The FBI franchise was launched in 2018 with the debut of the flagship police procedural television series FBI, which continues to thrive as a cop drama in its seventh season. Midway through the first season, CBS announced the development of the first spin-off series,FBI: Most Wanted, which premiered in January 2020. The secondspin-off series, FBI: International, premiered in September 2021. The addition of FBI: International led to the formation of a formidable three-hour ‘FBI Night’ block for CBS on the network’s Tuesday prime-time schedule.
Thefranchise reached its zenith in May 2022 when CBS renewed all three shows for two additional seasons. The first sign of distress for the franchise was evident in April 2024, when CBS renewed FBI for three additional seasons while Most Wanted and International were only renewed for one more season. The following month, CBS revealed its intention to cut the minimum episode guarantees for the regular cast members by two episodes.

He’s got an Oscar, played Albert Einstein, and even shared a flat with Mel Gibson. Now, the Australian actor is here to answer your questions
It’s not all that often you get the chance to put your questions to an honest-to-goodness best actor Oscar winner, but that’s what we’ve got coming down the pipe. Geoffrey Rush won the big one back in 1997 for his role as pianist David Helfgott in Shine, and he’s won a ton of others, including Baftas, Golden Globes, an Emmy, a Tony and four Screen Actors Guild awards. In fact it’s easier to ask what award hasn’t he won?
Now, Australia has produced more than its fair share of premium acting talent, from Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman to Nicole Kidman and Guy Pearce, but Rush is definitely up there with the best of them. Aside from Shine, he...

A contestant on the Wednesday, February 19, Wheel of Fortune episode set fans talking because many thought he was a dead ringer for noted genius Albert Einstein. While others thought he looked just like Doctor Emmett Brown from Back to the Future. But while Michael Kroll is not an inventor or time traveler like his doppelgängers, the creative writer from Oakland, California, sure seems to lead an interesting life. He has published his own novel and is most proud of the the writing he has done in juvenile halls, where he teaches students to make their own creative stories. The Wof contestant also revealed that he loves snakes and tried to catch a cobra when one came into his classroom when he was teaching in the Peace Corps in Malaysia. “What could I do but catch it?” Kroll asked. “No, you could run,” host Ryan Seacrest joked. Kroll’s likeness to...

Donald Trump has banned actress Julianne Moore's book for children, Freckleface Strawberry, from the libraries of any school run by the Department of Defense. The Oscar winner was made aware of the news by the nonprofit group Pen America, which pointed out that hers is one of several books being outright removed or put under review for inclusion by the new administration in a post on social media.
Moore shared the news on her own social media on Sunday (though we first heard about it via Variety). "It is a great shock for me to learn that my first book, Freckleface Strawberry, has been banned by the Trump Administration from schools run by the Department of Defense," Moore wrote on her Instagram. "Freckleface Strawberry is a semi-autobiographical story about a seven-year-old girl who dislikes her freckles but eventually learns to live with them when she realizes that she is different 'just like everybody else.

As a franchise spanning multiple television series since 1966, Star Trek has brought countless memorable guest stars over the decades. However, not all guest stars are created equal, with several standing as clear highlights in their respective episodes. Whether it's one-and-done appearances or informal recurring roles, effective guest stars quickly are embraced as fan-favorites. In fact, some connect with the cast, crew, and audience so well, they've inadvertently steered the course of the franchise.
A great guest star gels seamlessly with the main cast and naturally elevates the story that they're appearing in. For the purposes of this article, stars appearing on this list do not include actors who have appeared as series regulars on other Star Trek shows. In 2020, fans experienced the heartbreaking news that one of their top series, Criminal Minds, had been canceled after fifteen seasons. When the show received a reboot two years later, not all of the cast returned.
Criminal Minds: Evolution brought back some of our favorite profilers, only one of whom had been with the show since the beginning and a few who replaced original team members who had left before the show ended.
One of the most significant losses in the show’s history was that of boy-wonder Dr. Reid Spencer, played by Matthew Gray Gubler.
(Cliff Lipson/CBS)
During the fifteen-year original run of Criminal Minds, Reid played the nerdy academic with an eidetic memory and a brilliance for profiling criminals.
Fans adored the awkward genius that was Dr. Spencer Reid, whether it was his close relationship with J.J. (A.J. Cook) and her sons, his bromance with former Bau...

