We got confirmation late last year that a follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was officially in the works, with writer Dave Callaham enlisted to pen the script for the untitled movie.
Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and previous MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs. Kong, was originally set to return, but ultimately departed the project under "amicable" circumstances, with Grant Sputore stepping in to replace him shortly after.
Now, Deadline reports that the next MonsterVerse movie has founds its lead in Kaitlyn Dever.
We don't have any details on who she'll play, but the trade mentions that, while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters. The story will focus on "Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat."
Sputore doesn't have much experience, having come from the world of commercials, but he...

The MonsterVerse has been enormously successful on the big screen over the years, but the most recent addition to the franchise, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is also making waves on the world's top streaming service. The film, which was released on March 29, 2024, is currently ranked third on Netflix's streaming chart, trailing only Taron Egerton's Carry-On and Kerry Washington's The Six Triple Eight.
The Hollywood franchise began in 2014 with Godzilla starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and has since expanded into five feature films, a television series, and an animated show. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire remains the most commercially successful installment, grossing $571 million on a $150 million budget, followed closely by Kong: Skull Island ($568 million).

A movie from the Monsterverse has found new success on streaming after changing platforms. The Hollywood franchise blends characters and scenarios from two of the most famous and longest-running monster franchises in history. The first is Godzilla, a Japanese kaiju franchise following the various rampages of a giant irradiated lizard that kicked off in 1954 and now includes more than 30 films, and the second is King Kong, an American franchise which began in 1933 and follows an oversized ape whose rage is usually triggered when he is being exploited by humans.
The Monsterverse, which is produced by Legendary Pictures, brings King Kong, Godzilla, and a variety of other kaiju from the Godzilla movies including Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan into the same universe. The franchise kicked off with Godzilla in 2014, followed by Kong: Skull Island in 2017 and now encompasses five movies and two television shows, with more on the way. All together,...

A polarizing MonsterVerse installment has been one of the most-watched movies on Netflix since Christmas Day. Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire debuted to mixed critical reviews but was financially successful, becoming the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film to date.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is currently third on Netflix's Top 10 chart, only behind Carry-On and Kerry Washington's The Six Triple Eight. Directed by Adam Wingard, the film is a direct sequel to 2021's Godzilla x Kong and is the fifth film in the shared Monsterverse franchise. In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Kong encounters more of his species in the Hollow Earth and must again ally with Godzilla to stop the tyrannical Skar King and the powerful, frost-breathing Shimo from invading the Earth's surface. Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle all reprise their roles from the previous film and are joined by Dan Stevens,...

James Gunn is set to introduce a rebooted DC Universe with Creature Commandos this week, but he contemplated beginning the new cinematic universe using the Caped Crusader. Matt Reeves' The Batman operates in its own Elseworld timeline far away from other superheroes, and it has worked wonders to create a grounded, epic crime saga that audiences have fallen in love with. However, it seems DC Studios did in fact think about putting Robert Pattinson's Batman in the Dcu.
While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn talked about the upcoming Dcu and was asked if he originally thought he might have to implement The Batman into the larger cinematic universe. Furthermore, if he has reevaluated his stance on keeping things separate. Gunn teases that he has "contemplated" everything when it comes to the rebooted universe, and Batman is no exception. However, he reassures fans that he is committed to...

There’s no denying that acclaimed horror author Stephen King watches a lot of TV shows and movies. Before he made the jump to the social media platform Threads, he regularly shared his opinion on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and hidden gems over on Elon Musk’s X. Though the platform is different, King remains the same as he ever was, recently calling out a big problem that a lot of us have with many modern productions.
Taking to his Threads account, King posed the question, "Are a lot of streaming shows f**king dark, or is it me?" His query prompted a variety of responses, mainly because people at first weren’t sure if he meant "dark" as in content, or "dark" as in "someone should turn on the lights" After clarifying that he meant "visually dark" and adding, "even the funny ones," it all became clear...

Despite DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn’s confirmation that a script for The Batman: Part II hasn’t been finished, one actor from The Batman (2022) has an interesting idea of who could be the villain in writer-director Matt Reeves's follow-up. Jeffrey Wright, who played James Gordon in The Batman told The Movie Dweeb that the son of James Gordon, James Gordon Jr., would make for a great adversary for the caped crusader.
“There’s a lot to choose from,” said Wright when asked which character from the universe he would like to see tangle with Gordon and Batman. “You know, Gordon actually has a son who becomes somewhat nefarious. That could be a possibility,” said The Hunger Games actor. Gordon’s son has never been adapted into a live-action version of Batman.
It seemed as though Wright had thought of the idea before because he said he had “some ideas,...

