Made on a budget of $30 million, the action thriller Atomic Blonde earned $100 million at the box office and was meant to launch a franchise, with screenwriter Kurt Johnstad saying he envisioned the story as a trilogy. But, seven years after Focus Features (a division of Universal Pictures) released the film, a sequel has still not made it into production – and during an interview with The Direct, director David Leitch revealed what the hold-up is: Atomic Blonde 2 has gotten caught up in rights issues.

Atomic Blonde was a passion project for star Charlize Theron, who produced the film through her company Denver and Delilah Productions. Per Entertainment Weekly, Grant said prior to signing on to Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, he wrote some scenes that ended up in the script.

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Gary Oldman is entering the “Slow Horses” episode “Footprints” as his 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Drama Actor. “Footprints” aired on December 27, 2023, and is the sixth and final episode of the Apple TV+ drama’s third season.

In “Footprints”: Hobbs (Chris Coghill) and Sturges (Nick Blood) storm the Dunn house, however are outmaneuvered by Lamb (Oldman), who rigs the house with booby traps. Per Variety, the two-time Academy Award-winning actress has found a new television series in James Patterson's adaptation. The Bee Holder Productions and Concourse Media film is being lined up for a May 2024 domestic release.

Eckhart plays Ben, a former CIA European Station Chief whose world comes crumbling down after his wife, a former operative, dies in a terrible accident. After receiving cryptic information that his wife’s death might not have been an accident, Ben heads back into the shadowy underworld of Eastern Europe, teaming up with a former adversary to unravel a conspiracy that challenges everything he thought he knew about his wife and the agency he worked at for more than 20 years.

Supporting cast includes Nick Moran, Chris Petrovski, Daniel Bernhardt, James Faulkner, Laetitia Eido, Isobel Wood and Nina Bergman.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. rights to actor Avan Jogia’s first feature Door Mouse from Highland Film Group. Hounded, also released as Hunted outside the UK, is the latest cinematic variation on The Most Dangerous Game. It takes elements from films like Don’t Breathe, Nefarious, and Turkey Shoot then adds the very upper-class British tradition of fox hunting. The result is a not-so-subtle survival horror metaphor for class warfare.

Leon and his brother Chaz along with their partners Vix and Tod have a good racket going on. Gregory, the local antique dealer hires them to rob his own customers. It’s good money for a quick in and out, grabbing the one item of value he wants.

Having made enough to send Chaz to college, Leon is ready to retire. The others however want one more job to set themselves up.

Debut director managed his own UK theatrical release during pandemic.

Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment has acquired US rights to UK drama As I Am, the feature debut of writer/director Guy Davies.

In a deal struck directly with the filmmakers, it is understood that a theatrical release is being planned for May, before the feature is rolled out on digital platforms later in the summer.

The coming-of-age drama was initially titled Philophobia in the UK, where Davies managed a theatrical release in the territory himself during the pandemic but saw the release cut short when a second national lockdown was introduced in November.

Greg Kinnear has joined the cast of “Sight,” a biopic about pioneering medical entrepreneur Dr. Ming Wang, led by actor Terry Chen.

The Open River Entertainment project has commenced a six-week shoot in Vancouver. The film features a predominantly Chinese cast and will be shot in English and Mandarin. Andrew Hyatt is writing and directing. Darren Moorman of Reserve Entertainment and David Fischer of Open River are producing.