Matthew Gray Gubler’s Dr. Spencer Reid is making a long-awaited return appearance in Criminal Minds: Evolution. The Criminal Minds alum will appear in a Season 3 episode of the procedural, Deadline has learned.
It’s frequently mentioned in the sequel series that Reid has been away from the Bau for what they call “a special assignment.”
Gubler landed Criminal Minds soon after graduating from college in his first TV role. His character as criminal profiler quickly became a fan favorite with his analytical skills, his eccentricities — and his ever-changing hair. Along with A.J. Cook, Gubler was the only full-time original cast member to stay for Criminal Minds‘ entire 15-season run, which ended in 2020 — starring and also directing 12 episodes.
Much to fans’ disappointment, Gubler was the only longtime Criminal Minds cast member from the series’ final season on CBS who did not return for the 2022 sequel, Criminal Minds: Evolution, on Paramount+.

Later this month, Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will appear opposite one another as two sides of the same coin in Mufasa: The Lion King. The film will serve as an origin story for not just the titular character, but also for his brother, Taka, who eventually becomes known as Scar. The famous fictional siblings were first introduced in Disney’s 1994 animated feature, The Lion King, making the dynamic between the pair an interesting one for the studio to untangle in its upcoming feature. This won’t at all be the first time that the two actors have tackled such an interesting connection between characters, as they previously starred alongside one another in the fourth season of National Geographic’s anthology series, Genius. Each season dove into the story of notable names that changed history, like Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, and Aretha Franklin, with Pierre and Harrison’s installment...

Criminal Minds actor Matthew Gray Gubler has confirmed his return to the show in a new interview. Known for his breakout role as Dr. Spencer Reid in the long-running crime drama, Gubler appeared in all 15 seasons of the original Criminal Minds. Though he is one of the few core cast members not to reprise their role for the Paramount+ revival Criminal Minds: Evolution, the actor has maintained his openness to returning as Dr. Reid down the line.
In a recent interview with Ansa, to discuss his work as an author and illustrator, Gubler briefly mentions that he has “shot a new episode of Criminal Minds.” It's worth noting that Gubler could mean that he returned as a director, since he directed several episodes of the original series. The quote is below, translated from Italian:

The time travel featured in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar was much less confusing compared to a more recent film by the director. Nolan has earned the reputation as a director who makes ambitious, oftentimes complicated movies, and Interstellar remains one of his boldest cinematic outings. In Interstellar, Earth is suffering from a blight that will make the planet uninhabitable. Therefore, former NASA pilot Joseph Cooper is sent on a mission across the galaxy to find a habitable planet that humankind can move to.
The ending of Interstellar introduces an element of time travel. Time travel always naturally complicates a story, but Interstellar explains the concept of time dilation quite well. Six years after Interstellar's release, Nolan's 2020 movie Tenet also dealt with time travel. Compared to Interstellar, how characters in Tenet travel back in time is much more confusing. This led to many moviegoers completely being lost about what actually...

Matthew Gray Gubler played Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds from 2005 to 2020 (he appeared in 15 seasons and 324 episodes total), but his next project will feature one element that separates the actor's new character from Reid. The police procedural crime drama series followed the FBI's Bau (Behavioral Analysis Unit) as they traveled around the country, solving crimes that required their expertise. Reid was notably the youngest member of the team, but he was also the smartest. As the show continued, Reid quickly became a fan-favorite Criminal Minds character, making many excited to see who Gubler plays next.
Matthew Gray Gubler is one of the few original Criminal Minds actors who haven't reprised their roles in Paramount+'s revival series Criminal Minds: Evolution.
In October 2024, CBS announced that Gubler would be the face of an upcoming crime procedural TV series — Einstein. The actor is set to star as Lew Einstein, the great-grandson of Albert Einstein.

Rosa Salazar (Brand New Cherry Flavor) has been cast as the female lead opposite Matthew Gray Gubler in Einstein, CBS’ crime procedural pilot from the Monk team of creator/executive producer Andy Breckman and director/executive producer Randy Zisk.

Wherever you go, there you are. That iconic line has become a pop culture mainstay thanks to one of the strangest movies of the 80s, Buckaroo Banzai or, as it is formally titled, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. This 1984 science fiction movie has been a cult classic for four decades and remains a fan favorite thanks to its virtually unexplainable plot. Part comedy, part action, part scifi, part martial arts, part musical, part western, part satire and part of a franchise that never came to be, Buckaroo Banzai may be the single most bizarre movie we have ever covered for this series.
A box office bomb when it was released, grossing only six million against a seventeen million dollar budget, Buckaroo Banzai holds a decent 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics sum it up succinctly as “violating every rule of storytelling and narrative structure in creating...