Jeffrey Wright, who played Commissioner Jim Gordon in Matt Reeves's The Batman, has now provided some insight on the scrapped Gotham Pd series that was once in development for HBO. Set within Reeves's The Batman universe, the series would have centered on a third generation Gotham cop who realizes he's on the wrong side of the law. Boardwalk Empire showrunner and The Sopranos executive producer Terence Winter would have served as the show's main creative lead before the project fell apart back in 2022. During an interview with The Playlist's "Bingeworthy" podcast, Wright confirmed that he was in early talks to have his iteration of Gordon appear in Gotham Pd.
"Yeah, there was a possibility. And then things happen behind the scenes. But Gordon wasnt to have been central to that, which I thought was cool, too. He was going to pop in and out of that."
Winters also previously revealed that,...

One thing that audiences love about movies is the story's villain. Whether they're zany and charismatic or dark and mysterious, many villains have made their way into being pop culture icons fondly remembered for decades.
And one of the most impressive things a villain can do in a story is beat the protagonists. Although it's only on rare occasions, there are several great movies where the bad guy gets away with it in the end.

MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. The actor himself has now weighed in on his next potential appearance, and it may make fans queasy about his role in The Batman franchise.

This article contains Major Spoilers for The Penguin Episode 8, "A Great or Little Thing."
The Penguin's titular villain transcended his previous depictions in film and comics. Now that Season 2 is on the table, a continuing story could revive one of Oz Cobb's unresolved frustrations.
Oz Cobb was more invested in Selina Kyle than The Batman led audiences to believe. Director Matt Reeves said this was Oz's implicit backstory in The Penguin; it also explains the villain's deep motivations. "Oz will never be sated in trying to achieve power, and a thing in the movie which we cut out where Oz clearly had these feelings for Selina," he told THR. "And when he realized she didn't return them, he tells her, 'One day, this city's going to be mine.' And he said it in a very unsettling way." That scene would have made Oz's story more compelling in The Penguin,...

Intense thriller Nightsleeper comes to the BBC in September, and here’s the trailer for the train-based series.
One of the most thrilling scenes to come out of a BBC drama in recent years was the opening of Jed Mercurio’s Bodyguard, in which the titular character foils a terrorist on a train.
New BBC thriller Nightsleeper takes this to the extreme by setting all six episodes on a high speed train. Think of it as Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, but on a modern BBC budget. And with no Steven Seagal.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Nightsleeper is a six-part series in which a train is ‘hackjacked’ while travelling from Glasgow to London, and suddenly finds itself on an uncertain journey with an even less certain destination. Part fast-moving heart-in-the-mouth action-adventure and part twisty-turny whodunnit detective story, it’s a roller coaster ride set across a single night where...

Adam Wingard returns to the director’s chair to deliver a second helping of the mother of all monster battles, following his superlative work on 2021’s Godzilla Vs Kong. In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Mothra made her surprise return and helped the movie's title characters put their differences aside. The iconic Kaiju perished in Godzilla: King of the Monsters courtesy of the evil King Ghidorah, making the apparent retcon confusing for many fans.
A Mothra egg was discovered shortly after her death, though an explanation for how it was transported into Hollow Earth has never been shared. So, was the Mothra we met a resurrected version of the one that died, the Titan that came out of the egg, or the true original?
Talking in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's "Art of" book (via SFFGazette.com), filmmaker Adam Wingard confirmed a big theory about Mothra and finally set the record straight on this apparent plot hole.

We recently got confirmation that a follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is officially in the works, with writer Dave Callaham enlisted to pen the script for the untitled movie.
There was no mention of a potential director at the time, but we'd later learn that Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and previous MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs. Kong, would no longer direct the project after initially being attached to return. His departure was described as "amicable and stemming from timing issues," with the door remaining "open for a future return."
Now, THR (via SFFGazette.com) the next instalment in the popular franchise has enlisted a new director, with Grant Sputore set to take the helm.
Sputore doesn't have much experience, having come from the world of commercials, but he does have one feature under his belt: The 2019 sci-fi movie I Am Mother starring Hilary Swank.

The MonsterVerse is moving forward with a sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, after directing the movie and its predecessor, Godzilla vs. Kong, Adam Wingard won't be back for the next movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be directed by Grant Sputore. The filmmaker previously directed the sci-fi film I Am Mother, which starred Hilary Swank and hit Netflix in 2019. He also has a background in commercials and directed multiple episodes of the TV series Castaway. He boards the project following the recent hiring of Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to write the screenplay.

