ended up getting the “heaven [they] deserve.”
The series finale, “Carry On,” started as a throwback episode to the monster-of-the-week format of the drama’s earliest days, full of callbacks and references to what made audiences fall in love with the show — and the boys — in the first place. They may have been able to write their own story with Chuck (Rob Benedict) out of the picture, but that story still included the family business — even though it meant losing one of them. And for once, dead on “Supernatural” really, truly meant dead.

The Tall Man
Starring: Jessica Biel, Jodelle Ferland, Samantha Ferris, Stephen McHattie, Jakob Davies, Eve Harlow, William B. Davis Written and Directed by Pascal Laugier
500,000 children disappear every year. Most of them turn back up, but 1,000 vanish without a trace. That is the social premise that we walk into, and we already know “The Tall Man” is, at least, partly responsible for this number. Or is he?
From the black screen comes a concerned and bewildered Lieutenant Dodd (the ever grizzled Stephen McHattie), who’s in a cave, looking for something, someone(s). He returns to a bruised, bloody and broken Jessica Biel, or Julia Denning, the widow of the town’s esteemed doctor. He couldn’t find “him,” or the others. And whoosh, we jump to 36 hours earlier.
We land in a dead town, a small Washington hovel named Cold Rock (that doesn’t exist), and it’s hard...

Remember the name Pascal Laugier. While virtually unknown to most of the movie going public, he’s been a name that horror fans have been paying close attention to since he’s debuted on the scene with The House Of Voices and Martyrs. His newest feature, The Tall Man, is a much bigger film, with a larger budget and larger star power, with Jessica Biel leading a cast that includes Stephen McHattie, Jodell Ferland and Samantha Ferris.
Based on its marketing, one would expect your run of the mill slasher flick, with Biel running and screaming from “The Tall Man” in skimpy outfits. But, the advertisements lie. This is not that film. This is what I expected, for sure, but what I got was not an easy film, not at all what I expected when I sat down to watch it. This is exactly what Laugier wants. If you should...

The doorbell rings, and the person on the other side of the door wants money. Possibly the only time you're happy to reach for your wallet is when that person is wearing a sash.
Girl Scouts have that effect when they come calling to sell Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs. This year, as the organization celebrates its centennial, Hallmark Channel celebrates Girl Scouts with "Smart Cookies" Saturday, Aug. 18.
It's a sweet film and a bit predictable, but we wouldn't want a horror movie or a film noir about scouts. There are lessons learned -- most of them by adults -- and friendships forged.
A real estate office is the launching point for the film, where Lola (Patricia Richardson, "Home Improvement") is the boss, and Julie (Jessalyn Gilsig, "Glee") is slated to become the top salesperson of the year. Lola mandates everyone in the office do community service and assigns Julie to lead a scout troop.

*here be major spoilers. See the film before reading this review. Directed/writer: Pascal Laugier. Cast: Jessica Biel, Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie, Jakob Davies, William B. Davis, Samantha Ferris and Katherine Ramdeen. This reviewer would like to move horror fans away from this review and towards the film. The Tall Man utilizes a non-conventional story line whose themes are revealed in the final few scenes. Much of the film's mystery will be ruined for viewers if they read this review before seeing the film. With that aside, The Tall Man is a film from writer and French filmmaker Pascal Laugier. Film fans might recognize Laugier from his shocking 2008 outing, Martyrs. Martyrs involved brutal scenes of torture and disfigurement. The title here, The Tall Man, releases on video-on-demand platforms today (August 1st) through Image Entertainment and horror fans will want to take notice. Laugier uses elements of French New Wave and...

The Tall Man, written and directed by Pascal Laugier (Martyrs, Saint Ange) revolves around a small town nurse (Jessica Biel). Who after her child is abducted attempts to unravel the local truth around a mysterious dark figure of urban legend known only as “The Tall Man”, which has been blamed for the kidnapping of multiple local children over a span of the last six years in backwoods Colorado. Scheduled for a limited theatrical release on August 31st, 2012 followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release on September 25th this has what it takes to become a sleeper hit among moviegoers lucky enough to have it screen in their area.
I went into this film knowing nothing beyond the fact it was built around an urban legend about an entity that steals children in the night. Right a way I found myself drawn in by its high quality presentation and authentically creepy and interesting story.
