Licensing groups representing comedians, including the estates of Robin Williams and George Carlin, will not have to face a suit in sprawling litigation accusing them of monopolizing the market for the rights to the recordings of “superstar” comics.
A federal judge on April 5 dismissed Pandora’s countersuit against Word Collection and Spoken Giants, rejecting antitrust arguments from the audio company faulting the group for its alleged failure to assemble a viable comedy streaming service. U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi found that the comedians reasonably bargained collectively in the pursuit of higher royalties on top of getting paid for a copyright license that has historically been overlooked.
The dispute revolves around a feud between streamers and comedians pushing to change the landscape of compensation. The comics raise novel licensing theories claiming that they should be paid for writing their jokes, much in the same way that musicians are paid royalties for composing song lyrics.

Pandora has been stopped from advancing an antitrust lawsuit against comedians, including the estates of Robin Williams and George Carlin, accusing them of monopolizing the market for the rights to the recordings of their routines.
A federal judge on Wednesday dismissed Pandora’s countersuit against the comedians and their licensing group Word Collection, finding the audio giant failed to connect the agency’s “impressive but short list of comedians whose work it licenses” to the company’s inability to assemble the “critical mass needed to offer a viable comedy streaming service, especially when it offers recordings by several thousand other comedians.” While she allowed Pandora another chance to fix its antitrust claims, the judge was skeptical it could sufficiently do so.
“The court doubts whether Pandora can allege the necessary facts at this stage,” writes U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi.

Working against the clock to clear his own name, he begins to unravel a massive web of secrets that all point to otherworldly forces at play. The film stars Skylan Brooks, Shane West, Hart Denton, Diamond White, Rutina Wesley, Bill Engvall, and Taryn Manning. The estates of Robin Williams and George Carlin say Pandora has been “willfully” streaming the late comedians’ recorded routines without proper licensing or even “a fraction of a penny” in compensation to the trailblazing comics’ heirs.
In new copyright infringement suits filed Monday alongside related complaints from fellow funnymen Andrew Dice Clay, Ron White and Bill Engvall, the estates claim the comedians’ works “continue to be exploited, performed, broadcast, and streamed” across Pandora’s platforms without proper permission and without any “substantive response” to warnings from literary agency Word Collections over the last couple years.

“The Masked Singer” season 6 is making history in more ways than one. There is the introduction of the “Take It Off Buzzer,” which allows the judges to halt the performance if they are convinced they know the name of the famous face inside the mask. And this marks the first time that there is a costume that is a human, albeit an over-sized infant with one tooth.
The Baby is one of the two Wildcards who debuted on the second episode of the super-sized premiere. He replaces Mother Nature (Vivica A. Fox) who was sent packing at the start of the show on September 23. Before Baby sang a note, we thought Jack Black was hidden inside this elaborate costume but changed our mind when we saw him perform. Keep reading for all “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question “Who is Baby”?

Blue Collar Comedy Tour and Dancing With the Stars veteran Bill Engvall said Wednesday that he would no longer tour as a stand-up comic: “I, at the end of 2022, will be stepping back from being a touring comedian.” He said it was the right time.
“You reach a point in your life when you knew it was time,” Engvall said in a Facetime Live with fans. Engvall seemed content as he spoke about wanting to spend more of his life at home with his wife Gail and new granddaughter. “I want to be a part of all this,” he said.
“I’m not retiring,” Engvall emphasized. “I’ve got a lot of little film and TV opportunities that are headed my way.” He promised he would also be “heavy” on social media, hopefully making people laugh.
In fact, Engvall is heading out on the road one last time to say “goodbye” to fans.

It’s not about whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game — unless you’re Mike Baxter, that is. And this fact is more clear than ever on Thursday’s “Last Man Standing,” which sees Mike (Tim Allen) attempt to get his wife Vanessa (Nancy Travis) to join his bowling team.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from the episode, which you can view above, Mike comes home with a bottle of “fancy” wine for Vanessa and tries to pretend there’s no ulterior motive behind the act of kindness — but Vanessa knows better than that.
They go around in circles for a bit until Vanessa gets Mike to admit he wants her to join his bowling team after their daughter Mandy (Molly McCook) switched over from “Team Baxter to Team Jesus.” Yeah, Vanessa refuses and Mike asks her to give him one good reason why.