While Oppenheimer was bursting at the seams with incredible performances, Robert Downey Jr. was a particular standout. Widely considered one of 2023's best films, Oppenheimer chronicles the life and times of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), particularly as he was developing the world's first atomic bomb. A smashing success, Oppenheimer made nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office and took home a plethora of Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Murphy), and Best Supporting Actor for Downey. Oppenheimer is also notable for netting acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan his first Academy Award, as he won for Best Director.

In Jonathan Demme's 1991 thriller "The Silence of the Lambs," FBI cadet Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) finds several interesting and shocking clues while examining a dead body that had been fished out of Elk River in Clay County, West Virginia. Most prominently, large diamond patterns have been sliced out of the skin of the victim's back -- though to what end, Starling hasn't yet determined. More curiously, the pathologist finds a cocoon lodged in the victim's throat. It's too delicate to have fallen in accidentally, meaning someone shoved it in there deliberately.
Later, Starling takes the cocoon to a pair of entomologists (Paul Lazar and Dan Butler), hoping to learn more about it. The entomologists carefully dissect the cocoon and find it to be the species acherontia styx, better known as the death head moth (although it should have been more accurately described as the lesser death's head hawkmoth). The insect is easily recognizable,...

Matthew Gray Gubler is set to star in a brand new CBS series, and that boosts his chances of coming back to Criminal Minds: Evolution. As an original ensemble member, not having Spencer Reid as part of the cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution has been a big topic of conversation among those who enjoy the series. There was initial confusion on why Gubler isn't really involved, but ultimately, it was determined that his absence boiled down to scheduling conflicts. The actor wanted to venture out and do something different after playing Reid for 15 seasons on the CBS series.
Everyone involved in Criminal Minds: Evolution has been supportive. In return, Gubler has expressed his desire to come back as Reid. Bau's golden boy is still technically a member of the team, with his desk intact. In season 1, it was revealed that he was just working on a different case, but...

Kelly Monaco has something to say.
As you very likely recall, the veteran actress was fired from General Hospital late this summer… a stunning development considering the star had portrayed the character of Sam McCall since 2003.
Not very much information was released at the time about what the heck happened.

According to Soap Opera Network, which broke this unexpected news in August, Monaco was “blindsided” by the firing.
Based on her very first comments since getting ousted, this report appears to be accurate.
“Last scene with the Davis girls,” Monaco captioned a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram this weekend, adding by way of non-explanation and consternation:
“Still doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Criminal Minds fans have been waiting for Matthew Gray Gubler's return in Evolution. That's yet to be confirmed, but a new dramedy pilot could chart a new path for the actor.
CBS has cast Matthew Gray Gubler in the new procedural titled Einstein, per Deadline. Executive-produced by Andy Breckman and director Randy Zisk, Einstein will be based on the namesake German TV series, a police procedural drama with heart and humor. This would be Gubler's first lead role after Criminal Minds; the actor left that show due to scheduling conflicts, but he has since appeared as a recurring character in seven Dollface episodes. Fans will quickly warm up to his Einstein character Lew, a brilliant yet misguided genius who finds meaning as a forensic expert.

Matthew Gray Gubler is set to return to CBS, but not for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3, as he'll instead lead the procedural Einstein. Gubler was notably one of the few long-time Criminal Minds cast members not to reprise his role for Evolution, which disappointed fans who enjoyed his portrayal as Dr. Spencer Reid. Even though the actor is open to reprising the fan-favorite character, he has largely kept away from TV roles in recent years except for a recurring part on the short-lived Hulu series Dollface. That will soon change.
Deadline confirms that Gubler will lead the Einstein pilot for CBS. The actor will also produce the pilot, which hails from Monk creator Andy Breckman and director Randy Zisk. A procedural with comedic undertones in a similar vein to Monk, the Einstein pilot will follow the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, who is played by Gubler.