In Adam Wingard's new monster mash "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," Dan Stevens' character -- the rock 'n' roll monster veterinarian named Trapper -- is introduced leaping on board a high-tech helicopter equipped with strange grappling hooks and pulleys. Trapper has been called in to sedate and perform dental surgery on Kong, who is suffering from a titanic toothache. Trapper hoots and grins as he is lowered into the unconscious Kong's mouth, eager to see what the problem is. He yanks out Kong's tooth and replaces it with an artificial implant, smiling all the while.
Trapper is like an ultra-cool version of Ace Ventura, complete with skillfully windswept hair and Hawaiian shirts. The character looks like he's just as ready to attend a days-long music festival as he is to tend to the wounds of ailing megafauna. While Godzilla and Kong were foes in the previous MonsterVerse movie, perhaps there's a certain level of attraction between the two Titans. At least, that's what has been suggested by one of the stars of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Speaking with IMDb about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, star Brian Tyree Henry shared his theory on what's really going on with the gargantuan monsters. He joked that this MonsterVerse movie is the sexiest one yet, as the film needed to raise the "sex meter" in the movie as a response to the "sexual tension" between the titular characters. He and his co-stars went on to joke that this may be why there's an "x" in the movie's title.

Following the theatrical release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, director Adam Wingard opened up about the titular Titans’ future in a potential MonsterVerse sequel.
During a recent interview with IGN, Wingard confirmed that he already has several ideas on what the next installment could look like should he get the opportunity to direct another sequel to the MonsterVerse franchise. The filmmaker revealed that he’s hoping to shift the focus back to Godzilla, and deliver a much "deeper" story centering around the fan-favorite kaiju. "I definitely have some ideas of where they could go," Wingard teased. "In the way that Kong is treated in this movie, if this movie is successful, I think that the next movie will be the Godzilla version of what we did with this movie, kind of pushing deeper into his story."

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered on March 29, 2024, as the most recent installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed as things stand now, and the box office earnings seem to confirm that. The movie surpassed expectations for its opening day and previews, and now that the first weekend is over, it has earned an amazing $194 million, landing the best opening weekend of the year, as well as breaking into the top ten list of highest-grossing movies after just one weekend.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" just made its way to theaters, but MonsterVerse fans who want to keep the kaiju goodness going will want to listen up. The folks at Waxwork Records have announced a special release of the film's soundtrack on vinyl, which you can pre-order as we speak. Much like the film itself, it is colorful and overflowing with monster madness. Oh, and it comes with a 12x12 art print.
The "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" original motion pictures soundtrack features all 23 tracks from the score for the film. The original music was composed by Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie Xl, who previously created music for Zack Snyder's "Justice League" and "Mad Max: Fury Road." Holkenborg teamed up with composer Antonio Di Iorio ("Godzilla vs Kong") to craft an appropriately epic score for director Adam Wingard's kaiju brawl. Holkenborg had this to say about it:...

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire showcases the timeless appeal of absurdly oversized monster battles. The rivalry between Kong and Godzilla dates back to 1962, when they first met on screen. The impact of King Kong and Godzilla on cinematic history has endured over the years, aided by a mutually beneficial relationship that has kept both IPs relevant.
Hitting theaters as we speak, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the next chapter in the Legendary Pictures/WB/Toho Company's MonsterVerse, illustrating the simple pleasures of the monster genre. Swapping stop-motion for men in suits and, ultimately, CGI, the spectacle of the genre has only intermittently waned.
Hoping to revive interest in the classic monsters King Kong and Godzilla, Adam Wingard's blockbuster follows a tangled tradition that most fans wouldn't believe. Launching in the earliest days of special effects and trick photography – just a few years removed from the end...

Stars: Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, Fala Chen | Written by Terry Rossio, Simon Barrett, Jeremy Slater | Directed by Adam Wingard
Adam Wingard returns to the director’s chair to deliver a second helping of the mother of all monster battles, following his superlative work on 2021’s Godzilla Vs Kong. The fifth film in Warner Bros’ MonsterVerse series, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sees Kong and Godzilla teaming up to take on a new pair of adversaries, but not without punching each other a bit first. Got to give the fans what they want, after all.
The plot picks up a couple of years after the events of the previous film, with Kong now settled into his new home in Hollow Earth and Godzilla taking down Titans on the surface world, in between power naps in the Colosseum. However, when Dr Ilene Andrews’ (Rebecca...

It's been three years since the King of the Monsters and the king of Skull Island graced the silver screen, but the legendary beasts are back in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." Adam Wingard has returned to the director's chair for another kaiju-filled romp in the MonsterVerse, one that has even more monsters than 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" did. Wingard, it's also worth pointing out, is the first director to helm two movies in this franchise, so we're getting some consistency here. But are we getting anything else after the credits start rolling?
Both "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" had post-credits scenes, so it's reasonable to wonder if "Godzilla x Kong" is going to have one. We're here to address that very question in spoiler-free fashion. So fear not! If you're planning on heading to theaters to see the film on opening weekend, we're not...
