Donald Trump has banned actress Julianne Moore's book for children, Freckleface Strawberry, from the libraries of any school run by the Department of Defense. The Oscar winner was made aware of the news by the nonprofit group Pen America, which pointed out that hers is one of several books being outright removed or put under review for inclusion by the new administration in a post on social media.

Matthew Gray Gubler’s Dr. Spencer Reid is making a long-awaited return appearance in Criminal Minds: Evolution. The Criminal Minds alum will appear in a Season 3 episode of the procedural, Deadline has learned.

It’s frequently mentioned in the sequel series that Reid has been away from the Bau for what they call “a special assignment.”

Gubler landed Criminal Minds soon after graduating from college in his first TV role. His character as criminal profiler quickly became a fan favorite with his analytical skills, his eccentricities — and his ever-changing hair. Along with A.J. Cook, Gubler was the only full-time original cast member to stay for Criminal Minds‘ entire 15-season run, which ended in 2020 — starring and also directing 12 episodes.

Much to fans’ disappointment, Gubler was the only longtime Criminal Minds cast member from the series’ final season on CBS who did not return for the 2022 sequel, Criminal Minds: Evolution, on Paramount+.

Sources confirmed to TVLine that “fortunately, schedules aligned” and he will be making a return for part of one episode of the upcoming season

Matthew has not yet appeared in the sequel series, which debuted on Paramount+ in November 2022. The show revealed that Spencer Reid and fellow Mia cast member Daniel Henney’s Matt Simmons have been away on an assignment.

“It’s a little bit of a mystery what Reid and Simmons are up to,” showrunner Erica Messer told TVLine at the time the show debuted, “but they’re certainly not forgotten.”

“Dr. Reid’s and I believe Matt Simmons’ desks are still there, still have stuff on it…,” she noted.

The doctor — meaning, Spencer Reid — is back in.

For a little bit, at least.

Known for his breakout role as Dr. Spencer Reid in the long-running crime drama, Gubler appeared in all 15 seasons of the original Criminal Minds. In a recent interview with Ansa, to discuss his work as an author and illustrator, Gubler briefly mentions that he has “shot a new episode of Criminal Minds.” It's worth noting that Gubler could mean that he returned as a director, since he directed several episodes of the original series. Criminal Minds has had a host of great characters over the years who had equally sad exits.

It seems that every week there’s an unexpected but undeniably exciting addition to Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme cast. This week is no different, as Variety reports this morning that former nanny and current SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher will join the cast, playing the mother to Timothée Chalamet’s titular ping pong player.

While most of the Criminal Minds cast returned for the follow-up series on Paramount+, Matthew decided not to reprise his role as Spencer Reid.

The actor, who will also produce the project, will star as Lew Einstein, the great-grandson of iconic theoretical physicist, Albert Einstein.

After entertaining us for so long as part of an ensemble, he’ll now headline an upcoming CBS procedural that is currently titled Einstein. That title is subject to change, but the name recognition might work to its benefit.

He has arranged a poker game with three of the greatest minds the scientific community has ever known. Sir Isaac Newton (John Neville) is arrogant and impatient. Albert Einstein (Jim Norton) is affable, but an aggravating poker player, as he struggles with basic arithmetic. And, sitting across from Data, making science jokes and poking fun at Newton and Einstein, is Stephen Hawking, playing himself. 

Hawking gets the opening line of the episode, completing an anecdote: "But then I said, in that frame of reference, the perihelion of Mercury would have precessed in the opposite direction." Einstein laughs, and Data declares the story to be very amusing. Data tries to explain the joke to Newton, who would not have known about the relativistic curvature of space-time.