Matthew Gray Gubler, former star of “Criminal Minds,” has been set to lead the cast of CBS’ new comedic drama pilot for “Einstein,” TheWrap has learned.
The actor, who will also produce the project, will star as Lew Einstein, the great-grandson of iconic theoretical physicist, Albert Einstein.
CBS describes Lew as a “popular professor at Princeton … when he actually shows up for class. Irreverent and misguided, Lew’s genius and famous name weighs heavily on him but using his gift to help solve homicides may — finally — offer his life some direction and purpose.”
If picked up, the series would follow the “brilliant but directionless” Lew as he spends his days comfortably as a tenured professor. However, when his bad boy antics get him in trouble with the law, he is forced to help a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases.
“Monk” creator Andy Breckman will write and executive produce “Einstein.

Criminal Minds fan favorite Matthew Gray Gubler has been tapped to lead CBS‘s forthcoming procedural pilot for Einstein, a working title for a new series coming to the network. According to Deadline, Gubler is slated to take on the titular role and produce the CBS pilot from Monk‘s Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk. While Breckman will serve as creator and Zisk is attached to direct, both are credited as executive producers. Einstein is based on a German series, and similar to that show and Monk, this new series will feature comedic undertones as new cases are tackled in each installment. CBS Gubler plays Lew Einstein, the great-grandson of famed scientist Albert Einstein, who spends his days as a tenured professor until his bad-boy antics land him in hot water with the law. The situation forces Lew into service helping a local police detective solve her most mind-boggling cases.

For producer Barry Navidi, Johnny Depp’s directorial comeback “Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness” marks a full-circle moment in an unconventional career.
Navidi’s first time working with Depp nearly 30 years ago on the 1995 project “Divine Rapture” ended in disappointment when the production was shelved. But on Tuesday, the two will celebrate a high with the world premiere of “Modi” at San Sebastian Film Festival.

Movie fans were shocked when it was announced that Robert Downey Jr., fresh off his Oscar win for Oppenheimer, would be returning to the MCU to play Doctor Doom. Rdj won a much-deserved Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolans film. And while that movie sees Strauss go up against J. Robert Oppenheimer and losing, Doctor Doom has actually managed to achieve something Strauss never could.
The main plot of the movie centers around Oppenheimers work with the Manhattan Project to develop the first atomic bomb before the Nazis can. However, in classic Christopher Nolan fashion, the non-linear narrative weaves together other stories taking place at different times. The other plots Oppenheimer losing his security clearance and Strauss confirmation hearing to become Secretary of Commerce are set in motion by Strauss personal grudge against the physicist. Exclusive: It doesn’t happen often, but Ron Howard is here in Toronto today to unveil at the Toronto Film Festival his new film Eden. What’s unusual for the Oscar winner whose films have grossed billions, is that the film is up for grabs for distribution as an acquisition title. Eden might seem a close cousin to his harrowing Thai rescue film Thirteen Lives, but this one has a sinister edge unusual for Howard. Based on a true story, Eden stars Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruehl, Ana de Armas, Toby Wallace and Felix Kammerer as the members of three parties who flee post-wwi civilization to start over and build paradise on the Galapagos Islands. It devolves into a Lord of the Flies battle to survive the elements, and each other. Eden‘s world premiere is set for 5:45 p.m. tonight at Roy Thomson Hall.

“Why War” is both the title of Amos Gitai’s latest and a question that has long been on the director’s mind — one he has tried to answer with works like “A Letter to a Friend in Gaza” and “West of the Jordan River.” However, this seemingly direct confrontation of the query takes a roundabout path, resulting in a movie about helplessness, frustration and intellectual debate in the face of military conflict. It is based, in part, on written correspondences between Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud, and takes an experimental, meta-fictional form, though its images can’t help but feel trepidatious, if not entirely without purpose.
Through staged scenes of battles from antiquity (one of which appears to be the First Jewish-Roman War), Gitai paves a fiery path for his rumination, though his methodology quickly proves too broad for his subject matter. Early in its runtime, the film features...

At the beginning of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Descent, Part I", Data (Brent Spiner) is spending some free time on the holodeck. He has arranged a poker game with three of the greatest minds the scientific community has ever known. Sir Isaac Newton (John Neville) is arrogant and impatient. Albert Einstein (Jim Norton) is affable, but an aggravating poker player, as he struggles with basic arithmetic. And, sitting across from Data, making science jokes and poking fun at Newton and Einstein, is Stephen Hawking, playing himself.
Hawking gets the opening line of the episode, completing an anecdote: "But then I said, in that frame of reference, the perihelion of Mercury would have precessed in the opposite direction." Einstein laughs, and Data declares the story to be very amusing. Data tries to explain the joke to Newton, who would not have known about the relativistic curvature of space-time.
