The Big Bang Theory, besides becoming one of the greatest sitcoms ever, also earned a name for becoming a pop culture phenomenon. The intelligent humor and weird scientific jokes generated multiple iconic moments and memorable dialogues that are still discussed by fans. But from the entire series, Sheldon’s catchphrase Bazinga! is one of the most notable aspects.
Surprisingly, Sheldon Cooper’s favorite comic word was never planned for the script and has a strange origin story.

When you think of "The Big Bang Theory," you probably think of a few identifying things. "Nerds." A laugh track. The made-up word "Bazinga." So, what's the deal with that last one? Why does Sheldon Cooper — played by Jim Parsons — say it on the CBS sitcom? According to an oral history of the series, the answer is pretty ridiculous.
In "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series" by Jessica Radloff, some of the show's stars and creative team discussed "Bazinga" and how it became a part of the show. Though Sheldon says it during the series' second season, it truly became a "catchphrase" of sorts in the season 3 episode "The Einstein Approximation," which Radloff noted is more commonly known as "the ball-pit episode." As showrunner and executive producer Steve Molaro told it, the series'...

Having just finished its several-year-long run a couple of weeks ago, The Big Bang Theory’s prequel Young Sheldon had all of its seasons’ focus on Sheldon Cooper’s life in Texas as a child and then as a teenager enlarging the iconic character’s world for curious fans around the world.
Those who have been the original show’s lovers ever since it premiered back in 2007 surely had a list of things they needed more details about before Young Sheldon finally hit the screens, and many of those things had something to do with Sheldon’s quirky personality.
Apart from all of his other peculiar habits, the character’s catchphrase “Bazinga!” is introduced in The Big Bang Theory at a very random moment with no real explanation for fans, but in this case Young Sheldon did make it all clear.
In the original series, Sheldon repeatedly used “Bazinga!” every time he successfully pranked someone,...

Speaking backstage at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday in the wake of winning her guest comedy gong for Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jane Lynch revealed that she has a comedy series in the works at Netflix, in which she would star with Cyndi Lauper.
“We’re our ages now. I’m almost 60, and she’s 65. We’re looking for our next act and we haven’t had children,” she said of the show.
At first reluctant to spill details, she said, “I don’t think I can,” but then caved and said, “It’s a Golden Girls for today.”
The potential series will feature two other major characters, which Lynch said they hadn’t yet cast.
According to sources, the comedy series, which has been in development at Netflix for more than a month, comes from creators Stephen Engel and Carol Leifer. Producing is Skydance Television, the...

Et has some behind the scenes tidbits from TV's top rated comedy!
Our favorite gang of scientific nerds is back for season 8 and Et has some behind the scenes tidbits from TV's top rated comedy! Here are six things you probably didn't know about The Big Bang Theory.
6. Origins of "Bazinga" (Hint: It involves a grapefruit!)
Sheldon's trademark catchphrase originated with show writer Stephen Engel who would set up a recurring practical joke that involved taping a hallowed out grapefruit back together. "I'd open it up and [he] would say 'Bazinga," exexcutive producer Bill Prady recalled. "It was Stephen's word for gotcha." It caught on so much that not only did they put it in the show but Bazinga has officially been dubbed a species of bee.

Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, and Raj Koothrappali may not be doctors of the medical sort, but they still know how to serve up a heaping dosage of best medicine (a.k.a. laughs — lots of them) to a sold-out audience. At least, that’s what their real-life counterparts — along with other cast members and writer-producers of The Big Bang Theory — did Wednesday evening for the CBS comedy’s PaleyFest panel in Beverly Hills’ Saban Theatre.
The event, presented by the Paley Center for Media, was pretty short on spoilers. The production schedule is currently not that far ahead of viewers,...

With the economy in the tank, Spike TV is developing several comedy projects that find pathos and humor in underachievement.
The network has five new half-hours in the works to bulk up its fledgling scripted slate (along with an equal number of unscripted projects). The new half-hours feature struggling men wanting more out of life -- or to just slack off.
"From a comedy perspective, rooting for the underdog always works," said Kevin Kay, Spike TV president.
The projects also tackle several settings that have proven to be comedic fodder in the past. There are pilots set in the world of golf, the military and at a casino, to cite a few.
The network hopes to pick up two of the projects to series, one as a companion to its first comedy series, "Blue Mountain State," which was renewed for a second season in February.
"It's the most ambitious slate we've had,...

Trio of pilots join ABC laugh pack
ABC has picked up three more comedy projects -- Slice O' Life, a pilot for midseason consideration toplined by Janeane Garofalo; and two presentations for fall -- a Touchstone TV sitcom starring comedian Rodney Carrington; and a 20th Century Fox TV/Imagine TV project starring comedian Kevin Hart. Slice O' Life, written and executive produced by Bill Diamond, stars Garofalo as a producer of light human-interest segments on a newsmagazine. The untitled Rodney Carrington project is written and executive produced by Don Reo and Damon Wayans, the duo behind ABC's comedy My Wife and Kids. It is based on Carrington's real life as a stand-up comedian raising a family. The untitled Kevin Hart project, from writers Stephen Engel (NBC's Inside Schwartz) and David Zuckerman (Fox's King of the Hill), centers on a wealthy, pampered black guy from Malibu (Kevin Hart) who moves to Philadelphia to live with his blue-collar relatives after his father loses all his money. Engel, Zuckerman and Imagine TV's Brian Grazer and David Nevins are executive producing. The Kevin Hart project is the third comedy pilot with a riches-to-rags theme this season, along with Fox's Arrested Development and ABC's untitled Jenny McCarthy sitcom. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox TV has pulled out of Barbara Hall's drama pilot for CBS Joan of Arcadia. The project, which is casting, is now set up at CBS Prods. with the network hoping to bring in a partner.