“The Masked Singer” brings together its nine remaining Season 3 contestants, dubbed the “Super Nine,” for the first time on Wednesday’s special two-hour episode. But do you remember which nine contestants made the cut?
If you don’t, we don’t blame you, seeing as Group A last performed Feb. 12 and Group B on March 4. I hope you’re all wearing your banana best, because this week’s Masked Singer takes us all to banana church.

Under this one, highly, highly specific circumstance, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg’s logic isn’t bad.
Fact Number 1: The Masked Singer‘s first two seasons featured one legendary vocalist apiece — Gladys Knight as Season 1’s Bee, and Patti Labelle as Season 2’s Flower. Fact Number 2: Season 3 already has unmasked Miss Monster, who was revealed to be R&b diva Chaka Khan. So when Wahlberg noted Wednesday that it wouldn’t make sense for the Fox reality show to give us an additional take-you-to-church vocalist this season, she’s right.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.”)
“The Masked Singer” moved on from its first crop of Season 3 contestants with its Wednesday episode, which introduced viewers to six more of the third season’s 18 competitors: Banana, Elephant, Kitty, Taco, Mouse and Frog.
Those masked singers are part of Group B, a lineup that will compete over the next two weeks until it’s been whittled down to three contestants — just as Group A was condensed to White Tiger, Turtle and Kangaroo over Season 3’s first three episodes — who will then move on to the finals. And the same will then happen with Group C.
Well, we already know at least one contestant who won’t be moving on: Elephant, who was the first Group B contestant eliminated and revealed to be skateboard legend Tony Hawk on last night’s episode. (You can read TheWrap’s interview...

I wish “Dancing with the Stars” knew how to quit Joe Amabile. The “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” reality star known to his fans as Grocery Store Joe isn’t going anywhere, even after the double elimination on Country Night. But while he survived yet another cut, he just achieved an unfortunate milestone: he’s the first contestant ever to receive seven last-place scores in one season, breaking his tie with Bill Engvall who finished last six times in season 17. Amabile could add an eighth low score during next week’s semifinals. And maybe a ninth if he advances beyond that.
There were actually two dances on Country Night, an individual dance between the celebs and their partners and a team dance. Both of Joe’s routines were the lowest scored, so that technically gives him eight last-place scores this season already. But since it’s the combined score from...

Joe “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile survived another week of “Dancing with the Stars.” Halloween Night instead ended with the ouster of the fifth female celebrity in a row: Mary Lou Retton. But since the judges scored him higher than usual this time around — for the first time he didn’t finish last on the judges’ leaderboard — they may have guaranteed he’ll advance for yet another week given his overwhelming support from viewers thus far. So how long can he ride this out? Vote in our poll below to let us know how far he’ll go.
It’s already unprecedented for a “DWTS” contestant to spend their first six nights at the bottom of the leaderboard. In the past anyone who has had such consistently low scores was eliminated before they could achieve such a feat. The only other contestant in “DWTS” who ever had that many nights at...

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Grocery Store Joe finishing last on the “Dancing with the Stars” leaderboard. At least, that used to be the case. Over the first five weeks of the competition “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” alum Joe Amabile tied Bill Engvall‘s record for the most times in last place in the show’s history (six). He was about to break that record, but the judges thought his Halloween Night Argentine tango was a real breakthrough for the struggling celeb. Was it really, or did the judges go way overboard with their scores? Watch it above.
Amabile has been pretty discouraged by his low scores over the course of the season so far, and most people in that position would have been eliminated long ago, but every week his “DWTS” candidacy has been reanimated like Frankenstein’s monster by the viewing public, who...

“Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” star Joe Amabile, aka Grocery Store Joe, hasn’t been the judges’ favorite contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.” Quite the contrary, he has been the judges’ least favorite contestant week in and week out. But he has been safe from elimination every single week thanks to the loyalty of his fans. Now his scores are poised to break a record, though it’s not the kind of record anyone would want to break. He’s about to have more last-place scores than anyone else in “DWTS” history.
